"I'm watching this anime that I think is kind of neat, so I logged into one of my go-to forums to talk about it, but there wasn't a thread for it and I'm kind of embarrassed to make one. What should I do?

Asked by fillerdude, long-time troper"

"I would recommend pursuing more fruitful endeavors, such as, say, chemistry. It would be a waste to die ignorant of the rules that govern our world." — Rino

"It seems like his defining trait is hesitance. So I suggest creating a thread asking whether he should start up that thread." — Fumi

"He's thinking about it too much! Just go ahead and do it!" —Ikumi

And so I heeded Ikumi and made a thread for this cute slice-of-life show. Each skit usually starts with a question from a random student, to which science whiz Rino, humanities expert Fumi and super athlete Ikumi give their answers. Wildly varying answers.
Oddly I like Ikumi the most so far. There's something special about going in through a window, wearing a maid uniform, holding a birthday cake in one hand, and risking a panty shot so she can give her used tights as a birthday present.

I didn't even notice there was a thread for this one. And I've been writing so much about it for other purposes as well. Let's see if I've saved those.

Anyway, I like this series so far. The characters are moderately interesting, but their interactions are much better. And Rino's the character the closest to who I am that I've seen in all of fiction, I think. Well, she's horrible at anything involving athletics, but other than that, she's pretty much me.

Gonna edit this if I find what I wrote.

Edit: Right. Here we go. Long post ahead.

Episode 1. In which there's some sort of a club.

This season's edition of a random club doing random stuff.

That doll is somewhat familiar.

Cracker tower.

Saved!

For Science!! I kinda like her. Even if she's a bit of a jerk.

The Indecisive FarceClub. Sounds like a fun place to be.

Yeah. Water fight to decide something. It's about as reasonable as No Game No Life.

Pause. I think it might be a trap.

I wonder if a normal water balloon would actually be capable of be used with a sling. Considering the extra force, it's likely to break. Depends on how much you fill it, though.

Talking is not a free action.

I wonder if she can dodge rain?

Someone's upset about not being groped.

Well, Lake Baikal is famous for being clear. And she is mostly rather honest. She seems like she'd make a good tsundere.

I don't think it helps that he's about as awkward as she is. But honestly, talking and... communicating like that for the sake of doing it tends to not go very well.

"I like the rain." Okay, there's absolutely nothing wrong with her.

And I think Fumi's the one failing that conversation. She's not holding a conversation. She's stringing words together in coherent sentences. Rino's the one doing well. So to speak.

Okay, that's the girl who supposedly had trouble talking with boys. And now she's pretty much on a date with one. Talking normally with no concern. I think she'd stop if someone told her it looks like a date. I wonder if there are Date Peepers, considering how they conveniently failed to show up.

Episode 2. In which there's a birthday.

Those are... some weird ideas.

I agree with both of them. She's not strange for dismissing those personality tests, and being seen as strange shouldn't bother her.

Throwing up blood right in her face was what made the scene go from ridiculous to hilariously ridiculous.

Fishing for compliments is unbecoming. Well, she still looks good.

How can she not notice that there are two people under the table? They're loud and moving around a lot. And also, the fortune teller sucks.

That's some Rito skills to end up with his hands like that. Especially while moving them like that.

He didn't get punished at all for that. That's all kind of strange, actually. Sure, he didn't mean to do anything, but he still ended up doing a little more than what would be an accident. Either way, credit to Rino.

She's so good at writing apology letters. The last letter sounds like Rino wrote it. And Ikumi's English is so bad.

I wonder if Rino's going after the suspect figure because she wants to get it over with, because that's the last direction Ikumi wants to go, or because she's curious.

I don't really celebrate my birthday either.

I can't tell if Rino was horrified or excited over that potential gift... Well, she was happy about them, but returned them. That's surprisingly cute.

Episode 3. In which there's confidence.

She's a little bit of an oddball.

Why would that cause her to blush?

Call it a day after just one attempt?

Turning is a little harder.

Yeah, different people are encouraged by different ideas.

Mob characters are not pleased at being called that. Wonder why. I mean, at least she was polite enough to ask who they were.

And there we have the more standard harem crew. Just there for their fetishised personas. But I'm not seeing what the confusion about her expy being a guy is all about...

And that logic about destroying what someone works for to make them like you. Never fails to be stupid.

She speaks about her grandfather and boys' lack of safety so casually.

Immediate reaction to the suggestion he'd have a thing for her. And that side glance once at Fumi's place...

Special moves at certain rage levels.

Now that's interrupting only for the sake of jumping to conclusions. But at least he's reasonable enough to let himself be interrupted. And then he turns around completely and immediately accepts him as Fumi's future husband...

She's so smug after winning at RPS. Snip, snip.

She's somewhat aggressive. Kids don't tend to like aggressive older ladies.

Sometimes the weirdest ideas work. And they're surprisingly good at cooperating.

To be fair, she did actually not refuse. And she previously has shown that not knowing why something would be useful isn't the same as not wanting to do it at all.

Episode 4. In which there are a few perverts loose.

She's not late in taking advantage if she can. And the rest follow suit.

I like that they have those small cute moments together without making a big deal about them. And the Shipper on Deck just lets it be.

Actually getting to work while on a trip takes some serious diligentness.

On one hand, those are legitimate and working techniques for remembering stuff. On the other, she may be taking it a tad too far.

Someone's not good at looking angry.

He makes a convincing point. Even if it's somewhat surprising.

Ikumi works well as a pervert-enabler. Well, she is the biggest pervert there.

Totally the same discussion they're having. And he's actually kind of forward about it considering how he's shown to be earlier.

What's the logic of associating those boobs with anything newborn? It just doesn't compute.

Probably one of the most obvious Ranma ½ references I've seen in a while.

I wouldn't be so close to a water melon someone's supposed to hit with a hard stick.

To be fair to him, if someone trips at you like that, it is a natural reactions to put your hands up. To be fair to her, he really should've figured out a better way to react the second time. To be more fair to him, she didn't really give him any opportunity to think about it.

Well, didn't take her long to get over it.

A masochist and a sadist do make for a good couple. I'm just not sure this is the case here.

Him, the most mob-like character? He's the main character. Stuff happens to him.

Yeah, he'd better make sure no one else abuses it.

Well, by now, he should be familiar with how Rino's boobs feel. And what he wants to happen is something that's far more likely to happen by accident than if he tries to force it.

Episode 5. In which there are questions and jokes.

Sleepy people are cute.

I get the feeling he's right about his feeling about Ikumi.

First, those three girls are surprised by the additional rule, then them and Asano are surprised when Ayaka finds it a great idea. Personally I'm not particularly surprised, but it's still funny.

Totally the same guy.

That's some confidence coming from you, Rino.

I'm rather split on whether I want Rino to win or lose. Both definitely have their advantages.

A family grave for a date? It would be hard to think about something worse.

"So you're into intellectuals?" Is that actually a secret or not at all obvious?

And then jumping straight to a love hotel? That kind of leaves out the whole dating bit...

"I wouldn't be caught dead in such a place," is probably the best argument so far. She's a girl, and the question was about where to take a girl.

Rino, master of otherwise irrelevant details.

Good plan, Asano, but it kind of hinges on you picking competent allies.

Two bickering contestants bicker.

I have a feeling Rino would be more comfortable answering the second question, although I'm not sure she wouldn't be too out of touch with more average people to give a good answer. Would probably still be a credible answer, though.

Two bickering contestants still bicker.

He seriously expected Ikumi to not lose that one?

The third question is one either Ikumi or Fumi would be able to give a good answer to.

Fumi's not looking happy. That can only end well.

Nice to subtly break the fourth wall.

A blonde, busty girl defeats someone by removing his will to fight. Seems familiar.

By the way, I like that when you consider who won what battle in the competition, the only legit person in Asano's team was the only one who won hers.

Pop.

I think Rino deserves a win for that joke of a paper she put in the box.

Ayaka doesn't play by the rules. Rino catches on a little quicker than the rest.

Episode 6. In which there's a tailing investigation.

Aww, the Medaka Box was burning.

I've always liked her enthusiasm.

I think it would help if you actually matched the lines and grids when restructing the letters. Plural.

And they treast that letter completely serious, nonesense and all.

I think Rino's interpretation was awfully close. For the common use of the word, anyway.

Rino spots a challenge. Rino gets fired up. Well, there are at least two more competetive girls in the club.

Good at spotting detail. Not quite sure she's as good at interpreting them.

Bonus points to Ikumi. But I'm not quite sure for what would be the most appropriate.

Cover girl looks familiar.

To be fair, she is a pervert.

Didn't they already cover enough H?

That's some work damage... At least they had the courtesy to look embarrassed about it at the shrine.

I don't think Fumi's voiceover is all that accurate. But it's funny.

Cool bike.

Random OP.

Clever way of talking around Ikumi. Well, it's probably not all that hard.

I think his definition of pervert may be somewhat non-standard. And she buys the whole hog. But why would he need to go there to take photos you can take from outside?

Yeah, she's a pervert all right.

Episode 7. In which there's a hero.

Koganen, the shopping district advertisement hero.

Those ice-breakers are either inappropriate, disgusting, insane, or two of the previous. And it took Fumi down.

Of course she's got no problem with it.

He doesn't quite live up to Ikumi's hype. Not to the other three students' expectations.

Please wait warmly. Girls are shopping. I like how Rino thinks about how probable it is stuff is conidered cute or pretty. How to be girly while still being a nerd.

He's not very confident about their own ice-breakers.

She want to be the Damsel in Distress?

Nice training. I'd say it's Training from Hell, but it's not even actual training.

That massage, is surprisingly legit, on the other hand.

Hello, Kei Grant speaking.

Sparkly and smooth.

How did she see the bottom of it while looking at the top?

That sense of smell defies logic more than physics.

He sure picked up those pressure points.

I think she wants to triple bond with him herself, but I might just be speculating there.

SCIENCE has the best ideas. Humanities comes close and I like her repeating crossbow idea too. In the end, Game of Life does sound fun and it is fitting.

More proof that SCIENCE is best. Where I come from though, it is accounting that shows that money, family and whatever gods you believe in will abandon you.

Episode 8. In which there are mysterious not so new characters.

Ayaka sometimes appreciates normality. This is not one of those times. She also likes being ominous.

Doesn't deserve a response, but deserves an analysis of why it doesn't deserve a response. I knew there was a reason I liked her. Well, of many reasons.

You can't do science without getting a little dangerous. Another reason. Although I would wonder about the legality of making tear gas or flame throwers.

That's a large scroll she could fit there. A bit Senran Kagura over it.

There's a God of Mind Maps?

Please watch warmly. Girls are reading scrolls.

I think most of the time, following a middle road between Rino and Fumi would probably yield the best results, and ignore about 85.7% of what Ikumi's suggesting. Unless she's plainly motivating. That she can do. Unless she goes too far, which, to be fair, is quite likely.

I approve of that wedding Imagine Spot.

Yeah, let's add more drama and despair into it. That'll make it more realistic.

That's a rather prominent Verbal Tic he's got there.

I like how they're trying to hide her face when she's quite clearly shown in the OP.

Principal Jigokudani seems like a lovely lady.

They have somewhat different drawing styles. I like Rino's though.

I was just going to say that someone asking for advice in how to talk with people should probably not take advice from Rino. And then they throw her into the same corner as the writer of the request.

Okay, agree with Ikumi on that compliment. The first one.

I think they skipped one person. Would be more interesting to have Rino try to compliment Yuuki.

Doesn't take long to go off rails.

Ah, there she is. Been waiting for her to appear again. And she's just as weird as the rest of them put together. I like her.

Episode 9. In which saying "Rino is cute" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Occult Research Club? I hope the president is red. Rino's going to have the work cut out for her.

No surprise whose suggestion she picked without thinking.

I wonder how long she ranted. Kinda funny addition to the end, though. Which shows she's probably not as biased as she might seem, and open to proof to the contrary of her beliefs.

Fumi's no slouch either. They're sure passionate about their passions.

Intractable is a good word for her.

Cute, not annoying. Also, she prioritises compliments over insults. I knew there was a reason I liked her. Well, of many reasons.

Honestly, I'm not sure I'd bet on Rino. As intractable she is, she can be a bit gullible at times, especially while flustered. And she flusters easily.

And as soon as the competition is revealed, Yuuki doesn't want Rino to win. Can't say I blame him.

Oh, that story. And Rino spins her science into it. Wonderful. :)

They're so honest to that question. Hopelessly inept at some topics, that girl.

I wonder what she said. And no one else heard it, probably.

Trying to be an role model, eh, Ikumi?

Sure like saying "sigh".

Can't imagine why she'd be embarrassed about that pic.

"Because it's not nude?" Some people live in their own worlds. And Rino's also been in her own the entire time.

I wonder how they got all those boxes into there.

She's a little bit different while in the zone. Just a little.

How are her arms also stuck?

Whyever would he apologise to Rino of all people, and whyever would she grit her teeth?

"She suspects that..." With that sideways glance, I suspect she's right.

So that's what she said.
