- Childhood Friend Romance: Woo-jin and Joon-yeong meet in the fifth grade and get together in the eleventh grade.

- Driven to Suicide: Cheong-san in chapter four, as his grief over having to stay away from On-jo comes to a head. Joon-yeong fears that he'll eventually get that bad the longer he hides from Woo-jin.
- Drowning My Sorrows: Defied. When Woo-jin tells Jaeseok about Joon-yeong, he eyes the glass that the older boy just drank from. Jaeseok quickly puts a stop to his train of thinking, telling him that this trope is a lame way to go.
- Faking the Dead: Joon-yeong lets his loved ones believe he's dead for their own safety.
- First-Episode Twist: At the end of the first chapter, which was dedicated to Woo-jin coping with Joon-yeong's death, it's revealed that Joon-yeong isn't so dead after all.
- Good Parents: Seong-min by all accounts, grieving her son but still remaining put-together in order to care for her daughter and for her son's boyfriend. Kang-dae and Ji-an were this before their son died. Dal-hoon eventually learns to be this, though he still struggles, but really does his best in chapter five, to the point that Woo-jin briefly considers the possibility that he's better off with his father than the love of his life (though he does acknowledge that he's just lying to himself.)
- Green-Eyed Monster: When Joon-yeong learns that Woo-jin has befriended Nam-ra's older brother, he becomes very anxious that Woojin has moved on with someone new.
- Heroic BSoD: After losing his boyfriend and his sister dying for him, Woo-jin is understandably devastated and falls into a deep depression.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Ha-ri sacrificed herself in order for her little brother to survive.
- The Lost Lenore: Woo-jin thinks that Joon-yeong is this, and is grieving deeply.
- The Mourning After: After Joon-yeong sacrifices himself, Woo-jin falls into a deep depression.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Gender-Inverted. Nam-ra is less than happy about Joon-yeong's fear that Woo-jin and Jaeseok are an item.
- Not So Stoic: Dal-hoon, after months of grieving his daughter and looking for his son, breaks down upon reuniting with Woo-jin.
- Official Couple Ordeal Syndrome: Woo-jin and Joon-yeong get together with little drama before the events of the series. Unfortunately, they're torn apart after Joon-yeong gets bitten and miss each other to an extreme extent.
- One True Love: Joon-yeong to Woo-jin and Woo-jin to Joon-yeong.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
- In the first chapter, Woo-jin is severely depressed as a result of his sister and boyfriend's deaths. He's not exactly doing great after Seongmin helps him recover but it's definitely at its worst before her intervention.
- The first thing Dalhoon does when he sees Woo-jin is cry and hug him. Woo-jin notes that this is unlike his unemotional father, and that the loss of his wife and daughter really weathered him down.
- Outliving One's Offspring:
- Seong-min thinks she's this.
- Dal-hoon actually does suffer from this after Ha-ri's death.
- Yoo Jian and Lieutenant Song Kangdae lose their only child and it ruins their marriage.
- Poor Communication Kills: After Woo-jin comes out to his father, they stop speaking to one another in any meaningful way, and Woo-jin believes this is because Dal-hoon is uncomfortable with it. It turns out that they were both waiting for the other to approach him, and they both thought the other was avoiding him.
- Reasonable Authority Figures: Park Seong-min, Joon-yeong's mother, takes care of the grieving Woo-jin while mourning Joon-yeong herself.
- Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Turns out Joon-yeong isn't so dead after all.
- Secret Relationship: Woo-jin and Joon-yeong hide their Relationship Upgrade from their friends, and even after the apocalypse, they hide the true depth of their grief and pain at being apart.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Because of Cheong-san's close friendship with both boys, he was able to discern that they had begun dating, only knowing for sure because of Joon-yeong's fear of getting too close to the rest of their friends. He doesn't mention it until he throws it in Joon-yeong's face.
- Separated by the Wall: When Woojin and Seongmin go to retrieve Joon-yeong's things from his room, he locks the door and hides behind it, crying as they have to give up and leave.
- True Companions: The hambies (+ Min-jae) band together in order to survive while in hiding.
