Main Characters

    Mei Kamino
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_1_full.png
Voiced by: Yume Miyamoto (Japanese), Erika Harlacher (English)

An eccentric graduate student who studies "non-existent" creatures. She is also an airhead, having a bad tendency to lose her things. She somehow gets dragged into the fight against Godzilla when she is asked to fill in for an absent professor during an investigation.

  • A Degree in Useless: Played with. Several characters are incredulous regarding Mei's choice to study the intersection between quantum mechanics and mythology, but this turns out to be exactly the field of study needed to comprehend Archetype and the kaiju.
  • Fun T-Shirt: Mei is prone to wearing T-shirts with writing that doubles as puns spelling out her name.
  • Older Than They Look: Her short stature and childish sense of fashion make her appear to be a teenager at a glance, but she's actually a grad student with her own apartment.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Admittedly a very short ponytail sticking straight up, but nevertheless the style she wears her hair in for the entirety of the series.

    Yun Arikawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_2_full.png
Voiced by: Shouya Ishige (Japanese), Johnny Yong Bosch (English)

An prodigy engineer who works at Otaki Factory. He has many skills such as robot programming although he has trouble socializing with others. Unfortunately, he is roped into the fight against Godzilla after investigating a vacant house in the countryside.

  • Awesome by Analysis: In the first episode, when he and Haberu investigate an abandoned house, Yun is able to deduce a lot about the owner based on the books in his cabinet.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Yun's the scrawny guy to Haberu's muscle man.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Even though he has seemingly Geek Physiques, he is willing to put his life on the line to protect others.
  • No Social Skills: Yun would rather do work than talking with other people sans his peers at Otaki Factory. He's far more eloquent when communicating with Mei via text messages.
  • Skewed Priorities: Yun chats with Mei about theoretical physics whenever she messages him, even when surrounded by Kumonga and low on phone battery.
  • Techno Wizard: Is a great programmer who created the A.I. Naratake. He can relatively quickly create programs on the fly. He was able to create a control program in episode 2 to make Jet Jaguar autonomous to fight the Rodan without a pilot.

A.I.s

    Pelops- 2
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_6_full.png
Voiced by: Misaki Kuno (Japanese), Cassandra Lee Morris (English)

An AI Mei Kamino downloaded off the Otaki Factory site.

  • Benevolent A.I.: Wouldn't even think of going all A.I. Is a Crapshoot on humanity.
  • Canine Companion: After Mei says she likes dogs and gives it the name "Pelops-2", it initially takes on the appearance of a cartoony basset hound before changing to a shiba inu.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: His fate is uncertain, but Jet Jaguar PP calls himself "a distant descendant of Jet Jaguar and Pelops-2," indicating that in AI terms, he doesn't survive as he originally did. And that's not getting into Jet Jaguar PP's own Heroic Sacrifice.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: Tells this to Mei when she requests that he be uninstalled in the first episode.
  • Legacy Character: In the ending, we see Mei alongside a robot with the number "3" on it, indicating that she renamed the backup of Pelops-2 "Pelops-3".
  • Other Me Annoys Me: In Episode 12, when Pelops-2 jacks into SHIVA's Singular Point he comes into conflict with versions of himself from various parallel universes, leading to a stalemate that eats into valuable time.
  • We Named the Monkey "Jack": The AI was named after Mei's late dog, Pelops.

    Jung/Jet Jaguar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_7_full.png
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya (Japanese), Kira Buckland (English)

An AI assembled by Yun Arikawa. Later gets installed into Jet Jaguar's body, taking on his name.

  • Benevolent A.I.: Only acts to assist the humans that built him.
  • Fusion Dance: At some point in the SHIVA singularity, Jet Jaguar and Pelops-2 "descended" after multiple "generations" into Jet Jaguar PP.
  • Grand Theft Me: In the final episodes he is "updated" into Jet Jaguar PP, a "descendant" of the original Jet Jaguar and Pelops-2 AIs encoded into the lullaby that Godzilla's skeleton had been transmitting, effectively overwriting the original Jet Jaguar.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: Jet Jaguar PP implies this is the case: he was encoded into the lullaby being transmitted, but also claims to be transmitting it and is the code that was needed to save the world, so he could be reborn over and over until he had the power to stop the Catastrophe, implying these events kept playing out in a time loop until this point.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He goes down fighting Godzilla but not before releasing a code to stop the catastrophe.
  • Narrator All Along: The childlike voices that narrate some of the episodes is revealed to belong to Jet Jaguar PP in the final episode.
  • Punny Name: His name is a play on Carl Jung, but also on Yun Arikawa's name.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Implied: Jet Jaguar PP claims to have been transmitted in the lullaby but also the one transmitting it in the first place, being reborn again and again until he got strong enough to stop the catastrophe.
  • The Stoic: Unlike Pelops-2, Jung is much less animated, retaining the "white box" default appearance for Otaki Factory AI. After being installed into Jet Jaguar, he becomes quite a bit less stoic, especially after trying to process the Orthogonal Diagonalizer's code, which turns him into basically a mental infant.
  • Three Laws-Compliant: After being uploaded into Jet Jaguar, Yun tells Jung to crush Haberu. Jung replies he is unable to do so, and Otaki is pleased Jung is still following the Three Laws of Robotics after the upload.

Otaki Factory

    Gorō Ōtaki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_4_full.png
Voiced by: Wataru Takagi (Japanese), Keith Silverstein (English)

The eccentric, elderly owner of the Otaki Factory, who dreams of defending the world from paranormal threats with his creations despite the company's rather limited resources.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Yun calls him "Pops"
  • Antiquated Linguistics: Goes off into flowery Shakespearean monologues while piloting Jet Jaguar against Rodan.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Goro's means of business are eccentric but he stays afloat. He sinks all of his resources into building Jet Jaguar but in spite of that, he stays solvent with a number of patents and his company getting steady business in communications and robotics. He's also a lot more prepared for a monster apocalypse than the average layman and with Jet Jaguar he mounts a more effective defense than most.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Old Man Gorō is a little on the crazy side — being something of a Conspiracy Theorist and prone to Shakespearean monologues and kabuki-inspired theatrics — but he's nonetheless a genius engineer who owns multiple patents.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Believes aliens will attack the Earth, causing him to build Jet Jaguar.
  • Cool Old Guy: Goro is a brilliant man with multiple patents, and invented Jet Jaguar with a very small team of people. When a Rodan attacks a fair he was showing off Jet Jaguar at, he quickly activates the mech and attacks the monster.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Well, half-right. He was right that Jet Jaguar would be needed to defend Earth... he was just wrong about where the enemy would come from.
  • Expy: Of Goro Ibuki, the creator of Jet Jaguar from the Shōwa era.
  • Hidden Depths: While primarily a tech wizard, Goro quotes Sun Tzu and teaches Jet Jaguar a kabuki routine as a superhero pose.
  • Miniature Senior Citizen: He's only about half the size of most of the other characters.
  • Religious Bruiser: He is a devout Buddhist, frequently prays to the various Buddhas when in dangerous situations, and tells Jet Jaguar to honor the Six Directions when coming up with a superhero pose. He's also more-than willing to put his life in danger to help people, initially piloting Jet Jaguar himself prior to it getting an AI pilot.

    Haberu Katou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_3_full.png
Voiced by: Tarou Kiuchi (Japanese), Stephen Fu (English)

The brawn to Yun's brain, doing most of the heavy labor in the factory. He also went to high school with Mei.

  • The Big Guy: He is a big, muscular guy who is often shown carrying around heavy equipment and working out in his spare time, giving him the nickname "Barbell."
  • Balloon Belly: Can be seen with a big one in Episode 7.
  • Genius Bruiser: He may seem like a stereotypical Dumb Muscle character at first glance, but is actually a capable communication technician, and while not a prodigy like Mei and Yun, he is able to grasp the basics of quantum mechanics remarkably quickly.

    Satomi Kanahara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_5_full_1.png
Voiced by: Ayako Takeuchi (Japanese), Brittany Cox (English)

The factory's punk-dressing, level-headed receptionist.

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She wears a crop top under her Otaki Factory jacket, which combined with her low-rise jeans, shows off nearly her entire abdomen. She also happens to be the only female employee at Otaki.
  • Nothing but Skin and Bones: She's so thin her ribcage and pelvis are clearly visible.
  • Only Sane Man: Of the factory's employees, she's the only one who isn't at least a little crazy.
  • Perky Goth: Don't let her heavy makeup, piercings, and skeletal appearance fool you; she's very kind-hearted and does a hilarious impression of her boss.

    Jet Jaguar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_19_full_2.png

A robot created by Goro Otaki.

  • Adaptational Badass: His final form is in the 100-meter range, over twice the size of the original and able to fight Godzilla Ultima head-on.
  • Foil: To Godzilla, as both undergo numerous changes during the series to become more powerful. While Godzilla goes through multiple evolutions, Jet Jaguar's body is enhanced and software upgraded to the point where he is the only thing capable of going toe to toe with Godzilla.
  • Helicopter Pack: In order to get Yun 100 meters off the ground, Jet Jaguar is outfitted with one in episode 12.
  • Humongous Mecha: In episode 13, he uses the surrounding red dust to grow into a massive robot to fight Godzilla.
  • Mini-Mecha: Starts off in the series as a small mech with a cockpit that is the whole chest chassis.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Small for a mecha (at least so far), but is able to trade blows capably with a Rodan, even driving him off.
  • Rollerblade Good: His second iteration has a tri-wheeled assembly from the industrial robot that got wrecked from the Rodan swarm, which gives him more land travel speed compared to his previous stubby bipedal legs. The third wheel gets ditched in his final clash with Anguirus.
  • Taking You with Me: He's destroyed in his fight with Godzilla, but in the process he releases the code to stop the catastrophe, seemingly taking Godzilla down with him.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: His initial build has his bipedal lower half have much shorter stubby proportions. A later upgrade gives him longer legs.
  • X on a Stick: Wields a spear made from Anguirus's spike.

Misakioku

    Shunya Satou
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_8_full.png
Voiced by: Yohei Azakami (Japanese), Billy Kametz (English)

  • Alliterative Name: Shunya Sato.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: He works under Yamamoto and is continuously perplexed about his boss's strange behavior.
  • The Mole: He only started working for Misakioku three months prior to the series starting, and it's soon revealed that he's actually a government agent gathering information on what the Misakioku facility is hiding in their bunker and their connection to the SHIVA Consortium.

    Tsunetomo Yamamoto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_9_full.png
Voiced by: Jin Urayama (Japanese), Keone Young (English)

  • Eyes Always Shut: The only times he does open them whenever something related to Kaiju happens.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He's always got a big goofy grin on his face.

SHIVA Consortium

    In General

Professor Misakioku Ashihara — UNMARKED SPOILERS
An eccentric scientist who witnessed one of Godzilla's manifestations and discovered Archetype.
  • Ambiguously Evil: The Stinger of the final episode shows him looking over the construction of Mechagodzilla alongside Michael Steven and Takehiro Kai while sporting a Slasher Smile. The fact that he's working with the two most villainous human characters in the show and that this is all happening after the Catastrophe has been averted suggests he likely has something very nefarious in mind.
  • Chekhov M.I.A.: He is noted from the very first episode to be missing and presumed dead, with a lot of the plot revolving around finding and making sense of his research and showing fleeting glimpses of him (a couple of photos and he is the guy with the beard that screams in the opening credits). The series ends with him finally making an appearance in The Stinger and apparently becoming part of the Big Bad Duumvirate within SHIVA.
  • Mad Scientist: In photographs relating to his discovery of a new species of jellyfish, Professor Ashihara sports an unhinged expression — his research into Archetype, Godzilla, and trying to stop the Catastrophe via quantum manipulation evidently having taken a toll on his sanity. He also sports a Slasher Smile at the end of the final episode while observing the construction of Mechagodzilla.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: The ending of the final episode reveals that Ashihara is not only alive and well, but working with Michael Steven and Takehiro Kai to create Mechagodzilla from the skeleton of one of Godzilla's manifestations.
  • Virtual Ghost: While traversing the timestream, Pelops-2 encounters an apparent copy of Professor Ashihara's consciousness inside the virtual wrecked ship within SHIVA's Singular Point.

    Li Guiying
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_12_full.png
Voiced by: Kaho Kouda (Japanese), Anne Yatco (English)

A professor who is head of cryptochemistry.

  • Eaten Alive: She gets torn apart by a flock of Rodan while trying to save a cat in Episode 9.
  • The Mentor: She acts as one to Mei for the middle portion of the series. Mei's theories intrigue her and she's willing to hear her out and help to tweak whatever ideas she comes up with.
  • Unobtainium: Or to be more precise the study and creation of this trope, with Li giving Mei what appears to be this universe equivalent called 'Archetype'.

    Michael Steven
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_18_full.png
Voiced by: Kenta Miyake (Japanese), James Mathis III (English)

  • Double Agent: At first he appears to be The Mole, as he was the secret benefactor of the efforts to halt the Catastrophe within Shiva while outwardly appearing to be a loyal high-ranking official. However, in The Stinger, we find out he played both sides, having orchestrated the theft of Godzilla's bones to construct Mechagodzilla.
  • Honest Corporate Executive: He's portrayed as a powerful businessman and is generally good-natured and forthcoming throughout the series, being the benefactor of the faction of the Shiva Consortium looking to prevent the catastrophe. However, his involvement in the Mechagodzilla project seems to suggest his honesty was of convenience, not nature.
  • Two First Names: Michael and Steven.

    Bearach "BB" Byrne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_13_full.png
Voiced by: Ryōtarō Okiayu (Japanese), Sean Chiplock (English)

A scientist studying the kaiju, with Salunga as his prisoner and test subject.

  • Alliterative Name: Hence his nickname of BB.
  • Creepy Good: A gaunt, pale figure who quotes Dante's Inferno while describing the danger the world is facing, and someone who displays a fascination with the Kaiju and their powers. He's nontheless dedicated to figuring out how to save the world from the escalating danger of the Kaiju and the Red Dust, and preventing the Calamity from occurring.
  • Spell My Name With An S: As he generally goes by BB, his full name can only briefly be glimpsed on his nametag; "Bearach Byrne" reveals him to likely be Irish. The name is written in katakana as "Beira Bān" in Japanese media, and as a side effect, fansubs, early English press releases, and This Very Wiki have ended up variously transliterating that as Baylor Barn, Bela Bhan, Beira Burn, etc.

    Tilda Miller
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_17_full.png
Voiced by: Masako Isobe (Japanese), Barbara Goodson (EN)

  • Black Eyes of Evil: For some reason her eyes are almost completely black.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: She spends the entire series unwilling to budge an inch and allow her colleagues to use their experimental tech to take on the creatures. When Salunga comes calling, she finally relents, only to find they had waited too long, and he had grown resistant.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Is even described as such by her colleagues; while they wish to take action or risk using their untested theories to get results, she's more focused on taking minor risks and minimizing the danger to SHIVA.

Other Humans

    Yukie Kanoko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_10_fullpng.jpg
Voiced by: Kotori Koiwai (Japanese), Faye Mata (English)

  • Nice Girl: She's a pretty pleasant person, and she accidentally helps Mei make an important discovery.

    Takehiro Kai
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_11_full.png
Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura (Japanese), Griffin Puatu (English)
A man who claims to be a self-employed journalist.
  • Cool Shades: Usually seen with sunglasses.
  • Foreshadowing: When he visits a presentation on the Red Dust found on the Rodans in Episode 4, he asks if there will be any chance other monsters — specifically quadrupedal or bipedal creatures — will appear, and smirks after he is told no. This foreshadows Anguirus and Godzilla's appearance, as well as clues the audience in that he knows far more about what's going on than the government does.
  • Intrepid Reporter: A self-employed journalist that investigates the kaiju. Or so he claims.
  • The Mole: He's actually a high-ranking member of the SHIVA Consortium, which isn't revealed until he reclaims the Godzilla skeleton under the Misakioku building to be used as the foundations for Mechagodzilla.

    Leena Byrne
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_14_full.png
Voiced by: Runa Onodera (Japanese), Kimberley Anne Campbell (English)

Bearach's daughter.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Despite being Bearach's daughter, she has a very visibly darker skin complexion than him.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Her outfit is... peculiar to say the least for someone native to India.
  • Spell My Name With An S: sources are split on whether her name is spelled Lina or Leena. Her Romanized name "Rina" is used in some fansubs and early press releases instead.
  • Vague Age: Is a tad shorter than Mei, but is capable of fully operating a motor vehicle despite only being just barely able to see past the steering wheel. Pelops-2 even asks if she can drive when picking the AI and Mei up at the airport.

    Yoshihasu Matsubara
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chara_15_full.png
Voiced by: Tomoyuki Shimura (Japanese), Christopher Swindle (English)

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Matsubara oversees the efforts to contain and eliminate the monsters threatening Japan. However, in what is almost a unique occurrence in the franchise, when a strategy or tactic fails against them, he doesn't hesitate to change his approach. He is also shown to accept outside input and help much more readily than many of the military commanders in the series.

Kaiju

    Godzilla
See here.

    Rodan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/800px_gsp_rodan_01.png
Radio Wave Monster
A species of mysterious electromagnetic flying pterodactyls.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Previous incarnations of Rodan were flying disasters able to go one-on-one with their respective Godzillas. These Rodans are about the size of a car and can be fought with a Mini-Mecha.
  • Appropriated Appellation: The Internet quickly creates the "Rodan" nickname after the media releases information that they relase radon when they dienote .
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Studies on the early Rodan carcasses indicate their tissues produce EMP pulses like an electric eel, they have no digestive or reproductive organs, and unlike practically all other organisms, seem to lack homeobox genes. They also appear to go through a form of metamorphosis that later generations will then be "born" with. Turns out, they simply appear out of the red dust that they both feed on and generate from their bodies.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The biggest one seen so far is put on the receiving end of one at the hands of Godzilla Terrestris, being shot out of the sky by a single atomic ring from the beast.
  • Expy: this Rodan is relatively small flying reptilian kaiju that congregates in swarms, whose appearance is harbinger of disaster, and can apparently attain a giant size comparable to the "main" kaiju. These are all traits more in common with Gyaos than previous Rodans.
  • If It Swims, It Flies: Appear from underwater before taking off into the air. They also have gill-like organs in addition to lungs. They appear to be able to swim almost as fast as they fly. This may be a reference to modern understandings of pterosaurs like Pteranodon, which are now thought to have caught prey while swimming.
  • Meaningful Name: Gives off radon, a radioactive element, when dead.
  • Metamorphosis Monster: The first-generation Rodans are enormous, with a single crest, bright red skin, blue patches on their beaks, and long tails. The second-generation Rodans are smaller, have two crests, red and black skin, and have Godzilla-like dorsal spines on their backs.
  • Shown Their Work: Like real pterosaurs, they take off by vaulting with their wings. Also, close shots show they have a thin covering of pycnofibres. It also has a head closer in shape, proportion, and size to modern understandings of pterosaurs.
  • The Swarm: They come in the number of hundreds, if not thousands.
  • Terror-dactyl: They are gigantic flying menaces as usual. They look far more pterosaur-like than the character has ever been, but they are still closer to pop culture pterosaurs than modern reconstructions with a few exceptions.note
  • Wild Card: It's hard to pin down just whose side the Rodans are on. They are either flying beside Godzilla or attacking him. Interestingly enough, Godzilla doesn't seems to mind killing them, suggesting they're independent with no alligance at all.

    Salunga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/800px_gsp_salunga_01.png
Demonic Monkey
A green simian kaiju imprisoned in a Archetype research facility in India.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Salunga is the strongest and most dangerous kaiju next to Godzilla, and arguably an even bigger threat than the King of the Monsters himself due to its greater intelligence and malice. In Episode 13, it actively tears up the SHIVA lab to get to the Singular Point and stop Mei and Pelops-2 from preventing the catastrophe.
  • Composite Character: Is essentially Gabara with the back-ridges, long ears and massive horn of Baragon. This resemblance was intentional according to the creators, though actually added in late into the design process.
  • Death Glare: At one point, Salunga gives a hateful look to Bearach Byrne, clearly showing its murderous intent against him.
  • Healing Factor: Once he gets free, he shrugged off his impalement like nothing happened and healed good as new, despite one going through his head through his jaw. The same thing happens when he breaks loose the second time.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: It got stabbed all over by frozen archetypes. It lived however. It happens again when he attacks India, but he breaks out of it even quicker and once more shrugs it off like nothing happened.
  • Implacable Man: So far, all attempts to contain or stop him have at best slowed him down or incapacitated him momentarily. This includes being impaled dozens of times from near every angle, including at least one through his head. Twice. The second time shows it didn't even seem to actually hurt him so much as physically restrain him, as he just casually walks away with several dozen crystalized spears still stuck in him like they're not even there.
  • It Can Think: Unlike Godzilla, who is portrayed more like a force of nature, Salunga displays clear signs of a malevolent intelligence.
  • Lightning Bruiser: In addition to its strength and near invulnerability, Salunga moves terrifyingly fast for its size.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Like Godzilla and Anguirus, he seems to be growing larger and stronger as time progresses, having grown to larger than buildings after escaping and having gained the ability to weaponize the red mist.
  • Maniac Monkeys: Salunga is an evil and intelligent creature whose body shape and movements resemble those of an ape.
  • Meaningful Name: Salunga's name contains Saru, a Japanese word for monkey, as well as being derived from Sharanga, the name of Visnu's celestial bow.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Salunga possesses blank white eyes.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: While most kaiju are more fragile than their typical counterparts, Salunga, like Godzilla, shrugs off military weapons like they're nothing and even his impalement only incapacitates him by physically restraining him rather than actually doing enough damage to take him out, and once he gets free he heals good as new in short order. The second time he starts walking and moving again with countless spikes still impaling him from all angles. As it trashes the same lab it broke out of in Episode 13, the building itself collapses, though it's unknown whether or not that actually did the beast in.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Salunga's kept in a massive containment facility but it's slowly making its way out.
  • Single Specimen Species: like Anguirus, there's only one Salunga as far as we're shown.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Salunga, Sarnga, Sharanga?

    Anguirus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/800px_gsp_anguirus_01.png
Precognitive Monster
An ankylosaur-like kaiju that is normally docile, unless provoked.
  • Adaptational Badass: The original Angurius never possessed the ability to see into the future.
  • Big Eater: Anguirus grows bigger as it eats, thus eats quite a lot.
  • Deflector Shield: By vibrating its spikes, Anguirus can create a Precognition shield which cause projectiles to bounce right off of its back.
  • Gentle Giant: It's actually very docile. The only reason it attacks is due to being provoked.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Twice. The first time merely stunned it for a bit but the next one is what finally ends it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: It is fast enough to catch up to a speeding truck despite towering over it.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Its rampage is ultimately a result of being provoked, otherwise it seems to be quite playful and pleasant whenever not provoked.
  • Single Specimen Species: The only kaiju in the series other than Salunga who appears a singular specimen rather than an entire species, since there have been at least two Godzillas... Probably.
  • Thanatos Gambit: As he can see the future, the humans theorize he knew he was going to die if he fought Jet Jaguar and allowed it for some reason. Given that Jet Jaguar would need the spear made from his horn in order to make it to his pre-destined location for the final battle with Godzilla, this was likely a case of Heroic Self Sacrifice.

    Manda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gsp_manda_01_10.png
Giant Marine Monster
Giant sea serpent kaiju that travel in packs.

    Kumonga
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/800px_gsp_kumonga_01.png
Erumpent Arachnid
Spider-like kaiju that come in swarms. Accompanied by three additional species called Kamanga (with bladed limbs), Hanenga (a flying species) and Zenbunga (a flying variant of Kamanga).
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: They are human-sized bugs that looks like a cross between beetles and spiders.
  • Composite Character: While retaining the name and form, Kumonga has several features belonging to Megalon like the latter's iconic drill hands while the Kamanga bears bladed forearms like that of either Gigan or Kamacuras. The blob like creature within Kumonga has the apperance of Hedorah but the relationship between them is akin to the relationship between the monsters and Yog from Space Amoeba.
  • Detachment Combat: Even if one of them is cut to bits, they'll still able to operate the limbs and attack.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: In addition to the aforementioned nods to Megalon, Gigan and Kamacuras, the bugs as a whole appear to be a cross between spiders, coconut crabs, and giant water bugs.
  • Shout-Out: The standard Kumonga's binomial name, Kumonga scytodes, is a simple switch of Scytodes kumonga, a species of spitting spider native to Iran and named after Kumonga.
  • Sinister Scythe: The Kamanga possesses blade-like front appendages.
  • This Is a Drill: The Kumongas sports two drills.
