Go To

Basic Trope: The main cast is involuntarily scattered across the world before they can reach their goal.

  • Straight: At the end of Act II of Tales of Troperia DLC: The Alice Chronicles, Viscount Slaughter escapes the Player Party by casting the Displacement spell on them: Alice becomes trapped on the Sixth Circle of Hell, Boudica is marooned on an Island of Mystery, Charlie is chased by The Wild Hunt through The Lost Woods, while Dmitri ends up in a Thirsty Desert and is promptly Made a Slave by the nomads. Act III then consists of Arbitrarily Serialized Simultaneous Solo Sequences where they find their individual ways back to the First Town.
  • Exaggerated: Every living person on the entire planet (including the villains!) is kicked into a different parallel dimension by the spell.
  • Downplayed: Alice is teleported away from the rest of the party as she is about to land the finishing blow on The Dragon, and they have to go searching for her.
  • Justified: ???
  • Inverted: The Ragtag Bunch of Misfits is magically summoned from different places for a mission.
  • Subverted: The Dragon's spell wears off after a few hours and the heroes are teleported back together again after a cutscene.
  • Double Subverted: The spell seems to wear off, allowing the party to exchange their locations, but takes effect once again, stranding them in their respective predicaments permanently.
  • Parodied: The party is scattered... into different rooms within the same building.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: The party is never forcibly split at any point in the game.
  • Enforced: Every party member gains a unique power post-scattering, and the devs decided to give each of them their own mini-arc before they all join back together again.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: It so happens that Charlie had a Recall spell prepared for just such an occasion, allowing him to regather the entire party just in time to catch up with The Dragon.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Each party member lands in a personal Ironic Hell of the hilariously embarrassing variety: Alice is back with her excessively doting family, Boudica butts heads with a legion of Obstructive Bureaucrats, Charlie joins a primitive tribe that holds him for The Fool, and Dmitri has to cross-dress to hide in a sultan's harem.
  • Played For Drama: Each party member believes themselves to be the Sole Survivor, and much time is devoted to their feelings of loss and loneliness in the wake of their friends' presumed deaths.
