Funny / Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness

Go To

Even a game based on Mario creepypastas and other horror-themed fan works is bound to have plenty of laughs aplenty.

Moments pages are Spoilers Off. You Have Been Warned!

Story Mode

  • The mod's opening cutscene is full of funny moments:
    • The cursed MARIO cartridge is delivered to Boyfriend and Girlfriend by an Among Us Crewmate dressed as a deliveryman, complete with a Wham Shot, before it promptly leaves as quickly as it arrived.
    • Boyfriend's Nintendo Entertainment System has the words "Penis" and "Balls" written on the power and reset buttons respectively.
    • Once Boyfriend starts playing the cartridge, it plays World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros., except the sound effects are replaced by comical stock noises.
      • While the part where the game glitches when Mario dies is meant to be creepy, paying close attention reveals the background audio actually comes from the highly memetic MARIO SCREAMING video.
    • After being confronted by Super Horror Mario, Girlfriend steps forth, complete with confident Knuckle Cracking as she activates her demon powers to use against him... and promptly fails. Horror Mario himself is unimpressed, giving the viewer an Aside Glance.
      • What's more, you can faintly hear a familiar "NO" when Girlfriend fails to use her powers.
    • Girlfriend's reaction to when Boyfriend accepts Super Horror Mario's offer of fighting him:
      Girlfriend: WHAT?!!!
  • Midway through "Starman Slaughter" provides some rather amusing Mood Whiplash; after Super Horror Mario's Parabones lackey leaves, he starts singing solo… only for his turn to be abruptly cut short as Yoshi.exe makes his entrance via a Ground Pound onto a POW Block, sending SHM falling into the fiery depths below.
    • The old instrumental for the song makes the interrupted moment even better, with the music starting to pick up in pace again after Parabones leaves before promptly stopping when Yoshi.exe knocks SHM off.
  • Overdue, between the horrified visuals, does offer a fair few laughs. Mr L frequently flashes Pico an L-shape over his head, every line out of Pico involves him cussing, and even as he's running through a hallway flanked by dancing Mr L's, the gunner frequently flashes them both middle fingers.
  • Pausing the game during certain songs will have alternate pause themes. Almost all of them are jokes in and of themselves.
    • "Nourishing Blood" has the title screen music for Mario Paint, remixed to include Joel saying "Who's been drawing DICKS?"
    • "Apparition" is replaced with the pause music to Wario World, and is thus Wario mocking you for having to stop and take a breather.
  • Cruel and sadistic monster that M is, he is still derived from a Nintendo character. And what do most Nintendo games do nowadays if you play for long enough?
  • The ending credits' images (which are both non-canon and a reference to Super Mario Bros. 3, as stated by Word of God) include a number of humorous ones:
    • Horror Mario Face Doodling a mustache on a sleeping Boyfriend and Girlfriend.
    • MX smiling like a giant goober as he and Lucas meet Boyfriend.
    • Turmoil, Mr. Virtual and GB playing dominoes, with the former two looking cheeky while GB looks like he's about to lose his shit after losing to Mr. Virtual by one tile.
    • An annoyed Girlfriend standing in a "PROPS" room (which happens to include both Lucas' severed head from "Powerdown" and her own dead corpse from "Demise", the latter of which now sporting a price tag of 15 dollars) while MX laughs his ass off at her.
    • Ultra M being revealed to be three people in a suit, consisting of Horror Mario, GB, and I HATE YOU Luigi. And judging by the looks on the latter two's faces, they are CLEARLY not having a good time.
  • Losing too much on a song? IHY Luigi gets so sick of watching you fail that he just asks if he can do it for you so everyone can move on with their varying states of life. What sells it is that it's presented as a Super Mario Maker-esque pop-up that would show up to offer a tip, complete with IHY Luigi dressed in an appropriately-themed outfit.

Meta

  • In the game's files, there are multiple memes related to the mod and all of them are hilarious. With one showing the mod's cast (with the exception of Beta Luigi and Racist Mario) reenacting the "we are going to beat you to death" meme, one of Beta Luigi consoling Boyfriend after he gets depressed because Girlfriend didn't show him a tit, etc.
  • The FunkKast 2023 trailer has IHY Luigi admit that they overestimated the mod's release, but proposes an actual release date for it... only for GB to butt in and claim the mod will never come out. Cue them both arguing between them (IHY defending the developers and how they have lives, while GB argues about the Schedule Slip), with it leading to them bashing each other up. The then-yet-to-be-revealed Ultra M (aka. Super Horror Mario's final form) personally has to separate them.
    • When Marco Antonio had to clarify they overestimated the release date yet again, he included a doodle of GB mocking an incensed IHY Luigi for his faith in the mod's developers.
    • As another Brick Joke, one of the ending credits' images is IHY Luigi looking smug and vindicated while GB admits that the mod finally came out, but only because he "roasted their asses in front of one thousand people".
  • Checking through the files on Y0SH reveals that his placeholder is surprisingly Beeg Yoshi!
  • With how long V2 took to make, it's little surprise the developers confirmed that this was the final major update for the project. Which they did in typical shitposter fashion by adding an easter egg for typing in "v3" on the main menu.
[A clip from Family Guy begins, with Peter Griffin walking into the kitchen at night to turn on the lights. He finds Chris, despondent after having opened every single cabinet to find them all empty.]
    Chris: There's nothing.
    Peter: Thank you, son.
[Peter turns the light off and leaves the room]
  • Following V2's release, Marco Antonio posted a Christmas doodle consisting of most of the characters on the roster. While the idea of a bunch of creepy Mario characters celebrating the holidays together is funny as it is, there are hysterical details worth pointing out:
    • Mr. L and Mr. Virtual decorating a tree together.
    • Classified Luigi staring at a cookie he's holding, unable to eat it since he lacks a mouth.
    • Horror Mario sitting next to Horror Peach while smugly holding a coffee mug that reads "I killed that midget".
    • Mr. Sys looking no less smug than the two as he wears a shirt reading, what else, "You cannot beat us".
    • Some members of the gang open up a present. What's inside, you may ask? A slip of paper that says "MM V3?? NEVER".
    GB: LOL
    • MX, dressed as Santa Claus nonetheless, has to squat down to be with the others due to his immense height.
    • And finally, Boyfriend and Girlfriend's decapitated heads hung up in the background like stockings.
