Movie Mode is a Minecraft: Story Mode fanfiction where the cast is transported to a mansion where they watch the game on a screen. Each Season sees new characters who would appear in the Season subsequently appear in the Mansion. As more characters appear, the plot outside of the watching becomes more complex and personal. This Work contains examples of:
- Annoying Arrows: An added scene in Season 2 Episode 2 shows Jesse getting shot numerous times. While one arrow gets through his armor, it doesn't go very deep and by the end, he's more annoyed then hurt.
- Agonizing Stomach Wound: Jesse dies the first time to one of these — the narration mentions his intestines spilling out.
- Blood from the Mouth: A common symptom of characters who have met It — if you try and tell anyone, you begin to cough up blood.
- Blood-Splattered Innocents: Olivia, one of Jesse's closest friends, is the one to witness his death first-hand.
- Break the Cutie: Movie Mode contains many examples of this:
- The main character, Jesse, was manipulated and murdered, then had to come back and live with the fact that his murderer was threatening his family and friends.
- Olivia had to watch Jesse's murder.
- Lukas, who was murdered in a particularly violent way during the Second Cluedo Game.
- Cerebus Syndrome: The first chapter is fast-paced and slightly cartoonish, with characters acting still as if they are in the game. By the time Part 1 of Season 1 is over, however, the characters' have become much more serious as the events they watch increase in severity. The story also becomes more violent by the beginning of Season 2, and a mystery element introduced is much more extreme than anyone would have expected in the beginning.
- Endless Daytime: For a while, this was how the characters, readers, and narrator assumed the Mansion worked. As it turns out, each phase of the sky is just very long — sunset lasts weeks, and that's not even getting into how long nighttime lasts.
- Family of Choice: Every character eventually develops a familial relationship with another in this story. The New Order consisting of Jesse, Axel, Olivia, Petra, and Lukas is one such example — they refer to each other as siblings on a fairly frequent basis. Each of the minors also has a parental figure or two — Jesse, Jessi, and Radar have Ivor and Harper, Axel and Olivia have Magnus and Ellegaard, Petra has Gabriel, Lukas and Cassie have Soren, the Blaze Rods have Isa and Milo, and Nell seems to be developing one with Mevia.
- Fantastic Racism: When Hadrian insults Nurm (Saying none of them can understand him and he should shut up), Jack calls him a racist piece of shit. Hadrian then says that Villagers aren't people, and you can get them from spawn eggs. Jack literally has to be held back from murder, and Nurm is offended.
- Knight of Cerebus: "It", AKA Fred. Its first appearance sets the story on a darker route, and every subsequent appearance darkens it further.
- Mythology Gag: After Gabriel is discovered with amnesia onscreen, a remark is made that if Jesse had saved him instead, Petra would become an amnesiac in his place and Gabriel would contract Wither Sickness.
- No Body Left Behind: Whenever someone dies, they poof into a cloud of dust and leave their inventory behind. This fact is especially heart-wrenching when Jesse dies — his inventory is covered in his dust and blood from the wound that killed him.
- Portrait Painting Peephole: Jessi resides in the walls of the Mansion and watches the proceedings of the mansion through paintings, usually one of a sheep in the Watching Room.
