As of now, the top ten lots by highest bids (going by the conversion rate of ~$1.275 per 1000 gems, I will mark those going for less than retail price with an asterisk):
- 2014 Holiday Profile (385100 [$491], so you must be obscenely rich (or at the very least with a stable enough job) to bother going for it, especially since it's a cosmetic item anyways)
- Substance Indie Pack (63100 [$80.45*]; Holy crap! Although I suppose it's a bargain considering its status as development-related software)
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! (53300 [$67.96])
- ARMA 3 (40900 [$52.15*])
- Civilization: Beyond Earth (40700 [$51.89])
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (38700 [$49.34*])
- Dark Souls II (37100 [$47.30])
- Wasteland 2 (30100 [$38.38*])
- The Talos Principle (30100 [$38.38]; I'd mark it, except there's a slight promotion going on)
- Dungeon Defenders II (29100 [$37.10])
And apparently, the lowest high bid, although as cheap as chips with 700 ($0.89), is strangely unavailable in my region, although a couple (Fowl Space, Slamit Pinball Big Score) that are have 750 ($0.96). And the rest of the bottom go for 800 ($1.02)

I now go by Graf von Tirol.its like they dont understand the point of an auction is the buy for lower than the standard selling price rather than higher.
Yeah... although I did kind of expect that as in any other auction, lots can go higher than retailed. Also, I concur with the point. After all, the lot I went for didn't ask as much as retailed, and people still bid an equivalent of $12-$15 on it, though with the equivalent of $5.58, there still is a chance I'd be one of 100.
But yes, the fact remains that the one for the Winter background is just insane. RL pricing in the third digit and entrants in the fifth... it's nuts.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.I had suspicions the prices would skyrocket as soon as it was said that you can eliminate perfectly free and useless backgrounds for gems.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. And now the value has increased to around $1.30/1000 gems, and since there has been a bigger bid (in gems) on the background than last time, its equivalent is now around $534.56.
I now go by Graf von Tirol. Why not just give us the regular sales :(
Gaben, with your nose so bright, won't you give me sales tonight?
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clotheswe'll get them later. no need to worry about it.
chances are, they want the christmas sale to start closer to christmas.

-freaks out-
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesand the auctions end on the 18th. expect a sale on the 19th.
Actually, the sale is going to be on the 18th. IIRC, the last auction's going to be around 10 AM Pacific that day, kicking off the main event.

Midnight here in SEA...not great.
Give me cute or give me...something?So the sale will start tomorrow?
Huh. I can't really think of anything that I'd want, or at least anything that is likely to be on sale.
I actually did win something at the auction. Bring on tomorrow at 10 Pacific!
I now go by Graf von Tirol.I also won something at the auction: a copy of Scania Truck Driver Simulator.
Didn't participate in the auction myself...well, except for when Glenn give me a Gem to get 100xp from badge that is...but didn't actually try to get anything at all.
The price to craft a booster is...not cheap, too, so in the end I just ignore it...got my Masters exam to work with anyway. Shame, tho, really want 6180 the moon booster pack.
Also: no cross-region buying. Valve locked that down completely...seems like it has something to do with Ruble tailspin...

I now go by Graf von Tirol.Oooo excellent.
Say, there is a website with the listed prices of all games from steam that lists what is the lowest they go for, right?
As in, for example, they would say "This game has been in sale for as low as -80%". Just asking to see if the ones I want will eventually become daily deals or not
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesIn fact, there is. And here's something for comparing regional prices.
Oh, and for your browsers, be sure to install the Enhanced Steam extension for price comparisons and all that jazz.

to clarify where these people get the huge number of gems from, its probably because early on the sacks were sold at 3 pence per bag. a lot of people bought it back then.
hence why they have to many gems to shit away.
