Dethroning Moment / My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic

Go To

There is a lot to hate about Mykan's retelling of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic to begin with, but these are the reasons why Starfleet should be overthrown.

Keep in mind:

  • Sign your entries
  • One moment per work to a troper. If multiple entries are signed to the same troper the more recent one will be cut.
  • Moments only, no "just everything he said," or "This entire show," or "This entire series" entries.
  • No contesting entries. This is subjective and the entry is their opinion.
  • No natter. As above, anything contesting an entry will be cut, and anything that's just contributing more can be made its own entry.
  • Explain why it's a Dethroning Moment of Suck.
  • No Real Life examples, including Executive Meddling. It only invites a flame war.
  • No ALLCAPS, no bold, and no italics unless it's the title of a work. We are not yelling the DMoSs out loud.

  • Nisjay Cakecup: My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic wasn't particularly good to begin with (Check the YMMV page to see why), but there is one example that's the zenith of Mykan's cruelty towards Cadence in Season 5 Chapter 17. To make the long story short, Cadence winds up having a miscarriage. To make things worse, his author's notes even said so before the chapter begins, just to rub the salt in the wounds on Cadence's fans. And none of Starfleet even tries to help prevent such.
    • Psyga315: You know you've gone down the deep end when, prior to this, the author held a poll of whether the baby or Shining dies with no third option. Having Cadance's fans' wounds be salted is one thing. Forcing a Sophie's Choice upon them is another. Especially with Word of God's intent explicitly stated to be torturing Cadance.
  • Iowaforever: The fic's mere existence is itself a Dethroning Moment, but where the fic truly crosses the threshold of irredeemable badness would have to be when Mykan brings Equestria into the original fic. After saying how much he hates the series, how different his series is, and how he didn't want to get involved much with My Little Pony beyond his hatred for it, he goes right back on his word and brings in the characters anyway. It's all downhill from there.
  • Dr.XXX: While this trash was terrible, the thing that broke the camel's back was Ace Ray's Mind Rape. This was played as a good thing. On what planet is it considered okay for someone to strip away the free will of another creature and play it as if it was the purest heroic?
  • SenorCornholio: Changing my entry to reflect the death of Twilight Sparkle and its aftermath. No, it's not the fact that Mykan killed off my favorite character from the source material. No, it's not how Starfleet blames her for her own death. No. It's what Celestia, her own loving mentor, does afterwards: not only does she agree with the notion that it's Twilight's fault she died, despite the fact that she tried to save her, but she also takes her place as the Element of Magic! If this was Canon!Celestia, she'd have fried Starfleet in an instant for even daring to imply such a thing, and possibly tried to find a way to bring her back, not perform this utter bastardizing of her character! If Mykan even cared about storytelling instead of his own selfish desires to see the characters tortured, he'd have known this! On the plus side, I no longer have anything holding me back from tearing this fic a new one; I already knew of Twilight's death and how Starfleet treated her in passing, but I never would have thought that the fic would stoop this low. If Ace Ray's mind rape was the straw that broke the camel's back, then this was what entirely crushed the camel's spine.
  • Vampireandthen: Guys, be real. This fanfic has several dethroning moments of suck. Mykan himself should be given his own page for dethroning moments of suck, considering his other "work" such as the one where Kari adopts a child solely to make TK think she was married and leave her alone. However, that isn't my choice. No, it is the fact Shining Armor and Cadence were made sterile, and keep the nursery they made for any future children, as well that whole business with the miscarried fetus. I mean, sweet Jesus, Mykan, I seriously don't care that these are fictional characters, you can't write shit like that and expect people to be okay with it! That is not okay! That is never okay! That's not writing! It's called sadism! I might buy you being nicer to real life people had I not seen evidence to the contrary with my own eyes. Mykan, simply annoyed his favourite characters didn't end up together, elected to put Cadence through this because she is happily married, and acts like she deserves it! I have to stop now, because I might end up breaking every single rule about posting a dethroning moment in the next few sentences.
  • Tomhur: Oddly enough, my dethroning moment of suck is a moment not talked about often. It's the scene in season 3 episode 22 where Starla asks Cadance to do her and Twilight's happy dance for luck...after Twilight has died. And Cadance does it with a smile on her face. This...this is awful. This is probably one of the most heinous and spiteful things Mykan has ever written. It's devaluing Cadance and Twilight's relationship in the worst possible way. If I were in Cadance's position, I'd tell Starla to screw off for even thinking that this dance was something that could just be exchangeable when it was meant to be something special between friends, especially since said friend died not too long ago! And the worst part is, as far as I can tell, Cadance and Starla don't even really have that close of a relationship. If Cadance was Starla's best friend or something, it would still be a horrible and insensitive thing to do but I at least could understand it more. But Cadance and Starla barely have any sort of relationship. As far as I can tell, this wedding is the only meaningful moment the two have had! I honestly can't tell if Mykan didn't realize the full implications of what he wrote or if he wrote it as a deliberate "Fuck you" to Twilight. Honestly, this might piss me off more than Celestia blaming Twilight for her own death because it comes off as even more insensitive and tries to play it off as something innocent.
