Other Olympia

Airdate: June 22, 2018 note

Olympia is not happy when an agent with the same name shows up.

NOTE: For simplicity's sake, the Olympia from "Assistant's Creed" is referred to as "Odal", where applicable. Please keep this in mind when reading and editing.

Tropes:

  • 100% Heroism Rating: Odal returns with her partner Ozric, and announces her return. When she does, a large crowd of agents begin forming around her, and when she and Ozric leave the bullpen, the crowd follows her.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Otis refers to the Cold Open client as "Melissa", when her name is actually "Sharon". When he's corrected, he nonchalantly remarks that he "took a shot at it".
  • Affectionate Nickname: Odal refers to Olympia by a few nicknames, such as "Other Olympia" and "Triple O". The affection is entirely one-sided on her end, however — for Olympia, they're all Embarrassing Nicknames.
  • Alliterative Name: Hot Hands Harry.
  • Artistic License – Medicine: Harry's hands look (and function) more like he has second or third-degree burns than an odd illness, to the point where the sound of sizzling accompanies him holding them up and his hand manages to melt the packaging of one of Ms. O's juice boxes. Dunking a hand in water doesn't help to treat the burn, and instead, the water begins to boil immediately. Despite the fact that he could potentially have burned hands, he isn't shown overtly suffering from it nor does anyone suggest he visit a hospital for treatment (which is one should do if they are suffering from second or third-degree burns); instead, the Un-Hot-Hand-inator was created for such an affliction, and Harry's hands are used for various things like ironing clothing and making toast, to the point where it becomes a Chekhov's Gun for the name-off.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Sharon's pug has grown to gigantic proportions as a result of her husband taking it out for a walk. It's a common affliction known in the world of Odd Squad as "giant-dog-itis".
  • The Bus Came Back: Olympia/Odal from "Assistant's Creed" returns in this episode after having spent a year with her partner, Ozric, fighting the Sandman. The two are also now Investigation agents following their promotions at the end of that episode.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Harry's hands are used to help Olympia win the final competition of testing the temperature of a bucket of water.
  • The Coats Are Off: Played with — Otis has his coat off because it's getting ironed by Hot Hands Harry.
  • Continuity Nod: Just like what Oscar had beginning with "Odd Outbreak", Oona also has a checkout system for keeping track of gadgets. (Doesn't come with free chocolate, though.)
    • Both Olympias face off in a wrestling ring, like how Olive faced off against various villains in one in "Undercover Olive".
  • Dissimile: Odal gives this gem to Other Olympia when she can't find her elevator card.
Olympia: Did you leave it in one of the hot closets?
Odal: More like a cold closet, only instead of a closet, it wasn't a closet.
    Olympia: A room?
Odal: Ha. [chuckling] That's the word.
  • Enemy Eats Your Lunch: Hilariously defied by Odal, who pulls her cake slice backwards towards her when Olympia accuses her of eating the cake that was rightfully Olympia's.
  • Fatal Flaw: Olympia's tendency to be a Motor Mouth and ask Coach O the ever-so-intelligent question of how the game works earns her another loss in the name-off.
  • Faux Paw: Olympia is shown making a variant of one when the scoreboard is shown, as she extends her fingers and bends them as though they're claws.
  • Graceful Loser: Odal harbors no ill feelings towards Olympia for winning the competition.
  • Hating on Monday: Inverted — Olympia discusses with Otis how much she loves Tuesdays. When Otis corrects her by saying it's Thursday, Olympia responds aptly by saying that every Thursday, she looks back on her Tuesday. Of course, since she's a Workaholic who works 'round the clock, it's justified.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the match, Ms. O comes up and introduces Otis and Olympia to the newest agent of Precinct 13579: Otis, who immediately shoots a Death Glare at the other Otis, who in turn rips off his tie and throws it onto the ground in another name-off declaration.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Otis thinks it's ridiculous that Olympia is getting worked up over having the same name as someone else, but doesn't do anything about it. The end of the episode has him meeting a new agent...whose name happens to be Otis, causing the original Otis to become angry enough to declare a name-off right off the bat.
  • Idiot Ball: Pretty much all of the agents sans Ms. O and Otis share the ball. All of them seem to play the One-Steve Limit trope straight and believe that no two agents can have the same name, when in fact, the opposite is true — not just for agents, but for other people as well (like there being 2 Glenns note , 3 Tonys note , etc.). It's made painfully obvious with Owen, who refuses to believe Olympia when she tells him that there's another girl named Olympia.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Ms. O sides with Odal in Olympia being called "Other Olympia" (since it's an Odd Squad rule) and explains what a name-off is, Olympia says that a name-off won't be necessary, as she's fine with the nickname and can handle this situation. Otis immediately tells Ms. O that his partner can't handle this situation, causing Olympia to shoot him a "what the hell" look. Of course, he could not be more right.
  • I Warned You: Otis tells Ms. O (and by extension, Harry and Olympia herself) that Olympia can't handle the fact there's someone with the same name as her. When Olympia calls him up after retrieving the Un-Hot-Hand-inator gadget, referring to Odal as "Sharlene" and accusing her of stealing Olympia's name, Otis tells Harry that "I told you she'd have a problem with this." To further hammer the point in, an agent passing by greets Olympia by calling her "Other Olympia", causing her to grow ever more frustrated.
  • Literal Metaphor: The expression "like finding a needle in a haystack" is taken more literally during the name-off — one of the challenges is actually finding a needle inside of a bale of hay. Another challenge inverts the phrase and has both Olympias finding a haystack inside of a needle.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Olympia and Otis are unaware of who Odal and Ozric are, since they weren't working at Odd Squad when Odal and Ozric went on their mission. A rather odd example in Olympia's case, as she is an Odd Squad historian and should have knowledge of the events of "Assistant's Creed".
  • Malicious Misnaming: For Olympia, "Other Olympia" is treated as a hurtful nickname, which both Odal and Ms. O refer to her as. The latter is forced to call Olympia the nickname due to the former's seniority, which is an Odd Squad rule.
  • Meaningful Rename: Odal is renamed such at the end of the episode after having previously been referred to as "Olympia". Apparently, "Odal" is her middle name, and everyone calls her "Odal" anyway.
  • One-Steve Limit: This episode both hangs a lampshade on the trope and deconstructs it. Olympia is shown being unable to do simple things, like return gadgets or open a closet, because Odal gets to it in some way before she does. As a result, she begins to grow more and more frustrated until she is denied a slice of cake from a nearby retirement party, as Odal has already gotten one. She lets out all of her anger on Odal, having been fed up with how she is treated, and the two Olympias compete against each other in a "name-off", an Odd Squad tradition wherein the loser is forced to change their name. By the end of the episode, Odal loses, and is forced to change her name from "Olympia" to "Odal".
    • The trope is also averted in the case of Otis, as he is introduced to another Otis who is a new agent of the precinct at the end of the episode...and immediately declares a name-off with him.
  • Pro Wrestling Episode: Downplayed. The name-off at the climax of the episode takes place inside of a wrestling ring, and it's treated as a parody of Professional Wrestling, only with non-physical combat and names at stake. Hell, even the agents present at the showdown are wearing shirts with the competitors' faces on them!
  • Rage Breaking Point: Olympia being denied a slice of cake while on her way to meet Otis and Harry despite not having had a slice already is the final straw for her as she sees Odal eating a cake slice of her own. She goes to confront her, and the two have a name-off with each other.
  • Really Was Born Yesterday: Parodied with Owen, who gives this gem when confronting Olympia:
Owen: Ohh. Yeah, right. Like there's just some other Olympia using your elevator card. Nice try, but I wasn't born yesterday. I think I would've remembered that if it was just yesterday I was born. [beat] And she's gone.
  • Rhythm Game: One of the challenges in the name-off is the Animal Clap Showdown, which functions this way. One competitor claps in time with saying the names of various animals, then the other competitor has to follow suit, naming a different animal at the end than the one the other competitor used (for example, Olympia uses "whale" while Odal uses "fox"). If a competitor repeats an animal name at the end of the chain, they lose.
  • Sanity Slippage: Olympia suffers from this over the course of the episode as she becomes unable to assist Otis in helping the client they need to help due to unintentional meddling from Odal. Luckily, it doesn't culminate in a Freak Out a la "Olympia's Day", but the other agents' interactions with her aren't necessarily helping either.
Olympia: [regarding having a name-off] Seems a little extreme. I'm sure I'll get used to this.
    Agent: Hey, Other Olympia.
Olympia: [shaky, unnatural sigh] All cool! Be right there.
  • Self Botched Catchphrase: While Otis and Olympia share the "happy to help, have a great day" Catchphrase often, Otis messes up the "happy to help" line by being more eloquent with his words.
Otis: Happy to perform a functional duty at this loca- she- ugh, she's better at this.
Olympia: Happy to help, have a great day!
  • Sentient Sands: The Sandman in the world of Odd Squad isn't stated to be a Dream Weaver — rather, he's a literal sandman.
  • Status Quo Is God: Olympia naturally gets to keep her name at the end of the episode.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Olympia does this while interacting with Owen, making a quick break for it when he elaborates on his "I wasn't born yesterday" comment.
  • Stealth Pun: The agent who is retiring from Odd Squad is named O'Revoir. Fitting that they're leaving the organization, since their name is a pun on "au revoir", meaning "goodbye" in French.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Right after Odal refers to Olympia as "Other Olympia", she, her partner Ozric, and the crowd of agents leave as Olympia develops a rather unsettling smile. Otis takes one look at her face, goes "Oh boy", and immediately knows what's going to happen. And of course, he's right on the money.
Olympia: [unnatural] Whaaat? Why "oh boy", no "oh boy"!
Otis: You're gonna have a hard time with this.
Olympia: Just because someone else has the same name as me? Otis, I can totally handle this. [cue unnatural smile]
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: Played for laughs with Oona, who is shown doing this as a way to practice her "statue pose".
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: In "Assistant's Creed", Odal was shown being generally kind, if not a bit rebellious and impatient. This episode has her being out-and-out antagonistic towards Olympia, showing little concern for how much strife the younger agent is experiencing throughout the episode and even referring to her as "Other Olympia" rather than just "Olympia" (and at one point, referring to her as "Other Other Olympia" due to one of her friends also being named Olympia).
  • Tranquil Fury: Ms. O is not happy when Harry picks up her juice box, causing the packaging to melt.
Otis: How about I bring Hot Hands Harry into the Warehouse where he can't touch anything?
    Ms. O: Good idea.
  • Work Com: While the show is already well established as a kid-friendly version of this, this episode takes it a step further by revealing that there are retirement parties that are held for kids who are retiring from Odd Squad, as an equivalent to the retirement parties seen at actual workplaces.
  • You Are Already Checked In: A variant occurs with one of the elevators in Headquarters. Olympia runs her card through the scanner over and over again in an attempt to access it, but fails every time. Owen, believing she has two elevator cards, stops her and reminds her that Odd Squad agents are only allowed one elevator card per person, so he turned Olympia's card off. She quickly realizes that it's Odal who has the active elevator card, and confronts her about it, only to have to go to another room to find the card.

Ms. O got this whole ensemble set up for Olympia and Otis, and yet she has to abandon it a quarter of the way through.
Total Zeroes

Airdate: June 22, 2018 note

Ms. O tells Olympia and Otis a story about a famous villain duo.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Time Period: Averted. This episode places the show roughly around 2017, going off of the Most Odd List's publication years. Similarly, Season 1 is revealed to take place over the course of 2014, if Odd Todd being on the cover of that year's Most Odd List is any indication.
  • Answer Cut: Sister Zero thinks that she and her brother have too much power, and he says that he knows who they can turn to for help. Cut to the person in question: Ms. O, who expresses doubt about helping them.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Sister Zero starts out as this, but quickly grows into a powerful villain once she realizes that changing her math operation to a multiplication sign serves as a useful power (since multiplying something by 0 equals 0).
  • Big "NO!": Sister Zero lets out one of these when she and Brother Zero end up last on the 2014 Most Odd List.
  • Brand X: Averted — Mr. Lightning outright name-drops Zumba at one point. note
  • Call-Back: Crazy Eights was previously introduced via mentions in "Haunt Squad", but was never seen. This episode has her making her first physical appearance as "Sister Zero", along with her brother, "Brother Zero".
  • Cheerful Child: Olympia discovers a rare piece of Odd Squad history, and goes nuts over it, being completely adorable to boot.
  • Chronic Villainy: While Sister Zero realizes that she went too far with her new power, she still wants to remain a villainess — she just wants to be less villainous.
  • The Cloudcuckoolander Was Right: For how stupid Brother Zero is, he has a point in suggesting that he and Sister Zero quit villainy and open up a flower shop. However, his words fall on deaf ears as his sister becomes power-hungry.
  • Complete Immortality: Played with. While it's well-established that all Directors can live for at least 2 millennia (and potentially have a semblance of total immortality), and that Ms. O in particular has lived for a century, this episode seems to imply that she can live even longer than that, to the point where Olympia and Otis have grown elderly and nearly everything — up to and including eating — is dominated by futuristic technology. While they are elders, Ms. O stays the exact physical age of 7. Since it's a gag Played for Laughs, though, it's hard to tell whether Ms. O (and Odd Squad agents in general) are truly immortal or not.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The Most Odd List manages to attract a lot of villains seen in past episodes, such as Freeze Ray Ray, Jellybean Joe, and Evil Ninja, among others.
  • Continuity Nod: Ms. O once again tells a story to her agents. This time, however, it takes her incredibly long just to tell the story, whereas "Totally Odd Squad" had her tell it in the span of 11 minutes.
  • Derailed Train of Thought: When Ms. O sits in the Interrogation Room and prepares to tell Olympia and Otis the rest of the story, Mr. Lightning invokes the trope by stating how he wants to hear the story and how storytelling "binds us as a culture". Olympia and Otis don't fall for it and outright call him out on wanting them to stop interrogating him. His response? "Maybe a little."
    • He later interrupts Ms. O a second time to try and invoke the trope again, saying that the story is about "the basic human desire to make a difference". This time, however, the Director defies the trope by pointedly telling him to ask whatever question he has.
  • Drunk on the Dark Side: Once she realizes that multiplying things by 0 removes them from existence, Sister Zero modifies her glove so it has a multiplication sign instead of an addition sign. She begins to use her powers gradually, but landing the #1 spot on the 2017 Most Odd List sends her completely off the rails as she removes anything and everything in her line of sight, up to and including things in her and Brother Zero's Supervillain Lair. Removing the lair itself causes the siblings to land in a White Void Room, since there is nothing left to zap, and she immediately begins to regret what she's done. Luckily, her brother — who had been constantly suggesting she stop — suggests they go to Odd Squad for help.
  • Enemies List: The Odd Squad Most Odd List functions in this way, as it's published by the organization's publishing division and ranks villains from the most odd to the least odd (which would give agents a good idea of who is a threat and who is not). Ms. O of Precinct 13579 is its brainchild, and eventually decides to stop putting out the Most Odd List after Sister Zero becomes Drunk on the Dark Side because of it.
  • Enemy Mine: Due to Sister Zero going too far with her powers, Brother Zero decide that the two siblings should go to Precinct 13579 for help. While Ms. O is initially (and rightfully) skeptical, she eventually caves in and decides to help them since it'll make the world less odd.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When reading the 2014 Most Odd List and finding out that she and her brother are ranked last for the second year in a row, Sister Zero becomes enraged enough to tear the catalog into two and throw it onto the ground, where it makes an X shape. This gives her the idea to change her glove with the arithmetic operation from an addition sign to a multiplication sign, which gives her a huge power boost.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: When the Puppy Master finds out that she's ranked #12 on the 2013 Most Odd List, she calls up her mother to tell her the news. Once she congratulates her, she says to put her father on.
  • Evil Wears Black: The Zero siblings both wear predominantly black outfits.
  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!: A paper boy quotes the trope name verbatim when handing out the 2013 Most Odd List to villains. He later says the line again when handing out the 2017 Most Odd List, but subverts it by saying "this issue costs extra" instead of "read all about it".
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: Averted. The Time Skip years into the future shows that the Main 4 are still friends with each other, although Olympia and Otis are more bonded with each other than with Ms. O and Oona.
  • Food Pills: In the future, there are orbs which come in a variety of colors and can be shared with multiple people. The orbs shoot out beams of light to the feeders' brains, rather than having them eat and digest them.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: A few shots from when the villains receive the Most Odd List shows the Toronto logo sitting in Nathan Phillips Square, which further confirms that both Season 1 and Season 2 of the show take place in Toronto.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: The Total Zeroes go from being essentially powerless and ineffective to being two of the most dangerous and feared villains in the entire history of Odd Squad, simply by changing their powers to multiply things by 0 rather than add or subtract.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Brother Zero generally serves as The Drag-Along to his sister. He doesn't want to be a villain, but rather, he wants to quit villainy and run his own flower shop. He is unable to do so until the end of the episode, where he pulls a proper turn.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, Ms. O knows how to weld.
  • Hologram Projection Imperfection: Averted. The Hologram Ms. O conjures up of Brother Zero on his first day at his flower shop is perfectly solid and suffers no glitching.
  • "I Know What We Can Do" Cut: Ms. O tells the Zero siblings that she has an idea on how to make them less odd. Cut to her in their Supervillain Lair, welding an 8 onto one of their gloves.
  • Left Hanging: An in-universe example occurs as a Running Gag throughout the episode — Ms. O is repeatedly cut off from telling the rest of the Total Zeroes story to Olympia and Otis by her needing to do something important. As a result, she interrupts them at the most inconvenient times (when on a case or dealing with a villain) to tell the rest of the story. It's taken up to eleven when it takes her years just to tell the entire story in itself, to the point where Olympia and Otis have both grown elderly.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Being the less knowledgeable of the duo when it comes to Odd Squad history, Otis has no idea what Olympia is holding in front of him. He looks at it in silence, and then says that he's pausing so she'll explain.
  • Meaningful Rename: Sister Zero changes her name to Crazy Eights, reflecting her new power of multiplying things by 8.
  • Mistaken for Profound: Olympia, an Odd Squad historian, believes that the 2013 Most Odd List is a rare historic item...when the episode takes place 3 years after its publication. Otis doesn't find much interest in it.
  • Moment Killer: Ms. O. By God, Ms. O.
Mr. Lightning: C'mon, Odd Squad. I've told you everything I know.
Olympia: Come on, Mr. Lightning! What were you doing on the night of the 28th?!
Mr. Lightning: I don't remember! [stammers]
Ms. O: [casually strolls in and sits] Okay, where were we?
[Olympia and Otis exchange confused looks]
Ms. O: The story? The Total Zeroes.
    Olympia: Ohh.
Otis: Right. [as Olympia points to Mr. Lightning] Ms. O, we're kinda busy.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Sister Zero gets hit with this hard when she takes her new powers too far — so much so that she has no other choice than to turn to Odd Squad for help.
  • Neat Freak: While it's well-established that Olympia likes being organized, this episode takes it a bit further by stating that on her break, she was in the Filing Room refiling her favorite filing drawers.
  • No-Sell: Anything the Zeroes attack isn't affected due to them using the "-0" equation — since they subtract 0 from things and add 0 to things (which would still be 0), it does nothing. Ms. O even lampshades how useless their powers are and how they don't affect anything at one point.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Instead of using her trademark Stealth Hi/Bye ability, Ms. O does this when Olympia wonders why Odd Squad doesn't out out the Most Odd List anymore. Not only that, but she manages to do it with a couch, a sofa, and a full fireplace.
  • Perp Sweating: Olympia and Otis are doing this with Mr. Lightning when Ms. O becomes a Moment Killer and decides that it's a good time to tell Olympia and Otis the rest of the story. Once she leaves, it's right back to yelling at the villain and demanding he confess where he was on the night of the 28th.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: This gem of an exchange occurs between Ms. O and Sister Zero.
Sister Zero: [zaps Ms. O's juice boxes, which aren't affected] Who are the worst villains now, Ms. O?
Ms. O: You. You're still the worst villains. Your powers don't do anything.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Immortality has long been a discussed topic amongst fans, especially with Investigation agents, with a common theory being that agents' badge phones grant them the ability to become immortal and remain a child forever. This episode features a Time Skip that shows Olympia and Otis as elders, while Ms. O stays the same age, which could potentially disprove the "badge phones grant agents Immortality" theory. However, it appears to be a gag played for laughs per Rule of Funny, and Olympia and Otis are reverted back to children in the very next episode, so whether the theory holds some truth or not is up for debate.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Mr. Lightning attempts to do this after Ms. O leaves due to an emergency and has to abandon the rest of the story regarding Brother Zero. Olympia and Otis defy the trope with Olympia ready to stand right back up and stop him and Otis giving a stern "Sit." And then they continue performing Perp Sweating on him.
  • Siblings in Crime: Sister Zero and Brother Zero, true to their names, are siblings. However, Brother Zero doesn't want to be a villain and wants to work in the floral industry, while Sister Zero wants to be a villain.
  • Skewed Priorities: Olympia and Otis are busy dealing with some sort of oddity or doing some Perp Sweating on a villain? To Ms. O, it's a great time to tell the rest of the story.
  • Space Clothes: Ms. O, Olympia and Otis are all seen wearing these. Otis' is perhaps the simplest outfit of them all, while Olympia dons a red visor and Ms. O wears a triangular-shaped piece on her body.
  • Start of Darkness: Of a sort. The episode revolves around Ms. O telling the story of how the Total Zeroes, a duo of ineffective villains, became a viable threat via flashbacks and turned good.
  • Status Quo Is God: Unlike what the Time Skip years into the future depicts, Olympia and Otis don't stay elderly for the rest of the season, and are turned back to their normal child selves in the very next episode.
  • The Storyteller: Ms. O becomes one of these throughout the episode, telling the story of how the Crazy Eights became "the most feared villains in Odd Squad history". It gets to such an extent that she interrupts Olympia and Otis when they're busy with something else.
  • Stupid Evil: Brother Zero is so dimwitted and so ineffective that he can barely even qualify as a villain at all. The only "evil" thing he really does is go along with his sister, but even then, just like her, his powers don't do anything.
    • Sister Zero also gets hit with this. She doesn't know her arithmetic operations very well, and decides to go with "- 0" and "+ 0" as her powers despite the fact everything she zaps with it isn't affected. Not even Ms. O views her and Brother Zero as viable threats, especially when her juice boxes become a No-Sell to the villainess's attacks.
  • There's No Kill like Overkill: Sister Zero uses her power of "x 0" to remove everything in sight, from trash cans to cars to clouds in the sky. This eventually leads to her removing nearly everything from existence to the point where she winds up in a White Void Room with her brother and begins to realize what she's done.
  • Time Skip: This episode skips ahead months and even years in advance so Ms. O can tell the story.
  • Tricked-Out Gloves: Sister Zero's gloves are the source of her powers and must be used together. One glove has a math operation like addition or subtraction, while the other glove has the number 0 on it.
  • Tyop on the Cover: A majority of PBS Kids stations, as well as TVO Kids, can't decide if the episode title is "Total Zeros" or "Total Zeroes".
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: When the Total Zeroes manage to surpass even those like Odd Todd in the rankings, that's how you know they're a threat. And that they are — they manage to remove everything to the point where there's nothing left but themselves.
  • Villain Decay: Inverted. The Total Zeroes go from barely a threat at all and being at the bottom of the list, to the top of the list with the power to remove anything by subtraction. This ends up biting them in the butt later on when they end up taking away enough things for them to land in a white void and need Ms. O to help them out.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Sister Zero apparently went to a night class to learn how to weld, which allows her to alter her gloves, and by extension, her powers.
    • Mr. Lightning also goes to Zumba class with Crazy Eights, or Sister Zero as she was formerly known as.
  • What He Said: Otis says this as part of his and Olympia's Perp Sweating with Mr. Lightning.
Olympia: Where were you on the night of the 28th?!
    Otis: What she said!!
  • White Void Room: The Zero siblings wind up in one when they take away most everything in existence.
  • Women Are Wiser: Once again, the show plays the trope straight for the Total Zeroes — Brother Zero is incompetent and doesn't want to be evil, while Sister Zero is far more intelligent and wishes to be a competent villainess (but even she has some incompetency up until the climax).
