Joseph Walton Losey III (January 14, 1909 – June 22, 1984), an accomplished American director, producer, and screenwriter, hailed from Wisconsin. His educational journey led him to Germany, where he studied under the mentorship of Bertolt Brecht, before eventually returning to the United States. In the 1950s, Hollywood blacklisted Losey, prompting him to relocate to Europe, where he crafted the majority of his films, primarily in the United Kingdom. Noteworthy among his works are the films featuring screenplays penned by Harold Pinter, such as The Servant (1963) and The Go-Between (1971), both earning both critical acclaim and commercial success.
