Royal Family

    In general

    Princess Ava
A Siamese cat who is the monarch of the Pocket Kingdom.
  • Inter Species Romance: Just like in canon, she falls in love with Wallace, a dog, though it doesn’t last. She eventually gets into a relationship with Royal Guard William, another dog.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Especially has breakdowns in a few chapters.
    • In Chapter 7 of Volume 2, Ava takes her emotions out on Balloon. This chapter originally had Ava swearing, but it was later removed.
    • In Chapter 28 of Volume 2, she snaps at William with a "The Reason You Suck" Speech regarding what she believes he had done with her sister.
  • Parental Abandonment: Both her parents died long before the events of the show and this fanfic.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Throughout the series, Ava does a whole lot of things outside her castle.
  • Ruler Protagonist: She is one of the main characters of the series.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Eva's Tomboy.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Her parents’ sudden deaths, Eva betraying her, the events which happened in the Big City, the Pet Buster returning… this cat can’t catch a break.

    Eva
A Siamese cat who is the twin sister of Princess Ava.
  • Ambiguously Gay: It is heavily implied that her relationship with Alice may be more than just a friendship.
  • Broken Bird: Because of the early deaths of her parents, her grandmother Jocelyne's insistence to following outdated traditions, and Talia's obvious deviousness, she becomes this.
  • Flower Motif: The rose, to represent the pain she has been through.
  • Good All Along: Although in the canon show she’s seen as the main villain who has such huge jealousy towards her sister and beams her to the Big City so that she could get the Friendship Heart for herself, this fanfic depicts her as having more sympathy, and the reason for her teleporting Ava to the Big City being to keep her safe from the dangerous Magic Storm.
  • Inter Species Romance: If her and Alice’s relationship is considered to be romantic, then it constitutes as this.
  • Parental Abandonment: Both her parents died long before the events of the show and this fanfic.
  • Precision F-Strike: She repeats the swear Alice says after she had argued with Kayl near the end of Volume 2.
  • Rebellious Princess: She has even said to Alice that she wants nothing to do with royal titles.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: The only one who Eva was ever into was Alice.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Ava's Girly Girl.

    King Edward
The father of Princess Ava and Eva and former king consort of the Pocket Kingdom.
  • Affair Letters: In Chapter 3 of Volume 2, his daughter Ava finds several letters in his old room in the Ice Lake Castle documenting a conversation between him and Winnie regarding their daughter Balloon.
  • Arranged Marriage: With Queen Emma.
  • Disappeared Dad: He has little to no memory of his father as his mother Talia poisoned him when he was a kitten.
    • He eventually becomes one himself because of his death.
  • The Good King: He’s a very kind king.
  • Papa Wolf: He would do anything to protect his daughters, even Balloon, if it means taking her away from her mother.
  • Posthumous Character: He died long before the events of the show and the fanfic, and only makes appearances in flashback scenes. However, he has a huge importance to the story.
  • Signature Instrument: The piano. He would often play pieces to serenade his then-fiancée Emma and for the rest of the Royal Family and castle staff. His mother Talia disapproves of it, however.

    Queen Emma
The mother of Princess Ava and Eva and previous monarch of the Pocket Kingdom.
  • Arranged Marriage: With King Edward.
  • Disappeared Dad: She grew up without ever knowing her father King James, as he died while her mother Queen Jocelyne was still pregnant with her.
  • The High Queen: She was a loving and caring queen, breaking the tradition that all members of the Royal Family have to be so cold.
  • Missing Mom: Becomes one to Ava and Eva after she was poisoned to death.
  • Parents Are Wrong: In this case, Emma represents Change while her mother Jocelyne represents Tradition. Her mother insists with the tradition of arranged marriages by forcing Emma to marry Talia’s son Edward even if neither share romantic interest with each other. But as Emma becomes queen in her mother’s place, she abolishes the tradition in favor of having the freedom for a royal to marry whoever they want.
  • Posthumous Character: She died long before the events of both the canon show and the fanfic, only appearing in flashbacks, but nonetheless is important to the story.
  • Rebellious Princess: Downplayed; in her youth, while she doesn't show that she doesn't want to be a princess, she does want certain traditions in her family to be abolished and for her family to not expect her to be as stoic as they are.

    Queen Jocelyne
Princess Ava and Eva’s maternal grandmother, Queen Emma’s mother, and a previous monarch of the Pocket Kingdom.
  • Abusive Parents: While not as abusive as Talia is to Edward, Jocelyne’s parenting isn’t exactly great either.
    • She slaps Emma in the face after an argument with her about marrying Edward.
  • Arranged Marriage: Just like those before her, Jocelyne was in an arranged marriage with King James.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Light Feminine to Talia's Dark Feminine.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She outlived her daughter Emma.
  • Parents Are Wrong: She is Tradition, while her daughter Emma is Change. Jocelyne continues to keep the importance of the tradition of arranged marriages in the Royal Family by having her daughter marry Edward, the son of the Duchess Talia, even if both have no romantic interest in each other. Eventually her daughter gets rid of said tradition once Jocelyne abdicates.
  • Posthumous Character: Died long before the events of this series, but nevertheless holds importance in the story.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Although she is mostly known for her icy, stoic demeanor, she also has a warmer side, as shown when she tells Ava about Talia’s true nature and when she comforts her daughter Emma about Edward.

    Duchess Talia (UNMARKED SPOILERS
The former Duchess of the Ice Lake who was Edward’s mother and Princess Ava and Eva’s paternal grandmother.
  • Abusive Parents: Oh boy, she does NOT treat Edward well at all. It is revealed that she only had a child so she could gain power in the Pocket Kingdom, and it’s heavily implied that she was the one who murdered Edward.
    • Miss Penny in Chapter 32 of Volume 2 has even recalled seeing Talia grab Edward by the neck and force him downstairs because he was late for a meeting.
  • Apocalyptic Log: In Chapter 11 of Volume 2, a doll in the Ice Lake Castle has a recording of her confession that she killed Edward.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Perhaps the vilest noble this series has seen.
  • Ax-Crazy: Without a doubt.
  • Big Bad: Besides the Pet Buster, she also serves as a huge antagonist of this fanfic series.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Acts nice towards her granddaughters Ava and Eva and everyone else (except Edward, of course), but in reality is an abhorrent, nasty feline who cares about nobody but herself.
    • Miss Penny recalls a memory of seeing Talia force Edward down the stairs by grabbing him by the neck, and once she greeted her, she smiled as if nothing happened.
    • Also when pretending to be Violet. While "Violet" did torment Ava and her friends as part of the trial, she is said to not be evil by any means, unlike Talia.
  • Body Horror: Her One-Winged Angel form. It has a case of multiple heads and Extra Eyes, and a mysterious black fluid oozing from her mouths.
  • Cats Are Mean: Fits this trope to a T.
  • Dark Is Evil: She has dark gray markings and fits the bill.
    • Even more so as a ghost, where her form is almost pitch-black.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Especially her ghost form.
    • When she's in her One-Winged Angel form in Obscured Dolls. She has a very over-the-top appearance and manner of speech.
  • Evil Laugh: Her ghost sometimes laughs maniacally.
  • Evil Matriarch: She’s the evil mother of Edward.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Mother: She doesn’t like Edward’s hobby of playing the piano, and has ripped one of his sheet music into shreds one time.
  • Freudian Excuse: Because she herself was abused by her own parents as a child, she was doomed to repeat the cycle. It's possible that she's even worse.
  • Goth: Often sported dark colors and lived in a dark, eerie castle.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She's envious of the power that the monarch of the Pocket Kingdom has, therefore she let her son marry the then-heir so she could find a way to gain it.
  • It's All About Me: Takes her selfishness to the max.
  • Jerkass: Whenever she's not pretending to be nice.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Dark Feminine to Jocelyne's Light Feminine.
  • Manipulative Bitch: This just describes her entire personality.
    • She had Edward so she could get him married to the heir to the throne and therefore try to gain more power.
    • Ava and William didn't even see it coming when she takes off the guise of "Violet".
  • Offing the Offspring: It’s implied that she was the one who helped cause the avalanche that killed her son Edward, and she even went on to murder her daughter-in-law Emma by poisoning her.
  • Ominous Obsidian Ooze: Her ghost form frequently has a black substance dripping from her mouth.
  • One-Winged Angel: In Obscured Dolls, Talia’s ghost transforms into a massive, hideous Eldritch Abomination with three heads like Cerberus, and six eyes on each head.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: She outlived her son Edward.
  • Pet the Dog: According to Word of God, Talia wasn't always cruel to her son Edward, and on winter nights she would sit in the parlor with him and listen to him read books to her, thinking that his voice reminded her of her grandfather.
  • Smug Snake: She's the epitome of this trope.
  • Voice of the Legion: When she is a ghost, especially that her dialogue is in bold. Her voice is even said to echo throughout the halls and make anyone who hears it tremble with fear.
  • Walking Spoiler: It’s quite hard to talk about her without revealing a lot.

    Duchess Tia
Talia's sister and a Duchess of a currently unknown region.

    Violet
The ghost of a young duchess who is the guardian in the caves underneath the Castle.
  • Berserk Button: Never, by any means, call her a mere "fairytale".
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: She puts on an innocent facade, emphasizing that she was young when she died, but is actually a disguised Talia.
  • Light Is Not Good: While she isn't supposed to be "evil" per se, she does mess with the protagonists and is a ghost with a glowing form. This is eventually played straight when it is found out that Talia was impersonating her the whole time.
  • Nightmare Face: Gets red eyes and sharper teeth once Danny presses her Berserk Button.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes glow red when Danny calls her a "fairytale cat".
