Locked Pages: Lock, UnLock and Edit requests

Go To

This thread is for requesting edits or unlocks to Locked Pages or for requesting locks. It can also be used for technical requests to moderators such as:

  • creating new pages in the Main/ and other restricted namespaces without going through Trope Launch Pad
  • moving discussion pages
  • moving reviews

Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Check Locked Pages and Permanent Red Link Club first. They can provide guidance on what are good and bad requests.
  2. Include working links in your request to the page(s) in question.
  3. If asking for edits, state your changes exactly as they should appear on the page, including proper Example Indentation, namespacing, and pothole and quote formatting. And make sure that what you want to add is actually a valid example.
  4. We do not edit archived articles, even to correct links.
  5. If you need to have the capitalization of a page title or namespace of a work fixed, ask here.
  6. If you need to remove a ghost wick, go here.
  7. To request a page to be moved along with its history, go here.
  8. Some locked pages have ongoing cleanup threads, like Complete Monster (Thread), Five-Man Band (Thread), and Magnificent Bastard (Thread). Other than purely technical requests, edits to these pages ought to be discussed in these threads first.
  9. Also, we do not do direct edits (other than changing wicks) to Magnificent Bastard or Complete Monster example lists. Rather, you need to do the edit to a sandbox page that follows the format Sandbox.Magnificent Bastard<Name of the example subpage> and Sandbox.Monster<Name of the example subpage> (e.g for Monster.Disney it's Sandbox.Monster Disney) and ask for it to be swapped in on Saturday for Magnificent Bastard and on Monday for Complete Monster.
  10. Inappropriate pages that keep being recreated, pages banned under The Content Policy and subpages that are disallowed (like Headscratchers pages for tropes) are valid reasons for requesting page locks.

NOTE: Edited with OP's permission.

That has no effect at all on whether the heading should be changed.

I'd like to make an edit for Sex Slave. There isn't a Mythology section there, but that's where it should go:

  • Poor Odysseus had the misfortune of having this happen to him twice on his long voyage home, first to Circe (via Scarpia Ultimatum as part of the deal release his men who she had turned to swine) and later by Calypso. (In the second case, she tried to make him love her, but was still forcing him to be her lover against his will.) Both eventually let him go.

I'll agree with the second part, about Calypso. She was a demigoddess and sorceress, and could have helped him build a boat at any time, but didn't until Hermes popped down and said that Zeus and Athene said let him go, already.

Circe's a bit fuzzier depending on who you read and what translation it is.

An entry on the Deus Sex Machina page suggests it. (And Odysseus had help dealing with her too, from Athena.) Anyway, I'll change it:

  • This happened to Odysseus on the final phase of his journey home, courtesy of Calypso; she tried to make him love her, but was still forcing him to be her lover against his will eventually letting him go when it proved hopeless. It may have also been the case with Circe previously (depends on the version); if anything, he was forced to give in to a Scarpia Ultimatum as part of the deal release his men who she had turned to swine.

That better?

Did the YMMV.The Amazing Atheist edit as well as Sex Slave. I think the character names in the Complete Monster captions are pointless (the image illustrates a trope, not a person) but I'd like more discussion on them. Which page should I do the Xenoblade edit on?

I see that The Bible is still locked. I also see that separate trope pages have been created for several books, like Acts of the Apostles which I just added a trope to. Tropes that are listed in the individual books should not be listed on the main The Bible page, correct?

I'd be very grateful if you could make these changes to the Fifty Shades of Grey page.

Please add this trope:

  • Unreliable Narrator: The most prominent example is when, in first person present tense, Ana gives a detailed explanation of her surroundings and right afterwards claims that she doesn't get a chance to see what her surroundings look like.

Please move You Keep Using That Word to the place where the alphabetical sorting dictates it should go.

Thanks!

Gor:

  • Artifact Alias: In Tribesmen of Gor, Tarl's best friend of the book is an outlaw named Hassan, who is also semi-secretly Haroun, the High Pasha (leader) of the powerful Kavar desert tribe. The following dialogue is The Reveal that the two are the same person.

—>[I asked Haroun,] "By what name should I address you?"

—>"By the name, by which you know me best," he said.

—>"Excellent," said I, "Hassan."

Final Fantasy VII:

  • Absurdly Long Stairway: During the raid on the Shinra HQ, the "subtle" approach is to climb up the skyscraper's stairs. 59 floors of them, in fact.
  • Artifact Alias:
    • Red XIII joins you under his specimen code name from the Shinra research facility where you find him, and party members and the interface continue to use it even after his true name (Nanaki) is revealed.
    • Another example: Cait Sith continues to be called such by both the characters and the interface long after he is revealed to be remotely controlled by Reeve, a Shinra employee.

As per the RL section maintenance thread, please add the following to No Real Life Examples, Please!:

In the "Too common to trope" folder:

* FingerTenting

* ScaryShinyGlasses

In the "Sex tropes" folder: * QuestionableConsent

[edit]
And on another note, Dangerously Short Skirt, which is supposed to be about a stupidly short skirt on an Action Girl, is loaded with Zero Context Examples.

Because of how many there are, I ginned up a sandbox page which commented out the ZCEs, and outright removed a few entries as not being the trope whatsoever (failing on the Action Girl part of the trope, mentioned in the very first line of the description). Please replace the current page with Sandbox.Dangerously Short Skirt.

On Custom Wikiword Request, the last line says "Look up the the keyboard code and use that."

Please delete the first "the" in that sentence.

@ACW #1: Ah, so. Did the Xenoblade edit.

@gallium: Yes, The Bible should list only the work-wide tropes if each sub-book has a page.

@Michael Katsuro: Done.

@morenohijazo: I think I've got it.

@Mister Noh: Done and done. Cutlisted the sandbox, will cut it later.

@ACW #2: Moved one discussion, cutlisted the pages, locked the new ones and changed Monster.Anime And Manga accordingly.

@ACW #3: Done.

@crazysamaritan: Will repost in the bugs thread.

In Double Standard Rape: Female on Male, in the Married With Children entry could you remove:

(He'd later refer to what happened as "group sex", a slur on the woman's weight.)

As it isn't relevant to the trope.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!

In Double Standard Rape: Female on Male under Literature, please add the following:

Anita Blake: After Anita gains the Succubus power in book 10, she makes a regular habit of forcing male characters to have sex with her regardless of their objections. The fact that several characters explicitly told her no was ignored and she went through with the act anyway, while the one time that a character successfully refused her he, along with his wife and brother, was forced to flee the town in order to avoid being killed. Since she uses magic to accomplish her rapes, by the stated laws of the books it should earn her an automatic death sentence but she's completely unrepentant about it despite having killed other characters for similar behavior.

That sounds like a non-example; not even an aversion (remember, and aversion is when a work that you would expect to use the trope, because of its genre or type, doesn't, not simply any work that doesn't use it.) Unless Anita's rapes are treated lightly, humorously, or as somehow "less bad" than the the way the same thing happening with the sexes reversed is, it's not that trope.
