openEdit War in YMMV / Genshin Impact
There's an Edit War going on in YMMV.Genshin Impact over the Unfortunate Implications example. Strap yourselves in, because it involves multiple tropers. Edit history here.
- April 7th, 6:43 am: Example was initially added by Justan F E6fan Iguess.
- April 7th, 11:26 am: Example was revised by me with permission from the Citation Thread.
- April 8th, 4:54 am: Example was commented out by transparentanswer without discussion and did not cite any sources in their edit reason.
- April 9th, 9:40 am: Example was outright removed by Boobiesgalore.
- April 9th, 7:25 pm: Minorica restored the example and written it differently, but they did not participate in the citation thread and used unverified sources.
open A Specific Trope Name If One Exists Live Action TV
Hi there, spilers are mention in this post. So you have been warned.
What is it called in a meta sense when a certain actor appears in an episode of a show and get killed by a regular character?
The example I give is Criminal Minds: S 11 E 15 - "A Badge And A Gun". When the Unsub played by Carmine Giovinazzo gets his comeuppance by A.J. Cook. So the name of the trope I'm searching for applies to the following sentence: "Danny Messer got shot by Jennifer Jareau."
Edited by AaronLancsopenCan I merge two near-identical characters? Videogame
Someone made a character folder for Tutorial Unit from FFPS (on the main characters page for FNAF) and listed one completely false trope and one applicable trope. I deleted the incorrect information, meaning the folder has one trope in it (that Hand Unit already has listed). Tutorial Unit is basically Hand Unit in all but name. Can I delete the folder and change the name of Hand Unit’s folder to Hand/Tutorial Unit?
Edited by TheLuckOfTheClawsopenTrope confusion?
Hi there! So Daytona USA 2001 has been listed in both Polished Port and Porting Disaster.
Polished Port: 2001. Aside from the control issue mentioned below, the graphics and draw distance have been tremendously improved, up to 40 opponents can be raced on all courses with no slowdown, and includes eight courses with four variants each (normal, reverse, mirror, and mirror reverse), making it the biggest game in the series.
Porting Disaster: 2001 had bizarrely touchy control, something brought up in nearly every review of the game. Aside from that, it nailed down every other aspect of classic Daytona, but the game is tough enough without having to battle the controls.
I'm a bit confused as to which is the right trope to put this in. Can you please help me ?
openEditing Page Lags
Editing a page consumes too much resource, to the point that doing Ctrl+F on Page Edit is much slower than doing the same while reading a page (with all folders open).

openTroper engaging in edit war, being rude Film
Over at Stuart Saves His Family, Anddrix removed the following example after bringing it up in the ZCE thread and after I said in the thread that it could be removed:
- Uncertain Audience: As Al Franken noted twenty years later:
Al Franken: Somebody wrote a review that said something like, "Watching Stuart Saves His Family go into the multiplexes is like watching a platoon of rookie soldiers head into an ambush. The people who will like this movie won’t go to it, and the people who will go to it won’t like it."
The rationale used to remove it was that it was a ZCE since it relies on a quote to do most of the explaining, and is also used largely to complain.
Another Guy, however, reverted it with the rather rude edit reason:
Said troper later expanded it to this:
- Uncertain Audience: As Al Franken noted in an interview with Vanity Fair twenty years later about how film's marketing attracted the wrong audience, as noted above in Misblamed:
Al Franken: Somebody wrote a review that said something like, "Watching Stuart Saves His Family go into the multiplexes is like watching a platoon of rookie soldiers head into an ambush. The people who will like this movie won’t go to it, and the people who will go to it won’t like it."
While this entry is slightly better, it still relies on another entry and largely relies on a quote, so I am unsure if it is still a ZCE.
Another Guy also sent me a somewhat rude PM about the edit on top of that.
What should be done here?
openMulti-Take Cut Confusion
I recently came across and edited the trope page for Multi-Take Cut. I later looked at the page for Repeat Cut. The former says it's different from the latter, but some of the entries make me think otherwise. I don't know enough about this to say what's what, so what does anyone else know about it?
openCross Ange Anime
I just watched Cross Ange and checked over the trope page, and I think it needs some serious cleanup. Some tropes are character tropes instead of plot tropes and there are references to anime and video games that average Americans may not even know and the YMMV page is very opinionated and full of knee-jerk reactions, even by YMMV standards. I think these pages were developed back when the show was still broadcasting and could use a rework now that it's been years since the show ended. What do you say?
openClassic Mythology Character Page
Someone added a folder for "Cybele" under the "Olympians and Other Major Gods" character page for Classical Mythology. Now, I am not a Greek myths expert of course, but that doesn't really sound like a major god to me. It says in the folder that she's actually Phrygian anyways, so maybe she should be in the "Minor Gods" folder?
Edited by Loopytires55openConfusing sentences + Wrong indentation + Expy misuse
Zero Sword 0 has been on this wiki for quite a while and, although they do not edit often, their entries have some problems. Here are a few from their latest editing spree across multiple Mega Man pages:
- Listing a trope that does not exist ("Bad Guys Win". Also, the character in question is not even "bad" to begin with).
- Sentences that don't seem to make any sense: See here and [[here.
- The above, plus Speculative Troping: Here.
- Shoehorned Expy example that compares two characters simply because they are of similar heights. It's also incorrectly indented.
- Wall of Text with Word Cruft, First-Person Writing, and bad grammar: Here.
openEdit War in Characters / Genshin Impact Archons
There's an Edit War in Characters.Genshin Impact Archons over the God Is Evil example. Since this is happening on the same day, I won't bother timestamping this time. Full history here.
- Blitzkrieg Samurai added the example.
- Aker-Sama removed the example since it violated Speculative Troping.
- Blitzkrieg Samurai re-added the example with only minor changes, but still doesn't improve the Speculative Troping situation.
openEdit War
Edit War on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 4 "The Whole World Is Watching":
- Papermage 8 added an Alternative Character Interpretation entry.
- Ry Cyber deleted it.
- Papermage 8 added it right back.
The entry in question is currently under discussion in the clean-up thread for being complainy.
Edited by TenebrikaopenRevert needed on Terminator
Can a mod please revert the edits made by Tropers.WDS on the Terminator page? Not only did they delete SEVERAL valid tropes/examples, but on one in particular, they added a nonsensical “Citation Needed” bullet point.
Edited by NubianSatyressresolved Rayfox YMMV vandal
So...I noticed almost everything I wrote was arbitrarily taken down from the YMMV page of Ray Fox by Rocksmasher with no actual reason whatsoever typed out; only two tropes he bothered to give a reason for, with his reasoning being along the lines of "because the fans said..." which isn't exactly factual or valid for that matter, especially with Designated Monkey being removed; only thing I will say there is that one was not of my creation.
I suspect that either one of two things:
1. They're doing it on the author's request despite being banned/suspended from the website
2. This user is simply doing it out of spite due to being one of his fanboys.
While I don't see anything on the policy saying that they cannot do the former, it seems it's an arbitrary move on the user's part to do the latter...
Me and Fighteer agreed it's a bad idea for me to go anywhere near the page regarding edits and revising, and an edit war is against the rules anyway...however, I feel like his fans are taking advantage of the fact and are emboldened by ScottyArtz's recent coercion attempt, and it's irksome to have YMMV tropes of mine deleted without any solid reasoning just because they speak of the comic in a non-praising manner; YMMV is an opinion page, and to delete those you don't like without any factual reasoning and instead rely on conjecture like "the fans are actually [insert reasoning here]" is a problem that shouldn't be ignored...Is there technically anything anyone else can do about this?
Edited by Stardust5099openDisambiguation for multiple TV series called "Missing"
If this sounds familiar, yeah it's a follow-up to a previous ATT.
There are several works called "Missing". (See Main.Missing for the current list.)
Included is a show currently troped under 1-800-Missing, which only kept that name for one season. It was subsequently Re-tooled and re-titled as "Missing". Normally, we would trope it as Series.Missing 2003 and be done with it. However, this would collide with a US-based True Crime call-for-aid show also called "Missing", which also launched in 2003. (This show is currently un-troped.) Should we:
- Stick with the "Missing 2003" title, and deal with the true crime show if it ever shows up
- Have the fiction series keep using Series. One Eight Hundred Missing because it's distinctive
- Preemptively decide that the non-fiction show should be Series.Missing True Crime 2003, and add it to the disambiguation page, just to make sure that we don't have to do another cleanup.
- Something else?
openWork I can’t find
On The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You, there’s this under the Theatre folder
- In the Swedish horror play "Wärdshuset", the fourth wall does not ''exist"! The audience is lead into a hall and with a clear cue the play starts as if it's a conversation between the employees. As the play goes on and the behaviour of the actors become more and more unsettling the actors lead the audience into a smaller room with a square of chairs to sit in. The room is completely dark. The play continues but with no light except a flashlight and a lighter and the room is filled with Silent Hill-esque monsters that touch the audience. When the play "ends" the audience is lead out by the villian into the hall which is dark and filled with the monsters and is simply lead out. The whole play is played as if it was happening and the audience just ended up there by accident.
All fine and dandy, except for the fact that I can’t find the work anywhere, no videos, no news stories, no mention outside on TV Tropes, the only thing that pops up when looking up the title is a building unconnected with this. Should I cut?
openNonPack title formatting question
I have the page ready with the tropes and everything to launch (and I'll index as soon as I get it there), but how the heck do I spell NonPack as one word in the title on the page? Like, every single time I go and type it in it keeps making it "Non pack" and that's now how the title is. I've seen this done with MechWarriors in particular so I am curious as to what's the technique?
I've tried the [ = text = ] technique but that doesn't even work with page titles.
Edited by Stardust5099openAnother Manual of Style-related Question Print Comic
When noting comic-book issues, do we include the number sign with the issue number or not? Because fangheadsforever tore through the Rainbow Rowell's Runaways work page and removed every number sign, with no explanation as for why, and I'm wondering if this was in keeping with some rule I was unaware of or if it's just their preference.
Edited by StrixObscuro
On February 13th, I, Rebel Falcon, removed the following tropes from the YMMV page for the fanfic Codes And Geass: Embracing Your Inner Megalomania on the grounds that none of the tropes were YMMV tropes:
- The Chew Toy: Trollouche goes out of his way to provoke people he doesn't like, particularly Chiba and Asahina of the Four Holy Swords. YMMV as to whether he's justified in blaming them for the events of the original timeline or not.
- Eviler than Thou: Trollouche plays up this image, but he's really on the side of justice, or so he says. YMMV as to whether he's any kind of villain.
- Too Dumb to Live: Kaname Ohgi. Ohgi sadly has no grasp of Realpolitik or propaganda and questions most of Zero's more controversial (albeit necessary. from a pragmatic viewpoint) decisions. This is a source of immense frustration for Trollouche, who's trying not to just demote, fire, or outright kill him. Most of this is caused by Trollouche taking a much heavier hand in controlling the Black Knights and seizing control/killing other resistance groups.
- General Katase. His broadcast in the middle of the Narita battle destroys the Black Knights momentum, costing them the battle. A fact that an outraged Zero plans to use to villify the JLF and ruin what's left of the organization.
- Ohgi appears to have wised up abit, publicly backing Zero to the hilt in the Narita battle post-operation address. Time will tell if it sticks.
On March 22nd however, the troper Trickster_Priest, who is in fact the author of the fanfic, re added all of the removed tropes. The reason he listed being: "I am the author, I decide what gets purged." Just because they are the author however doesn't mean they can just add non-YMMV tropes to a YMMV page though, right? I figured bring this here to be safe so as to prevent a risk of an Edit War. Edited by RebelFalcon
