The problem is that the trope is heavily misused. A large chuck of the wicks are neither a) female, nor b) party girls. A large chunk of the female examples seem to just be "woman who is drunk a lot" no matter if she fits the rest of the trope or not.

FWIW my Guess That Trope would have been something about hair coloring, like "bottle blonde".

[up] [up] possibly a lack of context or generalization. I see that a lot. Not all tropes have a checklist that proves its correct to the letter. If the trope didn't have so much use I'd be ambivalent to the rename but over 700 wicks and over 700 inbounds is nothing to sneeze at. That being said, I do like Liquor Lass as a name.

That is an equally vague name. Drunk Party Girl is the trope here. Admittedly, not the best name, but the vague idea that we should be looking for in a name.

I checked the thread and I'm not seeing a wick check here with misuse. Is it linked to somewhere, I'm failing at finding it.

Yeah, I have most of one done on my home PC but I wound up in Nashville without warning. The results are bad, but I don't have them here to give you or I'd post it in. I get home on Sunday. I'll try to post it then if I'm not too dead or work on recreating it.

[up][up]For some reason, I'm imaginging this to be somewhat like the time I went to Chicago, but my luggage wound up in Little Rock, AR. Poor Shima, stuck on the luggage rack, forever waiting to get picked up.

[up]Eh, I'd avoid trying to shove alliteration in there, particularly as the "party girl" portion kind of prevents true alliteration anyhow.

Also, to be honest, I don't know just how widespread any given slang term for "drunk" is, let alone to what degree any of them apply (I would take "plastered" to indicate someone one drink shy of passing out). Keeping it more generalized works for me.

My understanding is that the character is not merely drunk, but bacchanalian, friendly, and down-to-earth.

Happy Drunk Girl?

Anyway, I started a crowner and hollered to the mods, but they haven't attached it to this thread yet. What am I doing wrong?

A holler isn't an instant response. Also, no wick check visible here and did you link the crowner in the holler?

You have to link the crowner so they can find it. Also, maybe they are too busy to respond right away. And, given the previous thread on the matter, I really don't think I can vote unless I see a wick check, which Shima has stated she has done, but can't post right now. So, I'd rather wait.

I'm torn as to what we should do for the trope, arguments for renaming it and the one against it are both good. But regardless of what we do, we absolutely need a "fairy in a bottle" trope. I made a YKTTW for it now too. Here.

I created Can Of Sprite as a redirect for Fairy Companion; if literal fairies in bottles get launched, it should inherit that redirect.

Are we gonna let this thread go stale and die? A few people said they were doing wick checks but they didn't really show any results. I will do wick check of 150 soon and will post my results.

Understandable. I'm also drained like a prune by this crisis. Results will be posted as I go whenever I have the time.

Already for today's wick check: Posting as I go along.

Reduced to 50 wicks a more workable amount. BF has 744 wicks.

Correct use (Judging from description) 9 wicks

Giddy, exuberant and often immature female alcoholic, who is sometimes a Cool Big Sis, Adult Child or The Tease to the younger cast.

Misused for male

Misused for The Lad-ette 2 wicks

Misused for anyone that likes to drink a lot, has been drunk once and does not have any traits associated with Bottle Fairy. 18 wicks

Zero Context Examples and unclear 21 wicks

Conclusion:

shima is right, people are not really misusing this trope for the anime or bottled fairies but for The Alcoholic, The Lad-ette,anybody who happens to drink alcohol, and people who party a lot but are not mentioned in the example to drink a lot or even drink at all. Unless we want the trope to decay further into "anybody who drinks ever" I think a rename is in order. I also find it odd that we do not have a Party Animal trope. We really need that trope.

I'm not arguing against a rename, per se, but is this really a name problem? It seems to me Bottle Fairy means nothing other than the trope; I don't think it's a problem of people ignoring the description and guessing based on the name so much as skimming the description and correctly using what they (erroneously) remember it as being.

Yeah, this doesn't look like a name problem here.
