A Princess, a Treehugger, and a Space Cadet Walk Into a Library
is an Animorphs fanfic by SoloMoon, author of Eleutherophobia and All Assorted Animorphs AUs. The Animorphs are all ordinary teenagers stuck in detention like in The Breakfast Club, and spend their time getting to know each other and becoming friends.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- Adaptation Species Change: Ax is a human instead of an Andalite.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Jake mentions that Tom "hasn't been himself lately". Since there are no aliens, we can only assume this version of Tom became distant from Jake of his own volition.
- Air-Vent Passageway: Tobias and Marco fall out of one into the library.
- The Breakfast Plot: The story puts the Animorphs in the plot of The Breakfast Club.
- Dean Bitterman: Chapman, the assistant principal. Not much is different from his canon characterization or the principal from the movie.
- Foreshadowing: In the conversation about Tobias's fake ID, there are several hints (his voice not changing yet, his aunt not getting his name right) that make sense with The Reveal that he's transgender.
- Funny Foreigner: Ax is a foreign exchange student with very odd Character Tics, like eating pencils.
- The Reveal: Tobias allows Rachel to touch his chest when they're alone, revealing that he's transgender.
- Take That!: Tobias shows no hesitation in ripping pages out of All the King's Men to roll into joints, declaring the book to be "racist as fuck".
- Transplanted Character Fic: It's the Animorphs characters in the plot of The Breakfast Club.
- Mundanization: There are no aliens, so the Animorphs are ordinary teenagers, and their personal problems are adjusted to reflect this. For example, Ax is now from a foreign country, though he still has a wicked blade and eats something that looks like grass clippings.
