  • Heroes Prefer Swords: He trained kendo alongside Chihiro, and his vessel powers manifest as a blade.
  • The Lancer: Being his oldest, and possibly only friend, he serves as this for Chihiro.
  • You Killed My Father: Develops a grudge on Jun for being the one who opened the gate that turned his father into a monster.
  • Ship Tease: It's light and subtle, but he and Tsubaki are quite fond of each other.

Isshin Kakihara

  • Coat Cape: Wears his coat this way, for no apparent reason beyond looking cool.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Whenever he's not being nosy, he can be quite a good investigator.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While at first he seemed like an unreasonable jackass towards Chihiro, in the end he just had a lot of resentment within him and ended up giving his life to save Chihiro.
  • Never My Fault: He decides it wasn't his fault Tsubasa turned into Aero, so he blames Chihiro instead.
  • Parental Abandonment: His parents committed suicide when he was young.
  • Taking the Bullet: Protects Chihiro from Kaburagi's blade at the cost of his own life, telling him to live for all those who have perished.

  • Anime Hair: His red hair looks rather improbable and it stays even in familiar form.
  • Combat Medic: A doctor who also has heroic vessel powers.
  • Foil: To Jun. He has red hair while Jun is blue, he wears normal glasses while Jun always wears sunglasses and he dresses as a doctor while Jun looks more like a biker.
  • Nice Guy: A genuinely nice and polite man who gives Chihiro advice.
  • Meaningful Name: Inuki means dog and his familiar form looks like a giant werewolf.

  • Battleaxe Nurse: Gives that impression with her least than desirable bedside manners.
  • Enhanced Archaic Weapon: Her blood armament is a whip with a pointed tip like a devil's tail.
  • Eyepatch of Power: Wears a medical eyepatch for an undescribed reason, and it even turns red when using her powers.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While her manners leave something to be desired, she truly cares about Inuki and his wellbeing.
  • Over-the-Shoulder Carry: Koume is seen doing this with a man much taller than she is.
  • Zettai Ryouiki: Her socks go past her knees up to her thighs, making her a Grade A.

Yuri Shiraki

  • Anti-Villain: She doesn't seem to enjoy causing harm, and would rather not fight Chihiro, but she feels it's necessary to save the world.
  • Battle Ballgown: Her vessel powers manifest as a long skirt that gives this impression.
  • Childhood Friends: With Chihiro.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Again, with Chihiro.
  • Coat Cape: She wears her coat this way.
  • Friendly Enemy: Despite technically opposing Chihiro, she genuinely likes him and wishes circumstances were different.

Jun Aoi

  • Antagonist in Mourning: He's genuinely sad when Inuki dies, holding a rose in his honor.
  • Badass Fingersnap: This is how he activates gates.
  • Cool Shades: Always with sunglasses, and they even turn red when using his powers.
  • Foil: To Inuki. He has dark blue hair to Inuki's red, he wears sunglasses while Inuki wears normal glasses and he dresses in a blue leather jacket while Inuki wears a doctor's outfit. Their names even mean Blue and Red.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: He appears to wear a leather jacket.
  • In the Back: Kaburagi stabs him in the back when he tries to kill Chihiro.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He and Inuki used to be close friends, until circumstances drove them to opposing sides.

Haru Minakami

Jun's most subordinate and friend of Akira's.
  • Anti-Villain: He doesn't seem to hold any malicious intentions and merely follows Jun's and Grumman's orders.
  • Big Brother Worship: Has a very strong admiration for Jun and sees him as a strong example of manliness, not unlike an ideal cool big brother.
  • Dynamic Entry: Haru enters the fight by punching Koume in the face. She's unamused about it.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Compared to Jun and Yuri, he clearly has very little knowledge about their group, or his own powers.

Kaburagi Kark

  • Cool Mask: His vessel powers give him one.
  • Hero Killer: Has the highest kill count before the final battle, since he killed Marie, Kakihara, Jun, Akira and Haru.
  • In the Back: He usually stabs his victims this way, as Marie, Isshin and Jun find out.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Wears a full suit, hat and scarf.
  • Sinister Scythe: His familiar wields one and uses it to impale Marie from behind.
  • Wicked Cultured: He's a pianist who constantly uses music metaphors alongside his love of death.

  • Jousting Lance: Her blood armament is a large lance.

  • This Is Gonna Suck: Has this expression when Isshin surprises her at a bar.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Lost his right arm in the same incident provoked by Chihiro's mother Mitsuki.
