openspoilers in a mostly spoiler-free page Videogame
There are a couple of entries on VideoGame.Pokemon Gold And Silver that hide any mention of the game's second half in spoilers, even though most of the page talks about it in the open. Would it be okay if I removed the spoilers?
openWhere can I find tropes that need certain pages like laconic or playing with
Laconic pages are the only thing I know how to make right now, but I don't know which tropes need one. Is there a place where I can find tropes that need a laconic page?
openAesop
I created AnAesop.South Park but other pages for an Aesop omit the "an", as in Aesop.Steven Universe. Should it be moved to Aesop.South Park?
openAbout potholing tropes in character names
An example: Kukri in The King of Fighters XV.
What's the official stance on this? I've read somewhere in this wiki once that this isn't desirable because characters aren't one-dimensional.
openTrivia misuse?
On the TV show Euphoria, there's a joke about a character being a One Direction fangirl who wrote Louis x Harry fanfiction - complete with a fully-animated Imagine Spot sex scene. The real Louis Tomlinson has made it known that he really didn't like the joke.
This was originally noted on the Trivia page for Euphoria under Disowned Adaptation. I deleted it because Disowned Adaptation is "Creator rejects adaptation of original work," not "Celebrity doesn't like a Real-Person Fic joke about themself."
It's since been re-added (not by the original Troper who added it) under Creator Backlash, which I'm pretty sure is still misuse, because that's "Creator comes to hate their own work." Am I right in this line of thinking? I don't want to delete it again and start an edit war, but it seems like shoehorning.
Edited by iamconstantineopenTroping creative work hosted on Neopets?
A post in the Roleplay Cleanup thread made me start thinking about how much untapped potential the Neopian Times has for finding tropeworthy creative works. For those who don't know, the Neopian Times is a newsletter produced by Neopets, filled with creative content made by site players, from comic strips to short stories to longform stories. There's a lot of really, really tropeworthy stuff hidden away in that one corner of the website.
My question is, if I did one day decide to go on an Archive Binge and find as many tropes as possible from these stories, how would I trope them? I don't think they'd go on the Neopets page itself, since the stories weren't produced by the site, merely hosted on them. At the same time, making separate pages for each work seems a little much, though I can definitely see how these stories could be considered fanworks.
So, how do?
open[Solved] Index Index listing more than just indexes
I was trying to look for a list of indexes to prepare for a future TLP launch, but this page isn't being very helpful. Most of these results aren't indexes at all.
Edited by LendriMujinaopen Big Brother’s Malawi Crisis Live Action TV
On the series Big Brother page there’s this claim that the show caused a constitutional crisis in Malawi! However I couldn’t find info on it, was this something that actually happened or just a hoax?
openHow does one make a page redirect?
See above. This may be a stupid question, though.
Edited by MacronNotesopen My description needs help
I'm currently planning to start a page for One Night Ultimate Werewolf, but I'm having some trouble with the work's description. I just feel like I need to add something to the end, but I'm not sure what.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it here or even if this is the right place to bring this up.
open Edit War on Funny.DeliciousPartyPrettyCure Anime
On the 6th of February, Tropers.Paleb05 added an example to Funny.Delicious Party Pretty Cure and listed it according to episode. From what I was told, we don't list moments according to episode. On that information, I removed the markup on the 11th with the prior info being cited in the edit reason. Then, on the 12th, they put it back with no edit reason and have continue to list moment according to episode. No discussion was made before the revert.
Edited by TheNerfGuyopen Is this proper formatting?
I made a laconic page for Death by Transceiver, and I'm not sure if I did it properly. Can someone make sure I did it right?
Edited by BurntCasseroleopen What does the term "Filk Song" even mean on this site?
That page still baffles me. I know that this site used to have namespaces for fan music on various work pages, until they got removed for, I presume, justifiable reasons. However, I'm still not sure what the term "Filk Song" means in any context. Parts of the site (and the page in question) consider it to be a very specific niche that combines nerdy subjects with particular musical styles, others just use it as an umbrella term for fan music. The wiki cannot decide on that, and even I don't know if I'm explaining anything correctly.
open Seeker of Crocus discussion
I feel like I'm opening a can of worms here, but I'm literally gonna go mad
So, I stopped reading this little spin off from the Blossomverse a long time ago after a lovely response by Green_Phantom_Queen from one of my criticisms, but after reading updates about the latest chapter (or more specifically the one before it) I feel like this needs some serious discussion:
So. to make a long story short: Chloe goes absolutely apesheet after Sara. with the power of the Unown, cripples Parker (oh no), merges Professor Cerise with an unown-made copy of himself to create a perfect version of her father (OH NO!) and is about to pull a Parker on all of Vermillion City all of spite. Professor Sycamore, the main character of the story, tries to talk her down, but not only does she rebukes him, but does so by tearing down his optimistic point of view and stating she's going to kill the culprit to stop them no matter what he said.
This hurts him bad enough, but then Specter (from Yu-Gi-Oh) talks her down by appeasing to her pessimism and does so in a way that makes the professor looks completely useless, which in turn causes him to go nuts.
The Professor merges with his shadow and intents to either destroy everything or Restart the World because he's grown sick of the story's growing pessimism and his inability to do jacksheet despite being the freaking main character, and he has to get his madness sealed before he kills everyone.
After all of this... the story tries to paint Chloe as having done nothing wrong, and instead show that Professor Sycamore is the one who needs to learn a lesson, not her.
Now, I don't know about you, but this looks to me like co-writer Green_Phantom_Queen (Spinnerette is the main author, but I haven't read her works that much, and even if I did, all this writing just reeks of Queen's traits) has learned absolutely nothing about the previous year or two writing the Blossomverse, but I do feel like this situation is a bit too complicated to see it like that.
So, what do you guys think? Is Chloe at fault? Is Professor Sycamore at fault? Is Specter at fault? Is nobody at fault? Just... let's try to reach a consensus here.
And note: Green_Phantom_Queen and Shady Missionary are not allowed here. This is for unbiased, third person opinions only.
Edited by MacronNotesopen Troper changing every instance of "Elliot" to "Ellen"
So, Meneth appears to be changing every instance of the name Elliot to Ellen everywhere on the wiki. I have to assume this is some wonk about Elliot Page, but they're doing it to random characters that are named Elliot. They might have a plug-in that automatically swaps the names or something.
This will probably require some major mod reverting.
Edited by MurlocAggroBopenPolicy on sexualized trope descriptions Videogame
A troper has been making edits on the League of Legends character pages, particularly League of Legends: L, that are very focused on aspects of the female characters' bodies. I know we have a ton of tropes already pertaining to fanservice, but somehow these just feel a bit over the top in their detail, and I'm wondering if there's some kind of policy on where the line is with descriptions about fanservive and if something is too much.
openIs BreakoutCharacter YMMV or a story trope.
I found this entry on YMMV.Star Trek Voyager:
- Breakout Character: Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) and Robert Picardo (The Doctor) are so multi-talented that they can carry the entire show by themselves, as they have shown on repeated occasions. Picardo has the Midas touch: The Doctor is simply the best thing about Voyager (beyond some sterling moments with the female cast), and one only has to take Picardo and inject him into a sister show (DS9) or movie (First Contact) for brilliance to be assured!
However, I was under the impression that like Breakout Villain Breakout Character is to go on main or character pages. Am I wrong about that or should this be moved?
Edited by BullmanopenIdiot Plot misuse (general example)?
IdiotPlot. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic
General:
- For starters, the bad guys almost never think to just knock out Twilight at the first possible opportunity. No matter how powerful the magic of friendship is, it can't do anything if Twilight (or Starlight in Chrysalis' case) isn't in any shape to invoke it. All they would have to do to dramatically raise the chance of success for any given evil plot is hire a goon or two to walk over and restrain someone who lacks combat experience.
- On the flipside, the villains rely exclusively on their magic, so Anti-Magic should work perfectly fine on them. Notably, the ponies actually try this in Season 9, except they make the remarkably brilliant decision of using the pieces of Queen Chrysalis's old throne, which they barely understand and which indiscriminately negates all magic, including their own. Unsurprisingly, the Legion of Doom uses this against them in the season finale.
Besides violating Examples Are Not General, the first is basically condensing what was under WhatAnIdiot. My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic but cut per cleanup (as it was too far removed what could realistically be exited from this genre).
I also believe they are misuse as: 1. Idiot Plot multiple separate characters making multiple separate moments of idiocy. these are just single moments. 2. Bad guys never singled out Twilight because those who recognized her threat were just as able to take out all the Mane 6 a once or had reason to target others first (like to break Twilight or use as hostages against her), and at no points were disadvantaged because they didn't single her out over the others. 3. Anti-Magic isn't more used because those the heroes have access to have limitations (like not powerful enough vs. other methods, not portable).
openSuspected Ban Evader
I'm starting to suspect that Wafer is Commander Visor ban evading. The reason I'm suspecting this is because not only do they share the same avatars of a blue mechanical panther character of sorts, but Wafer's earliest edit history seems to coincide with the few week gap of Commander Visor's last edit history (which all take place in October 2021). For reference, this was Commander Visor's last post on the Edit Banned thread and they did not bother to follow up on the appeal to get unsuspended since. There are no confirmation records of them getting unsuspended in that timeframe.
EDIT: Mods did an IP check and the results are negative (only coincidental), so please disregard this.

YMMV.Pokemon Scarlet And Violet:
Prior ATT said AST shouldn't allow prerelease examples. And it's just over one month since Legends released which is far to short a time for this to be a after the fact response to that. Cut?
