* BadassArmy: They've been conquering galaxies and destroying planets for eons.

* FantasticRacism: Despite being EqualOpportunityEvil, the vast majority of the demons within the Pit looked down on non-demons or mortals, seeing them as a disease who only existed to be toyed with and slaughtered.

These slaves are often forced to build monuments in Zalgo's likeness, or even worse, become a member of his army. When they fail to do so, the slaves are punished terribly and sometimes executed, such in the case of the talking canines. The slaves of Zalgo's empire are forced to serve him until they die due to exhaustion, lack of food, or until Zalgo [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness gets tired of whipping them around and kills them]], only to be replaced with more slaves. Zalgo particularly enjoyed doing this to great and powerful people such as the rulers of planets he has conquered, seeing it as the ultimate insult to have them live the lives of revered and respectable figures, only to spend the rest of their lives as helpless slaves later.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: Each member of the army are their own varying degrees of evil. Ranging from Zalgo and X, who are constantly butting heads for the most depraved member, Zalgo's Minions being second, Flame-Head who is initially very much evil but aren't devoid of redeeming qualities, the Shadowlurker who isn't very evil at all and only commits evil out of fear of death.
* SparingTheAces: Zalgo's Empire is built on this trope. Most of Zalgo's strongest men were warriors from planets he's conquered and he spares the strongest by turning him into demons against their will. He frequently laments about killing the Proxies after seeing their battle power and offers Ms. P a position as his mistress after witnessing her strength.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: There is no one who truly likes Zalgo. At best, they merely tolerate him or act like they like him out of fear. This is more evident in "Something Zalgo This Way Comes", where it's established that the only reason his henchmen follows him is that they're either brainwashed or afraid of being tortured or killed. Shadowlurker only follows him out of fear, and X only uses Zalgo's resources as means to take over new universes. All the characters of the comic voice their open dislike of him — the Proxies, the Human World, several members of the Epsilon Cult, including Epsilon himself, Enderman, the Rake, and even '''Malitch'''. This is a mix of general principle and also the matter that he caused the near fall of the Monster race, as well as a distaste for exactly how he caused it. The only beings that seem to like Zalgo are the demonic monsters he plans to unleash on the multiverse.
* AbsoluteXenophobe: He hates lifeforms in all aspects which explains why he acts with rudeness towards basically everyone throughout the story.
* AbusiveDad: When Slenderman was a child, Zalgo put him through TrainingFromHell and forcefully makes him his "sparring partner" for his training, torturing the young Slenderman to the brink of death every day for the next 30 years. It gets even worse when it's revealed that he tortured Splendorman throughout his childhood, and murdered all of his other children when they failed to please him.
* AbusiveParents: It's implied his parents were neglectful of him.
* TheAce: Zalgo is undisputedly the coolest demon in the Pit, and definitely the strongest.
* AchillesHeel: Despite his nigh-omnipotent powers and immunity, Zalgo does have a few weaknesses.
** Zalgo is very weak to divine magic, as his demonic physiology can be burnt apart easily by the magic. Beings enhanced by Aton's magic also stand a great chance at harming him, as seen in [[spoiler: ''Legends of the Multiverse'']]
** Objects made of [[SilverHasMysticPowers silver]] can easily harm Zalgo.
** BEN's Black Stuff burns Zalgo's skins on contact and nullifies his HealingFactor. In "Legends of the Multiverse", [[spoiler: BEN melts Zalgo's face off by hurling a handful of Black Stuff towards him]].

The only characters in the comic who have a chance of beating him in a straight fight are Slenderman, Cronos and Aton, meaning that Zalgo is at worst the fourth most powerful characters in the comic.
* AxCrazy: Hands down one of the craziest in the comic. ''Hands down''. He's a sadistic, sociopathic and demonic tyrant who has gleefully destroyed millions of planets by massacring the inhabitants and enslaving the survivors, all ForTheEvulz. His EvilPlan involves merging the entire multiverse just to turn it into a literal hellhole, and he has murdered millenniums' worth of his own children that failed to live up to his expectations. He's a psycho through and through, and he is a MoodSwinger who can switch between the "cold and calculating" type of insane and the "overtly insane and LaughingMad" variety.

** When Cronos attacks him during the battle of the Pit, Stukka makes a move to intervene, but Shadowlurker stops him, telling the brute to "let Lord Zalgo have his fun." [[spoiler: Zalgo proceeds to go to town on Cronos]].
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: He actually seems confused by the concept of human morality.
** This might be subverted with one simple fact: Zalgo is a sadist. Zalgo is shown at various times to fully comprehend human morality to the fullest and knows exactly how to manipulate them, and Zalgo knows full and well he's absolutely wicked and cruel (in fact, he's quite proud of it). He demonstrates this in front of Shadowlurker, but the sticking point is that Slenderman after Zalgo reveals what he plans to do to the multiverse to endear himself to Slenderman, calls him insane. Zalgo's reaction? “Being sane is boring!” Coupled with the fact Zalgo clearly gets a kick out of delivering pain into living beings and you can solidly dismiss Zalgo's actions completely under BlueAndOrangeMorality, because he clearly understands humans and he knows understands the beings he's tormenting are in agony but refuses to relent because their suffering amuses him. Honestly, Zalgo is less an EldritchAbomination and more {{Satan}}; he's AxCrazy and very openly sadistic and the true nature of Zalgo's species/being is too vague to really call these natural parts of his morality. His inability to understand why Lara enjoys helping people can get along is way more along the lines of EvilCannotComprehendGood, and ultimately, Zalgo's little more than a complete and utter psychopath who openly acknowledges and takes pride in this fact.
* BodyHorror: A horned, large, black and red demon with smiling mouths covering his entire body.
* BreakoutVillain: In season 1, he was originally a one-shot villain, but with so many cameo appearances and having some connections to Slenderman and the ''Pastamonsters'' lore, he became the main villain of the entire series.

** His second fight with Cronos however... Not so much.

** Most fights between him and Slenderman consist largely of Slenderman opening a can on Zalgo, though he'll usually put up some showy tricks for Slendy to evade and maybe land a good hit or two to remind the audience barely any other entity can oppose him.
** During the Battle of the Pit, the combined might of Aton's Elite manage to land a number of good hits on him during their fight, and even manage to immobilize him and wipe out a large portion of him army Nevertheless, he comes out of that whole battle with nothing more than a small scratch that took a full-on assault from Cronos to get, meaning it was unlikely they were ever going to win.
* DarkIsEvil: He has a black body. Fitting for the living embodiment of the Dark World's evil.
* DarkMessiah: Zalgo has legions of fanatic followers across the multiverse who worship him as a god. Case in point, the prisoners in Aton's Galactic Prison are implied to pray to him to release them from their prison so they can continue terrorizing the universe.
* DeadGuyOnDisplay: Zalgo keeps the corpses of his henchmen crucified to the walls of his throne room in order to strike fear into visitors.
* DeadpanSnarker: Funny enough, he possesses a dry wit of some sort, mocking his minions and enemies alike.
* DealWithTheDevil: He has made deals with billions of people, and all of them have ended in the dealer suffering a horrible fate. For example, Alice Liddell made a deal with Zalgo - in return for a way out of Wonderland and returning home to her family, she would have the sacrifice one of her family members. When she refused to give up her father's soul (which, of course, he knew would happen), Zalgo cursed her with immortality and forced her to live in a twisted version of Wonderland (now dubbed Underland) for the rest of her life.

* EvilerThanThou: Whenever he shows up, there's no question as to who the real BigBad is. Zalgo is this to everyone, including Jeff, Malitch, and even Mancala (who he DemotedToDragon). He even outshines his ancestors, who started the war by waging it in a far more vicious fashion and lacking any of their redeeming qualities.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood:
** One of the reasons he hates Lara, aside from her being human, is because she cares about others.
** Zalgo also can't understand self-sacrifice, especially for a family member.
* EvilCounterpart:
** Acts as one to Aton, full stop. Both are the series' GreaterScopeVillain and GreaterScopeParagon, respectively. Similarly, both rule over a dimension: while Aton rules over the Overworld, a substitute for Heaven, Zalgo rules over the hellish Pit, a clear surrogate to Hell. Both are fighting for a cause: Zalgo thrives on spreading despair and terror; Aton inspires hope and fights for a better world without Zalgo. Both have their fatal flaws: Aton is an ignorant {{manchild}} and Zalgo is StupidEvil, to the point that it makes him predictable and even is a weakness for him.
** His parenting style contrasts greatly with President Bush. Both of them had two children, one of whom they treated much better over the other one. However, while Bush grew to love all of his children, Zalgo never learned to love and continued depriving all of children of love and affection.
* EvilFeelsGood: His defining characteristic. He loves all the atrocities and depraved things that aliens and humans alike are capable of. Zalgo is willing to overlook attacks against him and his army so long as they're sufficiently "evil". When Tails Doll is betrayed and captured, Zalgo just ordered him imprisoned rather than killed, out of respect for the city destroying plot that had just been foiled.
* EvilGloating: Pretty much all of his dialogue is just glorifying himself. Most notably in "To Proxy Mountain", [[spoiler: where Zalgo spends the entire special bragging about his success and how deeply he has corrupted Eyeless Jack and his impending victory over the universe. As it turns out, Zalgo was counting his chickens before they hatched.]]

* EvilIsEasy: For Zalgo, committing atrocities is as easy as breathing, with no regard for those hurt by them.
* EvilIsHammy: Regardless of his immoral acts, he's fairly funny and hammy as hell.
* EvilIsNotAToy: He makes it clear that even though he's giving X half of his army, if he screws up, he's dead.
* EvilIsPetty: He's a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] [[AxCrazy lunatic]] that desires to see the omniverse burn, but even with his grandiose ambitions that don't mean he won't try to get under your skin. At which point he even planned on using the prospect of rape and killing other's loved ones as a JackBauerInterrogationTechnique just because.
** According to Slenderman, Zalgo once created a frost to destroy Slenderman's garden.
* EvilLaugh: A very genuine and demonic one.
* EvilMentor: He was this for Slenderman. Zalgo raised Slenderman to be a destructive and demonic overlord like he, in case Zalgo were to die or be killed.
* EvilIsNotPacifist: Despises the very concept of peace.
* EvilOldFolks: He is older than Slenderman.
* EvilOverlord: The Lord of the Pit as well as over a thousand other universes.
* EvilPlan: To merge with his "other half", later revealed to be [[spoiler: Slenderman]], and then destroy the multiverse and afterward recreate it into a chaotic wasteland with no rules where he rules as a god. [[spoiler: He succeeds in this in "Legends of the Multiverse Part 4".]]
* TheEvilPrince: He killed his mother and father to ascend to the throne.
* EvilTowerOfOminousness: Zalgo's humble abode in the Pit (complete with dungeons and an army of demonic minions).

His eye beams can also be used for non-destructive means, like creating clothes, homes, and people/demons out of thin air.
* FacialHorror: [[spoiler: In the "Legends of the Multiverse" finale, BEN throws a handful of Black Stuff at Zalgo's face, causing Zalgo's face to melt off, revealing bone and sinew underneath. Yeesh.]]

To have a brutal industrialized hellscape is one thing, but to populate it with his army, criminals and many other overlords who assist Zalgo in creating "a world where the innocent and the weak are always preyed upon," in Lara's description, is entirely different. The true evil of Zalgo is that he utterly enjoys dehumanizing the universe, reduced the inhabitants of many planets to a Darwinian struggle in which strength and cunning untethered from morality prosper. It is a world not merely of "catastrophe, devastation, and carnage," as Slenderman says, though it is certainly that. More devastating, though, is that it is a world where vices have become virtues, where children have become slaves to evil and manipulation, where restraint and mercy lead only to death and ruin, where the few pockets of innocence and joy are singled out for ruination, where underlings do not merely carry out evil orders but torture for pleasure (calling it "fun"). Hence, when somewhat injured by Slenderman's blows, and a planet exploding, Zalgo recovered and heals almost instantly, and instantly regrows his hand after his arm is chopped off by Hira. Sometimes when injured, Zalgo's healing wounds are instantly enveloped in an orange superheated glow, protecting him from any outside attacks.
* TheHedonist: Zalgo lives for self-pleasure. Understandable, considering he's the embodiment of chaos.

It doesn't work, and Shadowlurker is able to deal the killing blow.]]

In addition, X was constantly drooling and gawping at Isaac, making him feel a little uneasy.

However, Jeff is loud, chipper and bombastic while X is more prone to excited but subdued rambling and rarely speaks above a whisper unless in combat. Jeff would sometimes water down his cruelty with a pronounced sense of humor while X downplays that for more straightforward scares and doubles down on sheer sadism. * AmbiguousDisorder: It is heavily implied Zalgo suffered from textbook traits of sociopathy, but it's never directly stated what precisely is wrong with him. He sees absolutely no value in forming healthy relationships with others unless there is some benefit in it for him, he is completely incapable of feeling love in any capacity, he enjoys working alone and refuses to confide in any of his "friends", he is disturbingly good at understanding how to manipulate people into doing what he wants, and is willing to kill anyone, from babies to his own remaining family, without any hint of remorse.

* UltimateEvil: He is the source of all evil in the Under Realm.

* UltimateEvil: It has no form.

* AbusiveDad: UpToEleven. When Slenderman was a child, Zalgo put him through TrainingFromHell and forcefully makes him his "sparring partner" for his training, torturing the young Slenderman to the brink of death every day for the next 30 years. It gets even worse when it's revealed that he tortured Splendorman throughout his childhood, and murdered all of his other children when they failed to please him.

* BigBad: In a series where nearly everyone cane be classified as a villain in some way, Zalgo manages to stand out. He's easily the most powerful, dangerous and {{overarching villain}} in the series, after all.

* TheSociopath: [[InTheBlood At least we know where Slenderman gets it from.]] Zalgo does what he does because the suffering of others amuses him. He also portrays real-life symptoms of sociopathy, such as a vain and arrogant personality and utter LackOfEmpathy.

* BadBoss: Abuses and kills his henchmen at the drop of a hat; reasons varying from "[[BlofeldPloy needing an example]], [[GoLookAtTheDistraction avoiding an awkward conversation]], and "[[ItAmusedMe because I wanted to]]".

* HateSink: Zalgo seems to have been made with the intention of being as hated and despicable as possible. He's a sadistic, tyrannical dictator who loves to inflict pain and suffering on others ([[WouldHurtAChild children included]]), and while most villains usually have some form of a redemption arc or are at least LaughablyEvil, he continuously refuses to be redeemed [[UngratefulBastard even when given mercy]]. He lacks any kind of {{Evil Virtues}}, being lazy, spoiled, a dirty fighter, not particularly smart, and wanting only his own gratification. And while most irredeemable main villains are MadeOfEvil, he doesn't even have the excuse of being born evil (his species is not exclusively demonic and his henchmen have a moral agency). He's this in-universe as well, as practically everyone who knows about him despises him, [[EvenEvilHasStandards even other scumbags like Enderman]]. Arguably his most heinous action is in the "Legends of the Multiverse" five-parter, where he [[spoiler: murders the Unwanted House Guest and his girlfriend, enslaves the entire multiverse, and tries to murder two children. It's an incredibly satisfying moment when Shadowlurker finally kills him]].
** He even qualifies as this with his role in the Great Monster War being treated In-Universe as crossing the MoralEventHorizon. Aton calls him the vilest creature he's ever met, Malitch outright compares him to cancer, Slenderman calls him the "darkest soul in the Under Realm", Enderman calls him a madman, and those who don't hate him for causing the Great Monster War still hate him on general principle. Even his lone redeeming quality — being [[LaughablyEvil kinda funny]] — is often still used to call attention to what a monster he is.
