Could someone start adding tropes to the Little Big Planet 2 folder that I created that's on the Main Let's Plays page? That Let's Play is already on the 7th part and I haven't seen anything yet. I'm really not good at thinking of tropes. I would rather leave it to the experts that have a grasp on that kind of stuff.
Hide / Show RepliesSiree, adding examples is not generally something that can be asked for. Sometimes, a page just doesn't get visited by fans that frequently. Also, it's been only 3 days.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWould it be worth it to add anything from the Runaway Guys stream that Jon hosted ( http://www.twitch.tv/protonjon/b/529783669 )? It wasn't technically part of their LPs, but it turned out to be quite a Fountain of Memes, especially Chugga X Daisy stuff, which I expect will become legendary in TRG lore.
Edited by 10.2.4.66Should "Wheel of Fortune" be listed a side collab or simply part of The Runaway Gaiden? They've used it as filler twice now, and it seems like it may happen again between projects in the future, but on the other hand it doesn't have its own playlist.
Hide / Show RepliesAre playlists a prerequisite? Because Mario Party 3's Duel Mode doesn't have its own list either; it's just part of the regular MP3 LP.
With how long Wheel of Fortune has gone so far, I'm thinking somebody should move it to Side Collabs.
Edited by 107.217.188.226Any way we can add Dokapon Kingdom's awesome moemnts to the Awesome page? I kinda feel NCS taking out the monster at the town and then taking out Chugga deserves a mention at least, as well as Chuggaa getting lucky and managing to take out the monster guarding the town (while he was at critical HP, might I add) by dealing exactly enough damage to kill the monster?
Why does my entry for Four Man Band keep getting erased? There are several examples of it on this page.
Hide / Show RepliesBecause it's not the trope; a Five-Man Band must have all the archetypes on the page description. Smaller groups can be listed under The Team or various more specific tropes, provided they fit. The role of each person should also be explained in the example.
This reasoning is explained in the edit history.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. But several Four Man Bands are on this very page, with the same style I put it in. In fact, the other examples don't even have all 5 tropes included, while mine does, though it keeps getting removed.
Edited by 24.176.87.80I can't find any other Four man Bands on this page — could you specify where they are?
Anyway, though, a Five Man Band needs five people — it can't be four people with one of them serving for two tropes.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.- sigh* Nevermind. They were erased as well by the time I started this discussion. There used to be one for New Super Mario Bros U, and Little Big Planet, but they're now erased.
From the description:
LP #2 was New Super Mario Bros. Wii, mostly recorded at PAX East 2011. A fourth player, JoshJepson, joined them for these recordings.
LP #3 was Super Smash Bros. Brawl's "Subspace Emissary", recorded at E3 2011 and at Jon's home in Canada, with a return to three players. After this was finished, they also held a Brawl tournament with 7 other guest players, one of whom was JoshJepson. The tournament was recorded after New Super Mario Bros. Wii's latter recording. The champion was ProtonJon.
LP #4 was Mario Party 2. The majority of this LP was recorded at Jon's house, and the rest was recorded at a hotel during Pax East 2012. They also went through the Mini-Game Coaster.
A Mario Power Tennis tournament came next, before LP #5. It had 6 guest players—three returning from the Brawl tournament and three newcomers. The champion of this tournament was Chugga.
LP #5 was Kirby's Return to Dream Land, with just the three of them (they had planned to have a guest player—implied to be JoshJepson—who couldn't make it due to a scheduling problem). Notably, this is their first LP of a game that does not feature Mario. It was recorded between two Paxes.
LP #6 was LittleBigPlanet, which, being a Playstation 3 exclusive title, is the first game they LP'd on a console other than Nintendo. Lucahjin was the guest player for this LP. The recording started at Pax Prime 2012, and was continued at Chugga's house.
LP #7 was Wii Party, which was started as filler before Little Big Planet. It was confirmed in the Little Big Planet finale that Wii Party would be continued as an actual Let's Play.
After this, they held a Super Smash Bros. 64 tournament, with 16 competitors. The champion of this tournament was Tyler from Wii Rike To Pray.
LP #8 was New Super Mario Bros. U, with JoshJepson returning as a guest player.
They then held a Mario Kart: Double Dash!! tournament, with 22 players on 11 teams. The winner of this tournament was KoopaKungFu.
In addition to the one-shot filler LP's, they also have some side collab projects that they update between projects and act as filler. Current projects in this vein include Fortune Street.
I feel like all of this from the description is a bit redundant, since we have an itemized list of their projects right below there. Can we just trim the fat here in order to keep the page slightly more manageable? (I'm fine with at least leaving the info on their first LP, though, since it is an important thing to mention.)
Edited by 216.99.32.42 Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. Hide / Show RepliesBy all means, go for it. I was about to suggest the same thing.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"We're getting a lot of folders from the guys' projects and let's plays. I'm starting to think we should begin making separate pages, not just folders; maybe a page for their regular let's plays and a page for their extra stuff (side collabs, filler, tournaments, Thrown Controllers). Anyone else agree?
Alright, this kinda bugs me. In the latest episode of Little Big Planet (10 as of this writing), the Guys all speak properly, with posh accents, and never once yelling. Now that alone is weird enough, but the reason is even weirder. They say it's because they checked the comments on one of the early episodes and that fans were saying they were being more rude/racist/etcetera etcetera. Why would the Guys let their FANS of all people dictate the way they make a video? We know they read these pages and they know from experience that a good chunk of their fans are idiots! It's never stopped them before, so why now?
Hide / Show RepliesThey weren't letting the fans dictate the way they make a video. That particular video was their way of showing how listening to the trolls and haters would pretty much ruin what makes their videos funny. They were basically telling the trolls "okay, here's what happens when we listen to you guys, so shut up". If they were actually listening to the trolls, then episode 11 would have been the same way.
Can we please clean up the Quote page? No work ever warrants that many quotes. If we want to catalogue all of the funny/awesome/heartwarming moments, then that's what the funny/awesome/heartwarming pages are for.
I doubt any other work has this many quotes. Runaway Guys is only about a year old, imagine how many more quotes it would get in another year.
If we must have a lot of quotes, can we at least restrict it to fewer than five per LP?
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!" Hide / Show RepliesI kept checking back on that page now and then, it seemed like no new examples had been added for a while after "Ike is dead!" But yeah, if it's to the point where we now need folders for the quotes, I think it's time to cut it down to the most memorable ones (i.e. the first "don't eat the mushroom" reference, etc.)
Well the quotes page is fixed, but now I've noticed 99% of every example of funny moments under the Mario Party 2 tab on the Funny Moments page has a quote now. I even know of a time I added an example, then someone later added a quote.
I'm thinking I'm gonna renovate some there, too. There's no reason for that many quotes. Moments are fine, but it kind of takes the fun out of it when they're repeated back all the time on the page.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"Since Mario Party 2 is getting its own folder separate from the original, shouldn't the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Tourney get its own folder? Or is the amount of tropes small enough that it can be packed with the Subspace Emissary? My reasoning is that Subspace is a completely different setup than the Tourney, and I personally don't want to go through the trouble filtering through the already large folder that is the SSBB Subspace section for the Tournament Tropes.
Until death do we part Hide / Show RepliesI felt the same way and made it two folders, but someone changed it back. But if you think it really should change, then by all means.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"Shall Mario Party 2 have its own folder, or be condensed with Mario Party 1?
Hide / Show RepliesSince the page gets filled up faster than a bottle at a drink convention, I figure a separate folder would be best, so as not to overfill the existing one. I've also already taken the liberty of creating it.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"In the final New Super Mario Bros Wii episode, Jon predicts something and it happens almost 10 seconds later. Is there a trope for that? (it happens at around 11:20)
Two guys walk into a bar, the third guy ducked. Hide / Show Replies10 seconds it too short for foreshadowing I think, tempting fate sounds better.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"Tempting fate is when you predict something and then the opposite happens, such as "We're doing really good!" (sudden failure). If someone predicts something and it happens, rather than the opposite happening, that's possibly Genre Savvy.
No irony is when the opposite happens. Tempting fate is to say something will or might happen, and it happens. It can also cause the opposite but only if explicitly hoped for to not happen. Genre Savvy just means they're aware of the workings of their genre and use it to their advantage.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"I'm making a characters page, but I don't know how to add it to the tabs at the top. How do I do that? This way, the "tropes pertaining to the guys themselves" can be moved onto that page, so we can make the main page smaller.
Edited by MosquitoMan "AXEL ON STAAAAGE!" Hide / Show RepliesNever mind, I found out. But I still think it'd be a good idea to move those tropes to the characters page.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"Half the page did get cut recently (not by me!), presumably by accident. It's a pretty long page nevertheless...
There is a fine line between recklessness and courage — Paul McCartneyThe main article has examples that apply just to Mario Party. Should we move these, or should we wait to see their next LP before doing that?
Hide / Show RepliesIf we start seeing tropes pop up in multiple LP folders, then yes, we'll make a General folder for the recurring tropes. Until then, this works well enough.
What about the number of Shout Outs TRG make? Should their be a separate page for them?
Hide / Show RepliesYeah, might make a Trivia page for that once the second LP starts, maybe.
Honestly, after making this page, I didn't expect it would grow and flourish so quickly. The problem, though (despite how Beyond the Impossible and Crazy Awesome it is) is that all the examples on this page and the alternate pages have really become near Trope Overdosed, and their first LP isn't even fully posted on Youtube yet. The only thing I'm concerned about is how we're gonna organize all the examples once later LP's start coming. We've got like 5 examples to each trope now, at this rate, they're gonna have like fifteen to twenty in the near future.
Edited by DeathToSquishies Hide / Show RepliesMaybe we can make topic folders for specific L Ps? And have a general folder for ones that do/will apply to a number of videos.
I was considering making one section specifically for Character Tropes (as in, things that pertain to The Runaway Guys themselves on a regular basis, such as Big "WHAT?!" and Butt-Monkey). That'd be a good place to start. Maybe later, organize examples under each LP, and put whatever tropes apply to multiple LP's in a general section.
I think making folders would be a good idea, I was having the same worries.
"AXEL ON STAAAAGE!"Okay, how should we refer to the people here? The thing that bothers me is that there's no consistency. We should use one name for each person unless there's a good reason not to. Should we use their real names, usernames, or what? Any idea? This just started bothering me today.
Hide / Show RepliesChuggaaconroy's a bit long, so let's keep it as Chugga/a. Same with NCS. And Proton Jon can stay as is.
I've been noticing that the tropes page for Main Let's Plays has become ridiculously long to the point of being really slow to edit and I think it could benefit from being split into multiple pages based on specific game categories. We could have a page for Mario Party, a page for main series Mario games, and a page or two for the rest (like having one for non-Nintendo games). In addition we could move the General tropes section to the work's main page.
