Seagla

The first monster to appear in the series. A quartet of monsters were originally frozen within a block of ice from Antarctica. The ice made its way to Tokyo Bay in Japan where they thawed out to attack. That is until the newly formed Science Guard Party were there to stop them, including the recently-appearing Ultraman Joneus.

  • Breath Weapon: One that freezes their opponents.
  • Four Is Death: There are four Seaglas appearing in the series.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: At least a pair of Seaglas accidentally froze each others in a crossfire.
  • An Ice Person: They came from a thawed piece of iceberg from Antarctica that found its way to Japan and unleashes freezing breath attack.
  • Starter Villain: One that ended up becoming the Science Guard Party's first case and Joneus' first kill.

Spiral

One day, a sentient tornado attacked multiple power generators on the same day of Mutsumi's birthday. While the Science Guard Party were summoned to investigate the matter, Mutsumi was caught in said cyclone, forcing them to plan a rescue operation. During that fight, Joneus discover that the sentient tornado they were fighting against is actually a giant beating heart.

  • Achilles' Heel: As Spiral is actually a beating heart, it is truly vulnerable without the cyclone protecting it.
  • Blow You Away: Its powers are literally manipulation of wind to create its cyclone body.
  • Meaningful Name: Spiral, due to its power revolving around cyclones.
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: Is a giant beating heart surrounded by a cyclone as a makeshift body.

Wanigodon

A monster from the Mt. Jugo, which Marume and the Defense Army had taken down using a bazooka. The cleaning crew were ordered to salvage any remaining pieces of Wanigodon, but to their surprise, they learn that this monster can regenerate into several more of its kind if any of the pieces survived. One of them turned into a baby monster under Takashi's care, who named it Pero and is under a massive denial that his pet is a malicious monster.

  • Asteroids Monster: While blowing up Wanigodon with a bazooka does kill it, its pieces can reform into smaller versions that eventually grows into copies of itself, as exampled with the three other Wanigodons reappearing the day after when parts of its blown-up cells survived.
  • Mythology Gag: A similar incident from Kingstron in Return of Ultraman. In that, a monster was blown up into pieces by the attack team and one of their remains were salvaged by a kid, which eventually regrows into the monster itself.
  • Pet Monstrosity: One of these regenerated monster was retrieved by a young boy named Takashi, assuming that its a docile animal and named it Pero. Marume has to give the boy a reality check when he became denial of Pero being one of the three Wanigodons.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: The Wanigodons have aversion to salt water (sea). Fighting Joneus at the beach was a massive mistake, so...

Red Smogy

A pink space cloud suddenly appearing in Japan Alps. Under a heavy rain, the cloud forms into a monster that was actually well-meaning, but turned rampant from the constant torture of the raindrops.

Toughgilan and Toughgilas

Professor Henry Nishiki had been investigating sudden disappearance of forests for at least a year. In the present day, he joined the Science Guard Party to investigate that matter and eventually found the source as a pair of monster couple, the male Toughgilan and the female Toughgilas.

  • Battle Couple: The Toughgilan and Toughgilas are parents to a pair of children.
  • Expy: Of Seagorath and Seamons.
  • Monster Is a Mommy: Or in this case, they were both parents.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: They were only eating trees to sustain their large proportions and living long enough to take care of their children. Unfortunately Joneus was forced to kill them.
  • Spike Shooter: Toughgilan and Toughgilas can shoot quills from its body.
  • Tunnel King: The pair had been burrowing their way beneath the ground to traverse to different parts of the land, allowing them to avoid the ocean as well while seeking more forests to consume.

Toughgilao and Toughgilako

The children of Toughgilan and Toughgilas. Toughgilao is the male and Toughgilako is the female.

  • Avenging the Villain: After Joneus killed their parents, the pair bit his legs in a vain attempt to avenge their dead parents.
  • Happily Adopted: The pair had since came to accept Henry Nishiki as their caretaker at his home.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Courtesy of being taken care by Professor Henry Nishiki.
  • Shrink Ray: Joneus subject them as miniature monsters under the care of Henry Nishiki.

Firebadon

A bat-like monster from beneath the volcanic area of Pacific Oceans, having its history recorded since the ancient times by literature. The Science Guard Party pursued the monster through Super Mardock in underwater, but they had to adapt to a new strategy after a near-fatal incident.

  • Achilles' Heel: The Super Mardock had shoot their harpoon at a spot that wounded Firebadon. Joneus exploit that same wound to kill the monster with Planium Ray.
  • Bat Out of Hell: Its main motif is a bat monster with the power over fire.
  • Giant Flyer: As expected of a bat monster, it flies at the speed of Mach 7.
  • Magma Man: Its main power is flame, but is actually feeding on magma to survive.

Combugon

Five years prior to the series, an unnamed space monster accidentally ate a super computer of a space station and fell into Earth where it remained in hibernation. After the explosion from Planet Ziora awakened it, Combugon went into a reign of terror in the city, using the supercomputer it fused with to counter the Science Guard Party's movements.

  • Fusion Dance: Combugon came to being when a space monster accidentally ate a supercomputer from a wrecked satellite and became a cyborg-like monster.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Joneus correctly figured out that Combugon was only rampaging from the shockwave of Planet Ziora's destruction. He sole the situation by splitting Combugon from the supercomputer it swallowed, reverting to the original space monster it was and brought it somewhere safe.
  • Purple Is Powerful: While the definition of powerful is a bit of a stretch, the supercomputer that Combugon fused with gave the monster the ability to predict any of the opponent's attacks before they could react.
  • Seers: Thanks to the supercomputer it swallowed no less.

Mikonos

One day, a flying saucer was spotted in the Japan Alps and the Science Guard Party were sent to investigate. To their surprise, a monster named Mikonos appear to fight them. Joneus duel against it while unaware that another party was watching the battle from a safer distance.

Alien Baltan

Voiced by: Mikio Terashima

After a fight with Mikonos, the Science Guard Party discover that someone had took a picture of Joneus, lying it to the press that it was the Ultra's human host itself. Sensing that this person had a malicious intent, Hikari decided to investigate the matter on his own.

See Ultraman TV Series

  • Art Evolution: Thanks to the liberty of the anime, this Baltan is designed to be much more deviating from his original appearance. His pincers were larger and his legs are also pincers.
  • Batman Gambit: He knows all too well that Joneus will be his obstacle in invading Earth, so he first uses his monster Mikonos to become the bait for Joneus to fight while he took the pictures of the fight. Then, he gave those photos to the television station under the phony statement that it was Ultraman Joneus' human appearance (Choichiro Hikari), which seemingly threatens Hikari's secret. So when Hikari went off to investigate, Alien Baltan would activate the trap to kill Hikari. The young man was fortunate to be able to free from the Baltan's trap however.
  • Freeze Ray: Like the original Baltan, he fires a red beam that puts his targets in suspended animation until he dies.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Baltan didn't actually assume a convincing human form. All he ever did was covering himself with various clothes to pass of as normal humans, though he did shapeshift his arms into human hands.

Dolfiego

In Tamara Island, situated next to the Easter Island, a group of archaeologists were studying remains of an ancient civilization. To their surprise, three of them disappeared and return to attack the docking ships. As the Science Guard Party were sent to investigate, Hikari discover the source of their problems to be an ancient monster, who's kind were rulers of mankind in the past.

  • Hypnotic Eyes: Its main ability. Dolfiego is capable of understanding human speech, but requires a hypnotized human victim victim he mind controlled with its eyes to do the talking.
  • Last of His Kind: Dolfiego's race was mankind's ruler from 12 million years prior. Flash forward to the present day, he's the endling of his kind. Joneus killed the monster and therefore any trace of Dolfiego has officially extinct.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: For all of its nastiness, Dolfiego was simply angered because of the archaeologists disturbing his resting place. Its main reason of fighting Joneus was also out of misassumption that humans were out to get him despite Hikari's best attempt at negotiation.

Xalome

  • Doppelgänger Spin: By virtue of swallowing the magician with that ability, Xalome appeared as if it was able to teleport, but in truth, the monster mislead the humans in order to continue its attack unopposed.
  • Fusion Dance: It swallowed a magician with illusion (pseudo-teleporting) ability, hence obtaining that power for its own use.
  • Karma Houdini: For all of the trouble Xalome had caused, Joneus simply return the monster to its desert once he rescued the magician it had fused with.

Hectole

Former Earth Self-Defense Army member Daisuke Ogawara created a bulldozer machine as a weapon against monster attacks that he had foreseen after his warnings were ignored by his colleagues. Building Hectole in the Himalayas, Ogawara presented it as a challenge to the newly formed Science Guard Party over who would get to fight the monsters onwards, but the monster he tried to face against turned out to be liquids that eventually hijacked Hectole into rampaging a nearby village.

Liquid Monster

Sentient liquids that situated beneath the Himalayas. Ogawara in Hectole try to face them, only to discover a nasty surprise along the way.

  • Demonic Possession: They are capable of possessing machines into their own liking. Just ask Pig and Hectole.
  • Kill It with Fire: As they were sentinet liquids, they were needed to be burned to the last drop in order to be eliminated.
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: They are liquid life forms capable of possessing machineries.

Opt (Cho, Zin and San)

Cho, Zin and San were originally a trio of brothers from an unnamed sea creature species. Due to constant pollution brought by mankind to the ocean, the trio were mutated into giant monsters. Cho and Zin grew resent over mankind, but San was only reluctant to follow his brothers and wished to return to their originally peaceful lives.

  • Avenging the Villain: Seeing Cho and Zin killed by Joneus out of Mercy Kill turned San into a berserker trying to avenge his brothers, but collapsed midway charging into Joneus as it died from its pre-existing injuries.
  • Big Brother Bully: Cho and Zin regarded San as The Drag-Along to their conquest in against mankind and repeatedly abusing him. San however holds no ill intent against them.
  • Breath Weapon: Cho exhales flame and Zin sprays liquid.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Cho and Zin came to hate humans after they polluted the ocean and mutated the three brothers into giant monsters.
  • Our Monsters Are Weird: Mutated sea creature brothers taking shared residency in a giant shell.
  • Token Good Teammate: San. In fact, he was the one who told the rest of the Science Guard about his brothers' history and how they turned into monsters.

Garadoras

An ancient monster resting under the Lake Ryujin, where nearby villagers were instructed to play a fete to quell its anger. That is until a group of tourists and researchers came to disrupt its resting place.

  • Make Some Noise: Its sonic scream, but instead of disorienting targets, it petrifies them.
  • Pet the Dog: In the past, the reason why Garadoras attacked the Ryujin villagers was due to the warring combatants' fight resulted with the death of a pair of Star-Crossed Lovers.
  • Taken for Granite: Its sonic scream turns its victims into stone statues.

Geron

One of the many worldwide monsters to go rampant from the Asteroid Creature's influence. It was killed shortly after by the Science Guard Party in their Super Mardock.

Gadon

One of the many worldwide monsters to go rampant from the Asteroid Creature's influence. It try to stop the Science Guard Party from advancing to the Asteroid Creature, forcing Hikari to left his team and stay behind to fight it as Joneus.

  • Giant Flyer: Again, given the circumstances in the above trope. Its flight speed is Mach 5.

Asteroid Creature

A sentient celestial body that fly passed the Earth in its route, but its sole presence emits radioactive waves that can cause reptiles and monsters to become aggressive. When Earth Self-Defense Army try to destroy it with several missile, the living asteroid created Zyclon from surplus energy source as its guardian.

  • Comet of Doom: It only flies passing Earth, but it has radioactive properties that can turn monsters into berserks. The Science Guard Party acknowledge the threat it posed and they construct a plan to destroy it.
  • Energy Absorption: The asteroid itself drains Joneus' power the longer he stays on it, forcing him to recharge using the sun and return more powerful than he originally was.
  • Hate Plague: Its main power is to release radioactive waves that turn animals and monsters on Earth into rampants.
  • It Can Think: The asteroid is sentient, hence why it was also creating Zyclon as its defender.

Zyclon

A monster created by the Asteroid Creature, meant to be its defender from outside threats.

  • Cephalothorax: Its main appearance is just two legs without arms or torso altogether.
  • The Dragon: Zyclon was created solely for the purpose of defending its creator, Asteroid Creature.
  • Magma Man: Fires 800 million degree of lava.
  • Shock and Awe: Shoots 700 million volts of electricity discharges.

Goglan

A space insect that turned giant after being exposed to radioactive. Hikari recalled fighting one of this insect before his return to Earth.

  • Captain Ersatz: Its moth form is basically the Ultra Series version of the titular monster of Mothra to be exact.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Goglans are relatively small space insects appearing like caterpillars and eventually evolving into moths. The reason why its a threat on Earth was because a scientist mistakenly enlarged its egg after assuming it as a plant seed. And that is not to say when it further evolve into a giant moth.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Before the series, Hikari had once encountered another Goglan on space station EGG 3. He killed it when the creature was munching through several wires, thus saving the space station from destruction. The reason why Hikari kept it a secret is that it was not important to him, hence why Joneus picked him as his host.
  • Make My Monster Grow: On the accidental receiving end by one unfortunate scientist.

More/King More

A strange-looking bird with smaller wings on its chest, More was about the size of a chicken and flew alongside a flock of birds at the sea. It was theorized to be a shrunken breed of the already extinct North Island giant moa. After injuring itself by accident, the veterinarian of a luxury ship try to resurrect it with electricity, but this transformed More into the King More monster, bend on kidnapping Mutsumi, its rescuer.

Somewhere in an alternate timeline, he continues to fight for a new generation of mankind.
The Heisei Ultraseven is a series of Direct to Video media published from year 1994 to 2002. It was made by the joint collaboration between Tsuburaya Productions and video services, VAP and NTV. It consists of six specials that was divided into four series, depending on the year it aired.

  • The first two specials were Operation: Solar Energy and Planet of the Earthlings, aired as TV Specials in Nippon Television Network during 1994. The crew behind Denkō Chōjin Gridman also participated in the production of both instalments.
  • Ultraseven 30th Anniversary Trilogy, consist of three instalments where from this point, the videos are subsequently released on DVD exclusives. It celebrated the 30th anniversary of Ultraseven.
  • Ultraseven 1999 The Final Chapters Hexalogy, released in six episodes during the year 1999.
  • Ultaseven Evolution, the final instalment to be released, all in five episodes in 2002.

Set in an Alternate Universe, Ultraseven features the titular hero as the only known Ultra to have visited and protected Planet Earth, thus disregarding Ultraman and every series subsequently after Return of Ultraman. Seven/Dan returned to Earth 30 years after his final battle with the invaders. During his arrival, Seven fought against the Alien Pitts and Metrons, leftovers from his prime years, but a few instalments deal with his wavering faith in mankind. During that moment, he also took the opportunity to slip into the ranks of the new Ultra Garrison, using their new recruit Masaki Kazamori as his new host.

    Heisei Ultraseven as a whole

  • Alternate Universe: Heisei Ultraseven took place in a timeline where Seven is and the only Ultra to ever visited Earth, therefore creating an alternate timeline where the Ultra Garrison was never disbanded for MAT to replace them.
  • Central Theme: A few of them initially deals with environmental issues to coincide with Japan's environmental awareness back in the 1994. From 1999 and so on, the theme shifted to mankind's self worth and eventually into a full blown xenophobic and prejudice against anything that isn't mankind or from Earth.
  • Cool Car: The Pointer, just like the ones in the original series. However, recent models lacked any features and being portrayed as simple cars. The model varies within each instalments of the home video series.
  • Green Aesop: Both of the TV Specials and 30th anniversary trilogy focuses on environmental awareness and how mankind's pollution on Earth could affect their daily lives. The aliens also exploited the growing deterioration of Planet Earth for their invasion purposes.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: The 1999 Hexalogy and the 2002 Evolution Quintology opted for this element, as Seven's trust for mankind started to waver after seeing their negative sides, while also dealing with the prospect of whether mankind was really worthy of being Earth inhabitants.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Furuhashi's friendship with Dan still remains the same even after his secret of being an alien was exposed. Aside from Anne (the only on-screen returning Ultra Garrison original member), Furuhashi even extend it to an Undying Loyalty.
  • Narrator All Along: Kohji Moritsugu, the actor of Dan Moroboshi and Ultraseven's voice actor is also the narrator in certain episodes of the special.
  • Time Skip: As early as Operation: Solar Energy, Furuhashi noted that it had been 30 years since Seven's last fight with Pandon.
  • What If?: The main premise of these special episodes are what would happen if Seven was the only Ultra to arrive on Earth.

    Ultraseven 1994 TV Special episodes

  • Accidental Pervert: Dan (Anne's son) tricked the Ultra Garrison officer Togo into opening a bathroom where his sister was still taking her bath. Understandably, said teenager shrieked in surprise and Togo quickly shuts the door in apology.
  • Came Back Strong: Subverted. Despite the Alien Pitt's attempts at enhancing Eleking through their predecessor's past experience and even went as far as to destroy its data from the Ultra Garrison's databank, not only the horn's Achilles' Heel feature was still there, but their monster was also deprived of its energy by mankind's solar energy technology.
  • Canon Immigrant: Even for an Alternate Universe setting, the first episode has Gesura, Alien Baltan and Oil Drinker appearing as pictures despite being from different series than Seven. However it is possible that the Ultra Garrison had fought them before instead of different Ultras in the main timeline.
  • Dark Is Evil: The Alien Metron pair disguise themselves as a couple dressed in all black.
  • Distressed Dude: Anne's son, Dan, was kidnapped by the Alien Pitt after seeing the boy trying to interfere with their invasion plans.
  • Fantastic Nuke: The missiles created by Alien Metron were originally used to destroy the ozone layer and therefore using the sun's unfiltered UV rays to destroy mankind. The explosion of these missiles after they were prevented from being launched created a cloud of smoke which denied Seven from receiving his sunlight. That is, until Furuhashi cleared the smoke once again.
  • Field Promotion: Furuhashi is the only original member of the Ultra Garrison to be promoted to the rank of captain, leading a new batch of members under his wing.
  • He's Back!: After crashing down on Earth and remained comatose for almost the entire Operation: Solar Energy special, Seven finally reawakened just in time to intercept Eleking and the Alien Pitts.
  • I Have Your Wife: The Pitts after losing their Eleking try torture Anne's son, Dan, just to spite the humans before Dan saved the boy and finished them off in the space saucer.
  • I Lied: The Alien Metrons tricked a professor named Tonezaki to work with their plans over the underground civilization that was meant for the betterment of mankind, until it was revealed that they never cared for mankind and only wanted the Earth to their own kind.
  • I Will Wait for You: Platonic example: Furuhashi still had his faith in Dan/Seven's return, and despite Seven seemingly disappeared from the Metrons' explosion, he was right that it did not kill Seven right away.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: The Alien Metrons initially portray themselves as outer space environment activist to Professor Tonezaki for the betterment of Earth and other wildlife, but their plan was revealed to be ruse just to wipe out mankind and all life on Earth, at the same time making Earth as the second home to their kind.
  • One-Steve Limit: Invoked. Anne named her son as Dan in honor of Ultraseven's human form and the times they spent fighting together in their active years.
  • Retired Badass: Anne left the Ultra Garrison during the 30 year Time Skip and gave birth to a teenage daughter and a son, the latter she named as Dan. Her husband was absent in the TV Special, but was mentioned to have been on Mars doing research.

    Ultraseven 30th Anniversary Trilogy

  • Amnesiac Hero: Dan lost his memory after the fight against Metron and survived by living as a freeloader in the Murata family's house.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: All invaders in this special uses a plot that involves brainwashing mankind to their own liking, while doing so out of transparent Well-Intentioned Extremist.
    • Alien Variel wanted to preserve nature on Earth after mankind's activity harm them.
    • Alien Guts predicted that mankind will extinct in the near future due to volcanic actvities and thus transforming humans into sulfur-mutants.
    • Banderas has the ability to rid mankind of their Minus Energy, but also brainwashing them into his mindless puppets.
  • Humans Are Special: Dan/Seven's reason of protecting mankind is that they are in charge of their own future and is adamant on refusing other alien races to meddle with Earth and its civilization.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Aside from Dan, Variel's plants cause memory loss in those who caught in its pollen.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: Atfer an entire episode of being Mugged for Disguise, Kazamori was mistaken by Furuhashi as the disguised Dan at the end of the fight against Alien Guts.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Dan abducted Kazamori into his capsule and use the young boy's form to slip into the Ultra Garrison, as well as helping them tackling the alien invaders they were fighting against.
  • Put on a Bus: While a new group of Ultra Garrison was established, their predecessor in the TV Special had long left. Furuhashi gets promoted while Kaji, Togo and Risa were absent. Kaji's case however is explained that his actor went to portray Shinjoh in Ultraman Tiga at that same time.
  • Shirtless Scene: An amnesiac Dan dreams of himself being shirtless and almost engulfed in flames.
  • Tragic Villain: Banderas loses it when it was revealed that despite his attempt to prevebt the death of his sun, inhabitants of his solar system had already left for another planet.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist:
    • Alien Variel plans to save the Planet Earth from pollution, but doing so means he had to resort to brutal invasion and brainwashing.
    • Alien Guts predicted that mankind will cease to exist due to the mantle plume cycle that will arrive in the future. In order to save mankind and extending their influence to the future, Guts presented his solution by transforming them into sulfur-mutants.
    • Banderas' main goal of invading Earth is to support his namesake solar system, but as Dan pointed out, its residents already left for other planets right under his own nose.

    Ultraseven The Final Chapters Hexalogy

  • Back for the Dead: Dan's Capsule Monsters Miclas and Windam once again appear, especially since the latter had an Unexplained Recovery after being killed by Alien Guts in Dan's prime years in Ultra Garrison. Unfortunately these two were quickly killed by Zabangi in episode 6 when Dan summoned them against the monster.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Earth is safe and mankind gets to live for another few years, but the Nonmalts get away even after their claim as the true Earthling was vindicated, as well as Seven being imprisoned in Horsehead Nebula for his trouble in interfering with a civil war between two native civilizations.
  • Body Surf: Alien Valkyrie jumps from various hosts to one another, constantly Body Surfing between members of the new Ultra Garrisons until it gets to Kazamori, where he allow Dan to shoot him, forcing Valkyrie to be left without a host. Oh and the alien cannot possess Seven for reasons unknown.
  • Breather Episode: Episode 4 is devoid of alien conflicts and Kaji's meddling with Ultra Garrison, opting for a live action adaptation of the Japanese fairy tale Urashima Taro.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Subverted. After being forced to shoot a Valkyrie-possessed Kazamori, the young man was gravely injured, forcing Seven to impersonated him at the end of the special. It was revealed in episode 6 that Dan assumed Kazamori's form for a year while the real man recuperated in one of Dan's capsule monsters.
  • Eldritch Abomination:
    • Alien Valkyrie's true form is a grotesque monstrosity, far from his namesake origin. Dan even lampshades that his true form is very much a reflection of his ugly heart.
    • The benevolent Alien Kyuloo's true form was never revealed, except as a shadow which portrayed him as a figure with messy textures.
  • Fantastic Nuke: The Operation: Friendship launched by TDF involves launching interstellar ballistic missiles to destroy planets with intelligent lifeforms which were deemed to be potential threats to mankind. Subverted that it was all a ruse for Kaji and his radical TDF factions to set up TDF bases on planets they bombarded.
  • Fantastic Racism: Kaji as part of his Took a Level in Jerkass due to losing a loved one in the past. The appearing aliens are also accounted for, except for Alien Kyuloo that is.
  • Government Conspiracy: The TDF's Omega File, which established mankind's predecessors as true invaders who overthrowed the Nonmalts in the past as the dominant race on Earth. Kaji and TDF's Public Security Bureau went through extreme lengths to silence everyone who knew the secret, including former Ultra Garrison captain Kiriyama.
  • He Knows Too Much: Off-screen, former Ultra Garrison captain Kiriyama was executed by Kaji's men in order to silence those who knew the contents of the Omega File.
  • Humongous Mecha:
    • Alien Kyuloo's Daitekkai robot, which the Alien Galo repaired and hijacked for invasion purposes.
    • Once again, Dan has Windam as his Mons deployed whenever he found himself in trouble.
    • TDF attempted to rebuild King Joe into their fighting force, only for the Rajakahm Stone to turn the robot berserk.
  • The Lost Lenore: Kaji lost his girlfriend (and is implied to have lost Togo and Risa as well) in an unnamed alien attack. It turns him into the current General Ripper that is a full blown departure from how he was in the 1994 TV Specials.
  • Mushroom Man: Alien Lemojo's true form are sentient humanoid fungus.
  • Spiders Are Scary: The Alien Galo are alien spiders who mind control humans to blend in with the society by latching into their host's head.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Again Kaji, for the above reasons.
  • Time Skip: As revealed in episode 1, several years had passed since Banderas' fight. Episode 6 (the final part of the hexalogy) established Seven had been in Kazamri's disguise for a year ever since that Valkyrie incident.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Also Kaji, for the above reasons.
  • What You Are in the Dark: The Rajakahm Stone created a clone of Kaji based on the darkness of his hearts, who boasted the fact that he was only for the genocide against aliens for the mankind supremacy. When Kaji shouted that King Joe is a robot of destruction, it only gets worse as the stone possessed the robot into a rampaging machine on the run.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: A lot of them, but it only escalated into a cycle of hatred against one another.
    • After losing his girlfriend from an alien attack, Kaji initiated the plan to execute aliens and other invaders mercilessly to protect mankind from experiencing the same loss as he did. Unfortunately its buried under his newfound war hawk tendencies.
    • When mankind initiated Operation: Friendship by blowing up planets with potential alien enemies, Alien Valkyrie was the first to attack by discrediting the Ultra Garrison publicly through a series of possessions.
    • The Alien Galo, while relatively a villain fron the start, they also took their intervention like Valkyrie after Earth has become a planet that pick up a fight against the outer space.
    • The greatest holder of this trope is the Nonmalts when their claims for being the real Earthling before mankind did was proven through the Omega Files, hence beginning their hostile takeover of the surface dwellers (humans).
  • You Shall Not Pass!: All of these happening in Episode 6, so spoiler alert...
    • To prevent Zabangi from interrupting the transmission of the Omega Files by destroying the radio station, Windam and Miclas were summoned by Seven to halt the monster.
    • At that same time, Kaji and his men try to stop Seven from advancing to the Omega Files to no avail. After chancellor Takenaka approved the transfer of said file, Kaji did his final stand against Seven and was quickly tossed aside like a rag doll.

    Ultraseven Evolution

  • Big Bad: For the first time in this series, the defining one appears to none other than Alien Garut.
  • Came Back Strong: The Neo Pandon is the Alien Ghost's revived Pandon who posed as a greater threat than it previously portrayed in the past.
  • Creepy Child: The ESPer children are all willing to use force to fight against the adults and are also not above the act of murder.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The retired (and now fugitive) Kazamori has remnants of Ultraseven's powers, dressed in all black and even hostile to the current Ultra Garrison as he is well aware that a traitor is among the TDF's ranks. Despite this, he is still the hero and the aliens fear him for bearing Seven's power.
  • Evil Counterpart: Alien Garut is one to Ultraseven: both share the same occupation (constant point observers) and were captivated by Planet Earth and its culture. However while Seven resolve to protect the planet and its people, Garut wanted to invade and conquer the planet through (il)legal means.
  • The Hero Dies: Satomi was killed by the psychic children, but her death also allowed her cavader to be converted into energy for Seven to escape his prison and finally heading for Earth.
  • Mistaken for Badass: Before his merger with Seven, Kazamori is treated as The Dreaded by a few aliens due to having a small portion of Seven's power.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: With the Pandon controller in possession, Neo Pandon feeds on the hatred of its users. Had Shima kept his composure, he would have stopped Neo Pandon from the get go when Mitsuko (the Plant Life form) was approaching him.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: For his act in interfering with civilizations from I am Earthling, Seven was imprisoned in the Horsehead Nebula.
  • Pet Monstrosity: Alien Garut isn't alone in his fight against Seven, as he also brought his Cyborg monster Gaimos as his partner in the fight.
  • The Power of Hate: Neo Pandon is controlled by a device which the user channeled his hatred to guide the monster into attacking. Without it, Neo Pandon can remain as a docile monster that wouldn't hurt a fly.
  • Retired Badass: Kazamori retired from the service of Ultra Garrison at the start of the series.
  • Sharing a Body: Kazamori merged with Seven a la Shin Hayata with Ultraman from their fight against Neo Pandon.
  • The Sixth Ranger: Yuki Kisaragi, the new recruit to Ultra Garrison.
  • Time Skip: 5 years had passed since the Nonmalt incident from the 1999 Hexalogy Specials.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The radical Alien Pegassa faction, Alien Godola, the ESPer children and finally former TDF officer Suwa were all manipulated by Alien Garut for his attempt to conquer Earth (legally).
  • Walking the Earth: The entire series as a whole ended with Kazamori leaving to parts unknown while still retaining his merger with Ultraseven.

This is the character list for Heisei Ultraseven. Taking place in an Alternate Universe, it served as a standalone sequel to the original 1967-68 Ultraseven in a world where Seven is the only Ultra to ever set foot on Earth, while the Ultra Garrison never disbanded.

For the original characters of Ultraseven and their exploits in said series, see here.

Ultraseven/Dan Moroboshi/Masaki Kazamori

    Ultraseven/Dan Moroboshi

    Masaki Kazamori
One of the many members of the reformed Ultra Garrison, Kazamori is a young man who usually looked up to Ultraseven as a hero, but ironically finds Dan's meddling in the team's investigation to be a pain in the neck, especially since Kazamori is the frequent subject of his disguise. He eventually mellowed out after Dan reveal himself as Ultraseven in disguise, to the point where he also switched places with Masaki when the latter performed a Heroic Sacrifice to prevent Alien Valkyrie from escaping. In Evolution, Masaki had retired from the Ultra Guard to become a wanderer, only to find himself in the conflict between aliens when mankind's future was threatened.

  • Ascended Fanboy: He is one of the many fans of Ultraseven and it even gets to the point where near the end of Evolution, he became Seven's host a la Shin Hayata with Ultraman.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Taking advantage of Alien Valkyrie possessing him, Kazamori allowed Dan to shoot him in a place where no one else except the two were around, preventing Valkyrie from inhabiting new hosts. Dan store Kazamori into his capsule for recuperation while taking the youth's place in the Ultra Guard.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Kazamori found himself often the receiving end of being Dan's disguise when slipping into the new Ultra Guard. It becomes a plot point in the 1999 hexalogy when Dan had to disguise himself as Kazamori for the rest of the series while the real youth was recuperating in the capsule.
  • New Meat: Like the rest of his team members, Kazamori is still new to the Ultra Guard and their first case together was foiling Alien Variel's invasion.

Ultra Garrison/TDF

    As a whole
  • Breaking the Fellowship: By the time a new batch of members were introduced in the 1998 trilogy, the old quartet which Furuhashi used to lead had long disbanded.
  • Cool Car: The Pointer itself. Unlike the original series, once per different instalments have them using different car models, but none of them have hidden weaponries like their predecessor.
  • Costume Evolution: The original Ultra Garrison wore light blue uniforms. The Heisei era team members were seen in gray colored versions of it.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: The original Ultra Garrison members had long retired after Seven's final battle with Pandon. The only surviving members were Furuhashi (who gets promoted into the captain of the new Ultra Garrison), Anne (who settled her life as a married woman) and Dan (obviously Ultraseven, now operating from the shadows).
  • Only One Name: The 1994 TV Special-exclusive members were known for only one name; Kaji, Togo and Risa.
