Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

Ask the Tropers:
openCharacter page with no main work page.
I recently discovered there's a character page for Finnish Mythology. However, there's no main work page for the mythology. Is this allowed?
openBad grammar
Codename774 uses bad grammar a lot. I've sent a notifier just now.
Example: "Doraemon is generally nice guy all around...
Example: "it essensially the christmas-themed version of this item."
Another example: "Their dynamic also heavily DependingOnTheWriter."
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenEdits to Death Battle WMG
Marci 26 has been removing explanatory comments and clarifications from certain entries on WMG.Death Battle Suggestions Returning Combatants, and deleting other entries entirely, all without any edit reasons. I sent a PM, but I'd like to know if there's a reason behind these edits that I'm missing.
EDIT: In their response, they said they viewed them as unnecessary. Personally, I think that the explanations could be useful for those who aren't familiar with the characters in question, and that doesn't explain why some fight suggestions got removed entirely.
Edited by ZuxtronopenProbably a dumb question but...
I just noticed that the Related tab in the pages have a Follow button. Does this mean my Watchlist will keep track on where the trope or work associated with the page is being entry-pimped? Or does it lack a purpose?
openWhat Germans think about David Hasselhof
Germans Love David Hasselhof is a YMMV trope for works that are popular outside the country they've been made. Now, I sometimes see this trope In-Universe on Non-YMMV pages when an in-Universe joke (as it's usually played for the laughs) about Germans liking David Hasselhof. Should these split to a new objective trope?
open Pre TLP Conceptualization. "COBRA-Analogue" Western Animation
Basically, a trope for evil, named organizations reminiscent of GI Joe's COBRA. That is to say, an terrorist-conspiracy-esque N.G.O. Superpower, often with a vague animal theming, legions of fanatical grunts, underground bases, super-science access to seemingly bottomless resources and military-grade weaponry such as tanks, who typically fight a heroic organization rather than just a singular hero, often the over-arching threat behind lesser ones.
Examples include Marvel's HYDRA, Command & Conquer's Brotherhood of Nod, Mass Effect's Cerberus.
Do you consider this worthy of a Fountain of Expies trope or not?
openSome weird edits
Gaucelm recently removed an entry on Deader Than Disco about the term Mary Sue with the edit reason "no, it is a widely known narrative flaw that's been around for decades and just because you disliked it being applied to Rey and other "strong independant women" doesn't make it less legit or because they were abused by a Vocal Minority". While the cleanup thread decided to keep the example removed, the edit reason seemed iffy to me.
And then I noticed that the same troper subsequently changed a portion of a different entry dealing with the once-popular "angry reviewer trend" on YouTube about The Mysterious Mr. Enter from mentioning his anti-mask views to expressing "controversial" opinions. Said troper also removed a mention of JonTron using "right-wing rhetoric", and replaced it with a mention of a "disastrous political debate stream".
Between these two edits, something seems off. A quick glance at some of the other edits of this troper didn't reveal much else in line with these edits, but I am still concerned about them. Should this be left alone, or should something be done?
openBizarre Alien Locomotion
On Bizarre Alien Locomotion, where should I place an example that could potentially fit under multiple folders? This is the example, for reference:
- The pouffes' primary method of movement is via the usage of a long, grappling hook-like tendril that they can shoot from their bodies, which allows them to drag themselves to any surface and stick to it. The tendril is also shown to be strong enough to pierce a hole through the metal shell of Su and Jack's car, as well as through people's heads in order to kill them. Aside from this, the pouffes are also able to simply slide along surfaces and jump through the air. At one point, a pouffe is even able to levitate and float around.
openWrong namespace ? Film
So I found Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013). Which is in the film namespace. This is apparently an all CGI anime though. So shouldn't it be in the anime namespace.
openCan I do a wick check to tropes on Tropes Needing TRS?
So, I didn't add Alluring Anglerfish, Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, or Everyone Is Gay to Tropes Needing TRS, but I'd kind of like to add wick checks for them. Am I allowed?
open Problematic page
Found JK Rowling Uses Magic To Turn Transvestites Into Serial Killers on the 2020s literature index. The title set off alarm bells and, while I haven't googled it (having no desire to dredge through that realm of the internet), it looks pretty transphobic. The YMMV page also has just two examples (less than three is a stub, right?).
openFixing recap page title
The recap page for the King of the Hill episode "Luanne Virgin 2.0" is miss titled as "Luanne Virgin 20". How do I go about fixing it?
Edited by Drakos25openNo mention of Borderlands in Awesome Videogame Levels? Videogame
It's curious there is zero mention of Borderlands maps or scenarios. And there are a lot of very climatic levels like Angel's room, Bunker, Vault, etc.
openNamespace Question
Why is the icon for the ARG namespace a loaf of bread? Is it like playing off alternate reality so the Mind Screw joke is a loaf of bread?
open Bizzare edits
Coolcatdragon has made some edits removing the words "poop", "butt", or "buttocks", changing them to synonyms or to refer to something else.
The edit history for the troper in question
Sorry if this isn't really ATT worthy.
Edited by fraggleloveropen Report Troper?
I've noticed a troper named domino710 has been editing several pages, but their writing skills — for example, on https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Film.Venom2018 — are not on-point. Their grammar could use some work, and they don't seem to be aware of how to properly format trope names. I've messaged them a couple of times and not gotten any replies back, so I'm not sure what should be done about them.
Edited by Arawn999openStock human diet
So, I noticed that Stock Animal Diet has folders for humans. If it was just one folder (since humans are one species), that would be one thing, but it's divided into different genders, ages, and social classes. Should we make a page for Stock Human Diet and move them there, or just delete them completely?
openWaiting period
Is there an amount of time that has to pass before a character is considered an Ensemble Dark Horse?
There is just something about this entry that feels off.
On the Characters.Steven Universe Pink Diamond
Ambiguous Disorder: Pink Diamond exhibited many symptoms of histrionic personality disorder, such as excessive emotionality, little patience, being highly attention-seeking, and a tendency to make very rash decisions with little thought behind them. She is also implied to have seduced a great deal of humans over her lifetime as Rose Quartz.
At the very least, is the last part necessary?
