Meduca Meguca: The Animation is an Abridged Series of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It takes its name from the memetic Off-Model comics based on the series. It's made by The Mahou Troupe.

The series was on hiatus for several months due to real-life complications in the lives of the cast, as well as copyright difficulties regarding hosting the episodes on Youtube, eventually being Uncancelled. Although due to financial issues the series is cancelled.

Relevant tropes:

• Adaptational Intelligence: In this version, Gertrud and Charlotte are capable of speaking, albeit with little dialogue. Most of Gertrud's is "Oh no, you’d didn't", and Charlotte can only say "Candy!" and "I love you!". Downplayed with Elly, who doesn’t speak.
• A Hell of a Time: Where the H.N. Elly-induced suicide cult in Episode 4 believes they are going.
• Affectionate Parody: The members of the Mahou Troupe seem to be fans of the original series, hence why they're abridging it.
• The Alcoholic: Mami, if the facts that she was more worried about scoring booze than living after her car crash and that she sold her soul to Kyubey for booze are any indication.
  • Likely Junko as well, given Madoka's first conclusion from her Episode 1 ramblings was that she was brushing her teeth with alcohol again and she was definitely drunk in Episode 3 after returning home from watch the Sex and the City movie.
• Alpha Bitch: Hitomi has shades of this, by way of Alternative Character Interpretation:
  Hitomi: (to Madoka and Sayaka) I'm off to a popular party. I'm out, nerds.
• Ambiguously Bi: Sayaka. She keeps trying to get into Kyousuke's pants, but loves attention to/from girls as well.
• Abomination Accusation Attack: Starting in Episode 2, Madoka begins questioning the details about the whole magical girl schtick. Mami responds by accusing Madoka of smoking, with Sayaka going along with it for whatever reason. In Episode 3, Kyubey joins in and Madoka starts being accused of shooting up heroin (among other things).
• The Ace: Mami even lampshades it in the second episode.
  Mami: Hi, I'm Mami.
  (cue Mami using Unlimited Musket Works)
  Mami: I'm awesome and I kick ass and I'm probably better than you at everything.
• Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Madoka and Sayaka both have shades of this. An example from Madoka is from Episode 3, when the two are walking past bike racks:
  You know, when I was young I've never had a bike before. It kind of scarred me as a child, not having a bike- OH LOOK, BIKES!
• Berserk Button: Kyousuke hates classical music since his parents forced him to learn the violin, instead of letting him become an Idol Singer.
• Blood Knight: Mami finds fighting even more invigorating than drag racing ever was.
• Breathless Non Sequitur: Both Kyubey and Homura use this tactic to get away with saying disturbing things.
• Butt-Monkey: Poor Madoka. Whenever she tries to point out fishy things about the Puella Magi system, someone will always accuse her of doing drugs for absolutely no reason. This also extends to other occasions where she makes a valid point (trying to point out that the show is marketed towards men because of the Yuri undertones immediately gets her branded as a homophobe).
• Catchphrase:
  Homura (mainly in the first episode): No one understands my pain.
  Also Homura, when someone asks her to change her theme song: But I fucking loooooove X! (where X is completely unrelated to her theme song.)
  Madoka: I am so done.
• Chewbacca Defense: "You know Madoka, second hand smoke kills. It's a disgusting habit."
• Chick Magnet: Madoka, despite being (or maybe because she's) a girl.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Sayaka seems to be this towards Kyosuke:
  Sayaka: I love you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  Kyosuke: It's not my birthday.
  Sayaka: I know, I know, it's your sister's birthday, but I felt that we should celebrate it anyway, because why the hell not.
  Kyosuke: But I don't have a sister.
  Sayaka: But I saw you walking with a girl before you fucked up your wrist. She was your sister, right? She was your sister. Your sister. Yes?
• Cluster F-Bomb: Madoka drops a fast one as she escapes from the suicide cultists in Episode 4.
• Comedic Sociopathy: Not surprising given it's an Abridged Series. A good example is at the beginning of Episode 2 when Madoka and Sayaka go to Mami's place:
  Madoka: How the hell can you afford your own apartment when you're only in high school?
  Mami: (nonchalantly) I set a rich man on fire.
  Madoka: Oh, OK.
• Comically Missing the Point: Madoka thinks H.N. Elly's Kiss on Hitomi's neck is a hickey.
• Confession Cam: Introduced in Episode 4 for each character present in the story at that point. This includes a headless Mami, who has to resort to Talking with Signs.
• Conveniently an Orphan: Lampshaded by Madoka in Episode 4 regarding Mami's fate and the fact that there won't be any close relatives or friends who don't know the truth looking for her, making it easy plot-wise to kill her off.
• Covert Pervert: Kyousuke, apparently, if listening to Fifty Shades of Grey on CD is any indication.
• "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: In Episode 2 Madoka asks Junko what she'd wish for if she could wish for anything. "I'd wish away entropy." Yeah... that does seem to cover all the bases, doesn't it?
• Curse Cut Short: Anytime "motherfucker" is used as an exclamation of anger or other outburst of emotion. Mami has used it to refer to specific characters, so hers are left alone.
• Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: Madoka's crying keeps interrupting Kyoko's Take That, Audience! rant at the end of Episode 3, so much so that she threatens to force-feed her glass and throw her under a bus.
• Death Glare: Mami throws one Madoka's way every time she has the gall to question the finer points of being a Magical Girl. A Chewbacca Defense is always close behind.
• Don't Try This at Home: The scene in Episode 4 of the original series where Junko teaches Madoka never to mix ammonia and bleach is flipped on its head here by having Junko teach it as an awesome way to give one's enemies a horribly gruesome death. It is immediately followed by an unreadably fast disclaimer read by the narrator:
  We here at the Mahou Troupe strongly discourage you from actually using this method to bring an end to all your enemies, and encourage you to seek out more constructive forms of problem solving. Like talking to an adult. Or therapy. Yes, even if the enemies in question actually bought the Xbox One.
• Driving Stick: Mami can (she used to drag race until her Ferrari got totaled). Homura can't (to put it mildly). Kyoko says she can but the scene is over (to her consternation) before she can elaborate.
• Dysfunction Junction: Let's see...Mami is a Blood Knight who has Skewed Priorities (she was more concerned about getting booze than dying in the backstory behind her wish), Sayaka is an obsessive Stalker with a Crush towards Kyosuke, Homura is an Emo with a tendency to Freudian Slip, and Kyoko has anger issues from being a former member of Angry Bitches Anonymous. And while Madoka is the closest thing to an Only Sane Man who actually has suspicions about the whole Magical Girl deal, even she has her Not So Above It All tendencies.
• Emo: Homura, especially in her introduction to Madoka's class in Episode 1. Even her theme music is the opening few measures of "Crawling" by Linkin Park.
• Enraged by Idiocy: Mami refuses to be friends with Homura because the latter is totally clueless about standard shifts.
• Even the Subtitler Is Stumped: about what Junko is rambling about as she and Madoka are brushing their teeth.
  Madoka: Mom, are you brushing your teeth with alcohol again?
  • Word of God says it's Sex and the City.
• A Fate Worse Than Death: Madoka and Sayaka are shocked that Mami chooses to save the suicidal woman because she has no Internet access. Life is not worth living without Internet access. Mami tells them to shut up because her parents are dead and she has no Internet access, either. They still seem to see it as a good deed, though the woman disagrees when she wakes up.
• Felony Misdemeanor: The suicidal woman in the second episode jumps off a building because she has no Internet access.
  • Madoka mistakes being pulled into H.N. Elly's barrier as Hell, but remains calm and notes that "Hell" is different than what she imagined it would be. Then "What Makes You Beautiful" starts up and Madoka completely loses it.
• Flat "What": Homura pulls one in the first episode, when she asks Madoka if she values her life and Madoka's response is a casual "Not really."
  • Madoka several times when other charaters insinuate she's smoking/doing drugs right in front of them when she clearly isn't.
• Freezeframe Bonus: If you look closely at the board in Episode 4, when a diagram of Mami's decapitation appears, you can see - just below Mami - a thumbs-up symbol drawn in purple, signed "H".
  • And it has Sayaka's signature on it.
• Greek Chorus: Kyoko's post-episode ranting ends up being this, even after Kyoko gets introduced in the main story. Mami's head joins for Episode 4.
• HEADDESK: When discussing what makes Madoka such a chick-magnet, Sayaka does this when she suggests pigtails, and realises her hair is too short for pigtails.
• Hopeless Suitor: Sayaka to Kyousuke, causing Mami to comment that "That boy is as straight as a winding road sign..."
• Idol Singer: Kyousuke was forced into playing violin by his parents. His real dream is being... an UtaPri.
• I'm Standing Right Here: Hitomi, when Sayaka and Madoka employ a Stage Whisper to tell the audience that only they can see Kyuubey. Hitomi (referred to as "that dumb bitch") is not amused.
• In-Universe Factoid Failure: Sayaka compares Kyousuke and herself to Romeo and Juliet, saying, "Everyone knows those kids turned out fine."
• Incredibly Lame Pun: When Sayaka and Madoka first discover telepathy, Kyubey calls them "my hos". The thing is, he could also have been saying the word "Mahous" which is part of the Japanese word for "Magical Girl".
  • All those head-related puns in Episode 3. Mami and Sayaka roll off a bunch of them at the beginning of the episode and pepper more throughout, even after Mami bites it after being bitten. Madoka doesn't understand where they came from all of a sudden.
    • Late to the Punchline: Madoka finally got the head jokes by Episode 4. Unfortunately, this was after Episode 3.
• Laser-Guided Karma: Homura views Mami being decapitated and eaten as payback for "The Bondage Incident".
• Lemony Narrator: The narrator for the episodes is rather snarky, especially when it comes to characters in-story doing the job for her.
• Locked Out of the Loop: Madoka is the only one who doesn't get why does everybody keep making head puns about Mami. Including Mami herself.
• Meta Girl: Madoka spends the first part of the second episode lampshading Mami's costume and later asks several questions about the nature of magical girls that cannot be answered without revealing any spoiler, like "Why is it called a Soul Gem?", "What happens if the Soul Gem isn't shiny anymore?" and "Why do we need Grief Seeds?" Mami's response is to accuse Madoka of smoking/taking drugs.
• No More For Us: Sayaka after she and Madoka stumble into Gertrud's labyrinth: "That's it, Madoka. As of right now, we swear off the Doritos - deal?"
• Oh Crap! There Are Going To Be Fanfics Of Us: En route to fighting Charlotte, Mami breaks down in front of Madoka because she realizes that as a result of their brief but extensive interaction during that part of Episode 3, fanfics of them doing it will start showing up on the Internet about ten minutes after the scene in question. She then proclaims herself ready to break shit like nothing happened.
• Only Sane Girl: Madoka.
• The Other Darrin: Mami's voice actor is replaced in the second episode.
• Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: A few.
  • Episode 2, Mami: They're called rifled muskets, motherfucker.
  • Episode 3, Mami: Time to blow the animation budget.
  • Episode 4, Sayaka: Time for the A-B-Cs of Justice!
• Reading the Stage Directions Out Loud: Homura begins all her lines in her conversation with Madoka during their walk in Episode 4 by literally stating what mood she's supposed to be in (example: "Ironically, Gee, that sounds familiar.") while keeping her usual monotone.
• Running Gag:
  • Homura needing to change her theme music from Linkin Park's "Crawling", and her continually refusing because she fucking loves [Kelly Clarkson/Céline Dion/Fast and the Furious]!
  • Kyoko complaining about her lack of screen time at the end of each episode.
  • The narrator saying "Suddenly, (thing here)!" or "And now, (thing here)!" Examples include "Suddenly, lesbians!" in Episode 1, and "And now, for more boobs!" in Episode 2.
  • "Motherfucker" being cut short, unless Mami uses it.
  • Madoka's and Sayaka's attraction to candy.
  • Every time Madoka tries to point out/question the nature of Soul Gems, the others present cut her off by expressing disgust over her smoking habit. Madoka is perplexed.
• Sassy Black Girl: Gertrud, apparently.
• Seinfeldian Conversation: Madoka and Sayaka have a short one about thumbs in Episode 4.
• Seme: Kyouko considers herself the seme in every pairing that includes her.
  Kyoko: Go ahead, put me with a man. I'll whoop his ass.
• Shout-Out:
  • In Episode 3, Mami and Homura have a discussion about the PRNDL.
  • Mami appearing in random pictures she wasn't really in during the montage at the end of Episode 3 is quite similar to a famous Tumblr blog called Rude Rapunzel, where a photo of a singing Rapunzel from Tangled appears in various scenes from Disney movies.
  • The two nurses talking about Sayaka in Episode 4 speak in a robotic monotone akin to GLaDOS. Later on, a Witch-kissed raving Hitomi goes rambling on about burning to death where "they will be baked, and there will be cake."
  Madoka on Confession Cam: "Baked" is right.
  • Madoka on Confession Cam regarding her apparent lack of Heroic BSoD over seeing Mami getting decapitated: "I'm not heartless, I'm just drawn that way."
  • Madoka encounters a Witch-kissed Hitomi and asks whether she's going to the Ministry of Silly Walks.
  • Upon seeing Sayaka's Magical Girl outfit, Madoka thinks the cape is a bad idea. I mean, what if it gets caught in something?
  • Mami (breaking down into tears at the start of episode 3) "I just have a lot of feelings..."
• Small Name, Big Ego: Madoka appears to be this regarding her DeviantArt account. Probably a Take That! regarding certain members of that community.
  Madoka: Why can I never get any comments on DeviantArt? No one seems to notice my amazing artwork and all its deep complexities. These pictures represent the truth of my whole being, and a reflection of the universe!
  Kyubey (slowly): I think it's because you suck.
  Madoka: ...Oh.
• Soundtrack Dissonance: After the second episode was taken down due to copyright issues regarding the theme song, the team announced that the opening theme in every episode that gets taken down in the future will be replaced with smooth contemporary jazz. Since they didn't change the opening's animation at all, it fits about as well as you'd expect.
• Stalker with a Crush: Homura towards Madoka.
  • Kyoko seems to be the same way towards Sayaka in some of the promo videos.
  • Sayaka towards Kyosuke - he's changed rooms several times (by Episode 4, it's literally up to eleven) because Sayaka keeps showing up and has no idea who she is. Also, she observes him through binoculars from the casino across from the hospital.
• Suddenly Shouting: Madoka and Mami end up doing this after another round of drug-use accusations in Charlotte's labyrinth.
  • The narrator gets in on it too:
  "And now for ART!!"
• Suspiciously Specific Denial: In Episode 4, Madoka denies having been traumatized by Mami being Mogu-Mogu'd in the previous episode multiple times on Confession Cam rather apropos of nothing.
  • Combined with a Freudian Slip in episode 2:
  Sayaka: (On Kyubey) I say we should listen to the totally evil- er, no I'm sorry - totally not evil; he is not evil, or suspicious, at all - alien space ferret.
  • Homura "I'm not writing a doujinshi of me and you [Madoka] getting it on..." Akemi is prone to this.
• Take That, Audience!: After the end of Episode 3 proper, Madoka (who is voiced by the main driver of the whole project Chiikaboom) comes out and tries to explain why each episode has taken so long to come out, only to be driven to tears by impatient fans and their complaints. Kyouko then bursts in and delivers a major tongue-lashing at said fans, noting the amount of time and effort needed on Director Chii's part for something that earns no money.
• That Came Out Wrong:
  Sayaka (to Homura): Don't make me get my fire extinguisher, because I will blow you!...with-with the fire extinguisher. That-that came out wrong.
  • There's also whoever texted "I want to be your knight in shining armpit" to Hitomi in Episode 1.
• Theme Music Emo Up: Homura's theme music finally advances to the second set of measures of Linkin Park's "Crawling" when Madoka says she'll never forget Homura in Episode 4. Fans who already know the original source material will understand why.
• This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!:
  Mami: There's no better way to end the day than blowing up giant, floating, surreal paper mache cutouts. Now bow down to me, bitches!
• Unwanted Rescue: The woman who jumps off a building in episode 2.
  Woman: Oh thank God, I'm safe... I'm finally in heaven where there's internet for everyone- OH MY GOD WHY AM I NOT DEAD?!
• Vocal Dissonance: Homura has a rather...deep voice for her age.
  • Except that one time in Charlotte's labyrinth.
• Voice of the Legion: Charlotte, or at least her second form that comes out and noms on Mami's head. The combo mix of ridiculously high-pitched Sickeningly Sweet and Evil Sounds Deep saying "I love you" is rather chilling.
• What Happened To That Cat In The Opening Theme: Answered right away in the first post-opening scene of Episode 1.
• Why Did It Have To Be Ribbons?: Homura's reaction, after being tied up in Mami's ribbons.
• Yank the Dog's Chain: Kyoko finally gets to do her introduction scene at the end of Episode 4...which then gets cut off early by technical difficulties. And the narrator picks Madoka and Sayaka to entertain the audience while they try to fix it, which they can't and have to end early.
  • She gets it even before that; when the narrator announces a "NEW CHARACTER INTRODUCTION!" in episode 2, she pauses just long enough for Kyoko to believe it's her... before announcing that it's Hitomi. And she isn't even a new character.
  • And as an Ask to the group's Tumblr points out, now that the series is cancelled Kyoko will never get her screen time.
