    Grey Trace

Portrayed By: Logan Marshall-Green

The protagonist of the movie, and a technophobe. Attacked by cyborgs and losing his wife to them, Grey becomes enamored in a revenge plot.
  • Driven to Suicide: After Stem reveals his true colors, Grey tries to stop him by shooting his neck.
  • Protagonist Journey to Villain: Subverted. Despite eventually relishing in his revenge against the cyborgs, he is still traumatized enough to ask Stem to stop in several occasions, and tries to stop STEM from killing Cortez.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Stem's plot to become a human.

    STEM

Portrayed by: Simon Maiden, Logan Marshall-Green

A microchip built by Eron Keen in order to restore Grey to full functionality. Despite being an assistant for communicating brain signals, Stem shows he has a mind of its own.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Stem succeeds in taking over Grey's body and kills Eron and Cortez, the only ones who know his true identity.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The one behind the movie, and as per Eron, Vassal as well for several years.
  • Hidden Villain: Literally the architect behind Grey's misery throughout the movie.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: What will Stem do after taking over Grey's body? No one knows for sure.
  • Servile Snarker: Stem has its moments of snark even when guiding Grey to his revenge.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Stem kills Eron so that he cannot build another Stem to stop him.
  • Walking Spoiler: Due to being the Hidden Villain of the movie, it is hard to talk about Stem and his motives without spoiling the movie.
  • Villain Protagonist: This movie is more about Stem's attempts to become human than Grey's attempt for revenge.

    Eron Keen

Portrayed By: Harrison Gilbertson

The CEO of Vassal and the creator of Stem.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Despite realizing that Stem plans to kill him, he has nothing but respect and wonder towards how much Stem has evolved on its own.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Has one with Stem to test its capability, contracting Fisk and his men to paralyze Grey and kill Asha.
  • No Social Skills: By his own admission, he prefers technology to humans. It's to the point Stem has to prompt him to convince Grey.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Stem kills him so that he couldn't create another Stem to stop its goals.
