It's a neat idea in concept, but in practice that size makes several of them very hard to make out, especially the Abbey Road and Kickass Pose pics. If it's possible to do so, I think a table on the Image Links page with a 4-column setup would work best. I'm thinking pic - trope - pic - trope with the pics at 75x75 or even 100x100...that would be enough for small details to be seen.
A bit small, but passable. Showing the poses in questieadon should really improve the reading of the page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAss-Kicking Pose I'd like to find another image for because at any avatar-or-smaller size I think it'll be hard, but a GIS isn't giving anything. The Abbey Road Crossing pic can't really be swapped, though.
I've left the first eight as they were (50x50 icons in a single column). There are then four at 75x75 (cropping the Captain Morgan Pose to a square lost his foot so I chose another image) and three at 100x100, both with two tropes per row. I think 75 works fine but 100 is too large (though it might work on an IL page). Below is the road crossing at 75, where it is slightly clearer.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I think 50 is enough. 75 could work in a pinch, but I don't see it as necessary.
More importantly, I really don't like looking through a list that goes in a normal reading pattern (two columns sorted left-right, then down). It defeats the purpose of a vertical list to me. Also, that way any additions/deletions would have to restructure all following tropes, or create a gap with only one.

Check out my fanfiction!Unless someone's using a fairly small monitor/laptop, there shouldn't be any width issues with having the 100x100 pics.
Agree, silhouette is better.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe silhouette looks good.
Ducky: Yeah, single column is my preference.
Willbyr: I don't see it as a width issue; I see it as wanting small images because they look better in a list like that (with writing next to them). 50 doesn't work for them all, but 75 should be good and there's still less white space than at 100.
Willthiswork: That's excellent.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Fair point. If we can get pics that look good at 75 square, fine and dandy.
I've done as many as I can; the ones that remain are listed at the top of the sandbox. The current icons are fine at 75, and no way am I going through the whole thing to make them something else again! In addition, I think the following ones may need to be swapped:
- Team Shot: Fairly dark, and the crop means it overlaps with the V-Formation Team Shot. Something more interesting than everyone standing straight would be good.
- Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You: Even on the full-size poster the gun isn't very clear. A GIS didn't turn up an un-watermarked stock photo to use, though.
- Prayer Pose: Her expression makes it look conspiratol rather than holy. Again, a stock photo would work.
- Coat Over Shoulder: Dead boring. The page image would be better but cropping it to a square wasn't going to happen as easily as for some.
- Ass-Kicking Pose: It works. Just. A more distinctive image would be great.
Got something in mind for Connery. Was gonna show but I don't how links work on Tropes. I keep getting knocked back.
Edit: Uploaded and in place. See what you think.

Are you getting a "new accounts can't post external links" message or a "no hotlinking please" message? If the former: Post the link on the discussion page for the trope, where the message won't show up. If the latter: Surround the link with [[ ]] so that it doesn't try to embed the image.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. This is what I used. (I hope) [1]◊
I think Sean Connery Is About to Shoot You is fine, but just for the sake of it, here's an alternative. (I apologize for the extra-large mouth of the subject, however.)

Moon◊Lolz aside I reckon that might be distracting. (CAN'T UNSEE...)
Edit: Uploaded a "Slouch of Villainy" image. Can't go wrong with Bowser! (From Super Mario Galaxy 2, so brand new image. The image quality was dull but you can't tell at all from the size!)

New updates from me.
- Versus Character Splash: Soul Calibur 2. Cropped but you get the idea.
- (New)Team Shot: From Chrono Trigger, it's small but identifiable despite my initial worries. Bit fresher than the previous image too. (Plus, they all fit quite nicely!)
- Sgt Peppers Shout Out: Simpsons parody. Less detail, more colour than the original. Maybe that'd work.
- Pose of Silence: Found a pretty good image. Never seen the Godfather (or its sequels myself) but when I Googled "whisper" this was among the images I got. (Unless I pictured wrong... which I might have done)

& There aren't any links in your above posts, bellboy, just text. And the only link that you've posted in this conversation is #15◊.
If you want to experiment with posts, the forum sandbox is here.
EDIT: Oh, ok.

I wasn't trying to post links... I waas just letting people know of the changes I'd made to the Sandbox page.
More goodies! In order...
- Blasting Time: Goku's Spirit Bomb seemed like the best example
- Hoist Hero Over Head: Resized page image. Readers ought to be able to put two and two with the image and description together.
- Last Supper Steal: Touch brighter than the page image. Didn't try to include all, just some. It's enough to get the point across I feel but I'm willing to be countered.
- Off Like a Shot: Exit stage right!
- Yeah Shot: "Teenagers with attitude", my foot!
Check 'em out if interested.
I think yeah shot could use a simple contrast boost. I am not likeing team shot either, it looks like a blur to me at that size. Something more like a comic book cover where the color contrast more? IDK, just my opinion.
Everything else looks good to me.

Yeah, I see what you mean about the Team Shot but I'm pretty satisfied with it myself. It's a bit of Catch-22 of sorts because they ALL look blurry at that size and some of the poses don't allow you to be neat about it.
The Chrono Trigger one is as big as I could make it while encasulating what it is. The scenery frames the pose best in my opinion, as while you can't make out everyone without really looking for them you can make out enough to get the point across I feel. It's busy but it's bold. To me at least.
If you want to give yours a try, go right ahead if need be we'll take a vote on it or something. I've got a copy of the CT one in case it's needed again. You know how I feel but it might not reflect everyone's opinion and I'm alright to be "overruled".
As for the Yeah Shot, I disagree. If the contrast was any richer it would blend together I feel. The fact that the characters aren't as bold as the set are in it's favour in my opinion.

I was thinking the image from Big "YES!" might work for "YEAH!" Shot, but I dunno; does that trope require multiple people?
Moon◊I'll be going through and giving my thoughts on the images others have proposed. Let's see...
- Blasting Time: I like that one.
- Hoist Hero over Head: Better than nothing, but a less busy image would be very good.
- "Last Supper" Steal: I don't think this one works; the entire sides are cropped off, and they're rather necessary.
- Off Like a Shot: Good.
- Pose of Silence: Okay.
- Sean Connery Etc: Very good and clear. 16 is also nice.
- Sgt. Pepper's Shout-Out: The Simpsons one may be okay or we may just want to use the original anyway. I don't mind
- Slouch of Villainy: Doesn't look like a slouch to me, but shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement for.
- Versus Character Splash: Excellent.
- "YEAH!" Shot: Still blurred but better than nothing. Willthiswork, it'd be good if you could make another silhouette image.
This was proposed by bellboy on the discussion page, and I think it's a cool idea. Can we put a thumbnail image next to all the tropes? It gives a quick summation of it, meaning people don't have to click through them all, and it just makes it more interesting.
I've started by trying out 50x50 images on Sandbox.Stock Poses, using tables to format it and cropping/resizing page images. In a couple cases (Badass Arm-Fold, Atop a Mountain of Corpses), I've done a different image than was on the page because I think it's clearer (I think that also needs to be done for Ass-Kicking Pose). Please say if you think it's a good idea, and if so, do help out with images.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.
