Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

Ask the Tropers:
openForever Purge Trivia Deletion Film
With the page for Film/The Forever Purge being cut once again because insufficient tropes were provided (I tried), can we also cut the trivia page for that film? It just looks weird to have the trivia page without the film.
I want consensus on this before approaching the cutting board.
open A question to the mods.
I've been wondering for the longest time about one thing: How do people become a mod in Tv Tropes? The reason why I asked you guys not because I wanted to become a mod, but the real reason is because I was curious how it works.
Edited by BubblepigopenIs the So Bad it's horrible section something you need permission to post on
I'm wondering if it's one of those things where you need approval before adding examples or not.
Edited by BootlebatopenConcern About TRS Wick Cleaning
So this is something I had just noticed about TRS Wick Cleaning that is worrying me and I thought that I should bring up. First of all the description of TRS Wick Cleaning is "This is a list of wick cleanings mandated by TRS efforts."
The problem is several of the examples listed on there have no TRS thread that mandated their wick cleaning for example Girly Girl, Tomboy, The Cynic and Character Death. In fact, the four examples that I just listed are listed as No On-Page Examples which means that they don't have any examples on the page but can off the page, which for simplicity means there is no rule preventing those four tropes from being used as trope examples. But the TRS Wick Cleaning makes it seem like that all the wicks should be moved to its subtropes and as I will remind you these four tropes never had a TRS thread that mandated a wick cleaning so something isn't right about them being listed here.
Edited by Ordeaux26openIs "yeet" an ok word to use in standard Wiki writing now?
I'm asking this because on Characters.Genshin Impact Archons, I found this example which has "yeeted" in it.
- Person of Mass Destruction: Part of Barbatos' efforts to get rid of Mondstadt's perpetual winters involves destroying a majority of the mountains that surrounded the area. Only the summit of the tallest mountain Pilos Peak, now known as Musk Reef, remained after Barbatos was done with it. Albedo later surmises in an echo conch that the Golden Apple Archipelago, a series of islands outside of Teyvat were once mountains that Barbatos destroyed with his winds and yeeted outside of Teyvat. Note that Barbatos is the weakest of the Seven.
openNeedless text color?
Helljmpr Rookie added red text coloring to these Quotes.Woobie Destroyer Of Worlds entries:
I'm not seeing any justification for the red text. Should it be removed or what?
I'll also PM them about it.
openRude troper
Could Yeetus Deletus 69420 get a tap on the shoulder, please? Some of edit history is pretty rude to say the least. Link to history here
Noticed them with their latest edit reason, "You're saying that AUTHORITARIANISM is justified. Why would you ever be right under any circumstance?"
On this page, they're very insistent on "the pope" not being added to the page. They left two commented-out, all-caps notes for Tropers not to add him, the latest reading I TOLD YOUR STUPID ASS NOT TO PUT THE POPE HERE. HE NEVER APPEARS.
Here, edit reason is "Are you kidding me?! As I'm writing this, at this very moment, I'm laughing my ass off. There are no heartwarming moments in Hatching the Plan! What are you, stupid?"
Normally I'd send a notifier but this isn't the first time they've been reported for potential rudeness
Edited by iamconstantineopenMessy description in Canada, Eh?
It would be great if the description for Canada Eh could be cleaned up. The description is long and filled with potholed fan myopia.
Should some of the description be moved to Analysis?
openTroper with spelling/grammar issues
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon (and later removed) a Critical Research Failure entry that not only admitted it was nitpicking from the start, it also had poor spelling and grammar, with words having random missing/misplaced letters. That entry was added by TVGUY54, and it seems they've been adding other entries (and even entire pages) with random misspelled words and poor grammar. In one case, they spelled "examples" with a 3.
Edited by Shadow8411openReadding incorrect entries Web Original
On Characters.Death Battle Season Eight, this entry was added:
- Adaptational Wimp: Not Link himself — who puts up a strong fight against Cloud before losing — but his much-hyped Fierce Deity form, which gets hit almost immediately by Cloud's Omnislash V5 Limit Break and then dies seconds later without even so much as landing an attack.
I removed it with the reasoning that it was less about Link being nerfed and more of Cloud simply being stronger, as seen in the animation itself.
Then Gf93, a troper that I have brought up multiple times for reinserting entries before, readded the entry under Clipped-Wing Angel, which again, does not count since the Fierce Deity is never shown as a detriment to Link.
Is it okay if I remove this entry?
openShould Cr1tikal's page be moved? Web Original
Critikal is in the LetsPlay namespace (which is being further discussed here) because he started his career as a gaming commentator, but he has a lot of content besides Let's Plays, especially now that he's shifted to more general commentary. Should he be moved to WebVideo.Critikal (or WebVideo.Cr1tikal if we can include the number in the title)? I'm not asking about the general Let's Play namespace right now cuz like I said, we have a thread to discuss that more broadly.
openOops. Music
The bottom part of the Memes/Music page is a disaster, as it looks like someone tore through it and made the label notes not work. I am beginning to think that I accidentally caused it, as an I am pretty sure an example switched to a broken one after I deleted a broken one. Can someone please revert my edits and make them better? P.S: Sorry for the length and begging.
Edited by ehwhynotopenTroper with indentation issues
Not too long ago, Pendrake was the subject of a query regarding political edits where they don't belong and violate ROCEJ, with a few entries showing a poor grasp of our indentation rule.
His latest note this one should have been put in dialogue formating edits (some of which are again political) show that he has ignored my notifier about indentation.
openVideo Examples
What kind of files does TV Tropes use and are there any restrictions on amount of examples per trope? Per work? Also what's the maximum length of the clips.
openRedundant Character Pages
The Godzilla from Godzilla: Singular Point has two character folders, one in the anime characters page and one in the general Godzilla incarnations page. Which profile should be kept?
Edited by JRads47openWham Line ZCEs
There's quite a few Zero-Context Examples in Wham Line, especially in WhamLine.Live Action TV. I was able to fix a few, but there's quite a lot that I don't know the context for.
This one in particular is driving me crazy:
- Taxi: "Could I say just one word? SELTZER!" (From the episode "Jim's Mario's")
I think we might need some cleanup here.
openMeme Misuse?
- Unplayable Minigames Explanation The Midsummer Island Adventure features minigames scattered around the archipelago that reward the player upon completion. Many players skipped the tutorial upon receiving the Wind-Blessed Harpastum (An item required to complete them) and have no clue how to play these games.
I don't know, but it sounds like a case of Read the Freaking Manual than a meme.
open Franchise Original Sin cleanup thread
Per a decision made in TRS, we've started a cleanup thread for Franchise Original Sin. Anyone who wishes to participate is more than welcome to drop by and give their two cents.
Why can I no longer view the entire history of a page when I'm not logged in?
