Playing With / "No Peeking!" Request

Go To

Basic Trope: A character warns another not to peek or look at them while they perform an action.

  • Straight:
    • Bob needs to change his clothes and asks Alice to turn around while he does it.
    • Alice asks Bob not to look at her while she sings for him.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob locks up Alice in another room so he can change without worrying about her peeking.
    • Alice blindfolds and ties up Bob so he can't look at her while she sings.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice accidentally walks in on Bob coming out of the shower naked and he just calmly asks her for a few seconds so he can get dressed.
    • Alice asks Bob not to look at her while she sings, but changes her mind after he insists.
  • Justified:
    • Bob is very shy and isn't intimate with Alice, so he would be extremely embarrassed to be seen naked by her.
    • Alice suffers from Performance Anxiety and still isn't confident enough about her singing skills to be comfortable doing it while someone is watching.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob starts changing right in front of Alice, prompting her to call him a pervert and demands him to change somewhere else.
    • Bob convinces Alice to allow him to listen to her sing by promising he won't be looking at her while she does it.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...But all Alice sees in the reflection is Bob giving her a Death Glare, so she gives up on peeking and stares at the wall instead.
    • ...But Carol also fails to sing because Alice starts watching her instead.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob demands Alice not to look at him while he changes despite the fact they're Happily Married for years.
    • Alice holds a concert where she has the entire audience turned away from her so she can perform.
  • Zig Zagged:
    • Bob asks Alice to turn around so he can change, but she refuses and teases him about being shy. Bob then does a Defiant Strip in front of Alice, who loses her nerve and turns around, asking him to Please Put Some Clothes On.
    • Alice requests Bob to not look while she sings, but midway through the song he turns around and she keeps going without an issue. Then Carol walks in and causes Alice to freak out and stop.
  • Averted:
  • Lampshaded:
    • Bob asks Alice not to peek while he's changing and jokes it's usually the girl asking that of the guy.
    • Alice makes note that her inability to sing while being watched is irrational.
  • Invoked: Bob is The Tease and asks the shy Alice not to peek at him while he changes just to make her blush.
  • Exploited:
    • Bob is Alice's prisoner and takes the opportunity of her giving him privacy to change to make his escape.
    • Alice is actually planning to kill Bob, so she strikes him In the Back when he turns away from her.
  • Defied:
    • Bob thinks about warning Alice not to peek while he changes, but he decides to trust her not to do it on her own instead.
    • Alice asks Bob not to look while she sings but then gathers courage and tells him otherwise.
  • Discussed:
    • "Bob asked me not to peek while he changed, does he really think I'm a pervert?"
    • "Could you look the other way while I sing? It makes me feel less nervous, somehow."
  • Conversed: "Is there a point in asking someone not to look? I think that may only make them more curious and want to look even more".
  • Played For Laughs:
    • Bob is a confident The Casanova, so his sudden request for Alice not to peek on him as he's changing clothes is seen as humorous due to it being unexpected.
    • Alice request for Bob not to stare at her while she sings is played for laughs due to the absurdity, with Bob being weirded out by the request.
  • Played For Drama: Bob is a victim of sexual abuse so Alice takes his request very seriously.
