A Diesel Punk fantasy story currently being written by Billie Cardboard. Set in another world, one of flying continents, skywhales, airships, and automatons with crystal brains.

This page is somewhat of a placeholder, I intend to fill it out more soon.

Ogre Princess contains examples of:

  • Ace Pilot: Jade's been flying planes for as long as she's been able to, and spends as much time in the air as she can. She's flown in guard patrols, hunting expeditions, stunt shows, and county fairs. She takes comfort in not being seen when she's in the air, up there she's just another pilot or voice on the radio.
  • Cataclysm Backstory: The world shattered nearly three thousand years ago as all the landmasses rose from the seas into the skies and devastated the early bronze age civilizations of the world.
  • Cowardly Lion: Packrat the automaton may be fairly adverse to danger and conflict, but when push comes to shove it's important to remember that he was originally a combat model.
  • Dishonored Dead: One of the gravest insults imaginable for ogres is to bury someone's mortal remains, as it's believed you must be cremated to release your spirit into the afterlife. Next-of-kin are traditionally unable to inherit titles or property until the deceased are fully released from the world; which is why Jade's status as an "ogre princess" isn't worth much at the start of the story, her ancestor's bones were interred and the ruling title never passed down.
  • Genius Bruiser: As an ogre Jade is large and intimidating, and she's used that to her advantage all her life; but she's always wanted to be a biologist. She spent her youth studying any textbooks she could get her hands on, as no universities near where she grew up accepted ogre students. She almost instinctively recites the scientific names of interesting animals whenever she sees them, trying to hold on to what she can remember.
  • Grand Theft Me: The titular Ogre Princess' body is stolen by an extraordinarily powerful human psychic early in the story as part of an attempt to gain control of the ogre tribes, inadvertently dumping Jade into the psychic's old human body. Jade is not pleased about this development.
  • Great Offscreen War: The Great War ended ten years before the events of Ogre Princess.
  • Ocean Punk: While only referenced by the main story, this is what life is like for the Seafolk on the great ocean. Some live in nomadic fleets while others live in massive floating cities, but all have to contend with constant storms and the ever-present threat of pirates (of both the sea and sky varieties).
  • Religious Robot: Packrat is a devout follower of the Tiiric Trine despite most denominations claiming that automatons have no souls.
  • Psychic Powers: Ever since the cataclysm some humans are born with telepathic abilities, although the exact reasons for this are still poorly understood.
  • The Sky Is an Ocean: The setting is essentially built on this. While a literal ocean exists beneath it all, it's a world of flying continents, skywhales, and airships.
