"Beat Your Heart Out
" is a Harry Potter fanfic where Ginny Weasley finds herself pregnant with Harry Potter's child during the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

- Adaptational Villainy: Of a sort; Crabbe was known to have become more evil under the Carrows in canon, but here, he tortures another student to death (one of at least three who are killed that year); the Carrows had to tell him to back off somewhat and be glad it wasn't a Pureblood.
- Age Lift: James Sirius Potter is several years older than his canon counterpart, thanks to being born near the end of Deathly Hallows, making him a few days younger than Teddy Lupin. At the end of the fic, Albus Severus and Lily Luna are both born before James is old enough to start Hogwarts, making them too significantly older than they are in canon.
- Agony of the Feet: When Mr. Weasley tried to build a bench the year before Ron went to Hogwarts, Percy accidentally stood on a nail and was hobbled for three days.
- But We Used a Condom!: Contraceptive example. Ginny took a contraceptive potion before having sex with Harry, but it didn't work because the boomslang skin was expired.

- Cool and Unusual Punishment: Professor McGonagall has any underage student who stayed behind to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts be responsible for the cleanup.
- Covered in Gunge: Ron wound up dunked in paint during Mr. Weasley's disastrous attempt to build a bench.
- Fire-Forged Friends: Ginny and Astoria Greengrass kind of develop this dynamic, as she too hates Hogwarts under the Carrows and begins working with the DA.
- For Want Of A Nail: The main divergence from canon is that Ron didn't interrupt the kiss between Harry and Ginny in Chapter 7 of Deathly Hallows.
- In Spite of a Nail: The plot beats remain pretty much the same as in canon. The only real difference is Ginny's pregnancy and the birth of James Sirius before the war is over — if it hadn't been for that one very central part of the fic, it could have counted as a straight-up P.O.V. Sequel to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
