"Why, I've never felt better in my whole life. Well, if you'll excuse me now, I think I have to finish breaking the breakfast dishes."
Oscar, Sesame Street

A character just learns some piece of news. They stand up, excuse themselves, go outside to react to the news offscreen (laughter, anger, frustration...), and return as though nothing had happened. Sometimes this happens several times in a row.

The reason why varies, sometimes that they don't want to mock a character to their face or have friends/coworkers see them be Not So Stoic, there are children present, or even because overt displays of emotion are considered unprofessional.

Sister trope to Running Away to Cry and Bad Mood Retreat. Compare Holding in Laughter, Trying Not to Cry. Contrast Get Out!.
