Main Characters

     Lelouch Lamperouge

Lelouch Lamperouge/Zero/Lelouch vi Britannia

The founder of the original Order of the Black Knights, co-founder of the United Federation of Nations, and lastly became the 99th Emperor of Britannia after he was betrayed by the original Black Knight founding members. He died at the completion of the Zero Requiem, but his body was kept perfectly preserved to study his Geass. However, Nunally wanted her brother to be brought back in the future to live the full life he didn't get feeling it was unfair for all of the sacrifices and sins he had to endure.

When asked by C.C., Suzaku and Jeremiah to become Zero again to save the Galaxy from the threat of PACT he refuses, at first at least.

  • Ace Pilot: Somewhat averted, although in the original series Lelouch's piloting skills were above average at best and couldn't hold a candle to other ace pilots like Kallen and Suzaku. At best he could hold his own against similarity skilled pilots for a time. However, since learning how to pilot a Ryder that has been tunned for him, Lelouch has resolved to address this problem by at least improving his piloting skills in the event he does need to take to the field.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: As the leader of the Black Knights Lelouch qualifies, but in important battles he joins his men in battle piloting his own Commander-type Ryder, and has gradually improved as a pilot to hold his own if need be.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Despite the difference in Technoloy in the era he has awoken in when he was brought back, he adapts quickly with help. He also notices and devices new tactics and plans on the fly using details sometimes overlooked by others especially in a tense situation.
  • Back from the Dead: Lelouch is resurrected by advance technology obtained from Diode before its destruction which took a few years before he was brought back.
  • Badass Bookworm: In a short time after his revival, thanks to some extensive studying and tutoring, he adapts to the more futuristic setting of the Sunrider universe, and further study allows him to create new tactics and offer ideas to Lloyd for new ships to make the most use of those tactics giving him a leg up against Space Pirates and other foes using outdated ships and tactics.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Although his sister Nunnally is long dead, he still has these instincts and it helps him bond with Kayto and even offering ways to help mend Kayto and Maray's relationship when the two siblings become divided over a serious issue.
  • Broken Ace: A young man who had gained a mystic power and changed the world, even conquering it before he was out of high school, Lelouch had accomplished a LOT in two years. However, following his revival, although he does intend to honor Nunnally's wish to live a full life and does not plan to commit suicide. However, the events of the original series leading up to the Zero Requiem has left Lelouch feeling bitter and undeserving of the second chance at life he was given and even less reluctant to become Zero again since he has no stake in this conflict. Especially since just about everyone he knew and fought for has died. However, he does become more attached to Cera, his second home, through his friendship with Ava and Kayto. Then once Ava finds out the truth about his past and why he was brought back she literally slaps some scene into him finally convincing him to take up the mantle once more .
  • Dark and Troubled Past: The assassination of his mother, Nunnally being crippled, then exiled to Japan with Nunnally mere months before Britannia invades Japan, not bothering to attempt to retrieve them assuming they would die which Lelouch assumed at the time would give his homeland a better reason to invade Japan. The come the events of Code Geass which to sum it up he accidently kills the father of one of his friends who had a crush on him, accidently uses his Geass on his beloved half-sister causing her to kill hundreds forcing Lelouch to kill her, loses the life of the girl whose father he had accidently, professing her love for him as she dies, and then being betrayed by his followers and his sister being killed, or so he thought, driving him to create the Zero Requiem .
  • Fatal Flaw: In the original series his stubbornness, arrogance and pride were his most dangerous flaws, but averted after being revived and forming the Black Knights, Lelouch has learned from many of his past mistakes working to avoid them as the new Zero and leading the new incarnation of the Black Knights.
  • Fish Outof Temporal Water: Lelouch is brought back over a hundred years after his demise, which he is then introduce to the fact humans live spread across the galaxy and they have technology centuries ahead of what his planet had. Thanks to C.C. and Michael he does adapt very quickly and fits in perfectly well thanks to their efforts.
  • Foil: to Venizcar S. Arcadius/Alice Ashada, both had a traumatic event that changed them sending down a darker path, both suffered the death of a loved one with different effects on them, became masked revolutionary leader driven by revenge against those who wronged them. However their end goals couldn't be more different .
  • Guilt Complex: Averted, thanks in part to Ava, Suzaku, indirectly Kayto, and C.C.. It was this complex that drove him to his demise at the end of R2, but while he hasn't cleared himself of all of the actions he committed he feels guilty towards, he has found a way to move forward and aspire to do things right this time upon becoming Zero again. He at least sees it as a chance to make amends despite knowing he'll never be truly forgiven, but if he can prevent someone from walking the same bloody path as he did, and spare them of the pain and guilt then that would be acceptable too .
  • History Repeats: Lelouch feels this will happen to Cera, seeing the similarities between Japan and Cera, both were nations who were successful despite their small size, but lacked the resources and military might to defend against a much larger and more powerful invader. Noticing these similarities and not wanting to see Kayto and Maray go through what he went through after bonding with them is among the factors that convinces him to become Zero once more .
  • Magical Eye: His Geass, which he has retained despite his death much to his own shock. Like before it allows him to give an order and the victim would be compelled to obey it no matter what, but it works It Only Works Once per person unless Jeremiah uses his Geass Canceller on them. Seeing him prepare to use it against Lynn is what clues Arcadius in that Zero might be the original one given his Geass and its power .
  • The Dreaded: After defeating Captain Kidd and his pirate fleet, Lelouch becomes this to many space pirates in the Neutral Rim. Even Cosette steers clear of him, which is mentioned later .
  • Trauma Congaline: See Dark and Troubled Past above, Lelouch's life and events of the series was not kind to him despite his successes as Zero. Its the scars of those events and the sins he committed that and everyone he had lost that makes him feel unworthy of the second chance he has and makes him reluctant to take upon the mantle of Zero again.
  • The Chessmaster: It wouldn't be Lelouch if he wasn't, but his abilities as a leader and cunning strategist has only improved over time such as taking advantage of the lack of new innovation in space and Ryder battles to create some new innovations to go head-to-head against those who would bring superior numbers to a fight. While taking steps to be one step ahead of PACT and doing all he can be prepared.

    Kayto Shields

Kayto Shields

The protagonist of the Sunrider games and its main character. When he is introduced he is a high school student and Vice-President of the Student Council when Lelouch joins as its third and only other member. He is destined to become the Captain of the Sunrider in time, so following high school he joins the Cera Space Force.

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Kayto winning against impossible odds using his wits seems to be natural talent of his, earning the rank of Captain and this trope.
  • Big Brother Instinct: As much as they bicker and Kayto getting annoyed with her antics, he and Maray do care about one another a lot.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Lelouch encourages Kayto to use this as a way to bridging the recent rift between him and his sister Maray as Cera becomes divided over an incident with PACT that nearly resulted in Maray and her class being attacked by a overzealous PACT ship chasing down some refugees escaping from their territory. To help mend the bridges between the two Shields siblings, Lelouch acknowledges both sides of the conflict, points out the pros and cons of each argument, with Kayto agreeing with the sound reasoning behind the examples Lelouch offered and decided to try it. We don't know how successful this was.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Kayto tends to have this affect, and not helped during high school he had his far number of crushes as noted by Ava, even including Ava himself.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Kayto becomes this when facing the Ivory Web because his ship is badly damaged and facing it head on would've gotten everyone killed, so he had to use his wits, a transponder beacon as bait, rigged with a nuclear warhead and a surprise attack from behind to win and survive .
  • David vs. Goliath : During a training mission Kayto and the ship he is serving as XO on is attacked by the Ivory Web, the sole survivor of Captain Kidd's fleet and possessing more armor and guns meaning their ship was no match in a head on battle. Something his superior didn't understand, but after his demise Kayto devised a plan to bait the more dangerous pirate ship into a clever trap allowing them to attack the ship's vulnerable engines until flew into a nuclear bomb they had planted sinking the ship and saving the lives of those aboard, and silencing any naysayers that he wasn't fit to captain the Sunrider .
  • Publicity Stunt: Ends up as one because the Cera was desperate for a propaganda win to boost the image and capability of their military, something Shields' superiors admit to him and Kayto himself is embarrassed by it. But it does secure his role to captain the Sunrider with no one unable to prove he isn't the best choice and gaining sufficient public support for the construction of the Sunrider to move ahead.
  • The Captain: He shall become the Captain of the Sunrider on the day Cera is to fall, but until that time he is given moments to prove that he is the right man for the job in some of the story's chapters.
  • The Good Captain: Becomes this after saving the crew of the Star of Cera he was serving on as an XO for training with a unexpected plan to sink a deadlier enemy.
  • The Strategist: As Lelouch notices, Kayto has a keen eye and good instincts only needing experience to develop it further, which he is proven right when Kayto devises a plan to sink a far more dangerous pirate ship because his ship was too outmatched and badly damaged to face head-on.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Kayto proves to this as both Vice-President of the Student Council and an officer of the Cera Space Force before becoming captain while trying to reason with a foolish superior during a training mission that almost ended badly.

    Ava Crescentia

Ava Crescentia

Kayto Shield's childhood friend and one year his senior in his high school while the Student Council President during her senior year. Her strict and uncompromising on the rules and enforcing them along aliened the Student Council with Kayto and later Lelouch being the only once who stayed with her to the end. She joins the Cera Space Force, but an encounter and learning the truth behind Lelouch's past left a lasting impression.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Tall and beautiful, Ava is distant and professional keeping a respectable distance from others. Even in high school, which carried on into her adult years.
  • Defector from Decadence: Ava becomes this after her show of support for a protest against the Cera government gets her and others kicked out of the Cera Space Force, causing her to join the Black Knights in response .
  • Hime Cut: her preferred and signature hair style.
  • Only Sane Woman: Following her encounters with Lelouch and discovering the truth behind his past becomes this, especially as Ava learns from reliable sources via Lelouch that plans to invade the Neutral Rim. A concern that grows stronger following an incident involving Cera College students on research field trip leading to much public outrage. Her effort to support a group of politicians and military officers to push the government to make preparations for a potential invasion, but this results in her getting dismissed from the Cera Space Force .
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Due to her upbringing Ava is this as a strict follower of rules and regulations as a result of having a very strict military man for a father. She was like this in high school and has carried on into her adult years.
  • Student Council President: Ava was the student council president during her last year in high school. While she wanted to bring change for the student body her very strict and uncompromising leadership only alienated the rest of the council leaving Kayto and Lelouch as its only members. The failure to accomplish anything meaningful and its members abandoning her left the impression on Ava that she was not cut out for being a leader, although Lelouch notes that being high school the students likely lacked her motivation to do any positive changes.
  • Workaholic: Ava's most defining trait, which has been since her high school days and Student Council President, so much so the subject of vacation and fun doesn't mean much to her. In one of the later chapter she is basically forced to take Shore Leave by her superiors. This was caused by her father who was a strict military man who constantly pushed her to work harder.

Order of the Black Knights

The new generation of Black Knights founded by Lelouch with the aid of C.C., Suzaku and Jeremiah and one Anonymous Benefactor as Lelouch built the organization up over the next couple years following graduating from High School.

     General

  • Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better: Like those who play the Sunrider games, many conclude and invest their upgrade points and funds to boosting the Sunrider's kinetic weapons. Lelouch does this in story rarely relying on lasers after studying the Alliance and Imperial War and building on the fact that most folks still fight using tactics from a hundred years ago using lasers to fight enemy fleets at range until the creation of shield technology limited their effectiveness, but they can be bypassed by kinetic weapons, so most Black Knight ships and Ryders use advance kinetic weapons developed from the VARIS rifle used to devastating effect.
  • La Résistance: The Black Knights become this in opposition to PACT and to other scum and Space Pirates of the Neutral Rim.
  • Quality over Quantity: Lelouch knew the Black Knights could never hope to match PACT , so he pursued a quality over quantity policy knowing too that PACT was reusing old Imperial warships with minor upgrades and improvements. Not to mention many of their rank and file soldiers fought with outdated tactics, so Lelouch had Lloyd design their ships and weapons to take advantage of their outdated use of tactics and older ships. Gaining access to a lot of Lost Technology was very helpful allowing Lloyd to create their ships and Ryders using reserved engineered Ancient Ryuvian tech.

    C.C.

C.C.

The immortal and pizza loving witch responsible for giving Lelouch his Geass, and was among those who helped keep Lelouch's body safe until the time came to bring him back per Nunnally's wishes. However, soon he had to be brought back for a different reason. She serves as one of the core leaders of the new generation of the Black Knights, providing funds and logistical support using the interplanety pizza and entertainment empire she built in the Solar Alliance during its founding days, even providing the funding to bring Lelouch back.

  • Complete Immortality: The result of her Code of Immortality, which makes C.C. completely immortal allowing to survive anything that would kill a normal human including being blown up or vaporized. She doesn't age and sickness and hunger isn't a problem either obviously.
  • The Confidant: C.C. serves as this to Lelouch, especially once the Black Knights are reformed once again under his leadership.

     Jeremiah Gottwald

Jeremiah Gottwald

The most devoted and loyal to Lelouch is Jeremiah Gottwald, who was once a guard at the villa Lelouch's mother lived at before her demise then through a series of events ends up swearing complete loyalty to her son Lelouch. Even as Emperor, he served Lelouch and soon was made to tend an orange farm following his assassination. However, he knew one day his majesty would be brought back to life so he did all he could to await the day so that he may serve Lelouch once more, becoming a founding member of the new incarnation of the Black Knights.

  • Been There, Shaped History: After Earth was conquered by the New Empire, Jeremiah would join Compact as C.C. and others did to help topple it. He fought alongside Compact for almost a hundred years until they finally defeated the Empire at the Sack of New Eden, but left soon afterwards to rejoin Lelouch and form the Black Knights, taking those disgruntled with the direction Arcadius was taking PACT towards.
  • Four-Star Badass: Jeremiah is Lelouch's second in command within the new Black Knights, sometimes taking care of administrative and military-related duties when need be. His decades of fighting experience from his time in the Holy Britannian Empire, the original Black Knights and Compact before joining Lelouch more than makes him qualified for the position.
  • Undying Loyalty: Jeremiah waited over a hundred years awaiting the day Lelouch would return to serve him once more, and he will carry out any order Lelouch gives him.

     Lloyd Asupland

Lloyd Asupland

Formerly the head of the Holy Britannian Empire's research and development division Camelot creating the Lancelot and other machines. After Earth was found and introduced to the larger galaxy, Lloyd was determined to explore and expand his knowledge, but he was very old by then so he transferred his brain into an android body which he has upgraded and improved over the years modeled after his younger appearance in his prime. He joins the Black Knights as a founding member to use his genius to design and create new ships and Ryders for them, elevated by the fact he can make weapons again.

  • Brain in a Jar: The only organic part of Lloyd left, and to him the only thing most important to him.
  • Brain/Computer Interface: Among the capabilities of his new body is this, he can either use a wire to connect directly to a computer or his hands, can Rapid-Fire Typing if no connection port is available for him.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: Averted, despite having long abandoned his original human body, after upgrading it with cybernetics to prolong his life before abandoning it all together for an android body to house his brain in, but Lloyd for the most part has remained unchanged.
  • For Science!: Lloyd's standard motivation, and acts like a Manchild when he gets his hands on Lost Technology to play with and fiddle with.
  • Hidden Weapons: Lloyd's android body includes hidden weapons, like his hands have razor-sharp projectiles that can be fire from the palms of his hands, and he has a built-in force field for defense.
  • Man in the Machine: Lloyd is this due to willingly abandoning his old human body and transplanting his brain into a android body modeled after his younger appearance.
  • Mad Scientist: Naturally, Lloyd once developed weapons for the Holy Britannian Empire who wanted to conquer the world. Lloyd himself didn't care how his weapons were used and was content with creating them. In fact he had trouble finding employment in the Galaxy since not many were interested in his designs, and while he could've worked for the New Empire he avoided them due to being denied the proper budget and creative freedom he wanted. So he happily joins the Black Knights since Lelouch needs ships and Ryders to match PACT, and Lloyd is more than happy to provide especially as he gains access to Lost Technology to play with.
  • The Sociopath: Lloyd has admitted to this in past, admitting he was born with an abandoned heart. However, there have been some hints this may not be the case.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Lloyd's body is actually an android designed after his younger appearance, which you cannot tell its a machine. Initially he gradually replaced parts of his body with cybernetics to live well beyond his natural lifespan, until he eventually converting his whole body , then at some point he transferred his brain into a android body that was better than cybernetic one.

     Milly Ashford

Milly Ashford

A founding member of the Black Knights who is put in charge of overseeing recruitment efforts across the Neutral Rim. She and Lelouch are reunited after over a hundred years while remaining relatively youthful other than being in her early thirties with no explanation given to his longevity.

  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Even after a hundred years and being much wiser than before, Milly has changed very little and retains many of her odd quirks, much to the annoyance of Ava while she was Student Council President.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Milly snaps at Lelouch once they are in private after meeting again questioning him on his actions and why he had hidden what he had been doing behind her back. She understood why she did it, and why he kept her out of the loop, but the Zero Requiem was going too far that left her very upset.

     Lynn Ashada

Lynn Ashada

Formerly known as L7nn, one of the Prototypes, an advance race of artificial humans where Lynn was dispatched by PACT to test the Black Knights, and if she got captured infiltrate their ranks and learn all she could. Unfortunately for her, Arcadius underestimate who she was dealing with and in a moment of fear she cut Lynn off from the other Prototypes to protect the rest of them from being affected by Lelouch's Geass while erasing some parts of her memories to protect the rest of the Prototypes.

Confused and left at a loss as she has been abandoned, Lelouch spared her hoping he could still learn as much as possible about the Prototypes before making the risky decision to employ her as an Engineer and pilot among the Black Knights after Lynn shows signs of growing anger at her abandonment and the fact that she was ultimately expandable .

  • Artificial Human: Lynn was artificially grown and born in a nutrient-filled tube alongside many of her sisters who serve Arcadius with her mind possessing all the knowledge she would need while benefiting from the fact Prototypes like her are genetically engineered to be better than humans on a biological level possessing hyper intelligence through their genetically enhanced brains.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Not at first, but the fact Lelouch a human was able to outwit and defeat her while clearing inspiring fear in Arcadius she uses this to justify why a Prototype would work under a human.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Lynn becomes this, working with the Black Knights to help study and reverse engineer Prototype technology and even help Lloyd design new machines to counter them.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Gradually Lynn's growing resentment over being abandoned by her "sisters" and Lelouch's own efforts causes Lynn to begin aiding the Black Knights by first helping understand Prototype Technoloy and creating new Ryders and ships alongside Lloyd to counter them.
  • Insufferable Genius: Shows shades of this as she becomes more comfortable working for the Black Knights, competing with Lloyd at times. Although, some among the Black Knights acknowledge she is easier to approach than Lloyd .
  • You Are Number 6: Lynn's original name was L7nn, part of the L7 series of Prototypes meant to carry out the will of their leaders in battle as she did when she engaged Lelouch and the Black Knights, having held an advantage over them due to possessing a superior machine combined with her genetically augmented piloting skills.

     Maray Shields

Maray Shields

The younger sister of Kayto, whom Lelouch meet while attending high school with Kayto and Ava. A cheerful, precocious and mischievous young girl when Lelouch met her. However, years after their first meeting Lelouch mets Maray again while attending college. Although she has matured in some ways, she hasn't changed too much. She ends up joining the Black Knights after she is expelled from college for taking part in a poltical rally against Cera's current government.

  • Ace Pilot: Maray showing a surprising amount of aptitude for piloting a Ryder becoming the best of her training group after joining the Black Knights.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Proves to be worthy of what is the successor to the Lancelot created by Lloyd called the Andraste, which is one of the newest Super Prototype Ryders created that mixes Prototype technology with reversed Ancient Ryuvian technology to go against the Prototypes and their machines. On her first battle with it in chapter 21, she takes on dozens of PACT Ryders on her own with help from Hana piloting her own Super Prototype, the successor to the Guren.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Plays a LOT of eroges and Yaoi video games on her holo during her younger days, which in the Sunrider Academy game Kayto notes her holo is full of such things along with digital receipts for sexy panties. In the story this is no different, especially with Maray wanting details on Kayto's sex life. However, she seems to have grown out of it by the time she is in college, or maybe not...
  • Defector from Decadence: After getting unjustly expelled from college, and overhearing Ava and Lelouch talk in which the former joins the Black Knights, Maray does the same.
  • Romantic Wingman: Tries to be this for Kayto, despite refusing every time.
  • Shipper on Deck: She ships Kayto and Ava, but she hardly seems to be picky even once teasing Kayto if he might be interested in boys instead, much to his annoyance.
  • Super Prototype: Lloyd picks her to pilot a Ryder he designed based upon the Lancelot called the Andraste. She takes it into battle during events of chapter 21, where she proceeds to mop the floor with PACT Ryders.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After joining the Black Knights, Maray quickly proves to be a born natural piloting a Ryder having good instincts and reflexes.
  • You Watch Too Much X: Kayto notes and even tells Maray she needs to stop playing Yaoi and eroge video games, she doesn't listen.

     Michael Garibaldi

Michael Garibaldi

Lelouch's first ally upon awakening after his death and resurrection, he helps Lelouch escape the Pandora facility and reach Cera to reunite with C.C. He has since been a reliable ally and trusted founding member of the Black Knights handling their Intelligence Division. Formerly a freelancer and information broker, skills and connections he has put to use as a leader of the Black Knights.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Befitting his role, Garibaldi can read people and figure out their habits and quirks given enough time, and is gifted in digging up dirt on anyone no matter how well they hide it. Its these skills and others that made him ideal to head Black Knight's intelligence division and oversee the background checks of every new recurit to bar any spies from getting into their ranks.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Lelouch during the invasion of the space station he was resurrected upon and then helping him escape the pirates and the station itself before it self-destructs.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to be this to some people, especially C.C.
  • Expy: Based upon the character of the same name from Babylon 5 .
  • The Mentor: For a short time helping Lelouch get caught up on galactic history and need to know every day information that would help him fit in. Overtime he helps learn military tactics used by the galaxy at large and more tutoring him during his days in high school on other subjects.
  • Properly Paranoid: Given his work before Lelouch and the Black Knights, this is understandable and it also helps him conduct complete checks on anyone joining the Black Knights.

     Eustace Kenway

Eustace Kenway

Formerly of the Cera Space Force, Captain Kenway becomes one of the original four captains of the Black Knights and part of the military leadership for the growing organization. Fair and practical, Kenway is popular among his fellow Black Knights for his leadership and calm judgements while unwilling to do anything that would go against what the Black Knights stand for even through he knows war with PACT is coming and wars cannot always be fought cleanly. He is Captain of the Excalibur-class ship the Oberon.

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Being one of the highest ranked of the Black Knights and a leading captain who has boldly followed Lelouch into battle against tough odds always coming out on top qualifies.
  • Four-Star Badass: As one of the top captains of the Black Knights and having commanded one of their new advance ships against Pirates and other threats, definitely qualifies for this.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Serves as this among the Black Knights, especially during meetings and to counter a certain fellow captain's blood knight tendencies.
  • The Captain: One of the top captains and commanders of the Black Knights for his command ability, fearless and dedication to the cause of the Black Knights.
  • The Good Captain: Viewed as this by his crew who respect him greatly.
  • The Paragon: Serves as this to the Black Knights and counter to Captain Rosarita Cisneros Blood Knight .

     Rosarita Cisneros

Rosarita Cisneros

Formerly a guerilla fighter before joining the Black Knights and rising through the ranks to become one of the core leaders as Captain of one of their new advance ships. Ruthless and deadly in battle, Cisneros believes in the cause of the Black Knights. Besides being a captain Rosarita trains the Black Knight marines and guerilla fighters even commanding of squad of some of her best. She is Captain of the Excalibur-class the Dominion.

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Not only is she one of the Black Knight's Blood Knight (see below), a skilled and competent captain respected by her crew, and she will join her men on boarding enemy ship and even take part in operations requiring her skills as a guerilla fighter for tasks that require on a hands-on approach.
  • Blood Knight: Cisneros is ruthless in battle and among the most deadly of the Black Knights, not just as a Captain, but deadly in a fight as she is just as willing to cut down enemies with a knife or mow them down as the mission requires. Sometimes she clashes with Kenway over suggesting the more ruthless and morally questionable approaches.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Typically subjects this to other unfortunate enough to cross her or be enemies to be eliminated. But, in chapter 17 she ends up on the receiving end of one at the hands of Sola along with her best Marines .
  • Determinator: Once Cisneros is set to do a task, nothing short of death or an order from Lelouch will stop her. She even has a frightening level of superhuman pain tolerance.
  • Expy: If the name didn't give it away, she is based off of Rosarita Cisneros from Black Lagoon
  • Guerilla Fighter: Cisneros started off her career as one, and a highly effective and dangerous one she is famous for.
  • A Father to His Men: A female version of this, because as ruthless and rough as Cisneros can be, she does care for those under her command and in return they respect her.
  • The Captain: One of the three top captains of the Black Knights and a good one.
  • The Dreaded: Cisneros has a fearsome reputation as a guerilla fighter, and her skills proves it.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: Cisneros is not without morals and genuinely believes in the cause of the Black Knights, but she is most dangerous among the Black Knights with her combat skills which allowed her and a small group of her men to swiftly and efficiently clean out a apartment complex filled with Captain Kidd's men without raising the alarm until they had no choice. Even then Ciseneros is not someone you want to be an enemy of.

     Isadora Sergeyevna

Isadora Sergeyevna

The third captain among the Black Knights forming the core of their military leadership alongside Kenway and Cisneros. She is initially not as experienced as her two senior captains, she is still very capable having earned the position of captain of one of the new Excalibur-class ships, commanding the Avalon.

  • Plucky Girl: Isadora is characterized as such being newer to the role of captain unlike Cisenros and Kenway, but it doesn't mean she isn't capable.
  • The Heart: Sometimes serves as this between Kenway and Cisenros.
  • Ensign Newbie: Isadora is the first captain trained among the Black Knights, begining from the bottom before working her way up to Captain, with no prior experience unlike Kenway and Cisenros.
  • The Good Captain: Despite her lack of experience unlike her peers she is respected by her crew and very competent.

     Sola vi Ryuvia

Sola vi Ryuvia

A Warrior Princess from thousands of years in the past during the height of the Holy Ryuvian Empire, and their hero the Sharr of Ryuvia. Stories would've said that led the Empire's fleets into battles against a pretender to the throne who murdered his own father and Sola had heroically sacrificed herself using the ultimate weapon of Ancient Ryuvia to end the civil war.

Except that is not what really happened, the truth was, or at least assumed by both Lelouch and Sola herself, is that Sola's father the Second Prince, Commodus vi Ryuvia, murdered his father and older half-brother, the First Prince Hadrian, to seize the throne intending to blame it all on his other half-brother Crow Harbor. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned and Crow declared war beginning one of the bloodiest civil wars in Ancient Ryuvia's history with no clear winner in sight. Forced to use their deadliest weapon to end the conflict, but it required the sacrifice of a Royal Princess to activate. The true Princess of Ryuvia was unwilling to sacrifice herself, being too greedy and self-important to do so, managed to track down Sola who was used as a Scapegoat to active it in her place.

The rest has been forgotten by history sadly, but Sola, despite the Sharr' Lac's activation survived, being found and awaken thousands of years later.

  • All for Nothing: Ultimately what her intended self-sacrifice amounted, although she shockingly survived, to as the Holy Ryuvian Empire collapsed hundreds of years later.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Lelouch, Cisneros and some Black Knight marines learned this the hard way. As quiet as Sola can be, she can be very dangerous outside of a Ryder and in one.
  • Cold Sniper: Sola is aloof and distant, who highly skilled with a sniper rifle, due to skills she developed as a hunter living off the land.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Born as the result of Commodus having a short-lived affair with a farm girl before dumping her upon being bored with her. Sola was raised alone by her mother who would watch her waste away waiting for a man who didn't love her to come back for her. She learned to fend for herself living a quiet existence surviving off of what she grew in the garden and what she hunted. But it lasted until her father had need of her to use as a Sacrificial Pawn, being forced to do so and kept in chains until she realized the danger the people of the Empire faced before accepting the task.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Awakens after nearly two thousand years spent in stasis much to her own surprise since the activation of the Empire's ultimate weapon should've killed her. She is even more stunned that despite it, the Ryuvian Empire fell apart hundreds of years later.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Sola does this unintentionally after barely awakening from stasis, fearing and under the assumption something had gone wrong assuming Lelouch and his men belong to Crow. She attacked them and despite being naked as the day she was born she defeated the Black Knight Marines and Cisneros in battle. She would've made a mess of Lelouch if he hadn't used his Geass on her in time.
  • Good Feels Good: Sola admits while she resented being dragged away to clean up her father's mess, and ultimately give her life for it. She acknowledges the cheers of the crowd and being hailed as a hero by the people of the Empire was one of the happiest days she experienced.
  • Heroic Bastard: Born as the result of an affair between a corrupt Ryuvian Prince and a farm girl.
  • Heroic R Ro D: Even through she is a not a true full-blooded member of the Ryuvian Royal Family she does gain notable benefits from her father's genetics. By drawing upon her royal bloodline's innate abilities, Sola can increase her visual perception and reflexes to superhuman levels, but doing so places a great strain on her body so she cannot use it for long periods like some true blooded members of the Royal Family.
  • Hidden Backup Prince: Or Princess in this case, and likely an unintentional case as Sola is the bastard daughter of Ryuvian royalty. Thanks to her royal blood she is able to command their fleets as the Sharr of Ryuvia and active technology keyed to the genetics of the royal bloodline. Being "selected" so the real Princess wouldn't have to be sacrificed.
  • More Expendable Than You: How Sola was seen by the "True" Princess of Ryuvia at the time, likely her half-sister, who didn't want to be sacrificed and being far too selfish and greedy believing if she couldn't enjoy the wealth and power her role as Princess gave her then she would've been willing to let the Empire burn.

People's Alliance For Common Treatment

Formerly known as Compact, a rebel movement formed almost a hundred years ago to fight against the New Empire while supported by the Solar Alliance to topple the cruel and corrupt empire. They finally achieved their goal toppling the last Emperor of the New Empire some years ago, but they have very quickly turned into the very type of enemy they've spent decades trying to overthrow with plans to "liberate" the galaxy from imperialism and capitalist nations deeming them as corrupt and tyrannical as the Empire they overthrow, ignoring they were becoming just that.

     General

  • Commie Land: PACT seems to possess a communist philosophy with their ships being painted red and there are some allusions to the Russian Revolution and rise of Communism, but they are becoming increasingly as imperialistic as those they rebelled against .
  • Dirty Communists: PACT seems to fit this bill and they are clearly based upon this possessing red ships and uniforms. Even Arcadius and others who denounce capitalism and imperialists, and also they were once a popular revolutionary movement fighting against the corrupt and decadent New Empire, until they won and then ...
  • He Who Fights Monsters: This is what became of Compact as a whole when it transformed into PACT after overthrowing the New Empire. There were some aware of these changes and tried to fight it, with Arcadius putting these elements down or exiling them. Or some like Jeremiah led them to join Lelouch to form the Black Knights. Even their goal of freeing their corner of the galaxy from the evils of imperialism and the New Empire has been twisted into liberating the galaxy from such evil by any means necessary.

     Veniczar S. Arcadius/ Alice Ashada

Veniczar S. Arcadius/ Alice Ashada

The mysterious leader of PACT, which is in fact an identity assumed by all previous leaders of Compact to present the idea of an immortal leader within their ranks. Arcadius vanished for a short time after the Sacking of New Eden which saw the overthrow of the New Empire, but reappeared some time later converting Compact over to PACT as they seized control of the resources and armies of the New Empire who swore loyalty to the new regime.

Driven by the belief that Solar Alliance is a decadent capitalist nation who manipulate and puppeteer the worlds of the Neutral Rim who are controlled by corrupt leader and imperialist rulers. Ruthless, cunning, megalomaniacal, and driven in his goals, the masked leader of PACT will "liberate" Galaxy and burn down everything in his way.

  • Arch-Enemy: To Zero/Lelouch, especially as the Black Knights start growing into a concerning threat that could complicate their plans. More so once Arcadius realizes its the original Zero commanding the Black Knights armed with a Geass that can dominate the minds of others, But she doesn't know it can only work on a person once unless Jeremiah uses his Canceller on them .
  • Affably Evil: Despite being an bloodthirsty and ruthless tyrant who will not hesitant to brutally oppress any planet refusing to kneel or stage a revolt against PACT, Arcadius is surprisingly cordial with a select few, but is otherwise cold to their underlings giving praise when earned and in some rare cares can be forgiving to a failed underling provided its a rare event or if they not wholly incompetent.
  • Artificial Human: Through events surrounding Lynn, Lelouch learns that Arcadius is one of the Prototypes, a genetically enhanced being.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Technically the name Arcadius and the mask have been passed down to every leader of Compact since its founding, not only to provide the image of a immortal leader, but also to protect the current leader of Compact from the New Empire while making it difficult for them to really know if they got the real leader of Compact or not. The current Arcadius leading PACT is the latest in the line of leaders to inherit the mask, name and position of leader.
  • Evil Overlord: As the leader of PACT given their goals and ruthless actions.
  • Galactic Conqueror: Arcadius's stated goal, under the guise of liberation.
  • Hive Queen: technically Alpha Prototype is the true core of the Prototype Hive Mind and the Hive Queen, but due to Alice having been the first Prototype from which the others are based on her she can control or hijack any Prototype to control them directly .
  • I Am Legion: Lynn is revealed to be one of many clones controlled by Arcadius, and they can easily produce more to replace any lost.
  • Royal "We": Refers to themselves with plurals like “we”, “us” or "ours", foreshadowing their true nature as a collective rather than an individual, although they are controlled by a single individual while the rest are expendable .

     Veniczar B. Fontana

Veniczar B. Fontana/Seisar Fontana

Veniczar S. Arcadius's right hand man, second-in-command, and in charge of its research and development. Despite his young age he is an exceptionally brilliant young man in matters of politics, military and engineering. He is favored to potentially succeed Arcadius as the next leader of PACT, but unlike his comrades he has some reservations about PACT's current path.

  • Even Evil Has Standards / Everyone Has Standards: He expresses in private concerns about the current direction PACT in, especially their planned galactic conquest while funneling resources to expand the army instead of taking care of the people who haven't recovered from the cruelty of the New Empire. More so he is worried by Arcadius's increasing ruthlessness, having known the Arcadius before the current one controlling PACT .
  • The Dragon: Arcadius's second-in-command.
  • Noble Top Enforcer: Fontana stands out as being the less ruthless and defiantly not cruel unlike some like Cullen and others who have happily embraced PACT's current path towards bloody conquest. He greatly believes in PACT and its cause, but has doubts about the path of bloodshed they are on.

     Veniczar B. Cullen

Veniczar B. Cullen/Bas Cullen

A former Imperial Admrial who defected to Compact during the Sack of New Eden allowing Compact to overthrow the Empire, which allowed Cullen a high rank within the new PACT much to dismay of many. A portly man who is greedy and self-serving who serves Arcadius, both out of fear and the fact he is allowed to ruthlessly brutalize anyone Arcadius sends him against while his greed, hedonistic tendencies and poor skills as a leader has earned him resentment and mockery from his peers.

  • Fat Bastard: Aptly so, and fits the bill given his arrogant, hedonistic and greed combined with brutality and ruthlessness. Even being willing to nuke cities from orbit, even if a world has surrendered to make an example of them.
  • The Brute: Cullen prefers to deal with most battles with overwhelming force and firepower.

     Veniczar C. Kururugi

Veniczar C. Kururugi/Suzaku Kururugi

Formerly the Knight of Seven, the Knight of Zero and the Second Zero following the death of the original at his own hands, Suzaku continued the role of Zero into his old age until Earth was conquered by the New Empire. At that point he joined Compact becoming one of its longest serving figures despite being well over a hundred years old. Lelouch's live command has forced Suzaku to keep himself alive using various methods such as cybernetics, genetic manipulation and other means avoiding drug that could negatively affect his body and mind.

Suzaku, despite his age, is known in the ranks of PACT as a fearsome commander and Ryder pilot and while he is dismissed as an old man, others in PACT greatly respect him.

  • Cool Old Guy: Basically Suzaku in his old age who is much wiser than he was when he was younger, although he is without his regrets he does do his best to serve as a model for the next leaders of PACT even offering wise words should they ask him.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Had to become this due to his body no longer being as fast and strong as it was in its prime, but Suzaku isn't any weaker for it. In fact his old age and the sheer amount of experience he gained over his unnaturally long life has made him more dangerous since he is relying more on his wits.
  • Determinator: Suzaku is this, which is part of what is keeping him alive and the other is the Geass order that Lelouch left upon him. Even despite his advance age Suzaku is determined to take some bold risks to lay the foundation for Arcadius's downfall.
  • Double Agent: Becomes one within PACT, feeding information to the Black Knights and even helping those who want to escape Arcadius flee while hiding his actions. Even when Arcadius, rightfully, suspects him Suzaku has already established a information network that allows others to continue his work while he uses Arcadius keeping an eye on them to divert attention away from them.
  • Feeling Their Age: Suzaku acknowledges he should've died years ago, but his desire to see Earth freed and Lelouch's Geass has helped him kept going using various methods to keep his body alive and in fighting shape. Even if he must rely on his wits and trickery, taking some pages out of Lelouch's own book of tactics.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Gives a speech to Lelouch that is basically this, although he understandably doesn't forgive Lelouch for some of the things he has done in past, some he acknowledges were unintentional. He knows he isn't one to talk either, and tries to convince Lelouch to take back the mantle of Zero from him. He fails, at first, but his words does plant the seeds for Lelouch to later don the mask again.

     Veniczar A. Kuushana

Veniczar A. Kuushana/Emil Kuushana

A former admiral of Compact and later PACT who was the very best military leader they had having defeated New Empire fleets with only smaller ships, earning her many nicknames and honors for her accomplishments. However, she greatly disagreed with the new direction Arcadius was taking PACT in, so Arcadius exiled her since executing such a popular leader could've caused divisions within PACT. Like Fontana she believes in PACT's cause, but she is much more open about her disapproval about the current path of bloodshed PACT is heading down leading to her exile.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Kuushana appears in one of the chapters meeting with Suzaku for a visit while checking on her and the soldiers under her command who were exiled with her. At the same time they discuss the current situation and concerns about Arcadius's actions.
  • Chest of Medals: When Suzaku meets her, she has several medals on her uniform, which are well earned as Suzaku knows.
  • Custom Uniform: Its unusual that her uniform is an actual military uniform instead of what most PACT leaders wear akin to what European aristocracts would wear.
  • David vs. Goliath: Kuushana made a career out of defeating enemies outnumbering her using only a small cluster of ships she gathered from a junk heap or seized from enemies to defeat forces better equipped and much larger than her own forces.
  • Everyone Has Standards: was deeply disgusted by the ruthless brutality Arcadius began showing upon coming to power, and she was not quiet about it making her disapproval clear.
  • The Dreaded: Suzaku is on a strange level glad Kuushana has been exiled, because if she did work for Arcadius then he feared she would've been one of the few people who could match Lelouch as a leader and strategist.
  • The Exile: Arcadius exiled Kuushana and her soldiers under her command to keep them out of the way, concerned that killing someone as renowned as her could cause unwanted problems from divisions within PACT.
  • Red Baron: Kuushana is known as Kuushana as the Many Miracles as a testament to her skills as a commander at beating enemy forces far larger than her own.

Solar Alliance

An alliance of worlds centered around their capital called Solaris, which since defeating the New Empire during the Alliance-Imperial War. Despite being outnumbered, and rallied under the banner of the legendary Admiral Madeline Grey the remaining free worlds joined to fight back against the New Empire. Discovering an ancient Ryder, also gave the Alliance an advantage against the New Empire to capitalize on allowing for the return of Ryders to military use.

Following the New Empire's defeat at the Battle of Solaris, which stunned the New Empire. Taking advantage of uprisings and the rise of the newly formed Compact resistance movement, while the New Empire was faced with internal power struggles combined the Ryuvian Empire attempting a resurgence lead to the Empire's defeat and forced to sign the Treaty of Vespa to end the conflict so the New Empire could try and fail to address its internal problems until it was overthrown nearly a century later. Opposite of the New Empire, the Solar Alliance grew becoming a galactic superpower as a economic and military powerhouse. They are led by an elected President with most of its power and decision making handled by Solar Congress on their capital.

     General

  • Democracy Is Flawed: At the time of its founding, the Solar Congress was very effective in working towards the best interest of their people and managing the resources from a hundred planets of class ten or more, rich with resources helping the Alliance enjoy enormous economic, military and technologic capabilities from these joint developments. BUT, this requires a staggering amount bureaucracy giving individual planets like Cera better infrastructure over the Alliance as a whole. Even worse, a string of weak presidents unable to unify the Alliance and Solar Congress has led to it being dominated more by public interest groups leaving people and worlds not part of the Core Worlds of the Alliance misrepresented.
  • Galactic Superpower: The Solar Alliance becomes this after winning the Alliance-Imperial War, where the New Empire would fall into decline over the next century, the Alliance would prosper. Currently its one of two superpowers in the Galaxy, with the other being PACT after Compact overthrew the New Empire.
  • La Résistance: The Alliance was also this during its founding days to repel the cruel and oppressive New Empire, enslaving worlds after conquering them.
  • The Alliance: The Solar Alliance is basically this with Solaris as their capital and all other planets part of the Solar Alliance pool their resources together across from other planets where unlike PACT and the New Empire drew their resources from a single planet. They also have a combined military composed of recruits drawn from across Alliance space and ships built upon different worlds using their collective resources.
  • Rag Tag Bunch Of Misfits: The Alliance started out as this against the New Empire which by that point had conquered most of the galaxy, based around Solaris which was merely a simple merchant world at the time. Before they defied expectations and defeated the New Empire at the Battle of Solaris.
  • We Have Become Complacent: The Alliance has become this, despite enjoying economic prosperity since its founding. However, overtime various lobbies and internal corruption along with other issues have been arising making direct governance impossible due to constant political deadlock in Solar Congress. A string of weak and ineffective Presidents hasn't helped matters either.

     Admrial Harold Grey

Admrial Harold Grey

One of the highest ranking military leaders of the Solar Alliance and Admiral of the Emerald Fleet, and also related to legendary Admrial Madeline Grey. He was among those to recognize the danger the newly formed PACT would become after it overthrew the New Empire, focusing on expanding its new military and arming themselves with the goal of conquering the Neutral Rim before moving onto the Solar Alliance.

Knowing that Solar Congress and its president wouldn't act until its too late, he supported C.C.'s plan using his connections to get the personnel and equipment together to bring back Lelouch . Since then he has proven to be an ally to the Black Knights behind the scenes supplying them with intel, resources and the use of a certain mercenary. However, despite their good relations and alliance, Lelouch has remained understandably cautious knowing Grey acts with the best interests of the Alliance in mind.

  • Chest of Medals: Admrial Grey has his uniform covered in a number of medals, all likely well earned .
  • Famous Ancestor: Is descended from Madeline Grey, a legendary admiral and a key founder of the Solar Alliance making Grey and his family well-known and respected within the Alliance, especially just about every member of the family has served in the military.
  • Generation Xerox: Grey and his family have all served in the Alliance military in one way or another since the founding of the Solar Alliance.
  • Meaningful Name: Grey has his own shares of grey to his character, which some characters note is fitting.
  • Southern Gentleman: His character design invokes this.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Promises this upon Captain Kidd for his actions against the Alliance and what he did to a close friend of his when he hijacked his ship to use as his own, upon Zero delivering Kidd to him.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist / Unscrupulous Hero: Fitting with his name. Grey is pragmatic and he is willing to do whatever it takes to win and secure the safety and future of the Solar Alliance. Lelouch is aware of this and is careful in his dealings with Grey while trying to be less dependent on the Alliance's support. Furthermore, Grey was the one who arranged the pirate attack on the space station that brought Lelouch back to eliminate witnesses and cover up his involvement knowing it would be a huge scandal. Then there is Icari who he makes use of to eliminate those beyond the Alliance's reach which raises some other questions about how far he'll go.

     Icari Isidolde

Icari Isidolde

A tough no-nonsense mercenary and assassin occasionally employed by Admrial Grey and recommended to the Black Knights to aid them in defeating Captain Kidd and his pirate fleet, before aiming to obtain and clean out his bank accounts of the funds PACT provided him with to weaken the Neutral Rim and remove the Black Knights as a threat. Noted to have a grudge against PACT, which makes her more than willing to ally with the Black Knights to inflict as much damage upon PACT as she can for a tragedy she suffered as a child.

She doesn't join the Black Knights, but she does become an ally of the group and is more than happy to accept any jobs for them as along as she can hurt PACT.

  • Ace Pilot: Despite using a Ryder with little armor , Icari is a skilled pilot wielding only machine guns as her only ranged weapons to deal with missiles and lightly armored enemies, Icari's anti-Ryder swords and speed allow her to come in close and decapitate enemy Ryders before they know what hit them rarely taking any damage despite her Ryder being lightly armed and armored.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Just as in her home game, Icari is still this according to Word of God.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Icari specializes in this, both as a Ryder pilot and outside of it. During the raid on Captain Kidd's complex she uses a katana against his men, which works well on enemies with personal forcefields justifying its use.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Both in gameplay and in story as Icari is a melee-focused Ryder combatant meant to get up close and personal to cut down enemy Ryders, while she lacks anything to destroy bigger than a Ryder since her swords cannot be used on ships in game.

Ryuvia

A long time ago, Ryuvia was a Galactic Superpower called the Holy Ryuvian Empire that once dominated the Galaxy at the height of its power. Possessing technology that was almost magical in nature that made their subjects view their Emperors as Gods.

BUT, today Ryuvia is a shadow of its former self after their galaxy-wide Emperor collapsed following a series of violent civil wars caused by battles for successions, which nearly wiped-out humanity and sent the whole galaxy into a dark age. It did experience a resurgence during the Alliance-Imperial War, but the Solar Alliance backstabbed them after allying against the New Empire ensuring Ryuvia's continued decline losing their chance to return to the glory days they once had. All Ryuvia has is their capital called Ryuvia Prime ruled by the survivors of the Royal Family of the former galactic superpower.

     General

  • Abusive Precursors: The Ancient Ryuvians and their Empire were this, not only did they enforce their rule upon the galaxy using their highly advance technology, but its implied that they wiped out all other alien races that could've competed against them or been a threat in the early founding of their Empire.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: During its days as a galactic superpower, EVERYONE in the Royal Court would assassinate competitors for the throne and wage destructive civil wars believing if they couldn't rule the Empire then no one would.
  • Decadent Court: Sola tells Lelouch about the usual politics of Ancient Ryuvia, calling its snake pit where betrayal and assassination was common.
  • Fatal Flaw: Greed, for the Ancient Ryuvians as Princes and Princesses vied for the throne willing to do whatever it took to gain the throne. They didn't care if their violent civil wars to claim the throne even assassinating members of their own family to claim power. This would result in the Ryuvian Empire's collapse and near extinction of the human race through the galaxy.
  • Lost Technology: Anicent Ryuvian Technogoly is this, such that even finding some can dramatically alter the galaxy just as the Solar Alliance found an old Ryuvian Ryder, which allowed them to reintroduce Ryders to warfare to gain an edge over the New Empire, discovery of shields and faster than light travel are the result of similar finds and rediscoveries of technology humanity once had which was lost during the Holy Ryuvian Empire's collapse.
  • Medieval Stasis: Mentions from Sola and Lelouch finding an ancient lost Ryuvian Colony seems to imply this was intentional on the Empire's part during its glory days to prevent their subjects from attempting any uprising against them. Access to technology was presumably decided by class and wealth with all of it held by the Royal Family to ensure their superiority over everyone else.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: When it came to the ultimate weapon of the Ryuvian Empire when they ruled the galaxy, the Sharr' Lac , designing it so the sacrifice of the Emperor's daughter was required to activate it in the hopes of discouraging its usage. Fearful that using them carelessly could destroy the galaxy at large, but...
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Lelouch compares the Holy Ryuvian Empire to the Holy Britannian Empire, but Lelouch called the Ancient Ryuvians MUCH worse than the Britannians at their worse.
  • The Empire: It was this during its golden years as the Holy Ryuvian Empire which ruled over the galaxy and its royal family was worshiped as gods. This all ended when a series of civil wars over the throne resulted in the Empire's collapse nearly destroying humanity in the process and sending the galaxy into a Dark Age.
  • The Rival: Lelouch discovers details suggesting Earth was the original cradle of humanity as opposed to the propaganda spread by the Ancient Ryuivans. They likely did battle with one another and then abandoned Earth leaving the survivors behind unable to leave the planet to isolate them, or might've been assumed destroyed by the founders of the Ryuvian Empire, allowing Earth to become what it is seen in Code Geass while the galaxy at large remained unaware of this for thousands of years .
  • Resurgent Empire: Ryuvia tries to be this during the Alliance-Imperial War, but the Alliance fearing a resurgent Ryuvia will become no better than the New Empire betrays their word to return their former territories becoming the Neutral Rim, reducing Ryuvia to a single backwater planet .
  • Vestigial Empire: What modern Ryuvia has been reduced to with only its original capital of Ryuvia Prime as its only holding.

     Asaga Di Ryuvia

Asaga Di Ryuvia

The Princess and next in line to the throne of Ryuvia being the descendant of the Holy Ryuvian Empire's rulers during its glory days. However, Asaga has no real interest in succeeding her father and becomes more interested in the exploits of the Black Knights and Zero. She is joined by her best friend Chigara, a genius inventor and sometimes the voice of reason.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: appears alongside Chigara long before PACT begins their invasion of the Neutral Rim watching the Black Knights on the news.
  • Fiery Redhead: Emotional, tomboyish, outspoken and energetic, fits this to a T.
  • Genki Girl: The most emotional and energetic among the cast so far introduced.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Asaga is a big fan of the Black Knights and Zero, further inspriing her desire to be a Hero of Justice herself.
  • Rebellious Princess: Asaga cares very little for the trappings of royalty and would rather not inherit the throne of Ryuvia and doing things no princess of her position would deem acceptable.
  • Tomboy Princess: Asaga, very much so.

     Chigara Lynn Ashada

Chigara Lynn Ashada

A genius inventor despite her young age and a survivor of the Diode disaster that destroyed her home. Her escape pod would end up arriving on Ryuvian Prime where she would encounter and befriend Asaga despite her status as royalty. A shy and modest inventor who has surprisingly modest life goals given her considerable intellect and capabilities as an inventor and engineer.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Appears in the same chapter as Asaga, long before events of the original game showing their days living on Ryuvia before the PACT invasion.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Chigara is smart enough to create things like a Pasty Replicator and likely much more as long as she has the right tools and the parts.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Despite her immense intellect and skills, Chigara could easily make a fortune with her inventions, but inspires to open a bakery and raise a family.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: She's shy, blue-haired, smart enough to build unbelievable inventions easily with the right tools, but is very modest wishing to start a bakery rather than easily using her smarts to make a fortune. Funny enough her friend Asaga is her natural opposite being a Fiery Redhead.
  • Sole Survivor: As far as Chigara knows, she believes she is the only survivor of Diode Catastrophe, in which her home along with much of the planet was consumed by artificial black hole in an experiment Gone Horribly Wrong. Or so she believes .
  • Third-Person Person: Something Chigara does once in awhile especially if she is nervous, being emotions or drunk.

Diode

A research colony on the edge of the galaxy and far away from civilized space. To the galaxy at large it was home of the collection of the galaxy's most brilliant minds accomplishing such feats such as reviving a brain-dead patient and more creating astonishing new innovations, but that all came to an end when an experiment went horrible wrong as an artificial black hole consumed the research station and most of the plant leaving the planet ruined. Chigara was originally from Diode and assumed to be the Sole Survivor, but the truth behind that tragedy is unknown to most of the galaxy.

     General

  • Above Good and Evil: How they presumably saw themselves and believed they were justify in how they pursued their goals .
  • Ambition Is Evil: Complete with a Lack of Empathy, the scientists of Diode were willing to engage in highly unethical, illegal and outright dangerous experiments to get what they wanted. Given her "father's" treatment of Alice in the Venczar Novel, its highly unlikely they planned to use the Time Machine tech they were attempting to create for good given how selfish and lacking in morals they were .
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Lloyd accuses of them of this, because having known they were creating a new race of humans to be far more intelligent than them and better in every way. Then you treat them as disposable and slaves, so Lloyd is hardly surprised to hear their own creations turned on them .
  • Evilutionary Biologist: they slip into this when creating the Prototypes .
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride, their arrogance in their belief they could control something they made superior than themselves then treating said superior creation like slaves and disposable tools only led to their own downfall .
  • For Science!: Their motivations for seeking to perfect and develop time manipulation technology leading to the creation of the Prototypes to help them achieve this are never made clear in any Sunrider game or lore. However given how they acted and treated Alice, and their Lack of Empathy they've might been seeking to create their own Time Machine seeking to become gods, prove their critics wrong . We may never know, but its safe to assume it was likely not for the benefit of manking for a whole.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Prototypes who promptly turned on them after making their intent to dispose of Alice .
  • Mad Scientist: All of Diode's inhabitants were this, but they had no sense of morality and restraint when it came to research. So much so that not even the New Empire or the most corrupt elements of any planetary government wanted nothing to do with them, and were content to leave them far away from everyone.
  • Scale of Scientific Sins: They didn't to care about any morals or restraint, they were dedicated to seeking the secrets of time travel no matter what they had to do, too bad their creations meant to help them turn on them .
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Lloyd having joined the researchers at Diode for a time, but soon clashed with them due to conflicting interests and [[their treatment of their creations of the Prototypes would cause them to turn on them]] , so when Lloyd hears about what happened he basically says " I warned them ." He is thankful he had chosen to abandon them before Diode was destroyed, and feels vindicated that he was right.
  • Shattered World: What Diode has been reduced to after the Diode Catastrophe.

     The Prototypes

The Prototypes

They are a race of women identical to one another, mass produced through cloning, who were all grown and genetically modified to be vastly more intelligent than humans while possessing bodies better in every way to support their super intellects and brains capable of processing information faster than any supercomputer. They rebelled against their creators, spurred on by their treatment of them and the first among them who served as the base for all of them. Unknown to the wider galaxy, they have hidden themselves behind the scenes with Arcadius being a leader of the Prototypes alongside another .

  • Artificial Human: The Prototypes were genetically engineered to be superior to humans and possess minds greater than any human surpassing the capabilities of advance A.I. and quantum supercomputers making them all highly intelligent.
  • Big Bad: Collectively they are this, especially since Arcadius is one of them who commands a bunch of them as expendable pawns .
  • Clone Army: If Lynn was any indication and how much Arcadius wasn't bothered by her loss they can easily produce more of themselves using cloning technology to create an army.
  • Hive Mind: They are all linked together through the mind stream created by the Alpha Prototype with the original Prototype able of commanding other prototypes or taking direct control.
  • Meaningful Name: They are called Prototypes because they were all prototypes to create the Alpha, who was to be apex of creating a superior hyper intelligent human to help them discover the secrets of Time Travel and Manipulation . The cloned Prototypes were based off of the original Prototype while all of them lead to the creation of the Alpha Prototype.
  • Sci-Fi Bob Haircut: The mass-produced Prototypes created through cloning have this haircut, even Lynn had it.
  • Telepathy: They communicate with one another using hyper brain waves, allowing them to communicate through the Prototype Mindstream or short range with one another if they are close enough.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Given their treatment of the original Prototype, and how they viewed those lesser than the Alpha as expendable Lloyd believes, correctly, this is what drove the Prototypes to rebel and destroy Diode .
  • Uterine Replicator: Its how the mass produced cloned Prototypes are created in bulk using this method.
  • Villain Override: The Alpha Prototype and high-ranking Prototypes like Arcadius/Alice are capable of this on the lesser prototypes, such as how L7nn was forcibly cut off from the Mindstream with parts of her memory erased to protect their secrets and themselves from Lelouch's Geass.
  • You Are Number 6: Lynn was known only by her number as L7nn among the Prototypes, and L7 models were made to be warriors to serve the will of the higher-ranked Prototypes in battle. All other prototypes, except the Alpha Prototype, all have numbered designations.

     Alpha Prototype

Alpha Prototype

The apex of the Prototypes and the aptly named Alpha Prototype who was the greatest creation of the scientists of Diode and their goal to create a new race of humans. However, with her creation the Alpha Prototype created a Hive Mind linking the minds of the Prototypes together. Through her elder sister and coming to believe since they were superior to even their creators and humans in general, she and the other prototypes overthrew their creators. How lurking in the shadows of the conflict between PACT and the Black Knights, the stoic and frighteningly intelligent Alpha Prototype plots to gain control over Lelouch in her goal to take control of the galaxy.

  • Artificial Human: Just like the others Prototypes, Alpha was genetically engineered to be superior to humans with a genetically augemented brain, but since she was meant to be the apex having been based off of the other prototypes and meant to be superior to them.
  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her usual attire, consisting of a black dress with puffy sleeves and white fills.
  • Hive Queen: She is the source of the Prototype Hive Mind.
  • Man Behind the Man: It is implied she is this for Arcadius and the Prototypes within the ranks of PACT.
  • Super-Intelligence: Even among the Prototypes, who by design are meant to be hyper-intelligent, Alpha is noted to be above them in this regard, but she may not understand humans as well as she might think.
  • The Spock: She acts very logical and stoic in her first appearance.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Her conversation with Zero's Anonymous Benefactor implies there is a bigger threat coming, and wants to use the current war to prepare the galaxy for it and unite it, but she wishes to also control humanity and do so through Lelouch.

Cera

A planet in the Neutral Rim of the Galaxy and among the most, if not, the most successful and prosperous among the Neutral Worlds in the Rim. It is the planet Lelouch moves to after his resurrection to live among its people as he adapts and learns more about the galaxy while attending his final year of high school properly as part of his new identity. It is also home to other main characters such as Kayto Shield and Ava Crescentia, and Lelouch ultimately considering it a second home.

    General

  • All Planets Are Earth-Like: Cera does bear a similarity to Earth as do other planets in the Sunrider universe, even Lelouch makes a note of this.
  • Fatal Flaw: Their isolationist stance, kept them from forming any useful ties to other worlds in the Rim and those who could've been allies to help them against PACT when they will invade their world.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Lelouch notes that even if Cera had expanded its military and repelled an invasion it would eventually be conquered by PACT until after their ships are destroyed and/or their resources exhausted since they can only last against a Galactic Superpower for so long. Only if they had formed an alliance with the rest of the Neutral Rim they might've stood a chance, but very few planets actually have a Space Force .
  • Head-in-the-Sand Management: Due to their isolationist stance and general distrust by their population, Cera's government is effectively doing this ignoring the obvious threat PACT is posing to them, especially after a tragic incident involving some college students. Even AFTER PACT begins invading the Neutral Rim, they wrongly believe it will fall apart failing to realize or even admit Cera will eventually face an invasion from PACT.
  • Just Ignore It: Their response to the Neutral Rim Invasion by PACT in a nutshell.
  • Slave to PR: Cera's government is this because of their general population's distrust towards government, especially if they try to increase their power in anyway.
  • Small, Secluded World: Cera, due to having been ruled by a tyrannical puppet of the New Empire in the past are distrustful of nationalistic governance and are an individualistic lot . So their people are very distrustful of their own government and will not accept them increasing their own power in anyway, not even building up the military or improving it, and are against them forming connections with other worlds making Cera into an isolationist nation.
  • Planetary Nation: Cera and much of the system is controlled by its government with Cera as its Captial and its ruled by an elected Prime Minster.
  • We Have Become Complacent: While they can't be blamed for it, Cera experiencing decades of peace and being the most successful of the Neutral Rim worlds with a functional military, even if its a small one, has left many complacent even when others are making new innovations in warfare which is rendering the tactics their military use and their ships less than useful. Now they tried to change this with the creation of the Sunrider, but the government and the military had faced some grumbling from the populace which stoned wall the project for a couple years.

Other Characters

     Cosette Cosmos

Cosette Cosmos

A feared space pirate who was born on the planet Ongess , which is a horrid wasteland due to out of control mining that had been done on that planet for decades reducing it to both a Polluted Wasteland and Wretched Hive from which many criminals and space pirates are born there. Cosette was no acceptation and became infamous among her peers after setting out on her own to form her own gang, but unlike some pirates Cosette is something of a folk hero for her attacks on wealthy merchants and planets, but at the same time her ruthless and ways she retains power and attacks on civilian vessels have challenged that image.

  • Ax-Crazy: To a T, especially if you push her Berserk Button. Cosette is vicious and ruthless, but can become dangerously unhinged if faced with someone who has bested her, and/or pushes her Berserk Button more than once.
  • Berserk Button: Do NOT make any mentions about her height, or it will end very badly for you. Captain Kidd's allies only got away with this because they were protected by him, but once Kidd was out of the picture...
  • Compensating for Something: Perhaps due to her height complex, Cosette prefers large weapons, such as during her first appearance she used a mini gun against Lelouch and Michaeal who was trying to escape from the research facility in the early chapters of the story.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Living on a hellish planet like Ongess is the last place in the Sunrider galaxy you want to grow up on. Not only did Cosette suffer Ongessite poisoning that stunted her growth leaving her with a child-like body for the rest of her life, but was forcibly prostituted by her mother , and god knows what else. Its no wonder she turned out as she did .
  • Gatling Good: Cosette tends to love these kinds of weapons, even using a mini gun in her first appearance before she struck out on her own, and her own Ryder the Havoc has one.
  • The Napoleon: Given her upbringing and what she endured Cosette takes a huge issue about her height and age, so much so that its a instant-death for anyone who comments on it.
  • Older Than They Look: Due to Ongessite Poisoning, Cosette's growth has been stunted leaving her with a child-like body since she was eleven years old, but she is likely in her twenties or older in reality .
  • Space Pirate: She has been one for a long time.
  • Pirate Girl: She was one, but becomes a Pirate Queen after Captain Kidd is captured and given to the alliance to be executed, Cosette seizes on this chance to settle some old scores with rivals who were once protected by Kidd and others eventually taking his place becoming a new Pirate Queen .
  • Roaring Rampageof Revenge: Engages in this upon the moment the Pirate King Captain Kidd is taken out leaving those who mocked, belittled her, or were rivals under his protection no longer safe, as she immediately began dishing out some brutal vengeance after mere seconds of hearing the news.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Cosette didn't join Captain Kidd's pirate fleet concerned they would all turn on one another once the Black Knights were out of the picture. In a sense she was right that it was a bad idea to tag along, BUT she didn't know the Black Knights would instead wipe them out and capture Kidd ending his reign as Pirate King, which opened the door for Cosette to take over to become a Pirate Queen .

     Miguel Kidd

Miguel Kidd

Formerly of the Solar Alliance military as a Captain and a Privateer, Kidd would betray his superiors and by taking the ship he commanded to become a pirate. He also staged munities upon the other two Alliance Cruisers who were both to assist him and keep an eye on him, killing the captains of the two cruisers and anyone else who didn't join, before renaming the ship as the Queen Anne's Revenge to use as his personal flag ship, joined by two stollen Alliance battleships allowing him to become the most powerful and dangerous space pirate in the Neutral Rim.

Until Zero and the Black Knights came along .

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Despite all of his efforts and the pirates he gathered to form the largest pirate fleet at the time in the galaxy to hunt down the Black Knights, Lelouch outsmarted him and lured him into a well-prepared trap before using his better ships and Ryders to take out Captain Kidd's fleet before capturing him and his ship to be handled over to the Alliance .
  • Faux Affably Evil: Kidd is ruthless and treacherous if you are not careful, but even so he does maintain a polite and charismatic air about him, but he is capable of evil acts such as wiping out a colony with no means to defend themselves without a second thought just to send a message. This holds until he suffers a Villainous Breakdown .
  • Evil Feels Good: Ultimately why he became a pirate, after becoming a Privateer for the Alliance.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: How Kidd carried himself to stand apart from other space pirates, but Icari thought his tastes were very tacky.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: To match the wealth and power he had as a Pirate King.
  • Starter Villain: Kidd would serve as this to the Black Knights, being perhaps the biggest threat they've faced at the time as they were growing as an organization.
  • Space Pirate: The most powerful space pirate and apparent Pirate King, until the Black Knights defeated him .
  • Privateer: Formerly before he became a Pirate after betraying the Solar Alliance where he was once a Captain in their military.
  • Psycho for Hire: He is hired by Arcadius to not only hunt down the Black Knights and eliminate them, but he was also charged with destabilizing the Neutral Rim in anyway he can from using blackmail, assassin, and more.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: He engaged in this, but even more so after assembling his Pirate Fleet and they began ransacking small colonies along the Neutral Rim, killing everyone or worse, just to get the Black Knight's attention.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: His final fate to be tried and executed for his crimes by the Solar Alliance much to Grey's pleasure since Kidd had murdered a dear friend when he betrayed the Alliance, wishing for a chance to enact justice upon him .
  • Villainous Breakdown: Suffers one when the Black Knights bait him into a devious trap and begin wiping out his forces ultimately capturing him .
