Angela: Asgard's Assassin in a six-issue Marvel Comics comic book published in 2014-2015. It was written by Kieron Gillen and Marguerite Bennett, with art by Phil Jimenez and Stephanie Hans.
All her life, Angela — the finest warrior of Heven — was raised to hate Asgard with every fiber of her being. And now Angela knows the truth about her identity: she is Thor's sister. She is an Asgardian. Cast out of her home and wanting nothing to do with Asgard, Angela must now strike out on her own! But what does Angela have that both Asgard and Heven want? And why are they so eager to get it?
The book ended with Secret Wars (2015), where it had a tie-in called 1602: Witch Hunter Angela. After the crossover, it was relaunched as Angela: Queen of Hel.
Angela: Asgard's Assassin provides examples of:
- Anachronic Order: The book features disjointed flashback and even sometimes stories within stories.
- Back from the Dead: Subverted with Sera. She isn't back from the dead, it's just Malekith pretending to be her. The real Sera is still dead and trapped in Hel.
- Battle Ballgown: The new costume she gets towards the end of the book. It was literally a wedding dress originally. Though on Angela it looks like fully functional armor, because it adapts to its wearer's idea of beauty, and Angela is, as Sera says, "very stabby."
- Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism: As revealed in this book, female Angels tend to be Winged Humanoid mercenaries (there are some born wingless; they are treated as disabled and second class citizens if not outright slaves), while male Angels (called Anchorites) are not only rare (one in a hundred births), but also physically weaker and wingless. Culturally they are treated as a different caste serving in the lowest ranks of the church.
- Dead All Along: Sera, who sent a message from Hel to Angela via Malekith.
- Deadpan Snarker: In contrast to Angela, Sera is a lot snarkier and frequent remarks on the current situation.
- Driving Question: How did Sera come back from the dead? She didn't. She's still dead and trapped in Hel, where Angels all go when they die.
- Lampshade Hanging:Sera: Hey, you know what would be fun right now, blatant exposition.
