Main Characters

     Jake Wilkinson 
The main character of the film, who goes through lengths to get home to his family before Christmas.


  • Butt-Monkey: After being left in the desert, he ends up as throughout most of the film getting home. He gets his beard and hat glued in the costume, is unable to send any phone calls besides his family, gets layer on and kicked out of a car, is unable to receive anyone to pick him up.
  • Crying Wolf: He manages to call his father and tells him that he's in the middle of nowhere with no money. However, with all the excuses he has made to avoid being home for Christmas, he isn't believed.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being an arrogant and selfish person, he does care about Allie as he went to find her after being sent out of the desert. He even cares about his family in which he went to check if his father as home to talk to him.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He ends up being left with no money or nothing to get home. He ends up getting his beard costume ripped of by Gloria for accidentally yammying in her sisters handbag. He also ends up being left behind by the bus.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Allie became hurt and calls out Jake for not caring about anyone including her.

     Allie Henderson 
Jake’s girlfriend


  • Everyone Has Standards: She makes it clear when forced to share a ride with Eddie that she won't tolerate any sexist, racist, or homophobic jokes from him in any capacity.
  • Nice Girl: She is a nice friendly person not to mention that she is always kind to others.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Allie calls Jake out of his arrogance and selfishness when the latter reveals his reason to her on why he wanted to meet his family for Christmas.

     Eddie Taffet 
Jake’s rival who wants to have Allie for himself.


  • Arch-Enemy: He is this towards Jake, due to their love/crush on Allie.
  • Bad Boss: He ruins his own gang's attempt to cheat on their midterms so that he can rally them against Jake and get them to help him strand Jake in the desert.
  • The Bully: He bullies Ian in which he constantly puts him inside his locker until someone such as Jake frees him from there in case it’s anything of a scam.
  • Hate Sink: In order toget Jake out of the way so he can have Allie for himself, He sabotages Jake's attempt to help Eddie's own friends cheat on their midterms while also for the second time snagging and imprisoning Jake's friend Ian in his own locker, this time over Christmas break. He then has his friends help him strand Jake in the desert with no means of getting out easily and convinces Allie to ride with him, while later preventing Jake from getting to them at a rest stop at one point too. He later seems willing to help Jake ride home after Allie leaves them both, only to abandon Jake again when Eddie shows jealousy and decides it's not in his character to do so.
  • Jerk Jock: He is this due to bullying Ian while trying to date Allie.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He insulted the two cops who were dressed as Christmas Trees and ends up getting arrested with him begging Jake for help, only for the latter to happily wave goodbye.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: He ends up being arrested after insulting two cops in Christmas costumes.

School

     Ian 
Jake’s best friend who gets locked into his own locker by Eddie and his friends.


  • Offscreen Inertia: He is last seen locked in the school lockers at night, just before winter break, meaning that there will be no one to find him until January when classes resume, by which point he will be long dead of starvation.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has a mass one once Eddie finds out about him helping Jake on cheating on the test for his buddies.
  • Uncertain Doom: Because Jake was unable to free him from his locker due to being stranded over Christmas, it is unknown if Ian ever got out of his locker or was stuck until he starved:

     Eddie’s Friends 
A group of friends who are Eddie’s buddies and Jake’s former friends.
  • Grey-and-Gray Morality: While they did help Eddie into stranding Jake in the desert, they did not know that it was their leader Eddie who had them fail on their tests since the former manipulated them.
  • Karma Houdini: They are never seen getting punished for stranding Jake in the desert and leaving Ian locked in his locker. That said, their own leader screwed them over and manipulated them, so you can argue they were also victims of circumstance.

The father of Jake and Tracey, and the husband of Carolyn.


     Carolyn Wilkinson 
The wife of James, and the stepmother of Jake and Tracey.


     Tracey Wilkinson 
The daughter of James, the stepdaughter of Carolyn, and the younger sister of Jake.

California

     Nolan 


  • The Ditz: He doesn’t have the slight to knowing things like almost taking time to get one of his toppings from is burger in a car.
  • Nice Guy: He helps out Jake in getting him home for Christmas.

     Max 
A police officer

     Marjorie 
A waitress and Max’s ex-wife who works at a restaurant.

     Conway 
The bus driver of the bus that Jake uses to get to a hotel.


  • Everyone Has Standards: He may be a grouch and while he’s fine with letting people out for any emergencies for their loved ones, he becomes disgusted once he realizes that Jake lied that Allie was a girl.
  • Jerk With A Heartof Gold: He is a stern bus driver but is very helpful on willing to let a passenger to give support for children.
  • Pet the Dog: He lets Allie take Jake’s place on the bus and even let her on it.
