Playing With / Revolving Door Band

Basic Trope: A band's lineup changes multiple times.

• Straight: The Tropers change drummers roughly every year.
• Exaggerated: The entire band roster changes roughly every six months.
• Downplayed: After 10 years, the drummer quits and is replaced by someone else.
• Justified:
  • Band members, like any other people, are subject to all kinds of things, including (but not limited to) illness, marital problems, and death.
  • The drummer wants to reinvent himself careerwise, either to get out of the music industry altogether, or to go solo. But, The Tropers need a drummer if they're going to survive as a rock band. So a replacement is needed ASAP.
  • The drummer has gotten into Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll, and either needs time out to recover, or has been fired for violating Contractual Purity.
  • The Tropers are a local Garage Band. They only play events such as private parties and gigs at bars, and have no intention of signing on with a real record label.
  • The Tropers are a band of young boys, and dismiss members when they get too old.
  • The Tropers High Rock Band is a, you guessed it, a high school's band, members leave the moment they graduate to university/college.
• Inverted:
  • After a year of being out of the band, Dave Drummer returns.
  • The Tropers' lineup has not changed in decades.
• Subverted:
  • Lisa Lead-Singer is taking some time off to start a family, but does intend to come back eventually.
  • The Tropers break up after some years of work.
• Double Subverted:
  • But then she decides that her family is more important to her than her music career, and never does come back.
  • One day, they decide to get back together and do a "comeback tour," but some of the members are either not interested in Putting the Band Back Together or are MIA. So they still do the tour, but with a few new members.
• Parodied:
  • The entire band roster changes roughly every week. Nobody, not even the band itself or its record label, knows who's in the band!
  • Every drummer they have dies in some fashion almost yearly.
• Zig Zagged: Several members of the band "come and go". Therefore the band will sometimes have the original founding members, sometimes it won't.
• Averted:
  • The Tropers have had the same roster since The '80s.
  • The band has long since broken up, and isn't planning on getting back together or coming back.

• Invoked: Dave Drummer decides he wants to try his luck with a solo career. Meanwhile, The Tropers have tours and an album release scheduled.

  • The record label uses the opportunity to replace the members that left with new ones.
  • The Tropers use the opportunity to reinvent their musical style.
• Defied: Dave Drummer decides to stay as long as The Tropers are together.
