- This hits incredible levels of FridgeLogic when you consider that her next episode "Hearth's Warming Eve" was extremely well received by a majority of the fanbase, and her episode "Wonderbolts Academy" was considered one of the high points of Season 3.
- It got even more ridiculous with Season 4's "Bats!" Initial fan reaction to the episode was positive, but once word began circulating that [=Meghan McCarthy's writing credit was in error and it was actually Williams who wrote the episode, suddenly some fans didn't like it so much (though plenty of people still liked the episode, and there were some people who didn't like the episode even before this was revealed).=]
- Storyboard artist/supervisor and director Jim Miller got hit with this bad from season 5 onward. He has been {{Misblamed}} for every controversial creative decision since then, to the point where when season 9 came around, people were accusing him of trying to deliberately ruin the show because he secretly hates bronies. Following the Season 9 finale leak, Jim received so many angry messages and death threats that he was forced to lock down his Twitter.

In light of the Season 9 finale, should we put up They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character example list or page?
Hide / Show RepliesHow many examples are there?
I think 20 is the recommended amount to warrant it's own page. I'd say 15 minimum.
A rough estimate should be around:
The Princesses and Princes
Zecora and the Zebras
The one-shot races and their respective locations
The movie cast
The Pillars
The allied races (Dragons, Griffins, Changelings, Yaks and Hippogriff/Seaponies) felt very underutilized in the grand scheme of things
The EEA
Chrysalis and Cozy Glow’s backstories
And many other characters I lost track.
How many examples would that make?
Edited by ShivaderAren’t Fluttershy and Discord married? He made her lunch and she is clearly living with him. She and her animals came out of his dimension.
Hide / Show Replies- Parvum Opus: Among two-parters, "A Canterlot Wedding" for introducing two major characters without any explanation: Twilight's brother Shining Armor and Princess Cadance. The latter's introduction as an alicorn princess still has the fan base split because it invoked Uniqueness Decay on Celestia and Luna being the only two in the series. Then there's Twilight being shunned by her friends and Shining Armor when she accuses Cadance of being evil (even though she turns out to be right all along). Also, the episode has a girly wedding plot.
Not true. According to imdb http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1751105/eprate?ref_=tt_eps_rhs_sm the Wedding episodes are among the highest rated episodes. Even among two-parters, "Princess Twilight Sparkle", "the Crystal Empire" and "Friendschip is Magic" have lowest rating.
Does Discord avoid being a Complete Monster just because he's funny? I can't really say being funny saves a character from being a CM, as Kefka Palazzo, The Joker with his pencil trick, and Eric Cartman attest to. It's pretty much agreed he's not a CM, but there has to be a better reason than being funny.
Also, that TRS thread that people link to isn't very clear on why he doesn't meet qualifications for our definition of CM.
Edited by WaxingName Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. Hide / Show RepliesMy guess is that it's because there's an in-show example of someone thinking he's funny: Pinkie laughing at him near the beginning of Return of Harmony Part 1. It's a narrow margin, but he's disqualified.
I like trains.Does Tirek from the most recent episode qualify as a Complete Monster?
Edited by 1.165.207.186 Hide / Show RepliesHe did in G1, so he probably does here too.
The Protomen enhanced my life.It seems current consensus on this wiki is that while stand out dark, he didn't leave a lasting enough impact on the shows idealism to qualify. The G1 version had no residence to act against.
Were he to get more exposure and more heinous deeds for his rap sheet in addition to his lack of redemptive features and his selfish, malicious goals, G4 Tirek probably would qualify - he's the only likely candidate in the series as it is. But going by just his two episodes, he was deemed to not quite reach that level. (I personally disagree with the verdict though, and the comic detailing some of his backstory actually only adds to that.)
My entry for Lightning Dust crossing the Moral Event Horizon was zapped on the basis that she didn't actively try to kill Rainbow Dash's friends. In said scene, Lightning pressures Rainbow Dash into creating a tornado for a team exercise but it turns out the former can't bring it under control when it gets too large. The tornado sucks up the rest of the Mane Six and Rainbow Dash leads the rest of the academy into saving them. Completely absent is Lightning Dust who cheers for Rainbow Dash after all of her friends were saved. Rainbow Dash chides her for her recklessness but not once does she show any remorse for her dangerous behavior. Her actions may have not been intentional but Lightning Dust showed complete apathy to putting five ponies in danger and didn't even try to rescue them.
With that said, did Lightning Dust cross the MEH or is the entry invalid?
Hide / Show RepliesThe reformation of Discord (who deedswere deemed MEH worthy until shown otherwise) has set such a precedence for what's forgivable in the series that active maliciousness is pretty much required to qualify to be MEH worthy.
Actually, the reformation of Luna, in the first two part, considering the similarity of their sins( Nightmare Moon tried corrupt Rainbow Dash, Discord made the same thing with the entire Mane 6. Discord mind controlled the Mane 6, Nightmare Moon was the sting in a chimera's paw. Discord created the Night Without End and Discord the World Of Chaos.) Come on, outside the motivations, Discord's sins were really similar to Twilight's actions, in the following episode.
I'm surprised that Princess Celestia isn't listed in The Scrappy example. I mean, look at the evidence. She is the most hated character in the fandom, more hated than Diamond Tiara. I mean, there are negative portrayls of her (Molestia and Trollestia), and everyone portrays her as a Tyrant, villain, etc. Chances are, you will hardly see any portrayls of her that show her to be kind.
Hide / Show Replies.....Can't tell if serious or not.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Uh, no. Even if she's portrayed as a tyrant, Celestia still ranks high on polls, and she's always coming in second place for best princess, so no, she's not a scrappy.
She's more of a Base Breaker. She has her detractors but she isn't a scrappy.
Moderator speaking: Please stop adding and deleting examples with out posting an edit reason. There seems to be an edit war brewing over posts involving Pinkie Pie. Move contested examples to the discussion page and talk it out there.
Hide / Show RepliesShould Twilight Sparkle be added to Memetic Sex God, because apparantly, guys wish to "study" with her?
Under Magnum Opus, I see that someone changed Cutie Mark Chronicles to Party of One, and changed Hurricane Fluttershy to Luna Eclipsed.
Do you think that maybe we could have each season have multiple opuses? I mean, we're doing that with Parvum Opus. And, from what I've seen, Hurricane Fluttershy is one of the most well-received episodes of Season 2.
Hide / Show RepliesParvum Opus should probably be limited to at most one per season, especially since it notes many examples are decisive as opposed to widely hated. Magnum Opus could probably stand some sub-categorization as well, less it lose relevance.
Guys, I really think Unpleasable Fanbase should be entered. I mean we can't chalk everything up to a "vocal minority" when it's easy to tell that it's more than just a few people screwing everyone over.
Find the Light in the Dark Hide / Show RepliesUnpleasable Fanbase is listed in Flame Bait, in other words, this can not be listed or potholed.
Well I guess it's true what they say: the Truth hurts. Oh well, it's not like a Flame War among bronies would be a very pretty sight.
Find the Light in the DarkI removed the Fan Disillusionment entry that keeps on being re-added after being removed. The trope itself is under No Real Life Examples Please and it contained a real life example on the YMMV page.
Hide / Show RepliesI think that's incorrect. Fan Disillusionment may have been tagged as No Real Life Examples Please, but I think that only applies to entries in the Fan Disillusionment page itself. I believe it doesn't mean we can't still use it in YMMV pages especially where fandom reaction is concerned. Besides, not having it implies that no one has ever decried the show Ruined Forever, which is false (the show jumped the shark for me since Season 2 by having more villains and losing the E/I mark). Not allowing Fandom Disillusionment imo is biased.
Also, I thought the YMMV page was not bound by rules that normally binds to other pages, as long as it doesn't start a flamewar?
Edited by RAMChYLDWell, since there's no reply to my message, I assume that cooler heads have prevailed. Re-adding Fan Disillusionment.
EDIT: Nevermind. I take back my decision. you do what you want, I'm sick of all this pandering as if there is no one who hates this show and/or the direction it's going.
Good day.
Edited by RAMChYLDYou could save yourself a lot of trouble if you stopped using YMMV as a personal soapbox. Honestly, I've seen a lot of your edits and all they're showing is that you throw a hissy fit and act like a spoiled child anytime time someone seems to disagree with you.
Frankly, that's highly annoying.
Do you guys think the Memetic Sex God/Goddess should be a subpage, because there are a ton of examples?
Hide / Show RepliesNo because Bronies are already seen as a bunch of creeps already. Having such a page would mean more material for haters.
Just for fun, could we make the Periphery Demographic entry talk about the kids who watch this show, as if the show was intended for adults? It'd be funny.
Although, it would be inaccurate, which is why I'm asking first.
Hide / Show RepliesI think it would be funny, but unfortunately, you're right, it would be inaccurate, and accuracy takes priority over jokes. Still, it was a neat idea.
I find that the list for The Scrappy is a bit dubious. For example, listing a character who was... in one scene and was a jerk.
That isn't what the trope means. The trope means that this is a character that is widely, or near-universally, regarded by the fandom as an irritating waste of space, not "I don't like this character." I find that many of the examples are dubious at best.
Fanfiction I hate.""Owl's Well That Ends Well" and "Lesson Zero" both have "if you blow off your friend's concerns/feelings/freakouts, it will cause more trouble", which apparently means Aesop Amnesia as Twilight learned it in the first and then freaked out in the second."
But Twilight was the only one to learn that lesson. Wouldn't it make sense that everyone else might have the problem when the only one to learn the lesson is the one in trouble with it?
Permission to delete?
Chrysalis&order=9&offset=72#/d4x9qxa There is a comment that says "She can feed on my love any day." Does that mean Queen Chrysalis will be added to the Memetic Sex God entry? Or she won't get one yet?
Edited by Gallade08...Is it me, or is the Accidental Aesop section nothing but bile and complaining?
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes. Hide / Show RepliesIt's more like Warp That Aesop to me.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.Indeed. As I posted earlier on this page, many of the Aesop interpretation seem like they're intentionally out there and ludicrous.
Would Angel, Fluttershy's pet bunny, be considered a Base Breaker. After what he did to her in the episode "Putting you Hoof Down" he has gotten some haters.
Hide / Show RepliesSeeing as how he was supposed to be a dick, and has always been a dick, I don't think he can count.
I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again. Why exactly is there a problem with the rumor that Shining Armor is Twilght Sparkle's brother? Personally, I think that's pretty cool, plus it gives the mane six more of a reason to go to the royal wedding. Plus, it's only a rumor at this point: it might not even be true. Then again, this IS Your Mileage May Vary.
Edited by Jarkes BOOM. Ah, frig, the fourth wall was broken AGAIN.The whole alternative interpretation section bothers me. There are a number of examples that are clearly exaggerated for comedic effect and factually questionable, but I'm not sure they can be removed because, hey, Your Mileage May Vary.
Would anyone consider Rainbow Dash a base breaker?
Hide / Show RepliesRegarding Base Breaker. Would Discord be considered a Base Breaker? Keep in mind this was from his actions alone and not speaking on any interpretation of his character.
Hide / Show RepliesNah, any "hate" for him falls under Love to Hate. He's universally loved in the fandom. I'll delete that part.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Regarding the comment about Merriweather Williams being the most divisive writer on the show, despite writing only two episodes. Given its placement, I can infer that "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" is one of them, but what's the other one?
BOOM. Ah, frig, the fourth wall was broken AGAIN. Hide / Show RepliesHearth's Warming Eve is divisive? ...Why?
BOOM. Ah, frig, the fourth wall was broken AGAIN.Does anybody think this page should be split or placed into menus - its fairly large. Oh how about moving episode-specific ones, to the YMMV on the episode recaps.
Hide / Show RepliesI'm currently in the process of folderizing the entire page into storyline, character, fandom, shipping, and other sections. It'll be up soon.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Well, it's up. My schedule won't allow for complete sorting, so please help sort the rest.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Is Pipsqueak really a Base Breaker? The worst reaction I've seen him receive is mild indifference. I don't think he has nearly enough haters to be considered a Base Breaker, or even The Scrappy.
Reaction Image Repository Hide / Show RepliesNo response from those editors. So maybe delete those edits with and tell them to discus this mather here or on forum.
Because he know I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe.Should Trixie/Twilight (aka Twixie) be added to One True Pair? That pairing is insanely popular compared to any other Trixie or Twilight pairing on Equestria Daily, tho it is not as dominating as Lyra/Bon-Bon. Can there be two One True Pairs?
Edited by NebuloganB Hide / Show RepliesI don't think so. There's zero canon evidence for it (at least Lyra and Bon Bon have been shown together in the background), and it's not really ubiquitous enough in the fandom to count. It's popular, but not to the point of Lyra/Bon Bon, where there's almost no material shipping them with other characters. Trixie and Twilight are both Launcher of a Thousand Ships.
Reaction Image RepositoryDoes Discord really count as a Complete Monster? He's the most evil villain the show has yet had, but that's more because the other villains are Anti Villains than because Discord's that bad, and there's plenty of middle ground between Anti-Villain and Complete Monster.
While he may be remorseless and have no clear excuse, what I have doubt about is the idea that trying to make the Ponyville's weather crazy for his amusement or deceptively fostering distrust among a social circle of friends is "heinous," let alone that it's played seriously enough for Complete Monster status anyway.
Also, stuff like "crosses the Moral Event Horizon several times" leaves room for doubt about on whether or not whoever added it knows what they're talking about.
Edited by HiddenFacedMatt "The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon Stewart Hide / Show RepliesNo he doesn't. Check the last few pages of the Complete Monster thread in the Special Efforts thread for the argument.
I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.I'll remove him then.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartCould we add Moral Event Horizon for Discord's Mind Rape of the mane cast? I'd say taking great pleasure out of manipulating and brainwashing group in a very frightening fashion qualifies.
Hide / Show RepliesMoral Event Horizon is a pretty strong phrase; it implies that the level of evil is confirming that the character will never be a good guy, and if he ever does become one (as is common with villains in the show, albeit only for milder villains) the entry will be proven wrong.
If Discord does at all cross the moral event horizon, it's in brainwashing Fluttershy when he couldn't persuade her through argument. That's the only Mind Rape that stands out as morally worse than the rest.
In any case, it's certainly more fitting than Gilda's, which is much too mild to count as a moral event horizon. The line she crosses is between "excusable" and "inexcusable," not between "redeemable" and "irredeemable." The entry for Gilda should be removed; it seems to be based on a major misinterpretation either of Moral Event Horizon or of Gilda herself.
Edited by HiddenFacedMatt "The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartIs the trope Fan Verse applicable to this article? There seems to be a lot of consistency between several fanons and fan works.
Hide / Show RepliesThe Fan Verse description says shared continuity, i.e. the same universe. While certain elements of continuity are indeed oftenly shared, stories usually only share some parts. To be in the same universe it must share all continuity excluding mistakes and retcons, with that which isn't explicitly covered still possible to be the same. The community has a set of common assumptions, but you'd be hard-pressed to find several fanfics that can all exist in the same verse and have things linkning them to each other.
I wanted to link Adult!Luna's Fan Nickname, "Moonlight Dream" with the archive of this on Ponibooru.
http://www.ponibooru.org/post/list/moonlight_dream/1
If someone could put that in, that would be appreciated.
The second sentence on the Broken Aesop entry sounds really wonky. I'd fix it myself, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it's trying to say.
I'm sorry, but this page is a little too big for me. Is there any mention of the MASSIVE hatedom this show has?
Edited by SquigPie Hide / Show RepliesI added hatedom, somone deleted it - which is fine; everything with a fandom has a hatedom. No need to point it out. My mistake.
Fan Haters and hatedumb, however, are still on the page. Should be enough.
Edited by GrobiJesus, that example is probably the least Neutral hting I've ever seen on this wiki.
So you tried to break the record?
Wait, since when is this wiki concerned with neutrality?
Also, why did you feel the need to ask this when you could easily have looked through the entry with Ctrl+F?
This Wiki is pretty big on neutrality, which is why some of the more controversial topics are locked. The fact that this page outright insults people who dislike the fandom (admit it. Some of the fans of this show are REALLY rabid). Is unacceptable, I've made the example for Fan Haters more neutral. Please. Don't edit it back.
This is the Your Mileage May Vary page. These exist specifically to represent subjective tropes, so I'm not sure why you're making a fuss over the page featuring subjectivity.
Any way you look at it, claiming the previous example "insulted" anyone is hysterical hyperbole. It simply remarks on the unassailable fact that a lot of people DO hate on My Little Pony and its fans because it's My Little Pony. Do you deny this? And do you deny that this attitude is fundamentally foolish, and therefore Hate Dumb?
If you feel an example doesn't represent all viewpoints, then you augment and improve it instead of scrapping it and replacing it with something that literally says nothing. ("The less is said, the better" is just about completely pointless.)
at Squig Pie: Well, now it's at least somewhat neutral, so I'm fine with your edit. But this doesn't change the fact that I'm right; without the Periphery Fandom, there wouldn't be that many Haters, either.
Perhaps I indulged in Complaining About People Not Liking the Show. I'm not sure about that; I'm not that good at "self-evaluation" (or whatever the correct english term would be here). (Though I'm pretty sure I did indulge in "Complaining about people complaining about shows they don't watch. Sorry 'bout that...)
However, what did you expect? Did You Actually Believe...? that we — the FANS — would/could be neutral in this situation? We're getting flamed all over the 'net just for being fans, and then you mock us for being biased.
Besides, This Is A Wiki. We Could Have Avoided All This if you had just edited the page yourself. :P
...*SIGH*. Sorry. Just needed to vent a bit. Nothing Personal, and this is just the discussion-page.
at Born In 1142: These are subjectives, yeah. That doesn't mean we have to be (passive) aggressive if anybody dares to mention the Hatedom. That leads to Flame Warring, and that leads to a page-lock. And "The less is said, the better" is an awesome sentence; we don't need to be specific here. It practically says "This exists. That's all you need to know.". Perfect.
And now someone else wants to start an Edit War. Should we ask a mod to lock this page?
Should periphery Demographic be added to the main index? The only reason I'd be against it is because the periphery fanbase is arguable larger than the target fanbase.....
Hide / Show RepliesHas Prince Blueblood gotten the Draco in Leather Pants treatment yet? He seems to be a likely target.
Hide / Show RepliesShould I list him under Draco in Leather Pants? How should I word it?
I vote no. One single WMG that doesn't even focus on him doesn't count as leather pants treatment, especially since the fandom at large dislikes him.
The upcoming movie for G5 has the ponies living in the kind of world Cozy Glow would've created at the end of Season 8, a world without magic. Should that be marked in Hilarious in Hindsight or Harsher in Hindsight?
