    Arthur Harrow

Dr. Arthur Harrow

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arthur_harrow_earth_616_in_moon_knight_vol_2_2.jpg

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 2) #2

A brilliant surgeon and scientist, Dr. Harrow was once on the verge of winning a Nobel Prize for medicine for his work in pain theory. But there was a dark side to his work; he had advanced his research by continuing outlawed inhumane experimentation from World War II and had acquired additional funding by doing the dirty work for a secret think tank known as OMINUM. When Harrow attempts to murder a rival who has gotten wind of his extracurricular activities, he draws the attention of Moon Knight, who had been directed by Khonshu to shut down OMINUM.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Of Josef Mengele, of all people. Harrow has been illegally continuing his outlawed research, using documents that were supposed to have been destroyed.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a full beard and is one evil bastard.
  • Evil Cripple: The left side of his face has been paralyzed by trigeminal neuralgia, putting the left side of his mouth in a permanent snarl and causing him constant, agonizing pain.
  • Evil Redhead: Has red hair.
  • Freudian Excuse: His obsession with "pain theory" stems from being afflicted with trigeminal neuralgia, a real-life condition which has disfigured his face, and which leaves him in near-constant, agonizing pain. While the disorder is horrible, Harrow suffering from it was not really played for any kind of sympathy (at least not beyond him wanting to cure himself) and completely overshadowed by him being a very obvious Sadist.
  • Karma Houdini: Has thus far only appeared in one story, which ended with him getting clean away.
  • Mind Control: Turns his subjects into zombie-like thralls and has them fight Moon Knight.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: His research is performed via cruel experiments on unwilling subjects.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: He was on the verge of winning the Nobel Prize until the true source of his research was discovered.

    Anubis the Jackal

Anubis the Jackal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anubis_the_jackal.jpg

Alter Ego: Ahmad Azis

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 2) #1

Ahmad Azis was said to be the reincarnation of Araamses, Priest of the Anubis, who tried to seize the Pharaoh's throne after Seti's death, but was captured and buried alive in Set's tomb. He claimed to have been revived alongside Moon Knight when Khonshu's light flooded the tomb. Azis attempted to regain all the treasures he had possessed in his past life and tried to obtain the statue of Khonshu, possessed by Marc Spector.

  • Alliterative Name: Ahmad Azis.
  • Energy Weapon: Wore a gold helmet shaped like a jackal's head that fired lasers from the eyes.
  • Reincarnation: Belived he was the reincarnation of Araamses, Priest of the Anubis, who tried to seize the Pharaoh's throne after Seti's death.
  • Weaponized Headgear: Wore a gold helmet shaped like a jackal's head that fired lasers from the eyes.

    Black Spectre

Black Spectre I

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2650694_moon_knight__18___page_25_4.jpg

Alter Ego: Carson Knowles

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #25

Moon Knight: Let me tell you a thing about Black Spectre. He really just wanted to be loved. He wanted his dad and his wife to love him. Wanted his crew to love him. Wanted the whole city to love him.

Carson Knowles, a Vietnam War veteran whose father was a politician, upon returning to New York discovered that his wife left him and his son was killed. He couldn't get a job and decided to get revenge on the city since they turned his back on him when he needed it most. Inspired by Moon Knight, Knowles became the Black Spectre, a master criminal.

  • Back from the Dead: Is seemingly resurrected during Jed MacKay's run, becoming the Arc Villain for the "Death of Moon Knight" storyline.
  • Badass Normal: A rather well-trained war veteran, who has been able to overpower Marc in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Black Knight: His armor is definitely meant to evoke this.
  • Color Character: Black Spectre
  • Evil Counterpart: Ryan Trent describes him as trying to be the opposite of Moon Knight. The 2021 series ups this, with the resurrected Black Spectre parodying Mr. Knight's offer of help in its first issue. Rather than helping out the neighborhood and saving lives, Black Spectre basically offers assassinations in return for favors he expects to be repaid.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: All he ever wanted was for his family, the city, and even his own mooks to love him.
    • In volume 3, Knowles infects NYC with a Stark-derived mind control technology that makes everyone love him.
  • Mind Rape: His last big plan, wanting to use nanotech devices to take control of a massive rally of people.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Between people on the street viewing him as a butcher, his wife, and son leaving him, the death of his son, and then having his car stolen... the thing that really pushes Carson over the edge is someone trying to mug him, which sends him into a bloody rage.
    • Happens again after he is released from prison. He tried to move on with his life, but constant harassment and a corrupt parole officer drove him into villainy again.
  • Worthy Opponent: Heavily implied when Moon Knight describes Knowles' motivation in near-perfect detail while aloofly telling the second Black Spectre that he doesn't know who he is.

Black Spectre II

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryan_trent_earth_616_003_3.jpg

Alter Ego: Ryan Trent

First Appearance: Moon Knight (vol.4) #1

"This isn't going to be a fight. I'm just going to kill you. I'm better than you. I deserve to be you. And now I'm going to show you why I deserve to be loved more than you."

Since he was a kid, Ryan Trent was constantly undermined, having his decisions throughout his life continuously questioned. Even after he joined the NYPD, he didn't feel he was good enough. When Moon Knight returned to New York City as a consultant for Detective Flint, Flint's preference over the vigilante caused Trent to finally break, and slowly descend into madness as he became obsessed with Moon Knight. Seeing himself as "better" than Moon Knight, he began studying Moon Knight by contacting his friends and allies, all of whom had distanced themselves from him. To make himself more of a loner like Moon knight, Trent murdered his wife and, feeling like he was now properly prepared, set out to confront his foe.

  • Beard of Evil: Grows one as he trained to become the new Black Spectre.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Trent turns out to have been one of the cops that appeared in the first issue of Warren Ellis's run.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Actually managed to have Moon Knight at his mercy, only for his attack plan to literally blow up in his face.
  • Establishing Character Moment: An eight-panel page showcases Trent being criticized for his decisions and behavior all his life, culminating in him telling himself that he'll never be good enough.
  • Evil Counterpart: Specifically, to the Mr. Knight persona, whose outfit Trent directly emulates.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: Averted. Starting off as a faceless cop among the many under Detective Flint's command, Trent built himself up to be a superior replacement for Moon Knight. Along with some surprisingly successful detective skills, Trent ended up being more than a match for Moon Knight when he went to attack him, managing to destroy his limo, his drone, disarm him, and hold him at gunpoint. His carelessness ended up being his undoing and he wound up injured and at Moon Knight's mercy, completely railroading any future success he might've had as the new Black Spectre.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: He wants to be a "better" Moon Knight by being more loved than him. Unfortunately, as Moon Knight himself points out, he actually works better because nobody loves him, so he's probably missing the point.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Trent had spent nearly his whole life practically on auto-pilot. Nearly everyone in his life had criticized him for his questionable decisions, such as being a cop instead of joining the military. Inspired by Moon Knight, he prepares a plan to murder and replace him, hoping to be promoted to Detective and gain Flint's respect.
  • I Work Alone: Knowing that Moon Knight, too, works alone, Trent decides to rid himself of any relationship. This includes killing his own wife.
  • Unknown Rival: Trent's lack of relevance would've actually benefited him as Moon Knight had no idea who he was nor who he was supposed to be dressed as.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: He completely vanishes from the face of the Earth after his attempt on Moon Knight's life and is never mentioned again...at least until Jed MacKay's run where Trent returns as a minion of the apparently resurrected Carson Knowles.

    Bluebeard

Bluebeard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bluebeard_7.jpg

Alter Ego: Arnold Perril

First Appearance: Moon Knight (vol.2) #4

Arnold Perril was a contributor for the New York Metro newspaper until he wrote several articles on Neuron Rays which made him a laughingstock of the scientific community and cost him his job. Blaming women for his misfortunes, he adopted the persona of Bluebeard to gain revenge.

    Bushman

Bushman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1517691_bushman_01.jpg

Alter Ego: Raoul Bushman

Notable Aliases: The General

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #1

"I have many names, Marc Spector, but you can call me the Bushman."

The Marvel Universe has a lot of competition for the position of 'worst human ever', but Marc Spector's personal nominee for the title is Raoul Bushman. Moon Knight's de facto arch-nemesis, the two have bad blood going back a long way.

Nothing is known of Bushman's early life, but by the time Marc had met him he was already the leader of the most feared group of mercenaries in the whole of Sudan. Bushman committed every kind of atrocity; murder, political assassination, grave robbing, rape, even slavery, all for the sake of the wealth and power it brought him. As a reflection of his black heart, he tattooed his face in the likeness of a skull and replaced his teeth with fangs to strike fear into the hearts of enemies and allies alike. When Marc tried to leave his war party in protest over their attack on an archeological dig by the Alraune's, Bushman mortally wounded him and left him to die in the desert.

After becoming Moon Knight, Marc would end up clashing with Bushman, again and again, their repeated skirmishes turning into an out-an-out blood feud which only one of them could survive. Eventually, that final battle did come, which ended with Moon Knight killing Bushman by carving off his face, but at the cost of his own legs.

  • Arch-Enemy: Of Moon Knight, as he was the one who killed Marc and left him for dead in Egypt and served as his nemesis for some time.
  • Ax-Crazy: He's a monstrous bloodthirsty excuse for a human being and his actions disgusted Marc and the other mercs during his mercenary years.
  • Back from the Dead: After Moon Knight killed him, the Hood brought him back.
  • Badass Normal: He's a regular human, but he's also a monstrous engine of bloodlust, evil, and ultra-violence that lets him keep up with Moon Knight over the years.
  • Fat Bastard: The years have not been kind to him since he took up binge-eating to cope with his last loss to Marc.
  • The Heavy: In the early issues and some modern ones he is usually Moon Knight's most recurring adversary.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: A badass merc, occasional warlord, and Moon Knight's worst nightmare... up until his post-resurrection mental breakdown. Now he's an insecure, slum-dwelling, and eating disorder-afflicted crack dealer who at one point laments that, with the Sun King around, he no longer even has the honor of being Marc's Number #1 Foe to cling to anymore.
  • Scary Black Man: The serrated steel teeth and clawed fingernails should be a giveaway.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: His surname really is Bushman.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: Under the Truth's influence, Bushman angrily admits that Marc is handsome as he munches on some potato chips.
  • Tear Off Your Face: A victim of this courtesy of Moon Knight. It is Marc's most notorious act of vigilantism but Bushman definitely had it coming for all his heinous crimes.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: It's because of him trying (or succeeding) to kill Marc Spector that Moon Knight even exists.

    Bora

Bora

Alter Ego: Anzhela Federova

    The Committee

The Committee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rco020.jpg

First Appearance: Werewolf by Night (Vol. 1) #10

The Committee was a secret criminal-cabal of businessmen based out of Los Angeles. Originally making enemies of Jack Russell, they hired Marc Spector to hunt down and defeat the Werewolf. The Committee provided Spector with an early prototype of his Moon Knight suit, which he would later modify for use in his superhero career. Siding with Jack, Spector betrayed the Committee, becoming their longstanding enemy as well. The organization would send many assassins after Moon Knight over the years before the group was eventually brought down.

Years later, a new Committee formed from the ashes of the old one, this time hellbent on putting an end to their old enemies. They manipulated events that lead to Marc Spector becoming crippled and ostracizing himself, leaving him in a pit of alcoholism and despair. Deciding that it was time to strike the finishing blow, they sent Taskmaster to kill Spector and his loved ones. This did not have the intended effect, instead revitalizing Spector to become the Moon Knight again, who made quick work of the new Committee, crashing a jet plane into their offices whilst they were inside. While several of their members did survive, the message was clear, and the Committee took the hit off Spector.

    Conquer Lord

Conquer Lord

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2115649_14881_2516_16606_1_marvel_spotlight_super.jpg

Alter Ego: Mr. Quinn

First Appearance: Marvel Spotlight (Vol. 1) #28

One of Moon Knight's first villains, Mr. Quinn ran a small criminal empire in New York City and sought to gain control of the entire city by having his pawn become mayor in the upcoming election. The only person that he believed to be a threat to his plans was Moon Knight, and he went to great lengths to procure the superhero's secret identity and various video files depicting him in action from the group known as the Committee. He had made sure to place spies all throughout the city, infiltrating the police force, and even Steven Grant's mansion. However, in the end, he proved no match for Moon Knight who put a stop to his plans.

  • Flat Character: He is a "criminal mastermind" of vague background, who wants to "destroy the Moon Knight" to test his abilities who, upon being defeated, never appeared again.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: Had a pit of crocodiles which he fed his enemies to.
  • Right-Hand Cat: Had two large pet rats.
  • Starter Villain: The first villain Moon Knight ever "officially" fought against (the actual opponent being Werewolf by Night).
  • Trap Master: Conquer-Lord liked to set-up elaborate traps in order to combat his opponents. These traps would usually test an opponent's skills though provided the Conquer-Lord himself with an advantage.

Deadzone

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/89561_18420_deadzone.jpg

Alter Ego: John De Zoan

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #45

"Your mercy-tainted philosophy will never prove strong enough to survive the sacred pain of pleasure... or endure the secret pleasure of pain!"

A vigilante terrorist and enemy of Moon Knight consumed with eliminating sinners with his electrical whips. Reanimated from an electric chair, Deadzone is religiously obsessed and an erratic enemy to both sides of the law.

  • Blood Knight: A vigilante terrorist consumed with eliminating sinners with his electrical whips.
  • Create Your Own Villain: Moon Knight cutting the power to the prison just as De Zoan was being electrocuted resulted in him being declared dead, but then awakening with superpowers and escaping.
  • Dodge the Bullet: The accident that gave him his powers also also increased his speed. This was demonstrated by him being able to dodge gunfire from multiple opponents.
  • Enhanced Archaic Weapon: Wields electrified whips.
  • Lightning Lash: He fights with electrical whips.
  • The Man They Couldn't Hang: Survived the electric chair due to Moon Knight cutting the power as he was being electrocuted.
  • Psycho Electro: Wields electrified whips and is obsessed with punishing sinners.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: Deadzone's real name is John De Zoan.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Wields adamantium truncheons he took off Moon Knight. This multi-purpose weapon can be used for blunt force trauma, throwing, extends into a bo-staff, or deploys as a whip.
  • Vigilante Man: A vigilante terrorist consumed with eliminating sinners with his electrical whips.

    Deathbringer

Deathbringer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daniel_decriscio_earth_616_from_moon_knight_vol_1_197_001.jpg

Alter Ego: Daniel DeCriscio

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #197

Known on the streets as Deathbringer, Daniel is one of the mob's best hitmen. He was killed by his adopted daughter Lyla.

  • Alliterative Name: Daniel DeCristo.

  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Deathbringer
  • Professional Killer: Daniel DeCriscio was a hitman for the Italian Mafia.
  • Raised by Rival: When he was sent to kill the head of the Chinatown Triads, the man's wife and 2-month-old daughter turned out to be at home. After killing the baby's parents, she was entrusted to Daniel.
  • Training from Hell: Daniel raised Lyla in a cruel way; he made her fight on the streets for her own food, and never gave her anything. While Daniel never abused her physically, he didn't allow her to sleep or eat until she trained. Daniel taught her to kill before she even hit puberty.

    Dr. Emmet

Dr. Emmet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doctor_emmet_earth_616_from_moon_knight_vol_1_188_001.jpg

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 8) #1

Dr. Emmet was a psychiatrist and adept at hypnosis. She worked at the Putnam Psychiatric Hospital in Illinois during the time Marc Spector was committed there.

  • Ambiguously Evil: The reveal that she's Real After All puts her into this position, though it was still up in the air even back in the Lemire run. It's not clear if she really did have malicious intentions for Marc or if Marc is just trying to resist her treatments by seeing her as an enemy that fits into his regular rogue's gallery.
  • Body Horror: She was almost burnt to death by Patient 86, losing all her hair, one eye, and becoming severely disfigured.
  • Eye Scream: The fire that severely scarred her also took her right eye.
  • Last-Name Basis: She's never referred to by her first name.
  • Real After All: Perhaps. She's a major antagonist in Jeff Lemire's run and the surreal nature of that series makes it unclear if she was an actual psychiatrist treating Marc, an incarnation of the Egyptian goddess Ammut, or neither of the above. Max Bemis's run shows that she is indeed real, only to get quickly killed off by the Sun King.

    Elisa Warsame

Elisa Warsame

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4228109_screenshot2014_11_18at83401pm.png

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 7) #1

"You're not insane. Your brain has been colonized by an ancient consciousness from beyond space-time. Smile."

Marc Spector's psychiatrist. As a young girl, she witnessed the murder of her family at the hands of rogue militia men led by General Aliman Lor. When Marc Spector came for a session, she hypnotized him to convince the Egyptian deity, Khonshu, to leave Spector and join her.

    The Hellbent

The Hellbent

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hellbent.jpg

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #44

The Hellbent were the result of centuries of uncontrollable breeding between the species that existed when the Elder Gods ruled the world. As time progressed they became more twisted, forming several lesser groups, among them the Hellbent Prime, Omega, and Templar Knights. The Templar Knights started abusing their powers by killing the lesser Hellbent and locking the pure ones in a cave, preventing them from diluting their blood. Though they were unaware of it, it was the duty of the Hellbent to guard the secrets of The Egyptian God Thoth, and all the secrets of life, death and immortality.

    Lupinar

Lupinar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lupinar.jpg

First Appearance: Savage Action #5

"I had no desire to become another carnival fixture, another "Famous Wolf-Faced Boy"! I didn't want them pointing and laughing at me — I wanted them to know the pain — even greater pain than I've endured — the pain of DEATH!"

The man who would become Lupinar was born with Hirsute Disease, or Hypertrichosis, which cursed him with a wolf-like appearance. A lifetime of cruel mockery left him with a burning hatred for the world, and he became a terrorist. His taste for theatrics attracted him to Moon Knight, and he taught to meet the man, seeing him as a worthy challenger in his schemes.

  • Actually Not a Vampire: Is not actually a werewolf. He merely has a condition that makes him resemble a werewolf.
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: On learning that Frenchie has shut down the nuclear threat, Lupinar thrusts himself onto Moon Knight's sword, preferring to die than to be imprisoned.
  • Empty Quiver: Lupinar was the benefactor of a revolutionary terrorist cell that planned to use nuclear weapons to hold Manhattan hostage. Unbeknownst to the terrorists, Lupinar planned to detonate the weapon regardless of whether the ransom was paid.
  • Freudian Excuse: Lupinar felt that because of his condition he was trapped in the mansion where he lived, making him resentful of the people of the outside world.
  • Master Swordsman: Is an expert with the blade.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His actual birth name wasn't revealed, leaving him as only Lupinar.
  • Werewolf Theme Naming: Although not actually a werewolf, he nevertheless adopts the wolf-themed name 'Lupinar'.

    Lynn Church

Lynn Church

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/671352_lynnchurch_02.jpg

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #21

Lynn Church is a cyborg that works with the Secret Empire.

  • Cyborg: Seems to be mostly mechanical but with her own will.
  • Redemption Equals Death: She decided Jeff Wilde was going too far in his attack on Moon Knight. In the ensuing fight between the three of them, Jeff was killed and after helping an injured Marc out of the sewers, she detonated herself and destroyed the sewer base.

    Master Sniper
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/master_sniper.jpg

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #17

He worked for Nimrod Strange, commander of the Third World Slayers.

    Midnight

Midnight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2633644_moon_knight__9___page_9.jpg

Alter Ego: Jeffrey Wilde

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #4

Jeff Wilde was the son of Anton Mogart, the Midnight Man. When he was sixteen, Jeff tracked his father down, only to find him dying of cancer. In his last days, Mogart recounted his stories and techniques to Jeff, though begged him not to use these secrets on the wrong side of the law. Honoring his father's dying wish, he took the mantle of Midnight and joined Moon Knight to atone for his father's wrongdoings. He appointed himself Moon Knight's sidekick, though Spector was reluctant.

His heroic career was short-lived, as he was captured by the Secret Empire and turned into a cyborg and sent against Moon Knight and other heroes, where he was defeated and left for dead. He had actually survived, and thinking himself Moon Knight's partner, awaited contact from the hero. Years went by, and what remained of his body and his sanity began to deteriorate. Infuriated by Moon Knight's abandonment of him, he set out to enact his revenge on the hero, along with a fellow cyborg Lynn Church.

  • Cyborg: Possesses a cyborg body enhanced with rocket powered feet, super-extendable arms, super-strength, and laser beams.
  • Energy Weapon: His cyborg form included laser beams.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Was Moon Knight's sidekick until he was captured by the Secret Empire and turned into a cyborg and sent against Moon Knight and other heroes.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: For Moon Knight.

    Midnight Man

Midnight Man

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moon_knight_vol_1_3.jpg

Alter Ego: Anton Mogart

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #3

"Greed is the purest motivation— the others tend to get sticky with complications."

A costumed thief who specializes in stealing priceless antiques, and who always hits his targets at midnight. He has also worked with Bushman on several occasions. He is also the father of Jeffrey Wilde, the hero-turned-villain Midnight.

  • Badass Normal: A skilled martial artist and infiltrator.
  • Body Horror: After falling into a drainage viaduct, toxic waste melted his face.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Encouraged his son to avoid a life of crime.
  • Gentleman Thief: A costumed thief who specializes in stealing priceless antiques, and who always hits his targets at midnight.
  • Theatre Phantom: After his face was melted, Midnight Man went insane and started living in the sewers, started collecting trash instead of treasure, and generally acting like a cut-rate Phantom of the Opera.

    Morpheus

Morpheus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/147689_61823_morpheus.jpg

Alter Ego: Robert Markham

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #12

Robert Markham had a rare viral infection that affected his DNA. He approached Dr. Peter Alraune (brother of Marlene Alraune) who gave him an untested experimental drug. This drug had severe side effects in that Robert was grotesquely transformed and that he can never sleep. Going by the name Morpheus, after the Greek god of dreams, he begins to accumulate psionic energy due to unforeseen abilities the drug grants him, which he uses to try and murder Peter Alraune. Moon Knight puts him into a medically induced coma to prevent the accumulation of psionic energy. However, while in the coma, Morpheus's powers develop even further, allowing him to induce nightmares in the minds of his victims.

  • And I Must Scream: Whenever he's placed in a coma his mind remains wide awake (and quite capable of malice given he's a telepath).
  • Arch-Enemy: Often positioned as one of Moon Knight's deadliest and most reccurring foes and he has been positioned as the ultimate threat (even above Bushman) more than once.
  • Freudian Excuse: He's a unhinged psychopath now, but he only got that way due the terrible side-effects of the drug that cured his illness. Hard not to sympathize with his desire for vengeance on the doctors who treated him.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: A experimental drug tried to cure him from his chronic disease. They made him into a nightmare fiend instead.
  • Lean and Mean: Razor-thin and quite sadistic.
  • Looks Like Orlok: The bald look, pointed ears, sharp teeth and big eyes give him a remarkably Nosferatu-like look.
  • Master of Illusion: Fighting Morpheus himself isn't much the problem, the problem is fighting all the bizarre hallucinations he can induce in your perception.
  • Meaningful Name: Man who control dreams renames himself Morpheus after the greek deity of dreams.
  • Nightmare Weaver: Can twist and corrupt people's dreams, inducing in them horrifying nightmares. Scary thing is he can do this while they're awake, meaning the characters always have a hard time telling what's real and what's not.
  • Nothing but Skin and Bones: Morpheus is often shown extremely emaciated, presumably due the extended periods of being put in a coma.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: He is very intent on killing every single person responsible for his current predicament.
  • The Sleepless: Morpheus is biologically unable to sleep. The closest he can get is being in a medically-induced coma, but the moment the meds stop he wakes up...and he's not quite "asleep" either.
  • Supernatural Fear Inducer: Using his powers to make people experience their worst fears is his main M.O.

    Morning Star

Morning Star

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/schuyler_belial.png

Alter Ego: Schuyler Belial

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #29

Schuyler Belial was the leader of a Satanist group the Followers of the Left Hand Path. Known as Morning Star, he and his cult spent a year tracking down the Werewolf, Jack Russell, whose blood Belial thought could be used to "revitalize" his followers by turning them into werewolves.

  • Hollywood Satanism: Leader of a Satanist group the Followers of the Left Hand Path.
  • Meaningful Name: Belial is the name of a demon. Of course, it is likely he chose the name himself.

    Night Shift

Night Shift

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3093273_marvelzombies400209.jpg

First Appearance: Captain America #330

A team of supervillains with an occult theme founded by the Shroud.

  • Affably Evil: Digger of the Night Shift. Always joking and jovial, but ready to fight and is still a criminal.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Tick Tock can see up to one full minute into the future and uses his abilities in the Night Shift.
  • Good Feels Good: While working for the Superior Spider Man. In the last issue of Vol. 2 Digger comments that he liked playing hero, even if it was only for money.
  • Rogues' Gallery Transplant: Introduced as an enemy of Spider-Woman, but they have faced Moon Knight too.
  • You Have Failed Me: Count Nefaria kills them for their past failures.

    Princess Nepthys

Princess Nepthys

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2249682_nepthys2.jpg

Alter Ego: Sandahl Swarn

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #35

Sandahl Swarn was working for The Company on experiments to create perfect agents using body and mind-altering substances. One day, her lover, Randall Spector, returned from a mercenary mission in the Middle East bearing some strange papyrus documents. When she found out what the documents meant, she and her branch went rogue, taking much of their equipment with them, and joined the Cult of Khonshu. She took the name Princess Nepthys (after the Egyptian Goddess Nephthys) and set a plan in motion to make Randall the true avatar of Khonshu.

  • Alliterative Name: Sandahl Swarn
  • Big Bad Wannabe: She had major plans of creating a terrorist army with an absolute devotion to herself. She ended up with a small group of rather incompetent henchmen, who were mostly annihilated by the Punisher in less than a day's work.
  • Killed Off for Real: Killed during a fight with The Punisher and hasn't returned.
  • Never Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight: In her final battle, Nepthys was only armed with a dagger. Punisher shot her with an energy rifle before she managed to do any damage.
  • Sham Supernatural: Claimed she empowered Shadowknight using "lunar energies" during an astrological alignment to bestow the strength of Khonshu on him, Marc Spector inferred she was only using terrestrial chemicals and drug therapies from her time in the CIA program mixed with some theatricality
  • Stripperiffic: Seen wearing only a golden bikini.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Her only story arc made it seem that she was a replacement for the villainess and cult leader Plasma/Leila O'Toole, who had been killed in combat with Moon Knight in Marc Spector: Moon Knight #25. Both were young priestesses of Egyptian cults, and both had armies of moon-themed henchmen. The main difference was that Leila was a mutant with genuine powers, while Sandahl was only using technology and brainwashing techniques.

    Seth the Immortal

Seth the Immortal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seth_the_immortal_2.jpg

Alter Ego: Seth Phalkon

First Appearance: Marc Spector: Moon Knight #43

Seth was at one point a high-ranking member of the Order of the Knight of Templar, who were dedicated to infiltrating groups and learning all they could, so they could document the real history. Seth and the original Knight Templar swore a dark promise to the Egyptian god Thoth, that involved them protecting the Hellbent and in return, Thoth would give them all his secrets. Seth, craving even more power, began conspiring with the Hellbent and took several of them as his wives, creating half-breed offspring who could live amongst the humans. He subsequently created the racial class system of the Hellbent to keep them divided and weak and easier for him to control. Seth has lived for centuries thanks to the arcane magics he has learned from the Templars and Hellbent.

  • Life Drinker: Seth can drain the life-force of others upon contact, slowly aging them in the process. If he continues he can drain a person until they are nothing but a skeleton.
  • Wolverine Claws: Has claw fingers.

    Shadow Knight

Shadow Knight

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1265328_104_shadowland__moon_knight_2.jpg

Alter Ego: Randall Spector

Notable Aliases: Hatchet-Man, Nightshadow

First Appearance: Hulk! Magazine #18

"Useless? I think you've mistaken me for someone else. You see, I have great purpose."

Randall Spector was the often-overlooked brother of Marc Spector. As a child, Randall often felt underappreciated next to his brother, who received much more attention from their rabbi father. The two boys would often play war together, something Randall didn't like very much because he always lost. This angered him greatly, and their father put a stop to it as he began noticing violent tendencies emerging in Randall. As he grew older, he felt as if his life was building up towards a greater purpose that would be revealed to him eventually. He married and had a daughter before joining the army.

He managed to excel in the military, something he took great pride in until he was critically wounded in battle. During his hospital stay, he attacked a nurse and was discharged, losing his health care and pension in the process, resulting in his wife leaving him and him unable to find work. Feeling like he had been cheated out of everything in life by the incident, he began stalking and murdering nurses in Central Park, which brought him into direct confrontation with Moon Knight, his own brother. During the ensuing struggle, Moon Knight seemingly killed him.

However, as is the case in comics, he reappeared years later, this time with a new target for his vengeance; his brother, Marc Spector. As the brother of Moon Knight, he has been led to believe that he has a similar connection with Khonshu, something which has been exploited by multiple people over the years. In this new form, he becomes the Shadow Knight and seeks to depose Marc Spector and take his place as the Fist of Khonshu.

  • Always Second Best: Rand always felt like this to Marc growing up.
  • Ax-Crazy
  • Back from the Dead: Been brought back at least twice. First by the Committee, then by the Hand.
  • Came Back Wrong: As stated above, resurrected by the Hand.
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Marc's Abel.
  • From Camouflage to Criminal: Went from soldier to serial killer to undead ninja assassin.
  • Multiple-Choice Past:As the Hatchet-Man in a 1979 storyline. Randall was depicted as a misogynist serial killer. With a particular obsession with nurses. He was physically fit, but had no apparent special skills. The story also made a point that the killer had extremely poor spelling in his written messages, though Randall was a spelling bee champion as a kid. Implying that he had lost his mental skills. In a 1991 storyline, it was retconned that the Hatchet-Man was an imperfect copy/"clone" of the real Randall. He had been implanted with Randall's memories up to a point in his life. The real Randall turned out to be a rogue intelligence agent, cultist of Khonsu, and aspiring super-villain. He was also motivated by an obsessive love for his lover Nepthys, and was willing to sacrifice his own life in order to protect her.
  • Serial Killer: During his time as Hatchet Man.

    Slasher

Slasher I

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slasher_crawey.jpg

Alter Ego: Jimmy Crawley

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #2

Jimmy Crawley was the son of Bertrand Crawley. All Jimmy could remember of his father was that he was a drunk and always argued with his mother. Shortly after the separation of his parents, his mother passed away for reasons unknown, and he forever blamed his father. Having found out his father was a homeless man, he figured by killing enough bums he would eventually find and kill Bertrand Crawley. And so, dawning a mask and sickle, he called himself The Slasher.

Slasher II

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slasher_ex_shield_agent_earth_616_001_2.jpg

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 4) #1

An ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent wounded in action who hunts able-bodied people for their body parts.

  • Body Horror: He's essentially turned himself into a Frankenstein's monster all so he could return to his physical prime, which was abruptly taken away by an IED bomb.
  • Chekhov's Gun: His SHIELD credentials end up in the hands of Ryan Trent, the second Black Spectre, who uses them to pose as a SHIELD agent and interview Marc Spector's former allies.
  • Human Resources: He would ambush and kill people on the surface, specifically fit individuals, to take their muscles and implant them into his body, believing he was giving their muscles a better use than they did.
  • Monster of the Week: For his issue. He dies by the end of it.
  • No Name Given: He is actually never called the Slasher in-story (though Flint calls him "a slasher" based on his crimes as he sees them). The issue's title is what indicates the connection between this guy and the previous holder of the name.
  • Organ Theft: He would ambush and kill people on the surface, specifically fit individuals, to take their muscles and implant them into his body, believing he was giving their muscles a better use than they did.
  • Self-Surgery: After finding an abandoned S.H.I.E.L.D. base in the sewers of Manhattan, the former agent outfitted himself with old cybernetic equipment. He then started implanting himself with muscle tissue he stole from healthy individuals.
  • Serial Killer
  • Villain Has a Point: Played for Laughs when Mister Knight notes how stupid his plan is.
Mister Knight: So I've got this straight: you go up, you hide, you track fit people, and then you kill them, take pieces of them down here, and paste them into your body with obsolete, exotic machinery. And you think this is the best use of their lives and your time and skills.
Slasher: No offense, buddy, but you're a mile underground wearing a white suit and a bag on your head.
    Mister Knight: Fair point.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: He did this to himself.

    Stained Glass Scarlet

Stained Glass Scarlet

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/327812_173930_stained_glass_scarle.jpg

Alter Ego: Scarlet Fasinera

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #14

"He was with me. Beside me. As he's been with me for so long: the sun behind that casts my shadow ahead. We're bound at the soul, he and I. I breathe, he exhales."

Abused by her father, Scarlet had an unhappy childhood. One evening when she had had enough of it, she secretly killed her own father, by lighting his bed with a cigarette. His death was considered an accident and she was sent to live with her uncle and aunt, where her living conditions were improved. Later in life, she met and married Vince Fasinera, a small-time criminal, believing that she could save him from himself. She was wrong, and he simply mistreated her, much like her father had. Despite this, they had a child together, though Vince wanted nothing to do with it. Vince later died, gunned down on the steps of a church, and their son turned to a life of crime himself.

When he escaped prison, Scarlet took it upon herself to save her son from his life of crime, but in the end, was forced to kill him. Scarlet turned vigilante and started hunting down all the criminals who had ever had a hand in turning her son to a life of crime. She and Moon Knight came into conflict but, both recognizing a kindred spirit in the other, went their separate ways. Later, Scarlet seemed to develop a psychic link to Moon Knight. As she fought with her own mental demons, she came into conflict with Moon Knight again. Throwing herself from a bridge, she was presumed dead, though no body was ever found...

  • The Blank: As a goddess, her face is just made of a single color of stained glass, without even a hint of facial features in the shape of a head.
  • Calling Card: Scarlet always draws her symbol (a stylized "S") in the blood of her victims. After her (apparent) death it becomes a symbol of worship.
  • Color Motif: Blood-red-scarlet, used in direct contrast with Moon Knight's stark white (as they're both portrayed wearing similarly long cloak).
  • The Dreaded: Criminal outfits quickly learn to fear the Stained Glass Scarlet and her crossbow.
  • Deity of Human Origin: In Moon Knight (2021) it turns out that she died off-panel while resisting arrest. However, after her legend spread and people started praying to her for vengeance she was reborn as a goddess.
  • Foil: Both Scarlet and Marc Spector are broken, traumatized individuals on a path of vengeance against those they perceive as criminals. The difference is Scarlet is much more violent in her methods and Moon Knight sees himself as a paladin of an Egyptian God, while Scarlet sees herself as a paladin of the Christian (Roman Catholic, to be precise) God.
  • Knight Templar: Goes on the warpath against crime very assured of her righteousness in it, despite her murderous tactics.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Her earlier appearances toyed with how much she was a instrument of a vengeful God and how much she was just a mentally unbalanced woman doing vigilante killings. Moon Knight (2021) would throw her firmly in the "magic" side of the equation by making her a Deity of Human Origin post-mortem.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Her goddess form has an extra set of arms that wield a knife and a crossbow.
  • Never Found the Body: She's presumed dead, but her body was never found to confirm.
  • Reincarnation:
    • Her psychic connection to Moon Knight is suggested to be due to her being an incarnation of an entity once close to Khonshu.
    • Based on her comments about Mr. Knight's mask and Ellis's run having themes on resurrection and afterlife, the eponymous girl of "Scarlet" is implied to be a reincarnated Stained Glass Scarlet.
    Scarlet: Your face.
    Mr. Knight: It's a mask.
Scarlet: No, it's not a mask. It's your face.
    Mr. Knight: Smart kid.
  • Poetic Serial Killer: Kills criminals (and crime-affiliated people) with a crossbow before drawing her symbol with their blood.
  • Tragic Villain: Scarlet was once a kind woman who saw everyone in her life killed, ruined or corrupted by crime (including her own husband and son). Now she's a ruthless vigilante of New York's streets.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Moon Knight feels terribly sorry for her and constantly tries to talk her out of what she's doing. It never works.

    Sun King

Sun King

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sun_king.jpg

Alter Ego: Patient 86

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 1) #188

A mysterious mental asylum patient with the ability to manipulate fire. A victim of bipolar disorder, Patient 86 was a pyromaniac admitted to Ravencroft Institute, where he was treated by Dr. Emmett. Emmett, recognizing 86's situation to be similar to that of Marc Spector's, attempted to treat him by introducing him to Egyptian mythology. Needless to say, it only made things worse and made 86 realize he was an incarnation of Amon Ra, the God of the Sun and Khonshu's father.

Dubbing himself the "Sun King," 86 destroyed Ravencroft in an inferno and set out to destroy Moon Knight as part of Khonshu and Ra's war with each other that has been occurring for centuries.

  • Affably Evil: Comes across as very cheery and kind when in public, with people being very eager to talk to him. He's also an obscenely violent pyrokinetic.
  • A God Am I: Went from a humble mental patient to believing himself to be the literal avatar of Amon Ra.
  • Dissonant Serenity: He's very creepily calm about the fact that he's murdered people. Suffering from bipolar disorder, he switches from this to being maniacally angry.
  • Legacy Character: The role and identity of the Sun King has apparently been passed down from person to person, all of whom have had encounters with Khonshu's avatars.
  • Playing with Fire: A pyrokinetic, but is apparently not immune to his own flames.
  • Power of the Sun: Hence his codename.

First Appearance: Moon Knight (Vol. 8) #189

The Truth can touch someone and makes them experience the perverted side of humanity, thus making them see "the truth".

  • The Corruption: Sometimes The Truth can't control when he influences another person, and simply being in the proximity of another causes them to become affected by his powers.
  • The Corrupter: Whenever The Truth touches someone, he makes them experience the pervert side of humanity, and thus make them see "the truth." When this happens for a long period, the victims start to bleed from their eyes.
  • Healing Factor: The Truth has a level of regeneration, since his eyes recovered from being stabbed by Spector's Crescent Darts.
  • No-Sell: It was proven that The Truth's powers don't work well on mentally unstable people, such as Moon Knight.
