openBadly written Work page
The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess is a recently created page that's frankly not well-made. All the tropes listed there are ZCE, and the description is rather negative. I'm a bit inclined to cutlist it, but maybe someone more familiar with the work can flesh it out.
openToo many page images?
Recap. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 8 E 13 The Mean 6 had a second page image added. I think that's against policy but want to double check.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenFranchise Misuse
Franchise.Love Live has a franchise page even though it only has two medias, anime and video game. Though, there's going to be a problem if it gets a new namespace since Love Live is a multimedia franchise.
Edited by WhirlRXopen Belloq a Dragon In Chief?
Duke Presley are having a debate in through DMs (I think it should be done through discussion, but they are insistent). We are debating over whether or not the character Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark is supposed to be a Dragon-in-Chief. The problem is that we are now using the same piece of evidence (that Dietrich and Hitler tracked down and recruited Belloq) as arguments for our respective positions (whether or not Belloq is working for the Nazis or is a third party that happens to be working with them). I would like another partyās opinion on this matter.
openDoes TV Tropes have or will have an API?
Hey, Does anyone know if the developers are thinking about having an API? Or is there any section of the website where it is possible to see some statistics? I mentioned an API because it would also be cool to crossreference this data with external data. With TV Tropes, Public Opinion AP Is, Social Media AP Is, Knowyour Meme you could probably find some really interesting correlations between media and public opinion and conversations.
open"Trope: Happens..."
I've noticed quite a lot of trope examples which are incomplete sentences on the pattern of
Trope: Happens in episode 5, when Alice...
I'd say that this style of writing is against policy because it's grammatically incorrect (there's no subject in the sentence; it should be "This happens..."), or is it so common that it's considered acceptable?
And even if you add a "This", I think it comes across as sloppy, formulaic writing to have a wiki full of examples starting with "This happens". Any thoughts on that?
openInappropriate Cut List?
I Reject Your Reality was added to the Cut List by Madface7 as "Exactly the same as Selective Obliviousness."
I assume this cut should be declined as such needs a TRS or some other approval. I PM'd them about that.
Was it approved?
Edited by Ferot_Dreadnaughtopen For Want of a Nail
I made a Trope Talk thread about For Want Of A Nail's copious amount of "inferred Nail" examples and if they're actually covered by the trope. I would like others to participate, as right now it's derailing into whether timeline shenanigans are also included in the trope, and the purple flower is confusing me greatly.
openGuidelines for what goes on a disambiguation page
While randomly picking linkes on Ambiguity Index to refresh my memory on how to structure a disambiguation page (in preparation for submitting a request to make one), I discovered the Nemesis disambiguation and noticed that it lists several works whose use the word "Nemesis" as the head word of a longer phrase (Nemesis the Warlock) or as a subtitle (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis). Do such (sub)titles qualify for inclusion on the disambiguation page, or are entries supposed to be limited to main titles that are solely composed of the word (e.g. Nemesis)?
openSaiunkoku Monogatari Anime
Does Saiunkoku Monogatari have an official English title? I remember back in around 2007-2009, Animax Asia had titled it as Colourcloud Palace.
If there is no official English title, should we use The Story of Saiunkoku, or should we use Colourcloud Palace? If either of the two, then the other one should be the redirect title.
Edited by alnair20aug93openSince when was MAD a trope? Live Action TV
So, I found this on Series.TheFactsOfLife a few months ago, and I still don't know what to do with it.
- MAD: "The Yaks Of Life," in which "Mrs. Ferret" is such an insufferable buttinski that "Mo," "Tootise," "Blah" and "Nutalie" take revenge by introducing her to their respective fathers - Mick "Animal" Belker, George Jefferson, J.R. Ewing and Boss Hogg! ("How could I know that every obnoxious character on TV fathered kids like you to carry on the family tradition?")
Are there any tropes worth mentioning here?
openWeird sandbox
Imperial Majesty XO created Sandbox.Gay Draft Sandbox on October 8th. It doesn't appear to be that discussion happened to result in its creation, and the sandbox itself doesn't seem to serve any real purpose. That, and it's related to the TLP incident.
Edited by GoldenCityBirdopenMiraculous Ladybug YMMV Edit War (?) + Rudeness Western Animation
I believe there is an edit war on YMMV.Miraculous Ladybug between Darky Lonewolf and Mikasa. Darky Lonewolf deleted the Seasonal Rot entry talking about Season 3, citing the reason that it's already covered by Broken Base. Mikasa re-added it, and then Darky deleted it again. Then Mikasa added it once again, and Darky deleted it a third time and was rude about it, adding a commented out statement at the end of the Broken Base entry that basically called them an idiot.
Regardless of who's right, Dark Lonewolf didn't have to be rude about it.
openD&D YMMV
I noticed that YMMV.Dungeons And Dragons lists Character Alignment tropes, even though as far as I know, they're not subjective in that context. Should they be moved to the character sheet, with the [[invoked]] tag added to them? Or just cut them since they're lacking context and have bad indentation?
Edited by Zuxtronresolved Are these "some fans" sentences allowed?
On character sheets, work pages, and other pages that are distinctly not YMMV or WMG, I've seen sentences beginning with "Some fans [verb or verb phrase]". The phrase is usually "believe" or "have speculated", and I highly doubt that it's allowed.
For an example, on Characters.Winnie The Pooh Supporting And Minor Characters, it says under B'loon's folder that "some fans have speculated" its sentience.
openAre there any specific guidelines for writing a Recap page?
i noticed there wasn't an Administrivia page for it (either that or my google-fu is weak), so now i'm posting here. if there actually isn't one, then i have some questions:
- is there a certain format we should be using for them? cursory search of random recap pages got me examples of one with one-paragraph summaries, another with Recap pages per episode, and yet another with whole arcs written like Works pages.
- how would one title Recap pages for media that doesn't use an episodic format? i'm thinking of doing one for Girls' Frontline sometime, which uses chapters instead (plus the occasional Unusual Chapter Numbers), and the plot's frankly pretty convoluted (not likely to use single paragraphs, as above).
openThis Troper on the Awesome Page for Gone Baby Gone
- Gone Baby Gone is just an awesome movie in general with quite a few Crowning Moments Of Awesome.
- Seeing Patrick put a bullet through a child molesters head after finding the corpse of his latest victim, even in cold blood certainly qualifies for me.
There is this entry that is both too gushy and has a This Troper thing on it. I normally would just remove it but a MOD edited the page and apparently didnt find this wrong. And besides I want to avoid an edit war by having consensus prior to doing it.
Webcomic.Doodleland Comics was just cutlisted by Lelene019, who is apparently unaware that The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours. That said, the comic was taken down according to the cut reason, and the link to it doesn't work, so it may indeed be lost media that we can't trope anymore.
