Quotes / Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Go To

Elder: We give thanks for the gift of King T'Challa, the Black Panther. Son of King T'Chaka.
Ramonda: My son.
Elder: Descendant of the most sacred King Bashenga, the first Black Panther. We release you. Praise the ancestors.
—Funeral rites for T'Challa

Ramonda: It has always been our policy to never trade Vibranium under any circumstance. Not because of the dangerous potential of Vibranium, but because of the dangerous potential of you. You perform civility here... but we know what you whisper, in your halls of leadership and in your military facilities. "The king is dead. The Black Panther is gone. They have lost their protector. Now is our time to strike." Last night, there was another attack on one of our outreach facilities. Proof of the involvement of a member state is being uploaded to your mobile devices as we speak. And as for the identity of the attackers...
[Ramonda stood up along with her guards, and on cue, the door opens, revealing the Dora Milaje with the attackers in tow, handcuffed and stripped of their gear]
Okoye: [turns around to face the prisoners] Kneel!
[the prisoners kneeled immediately]
Okoye: [turns to face the French delegation with contempt, switching from her native tongue to French] You're welcome.
Ramonda: [walks to the group of Dora] Let our gracious response to this incursion be an olive branch. [stops on her tracks and quickly flanked by Okoye and Ayo as she speaks] Further attempts on our resources will be considered an act of aggression and met with a much steeper response. We mourn the loss of our king, but do not think for a second that Wakanda has lost her ability to protect our resources. We are aware of the ongoing efforts by some to find Vibranium outside of Wakanda, and we wish you the best of luck.

M'Baku: So the river border has been breached? If my soldiers were, this "fish-man" would be bound before us as we speak!
Okoye: If your muscle-brains were present, they would still be there choking on their fuzzy adornments!
M'Baku: You bald-headed demon!
Ramonda: Show some respect, you two.
M'Baku: Respect?! These men should be ashamed to show their faces!
River Tribe member: Watch your tone, Jabari!
M'Baku: (aggressive, affronted chanting, backed up by his troops)
Okoye: HEY! (strikes the ground with her spear, followed by the other Dora present)
Ramonda: (sternly stares down M'Baku before pointing to his seat)
M'Baku: (takes a dismissive bite of his carrot before going to his seat)
Okoye: As I was saying, there was no aerial surveilance footage of him.
River Tribe member: And nothing on radar as well.
River Tribe Elder: So he swam underwater for 100 kilometers?
Ramonda: He was not alone, and claims to command a massive army.
Merchant Tribe Elder: He wants us to deliver one American scientist so he can kill them?
Mining Tribe Elder: Do it. (earns several double takes from the others) We've never had to face an enemy with access to vibranium before, and we have no Black Panther to protect us.
M'Baku: That is because this wise council allowed Killmonger to take the throne, and burn up all your precious heart-shaped herb.
Ramonda: M'Baku, what would you have us do?
M'Baku: We should find the fish-man and kill him. If we do what he is asking for now, what is to stop him from coming back and asking for more?

Okoye: They wear blue, and they had superhuman strength. And they came from the water on the back of whales. I struck down three of them with blows that should've killed them, but they rose again. I wish to leave immediately to retrieve our princess.
Ramonda: (silently glowers at Okoye)
Okoye: (looks at the queen confused. She looks around at the Elders, who are avoiding eye contact and looking remorseful)
Ramonda: Okoye, you will be stripped of your rank as general of Wakanda's armies, and your status as Dora Milaje.
Okoye: (tearing up, speaks in Xhosa) Permission to speak, my queen?
Ramonda: (fuming and unmoved) You may.
Okoye: (voice breaking) I beg of you, I have given everything! Let me die serving my country and that throne - I am asking you, mother, (gets on her knees) allow me to make this right!
Ramonda: (derisively) "Make it right"? I do not know if my daughter is alive or dead.
M'Kathu: Perhaps... we are being too hasty.
M'Baku: (makes a noise of agreement, but still looks remorsefully away)
M'Kathu: She raised a spear against her own husband for Wakanda!
Ramonda: Where is her treacherous husband now, but in a place where she can visit if she wished?!? Mine (rises to her feet, her voice rising with her) is with the ancestors! I am queen of the most powerful nation in the world! And my entire family is gone! Have I not given everything?!?
Okoye: (silently sobbing as she lowers her head in submission)
Ramonda: (approaches Okoye) On your feet, General. (Okoye complies and rises to her feet) I stood by you after Killmonger took the throne and you and the Elders in this room stood by him, while I went running to the Jabari for protection. And I Warned You about taking my daughter on this mission, and you lost her. So today? I am done.
Okoye: (still sobbing, plants her spear in the ground before Ramonda)
Ramonda: (gives the tiniest of nods to dismiss her)
Okoye: (robotically, but respectfully stands to attention, turns around, and leaves the throne room)

Shuri: How that does make sense, that the ancestors would give me gifts and skills to help me save my brother and I couldn’t? Why?
Namor: I do not have the answer to that question. [beat] My ancestors would often say, “Only the most broken people can be great leaders.”

"I was blinded by hope of partnership. And I have compromised all of us. Talokan will not move again. Namora. Attuma. When we are done with them, they will never think of approaching Talokan! RISE, TALOKAN!"
—Namor's declaration of war against Wakanda in a speech to his people

"In one week's time, I will return with my entire army, and you will join us against the surface world, or I will wash Wakanda from the face of the Earth. Bury your dead. Mourn your losses. (to Shuri) You are Queen now."
—Namor's threat in Wakanda's throne room after the invasion's success

M'Baku: [walks towards Shuri, and respectfully bows at her] Jabariland offers you their comfort for your loss.
[the gesture earned no response from an unresponsive Shuri]
M'Baku: You must mourn her in accordance to the rituals of your ancestors. Do not bury yourself in your technology.
Shuri: [with a drop of rage in her voice] Why are you here? [finally turning to look at M'Baku]
M'Baku: I promised your brother that I would provide you with counsel and protection. [walks closer to Shuri, who turned away] But I'm in need of your advice. [stops and thinks carefully on his words, looking back and forth, before finally speaking while walking even closer to her] The tribal elders have approached me with a proposition. They wish to evacuate the city and set up camp in Jabariland.
Shuri: So now you are keen to hear from a child... who scoffs at tradition? [looks at M'Baku with saddened eyes]
M'Baku: [smiling sadly at Shuri]The world... the world has taken too much from you for you to still be considered a child. It is my people's interest to know which way your mind is leaning.
Shuri: The elders are desperate. The city is vulnerable. If you are to provide for them, they will be in great debt to you.
M'Baku: And what of your heart? [gesturing towards his heart] Hmm? Which way is your heart leaning?
Shuri: [voice broken] I just buried the last person who truly knew me. My heart was buried with her.
[bows to Shuri, which Shuri responds with a small nod, allowing M'Baku to leave]

Shuri: Namor's not finished. He promised to destroy the surface world. Now is our opportunity to take him. What are you afraid of?!
M'Baku: War! If Namor is indeed a god to his people, killing him will risk eternal war.
Shuri: And so what? Was my mother's life not worth eternal war?
M'Baku: Of course it was! Of course. She. Was! [marches towards Shuri] But it is not what she would have wanted for you. Hmm? And that is not what I want for my people. [sits back down on his throne]
Shuri: You speak of my mother as if she's still here. Of what she would've wanted for me. Her hopes and her dreams. But she's dead. She's gone! Namor drowned her, right in front of me! [tearing up] So her dreams, her goals, her hopes for me... [tearfully whispering] It doesn't exist. [grief turning into rage] It doesn't matter anymore. What matters is what I want, and what I want is Namor dead!
M'Baku: [looks in utter shock and horror]
Shuri: And you're going to help me get it. [points at M'Baku] Are we clear?
M'Baku: [grunts silently, trying not to look at her]
Shuri: We leave in the morning. [turns to leave]
M'Baku: [watches her leave with saddened eyes]

M'Baku: (as the Talokanil begin backing up the bulk of the Wakandan soldiers to the edge of the ship, with those unlucky enough to not join the formation falling like mayflies) May the ancestors save us - if the princess does not HURRY!
Ayo: We may be going to join them!
Aneka: Yeah! Let's take as many of them with us as we can!
