The Deadfest Club

    Deion

Deion "D-day" Elliot

Played By: RJ Cyler, Jaden Robinson (as a kid)

A successful football star traumatized by the murder of his twin brother who finds himself in Ghostface's crosshairs.

  • Arch-Enemy: Ghostface, as the killer likes messing with him the most.
  • The Atoner: Ashamed of panicking and abandoning his brother, he decided to continue to pretending to be the real Dieon after he was mistaken for him as a way to honor him.
  • Broken Ace: He's a star football player on the fast-track to earning a college scholarship, but is severely traumatized by the death/appearance of his brother.
  • Dark Horse Sibling: Upon taking Deion's identity after he disappeared, Marcus went from being considered the Black Sheep of his family to a successful football star on his way to college, except he also has to deal with his guilt over his brother's apparent death and Ghostface going after him.
  • Dirty Coward: He views himself as one for running away to get the police instead of defending his brother when he was attacked by Hook Man.
  • It's Personal: The killer invokes the memory of Deion's twin brother by wearing the costume he died in and targets him the most.
  • I Work Alone: Tries to avoid getting anyone wrapped up in his business with Ghostface, but fails since they're being targeted as well and are afraid for their lives too, leading to them to look up to Dieon for guidance.
  • Lovable Jock: Is on the football team and gets along with most people, except for Avery, Jay, and of course Ghostface.
  • My Greatest Failure: Running away to get the police instead of helping his brother when he was attacked by Hook Man.
  • Not Quite Dead: Beth shoots him in the gut and leaves him for dead as she goes after Liv. This screws her over in the end, since Deion recovers enough to go after Beth and save Liv, who knocks Beth through a skylight.
  • The Reveal: He's not really Deion, but Marcus; Deion and Marcus switched costumes so that a bully wouldn't bother Marcus anymore. After Deion was attacked, Marcus (in Deion's football costume) went to his mom and he was mistaken for Deion. He thought that eventually everyone would find out the truth, but they didn't, so he keep the ruse going because when he was Marcus, he got in trouble a lot and everyone expected the worse of him, but as Deion, he was able to make a better life for himself.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: He's on his way to college and a quarterback for his football team, while his half-brother, Jay, has become a gangbanger who's seemingly dropped out of school.
  • Angsty Surviving Twin: He misses his twin brother greatly and even more once he learns that he's really dead.
  • The Unfavorite: When he was Marcus.
  • You Are in Command Now: After Avery's death, Deion had to fill in his position as quarterback. It took some time getting used to it, but by the last episode he's got the hang of it.
  • Youngest Child Wins: He ends up surviving the events of the season and gets to move to San Diego for college with his girlfriend, while his older half-brother became Ghostface, got his identity outed as a murderer, then ended up betrayed then killed by his partner.

    Liv

Olivia 'Liv' Reynolds

Played By: Jessica Sula

A new student who seems to have the ideal life that finds herself roped into the whole Ghostface situation.

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her mom was cheating on her dad and after she found out, Liv got so mad that she told her dad, leading to her parents' divorce. Afterwards, she started to act out in destructive ways forcing her and her father to move.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Fuck, the girl has no common sense! Almost everything she does either gets someone in trouble or screws herself over:
    • In the third episode, she slashed a tire on Kym's car to prevent her, Manny, Beth from getting endangered by following her and Deion to where Marcus disappeared. However, the three are now stuck in a bad part of town, where Kym ended up pissing off some racists who ran her off the road. Then, when Manny went to go save her, Ghostface lured him to a trap then killed him.
    • After learning that Deion was going to go after Ghostface armed with an illegally obtained pistol from Jay, she called her dad to in order to stop him. To reiterate, she thought siccing her dad, a police officer, on her boyfriend for having an illegal weapon, which in the state of Georgia can lead to a five year prison sentence, was better than him going after a slasher movie villain. And despite Liv's dad being understanding with Deion and untrusting towards Liv, all of this drama leads to Ghostface attacking Officer Reynolds, hospitalizing him, then framing Deion for the attack to get him arrested.
    • In the final episode, she hits Beth with a broken flagpole after she says a detail of Amir's death she shouldn't have known and traps her in a room. However, given the circumstances such as Beth having alibi for knowing how Amir was killed and Deion finding out from Jay that there's a second female Ghostface, she ends up looking very guilty. Then, on top of everything, its revealed that she just trapped herself and Deion with the killer after Beth whips out a gun...
  • Final Girl: Invoked and played with: Ghostface, revealed to be Beth, has her cast as the final girl in the psycho's vision of a real life horror movie. However, Liv doesn't fill many of the traits associated of a final girl: she's not a virgin (but since this show is a Scream title, this trait isn't necessary), she's definitely not resourceful, and she's not the protagonist. However, she does manage to face off against Ghostface and is able to survive at the end of everything.
  • The Millstone: Every single idea she comes up and executes makes several people's lives very difficult, in the lethal sense. However, there is her mental instability to take into account, so it's not completely her fault that her ideas go to shit so quick.
  • Red Herring: The strongest one in this season. Given how much she screws up, no wonder everyone thought she was Ghostface.
  • Self-Harm: She's seen burning herself with a lighter at the end of the third episode. This is the same episode where Ghostface murdered somebody using a lighter to ignite a vapor trail from the car the victim was trapped in.
  • Took a Level in Badass: When finally forced to confront Ghostface, she manages to survive and fight off the killer long enough for a wounded Deion to come over and club Ghostface in the face with a football helmet.

    Beth

Beth

Played By: Giorgia Whigham

A goth student who is very fond of horror movies.

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Had an on-and-off again relationship with Shane, a drug dealer and thief, hooked up with with Avery Collins, and had a tryst with Jay, a gangbanger with a chip on his shoulder.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's a horror film-loving goth girl and the only one who knows how to avoid becoming one of Ghostface's victims.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Nearly every word that comes out of her mouth is pure sarcasm.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: She's a chainsmoker who associates with shady individuals, yet she's with the good guys.
  • Hidden Depths: She seen drawing a pretty decent picture in the fifth episode.
  • Meta Girl: Is what Randy and Noah were in the previous installments: a living survival guide on horror movies.
  • Not So Stoic: Is in shock after Avery gets skewered in front of her, then breaks down after Amir is found dead.
  • The Stoic: She has emotion, she just doesn't show it much.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to both Kym and Liv's Girly Girl.

    Jay

Jamal 'Jay' Elliot

Played By: Tyga

Deion's older half-brother, who associates with tough and potentially dangerous individuals.

  • Cain and Abel: His twin half-brothers were good kids, with one growing up to become a successful football star, while he ended up becoming a gangbanger.
  • Gangbangers: He's not involved with a good crowd.
  • Hates Their Parent: He loathes his dad for abandoning his mom for Deion and Marcus' mom, Sherry.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Wears a nice red jacket with a black shirt in the fifth episode during a party, which foreshadows his true alignment.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: He has an argument about being the killer with Dieon, angrily leaving when he gets fed up with the accusations. Then he not-so-subtly threatens Liv and her dad as he drives off to kill the latter.
  • Legacy Character: Deion finds out that after Shane was murdered, Jay took over his illegal party operations as the new Mr. Fade.
  • Red Herring: Double Subverted; he seemly gives away his identity as Ghostface in the fifth episode, only to get stabbed and kidnapped by the killer, who makes Deion rescue him in the last episode— where he reveals that he really was Ghostface, but his partner betrayed him and is going after the remaining members of the Deadfest Club.
  • Tattooed Crook: His upper body is covered in tattoos as shown when he meets Beth.
  • Troll: He makes Deion think that he wanted him to get drugs for a party, when in reality the package was really breading for some catfish in his party.

    Shane

Shane

Played By: Tyler Posey

A high-school dropout turned drug dealer and criminal who is in a relationship with Beth.

  • Boisterous Weakling: A smug thug with a gun...who gets taken out by a frickin' ladder, of all things.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Turns out one of the main reasons he does what he does is to provide for his sick grandma.
  • Eye Scream: Ghostface pins him down with a ladder and injects a syringe full of drugs into his eyeball in order to induce a forced overdose.
  • Feet of Clay: He's supposed to be a dangerous criminal, but gets chloroformed by some high-schoolers, and can't even shoot at a psycho in a Halloween costume.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As much as an arrogant delinquent he is he has a soft spot for his grandmother whom he takes care of via his criminal activities.
  • Lovable Rogue: Pretty affable for a criminal.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Is a drug dealer, a thief, and an illegal party promoter who turns out to be a more decent person than Ghostface.
  • Paper Tiger: Not as threatening as he makes out to be, which leads to lethal consequences.
  • Red Herring: Gets accused of being Ghostface due to the usage of the killer's costume at one of his parties, where Avery gets killed. It turns out he got the costumes from one of his contacts who steal shit for him and his innocence is further strengthened when Ghostface traps everyone, including him, in the school.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: Subverted, but not because of anything involving the gun, but because he was too scared to shoot Ghostface.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When he saw that Avery got killed, he left to avoid facing the cops.
  • The So-Called Coward: The Deadfest Club view him as a coward, especially Beth, after he hesitates to shoot Ghostface, allowing the killer to escape. However, it's heavily implied that he didn't kill Ghostface because he doesn't want to risk a murder charge because he has to take care of his sick grandma.
  • We Barely Knew Ye: Dies in the second episode.

    Amir

Amir Ayoub

Played By: CJ Wallace

A good natured student whose desire to pursue a career as a musician is stopped by his strict parents, who want him to work in the family business.

  • Batman Gambit: When Ghostface said "snitches get stiches" after texting everyone to choose one of group to be killed, the killer really meant that he would kill the person who chose someone to die. Amir, the Lovable Coward, made the mistake of not reading the fine print well enough.
  • Butt-Monkey: Was bullied by Avery Collins, got tackled by Deion, who thought he was Ghostface, nearly lost all of his parents' money as part of a trap, got mocked for his Deion costume, which got him attacked by Hook Man, and finally, he ends up damning himself by choosing Deion to die, thinking that Ghostface was going to go after those who didn't choose. And the kicker? Just before he dies, he finds out that his crush was the one who killed him.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Get the most visceral demise of the franchise, where a bonesaw slices him all the way through very slowly until his insides are all outside, while his girlfriend watches no less.
  • Dirty Coward: He chooses Deion to die as part of Ghostface's game. In his defense, he only did it to also protect Beth and because Deion had previously told everyone to choose him so that nobody else in the group would die.
  • Lovable Coward: Despite his cowardice, everyone in the group loved him, including Deion, who was angered by his death.
  • Gutted Like a Fish: He seemingly escapes Ghostface after being chased by him in Beth's funeral home. Only to get stabbed in the back by the killer with a bonesaw through a slot in the elevator; Ghostface then holds the saw in Amir as the elevator goes up, cutting open him from back to front.
  • Must Not Die a Virgin: He finally manages to get a girl who likes him in spite of the killings. Too bad she is the killer.
  • Nice Guy: Easily the most friendly person among the group as he doesn't have as much baggage.
  • Sex Signals Death: Dies shortly after boffing Beth.

    Kym

Kym

Played By: Keke Palmer

A social activist and rebellious student.

  • Dirty Coward: Subverted; it looked like she hightailed it when Ghostface went after Deion and Liv in the last episode, however, she had an "Eureka!" Moment, realizing that Beth was Ghostface and that she had manipulated Kym into running away, so went back into the school after hearing the fire alarm going off, found Beth's gun, and tracked down Dieon and Liv to make sure Beth was completely dead, ultimately ending the bitch when she tried to pull one more scare.

    Manny

Manny

Played By: Giullian Yao Gioiello

Kym's openly gay best friend who is repeatedly dragged into Kym's political activist schemes.

Supporting Characters

    Marcus

Marcus Elliot

Played By: Jaden Robinson, RJ Cyler (grown up, in a nightmare Dieon has)

Deion's twin brother who was attacked by Hook Man on Halloween eight years ago, never to be seen again.

  • Ax-Crazy: After hearing a theory that he's Ghostface, Dieon has a dream where Marcus, in Ghostface garb, kills him and Liv, complete with him ripping the skin off Dieon's chest after stabbing him. Thankfully, he's not Ghostface.

    Hook Man

Luther Thompson/Hook Man

Played By: Tony Todd

A deranged Vietnam veteran with a hook for a hand who lives inside a junkyard and murdered Marcus Elliot.

    Sherry

Sherry Elliot

Deion's mother.

    Officer Reynolds

Officer Edward Reynolds

Played By: Gideon Emery

Liv's strict and controlling father, who's also a police officer.

A guy who used to bully Dieon and Marcus when he was younger.

    Avery

Avery Collins

Played By: Patrick Johnson

The quarterback on Dieon's football team, who has it out for him and was dating Liv until she saw his true nature.

    Hawkins

Hawkins

Played By: Drew Starkey

One of Deion's friends on the school football team who trades innocent barbs with Dieon.

Ghostface (Spoilers)

    Ghostface (Season 3)

Ghostface (Identity)

Voiced By: Roger L. Jackson

Played By: William Scharpf (all the stuntwork), Tyga, and Giorgia Whigham

The main antagonist of this season, nicknamed after his distinctive ghost mask; this version of the character sets his sights on the Deadfest Club, a group of outcasts loosely led by Dieon, who has a personal connection with him, as the killer is wearing the same costume his brother wore when he disappeared eight years ago. Ghostface intends to expose the group's members as hypocrites, all while playing sick mind games with them as he kills them off.

  • Arch-Enemy: Is this to Dieon, however, this is only for Jay; Beth designates Liv as the "final girl" and the last victim she plans to kill.
  • Big Bad: Ghostface returns back to his position of the main baddie in this season after being replaced by the Lakewood Slasher in the two previous seasons.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Jay reveals that he wasn't the only killer before he dies.
  • The Bus Came Back: After being last seen in Scream 4, being replaced by an Expy killer in the seasons aired on MTV, and having overall zero Scream-related appearances for 7-8 years, the Ghostface identity returns as the main antagonist's disguise.
  • Cheap Costume: The costume has been around for decades in-universe and is so easily obtainable, Shane was able to hand them out as party favors in a silent disco he setup as Mr. Fade. This makes it possible that anybody could be the killer stalking the Deadfest Club.
  • Dark Is Evil: Wears a scary black robe robe and butchers people, so yeah. On another note, the robe used for this season is visibly darker than the one used for the movies, since it doesn't use the same black fabric with metallic threads from the Wes Craven films.
  • In-Series Nickname: The name "Ghostface" comes from Dieon's description of the killer's mask and it seems that "Ghostface" is only used by the Deadfest Club since Hawkins had no idea who Kym was talking about when she mistook him for the killer.
  • In the Hood: A big floppy hood is part of the costume's robe.
  • Jerkass: Is a verbally abusive serial killer who enjoys tormenting the Deadfast Club.
  • Misanthrope Supreme: Views everyone as a hypocrite, save for himself.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Ghostface identity is played by two people: the emotionally driven and hot-blooded Jay and the calmer, calculating sociopath Beth.
  • Theme Serial Killer: This version of Ghostface is obsessed with exposing and killing people who he views as hypocrites, though this is Beth's theme, not Jay's, who's on a simple Roaring Rampage of Revenge. Beth also is doing all this For the Evulz, so her excuse is very debatable.
  • Voice Changeling: While not stated out right, Ghostface seems to use a voice changer like his movie counterparts that's widely available, since a prankster on the night Marcus disappeared used one to prank call Becky.

Jamal "Jay" Elliot

Wanting revenge on Deion and a few others who he blamed for the death of Marcus, the real Deion, Jay teamed up with a manipulative psychopath to start a killing spree in order to avenge his half-brother.

  • Scary Black Man: He's basically Kynette from Cliffhanger as Ghostface, they are even played by actors with music industry backgrounds and single word screen names (Kynette being played by Leon, also known as Leon Robinson, while Jay is played by Tyga).

Beth

A manipulative and bloodthirsty self-diagnosed sociopath, Beth convinced Jay to avenge his half-brother intending to use his rampage to disguise her own massacre in her own real-life horror movie, with her in the starring role.

  • Hero Killer: Beth is the murderer of Shane, Manny, Amir, and Officer Westbrook.
  • Meta Twist: Way back in the first Scream Randy Meeks admitted in a horror movie his obsessive knowledge of horror movie tropes would make him the prime suspect. This time the killer really is someone who's movie-freaked mind lost the reality button.
