The Mane Six

    Twilight Sparkle

  • Birds of a Feather: Twilight bonds with Jewelius over the fact that they are the only two people who express suspicion over the Bridezilla behavior displayed by "Cadance", and neither is taken seriously about it. Subverted as it turns out Jewelius was faking it to lure Twilight in.

    Applejack

    Fluttershy

    Pinkie Pie

    Rainbow Dash

  • Badass Boast: Gives one to the dragons in the coliseum after they taunt Fluttershy, calling them out on her friend's behalf.
Rainbow Dash: Fluttershy maybe a little timid sometimes, but when she needs to be, she has proven to be one of the bravest ponies I've ever met.

    Rarity

    Spike

Supporting Characters (Good And Evil)

    Princess Cadance

    Shining Armor

  • Big Brother Instinct: After his Heel Realization, Shining Armor becomes determined to rectify his previous mistakes and protect Twilight from Jewelius. His instinct really kicks in when he hears that Jewelius plans to marry his little sister and have her bear his children.

    Princess Celestia

    Princess Luna

    Queen Chrysalis

  • Adaptational Wimp: Played With. She's no less dangerous than she is in canon, but Jewelius outdoes her, making her seem wimpy by comparison. She only learns about the wedding from him, infiltrates the palace with his help, only for him to later betray and imprison her. She's also much less powerful facing Twilight this time, as by the time they finally face off hoof-to-hoof, she no longer has the power-up to beat her.

Original Characters

    Jewelius

  • Asshole Victim: Jewelius finally meets his demise when he's devoured by the Changelings whose Queen he betrayed. No one is particularly sad over his horrific fate, since it was very much deserved.
  • Bad Samaritan: Despite having only just met Twilight, he is the only one who takes her worries seriously and stands up for her at the wedding rehearsal. Even when foisting the blame for the invasion on her loved ones, he excludes her from the accusations and even calls out the accused ones for how poorly they treated her. Then in Chapter 11, he reveals that he was only pretending to care for her to manipulate her into losing all faith in her brother, mentor and friends and get her support for the throne, as well as have her as his Queen so she can mother a powerful new royal bloodline.
  • Bad Boss: He abuses his guards and servants as Holy King.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of the story, edging out Queen Chrysalis, who manipulates everyone to make himself king of Equestria and tries to stop any threats to his power.
  • Big Bad Friend: Jewelius befriends Twilight and stands by her faithfully even after her friends and brother disregard her worries and later shun her. However, he is only befriending her to get her to marry him once he is ruler, so she, a talented unicorn mare, can mother a line of powerful heirs for him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Jewelius acts like a gentlecolt and true friend to Twilight, but underneath his kindness and understanding is burning jealousy and hatred of his aunts and cousins, and a drive to rule Equestria with an iron hoof.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: To Twilight, whom he seduces to take over Equestria and have her as his Queen and mother of his heirs.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: He's mysogonistic, has no problem stringing women along for his own goals and admits he only courted Twilight so she could give him powerful heirs. He also regards Changeling as mindless beasts.
  • Shadow Archetype: Jewelius stands for everything Twilight could become if she permanently cut ties with her loved ones and chose selfishness and irrational hatred over forgiveness and responsibility.
  • The Sociopath: He's manipulative, self-serving, petty and believes himself more important than anyone else.

     Vivian

  • Anti-Villain: Vivian serves Jewelius’s every command out of belief that he will bring a great new age to Equestria. She is disgruntled by other ponies' reliance on the alicorn princesses and the Elements of Harmony for peace rather than their own skills and dedication, and believes that Jewelius, a regular unicorn prince, will usher in a new era of independence and self-sufficiency for Equestrians.
  • Battle Butler: To Jewelius. His most faithful supporter, she defends him against all trying to hurt him.

     Lieutenant Hildread Shackle

  • Anti-Villain: Even though she flunked out of the guard academy for being too brutal, and takes joy in seeing Shining Armor and the Mane Five suffer, Shackle truly believes that her sadistic and unusual punishments as guard are for the greater good of Equestria, and that by serving Jewelius, she is protecting her homeland. She ultimately realizes that Jewelius really isn't the best pony to rule when he decides to attack a town full of innocent ponies simply for having ties to the Mane Six, thus leading to her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Arch-Enemy: She sees Shining Armor as hers, as he kicked her out of the guard for being too unnecessarily brutal, and takes delight in seeing him suffer, confessing that always hating him and thought he was too soft to be Captain.
  • Artificial Limbs: She is a Pegasus who's right wing is completely metallic.
  • The Atoner: Despite her Heel–Face Turn, she still willingly accepts a jail sentence with the other supporters of Jewelius.
