The Movie

  • The first half of Family of Me illustrates how hopeless and alone he feels, but the second half (kicked off by him getting the magazine page to the suburbs) shows how RJ regains hope.
    It's not a first
    (Might be the last)
Yeah, I'm sure I must've been through worse, but
    Ooh, it's all right
Got a paddle and a creek
    Yeah, and it's all right
Cause I've always got my family of me
  • RJ's Heel–Face Turn, when he realizes that the rest of the animals really were his family.
RJ: But I already had that.
Vincent: What, them? Who are you kidding? You said it yourself, you're a family of one. Trust me, you don't need them.
RJ: Actually, I do. ... And right now, they really need me. (grabs Vincent's cooler wagon) So I really need this!
  • Towards the end of Hammy's Bullet Time scene, we pan up to see that Verne managed to slip his shell onto RJ just in time to save him from being devoured by Vincent.
    • Prior to that, we get this scene:
RJ: Verne, get everybody outta here!
    Verne: Huh?!
    RJ: I'll distract him!
Verne: Are you crazy? He'll kill you!
RJ: I'm the one he wants! Just take care of your family, Verne!
Verne: I intend to! The whole family!
  • After Heather is kicked into a wall and Ozzie mourns her apparent death, she wakes up and says that she "learned from the best".
  • When Tiger reveals how he feels about Stella, you can tell that she's really touched.
Stella: The smell doesn't bother you?
Tiger: This face was bred for beauty. I cannot smell a thing.
    Stella: You... can't smell...
  • The fact that Verne was the first to forgive RJ for betraying the group after spending most of the movie being very cautious of him.
    • What's more, after the climax, Verne confides that if RJ had been honest from the start about needing all that food to save himself from Vincent, they would've helped him regardless. RJ's a little bummed that his lies were All for Nothing, but it's nice to know that Verne and the other animals are just that generous.
    • What's more, the animals accepting RJ as the newest member of their family, complete with Hammy coming up to give the same genuine hug as before. And this time, RJ reciprocates it.
  • After RJ inadvertently reveals how the food they're stealing is for Vincent instead of them and leaves everybody stupefied, he reaches for the Spuddies and falls after slipping on the wine bottles along with Verne...but before they both fell, Verne reached out and tried to grab him. Even though RJ's just admitted that he's been dishonest with them, proving that Verne was right about him all along, Verne doesn't care. He still considers him a friend.
    • What's more, when the animals try to throw RJ out the van, unaware of his Heel–Face Turn, Verne objects and tells them he's good now because his tail isn't twitching. Redemption Rejection, not today! (Also sweet unto itself is how they regard his judgement this time around, as opposed to brushing off his warning that RJ couldn't be trusted.)
  • The reaction of the Hedgies when they discover the "new" Stella.
    Heather: You're, like... Wow!
  • With a simple and sincere "I'm Sorry," the others instantly forgive Verne for his unintended insult towards them.

The Game

  • Vincent initially allies himself with the hedgies based on their shared goal of taking down the Verminator. However, as the game goes on, he gradually starts to bond with them and eventually pulls a Heel–Face Turn to become a member of the family. By the Playable Epilogue, he's still in the woods, and their past animosity has been completely forgotten.
    • Notably, while the adults are justifiably a bit uneasy around Vincent at first, the porcupine kids immediately bond with him, and Vincent in turn takes a shine to them. One scene has them watching Shrek SuperSlam; Vincent loudly burps to amuse them with a big smile on his face as they hang off him.
RJ: Aw, he's just like a giant teddy bear. With anger issues. And half-eaten bats on his breath...
