Align the stars

"The champions of Targon gaze toward the heavens for answers, and sometimes the heavens gaze back. By the glory of day or the strength of night, all may shoot for the stars. Are you ready to conquer the summit?"

Legends of Runeterra cards based in the region of Mount Targon.

    In General
  • Star Power: Targonians derive their abilities from their connection to Celestials. This can manifest in many forms such as the Aspects, who merge with a celestial to gain cosmic powers. A large part of Targonian decks is invoking Celestial units and spells which grant extraordinarily powerful tools to use in battle, from extra powerful units to spells that can completely wipe out the enemy line in one go.

Factions

The Solari

The Lunari

Mountain Travelers

The Ottrani

A tribe of Vastaya that live beside the mountain. Soraka took on a form similar to them upon moving to Targon. Their abilities all synergize well with heal-focused decks,
  • Fauns and Satyrs: They resemble purple-skinned satyrs. How humanoid or animalistic they look varies amongst them, with some like Illi looking like Cute Monster Girls, while her grandfather meanwhile looks much more like an anthropomorphic sheep.

4-Mana | 3/5 | Daybreak

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leona1.png
"Daylight breaks on the battlefield."

Click to see her Leveled Up card

She stood amidst them as she prepared for battle—radiating light, bedecked in crimson and gold, her eyes like embers. As the rising sun crowned her head in light, each Solari present lowered their eyes, not in shame, but in deference to their shining leader.

Diana

2-mana | 2/2 | Nightfall, Qucik Attack

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diana1.png
"Find your own light within the darkness."

Click to see her Leveled Up card

She stood amidst them as she prepared for battle—radiating light, bedecked in silver and blue, her eyes like stars. As the moon rose and shone down on her, each of the Lunari gathered there closed their eyes in silent prayer for her safety, and in gratitude.

The deadly Aspect of the Moon, Diana fights in a tragic conflict between the persecuted Lunari faith and their Solari oppressors, including against her own soul mate, Leona. Torn apart by divine duties and earthly attachments, Diana is set on a bitter quest for self-purpose and peace among the battle-torn faiths.

Diana has a Nightfall ability that gives her Challenger until end of round when triggered. Once you trigger Nightfall 4 or more times, she levels up, gaining +1/+1, causing her Nightfall effect to also give her +2/+0 until end of round and also triggering it on her again whenever you activate another Nightfall effect. Her signature spell is Diana's Pale Cascade.

I don't care what you write about me, you middling creature! Just make sure I'm described as handsome. And magnificent. And also very, very intelligent. Can you spell that?

Aurelion Sol Invokes a 7+ mana Celestial card when played and generates a random Celestial card at the start of each round. When you control a combined 20+ power of allies at the end of a round he levels up, gaining +1/+1 and reducing the cost of all your Celestial cards to 0. His signature spell is Aurelion Sol's The Skies Descend.

Soraka

Voiced By: Lisa Lindsley (English)
3-mana | 1/6 | Support

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soraka1.png
"To heal and protect."

Click to see her Leveled Up card

"Healing is, by its very essence, selfless. You need not draw the power from them; they give it willingly. Show them compassion, and you will see how they shine."

Born among the heavenly celestials, the kind Soraka looked in sorrow to a world of mortal suffering that saw no end. In an act of selflessness, she surrendered her immortal form to join the people of Runeterra, using her magical gifts to spread her message of compassion across the world.

Soraka's support ability heals both herself and her supported ally for 4 when they attack. After damaged ally units have been healed 4 or more times she levels up, gaining +1/+1, upgrading her support ability to fully heal her and her supported ally, and passively causing you to draw a card the first time a damaged ally unit is healed each round. Her signature spell is Soraka's Wish.

See League Of Legends: Si-Sy for her tropes

Aphelios

3-Mana | 3/3 | Nightfall

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aphelios1.png
"You must fight, for both of us."

Click to see his Leveled Up card

"With every conflict, we show the Solari we are worthy of respect. We have taught them that the moon's light is equal to their sun's, we have taught them not to disregard that which they did not know. And of the lessons they are yet to learn..."
- Lunari wanespeaker

Aphelios's Nightfall ability adds a Moon Weapon to your hand. The first time you play 2 cards in a round, and if you have no Moon Weapon alredy, you create in your hand the next Moon Weapon card which was set up ("Phased") by the previous one you played. When you play 4 or more Moon Weapons, Aphelios levels up, gaining +1/+1 and Quick Attack, creating his next Phased Moon Weapon at the start of each round as well as when you play your first 2 cards, and passively reducing the cost of all Moon Weapons by 1. His signature spell is Aphelios' Gifts From Beyond.

Pantheon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pantheon1.png
"By my spear, the gods will know war."

Click to see his Leveled Up card

Here stands Atreus, who had his freedoms stripped from him by the very Aspects he revered. Here stands the embers of War, who left Atreus with gifts few mortals can comprehend. Here stands a man, ready to fight and die for those he cherishes.
The man known as Atreus was chosen to become the Aspect of War, Pantheon, waging war as an unwilling tool of the gods. After the spirit of Pantheon was destroyed, Atreus took the aspect's powers into his own hands, fighting an endless battle to free mortals of the divine powers that seek to control them.

Pantheon levels up once you've targeted allies across 5 different rounds. When summoned or leveled up, he gains a random keyword for every round that an ally has been targeted.

A young Ottrani shepard who tends to a flock of stellacorns. When ever you heal an injured ally, Illi gains +2 power.

  • Cuteness Proximity: Her art has her cuddling a lone stellacorn, and she's otherwise quite enamored by them.
"Can I keep this one, Osu?"
  • A Day in the Limelight: She's the central character of the ''Call of the Mountain'' launch trailer, where she helps a young stellacorn reach the peak of Targon to rejoin its kind in the stars.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She's found her calling tending to the stellacorns, and is very loving towards them. She also benefits from allies being healed, showing a protective side to her teammates.
    <upon blocking> "Please, don't hurt them!"
  • Hero Worship: She really likes being with Soraka, who acts as something akin to The Mentor to Illi.
  • Magikarp Power: She starts off with 0 power, granting no offensive utility upon being summoned. When you heal enough allies however, Illi's power will start to snowball, and she can become a powerful unit should she stay alive to the end of the game.
  • Nice Girl: A kind, nurturing girl who tends to a flock of cute, celestial creatures called stellacorns.

Starry Scamp

Tyari the Traveler

2-Mana | 2/2

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tyari_the_traveler_lor.png
"My journey begins here and ends at the top."

In traveling, you must be open to the journey, which will inevitably change you. In traveling, you take something new with you... and you leave something of your old self behind.

A Targonian pilgrim who makes a journey to the peak, aiding and guiding others along the way. Their Support ability permanently gives their supported ally +2 health.

  • Barrier Warrior: Their artwork shows them casting a magical barrier to protect their fellow travelers. Presumably, this is also how their Support ability works.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Their journey to the peak is detailed in full in the color story "The Face In Her Stars".
  • Determinator: Through perseverance, Tyari's journey leads to them becoming an aspect of Targon.
Tyari: How did you do it? What was your secret?
    The Traveler: Persevere.

The Cloven Way

5-Mana | 5/4 | Overwhelm, Nightfall

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clovenway.png
"Doubt weighs heavy on their minds."
- Alune

"Mother Moon, our night is set,
May we halt those who would harm us,
And teach them regret."
- Lunari Prayer

A celestial resembling a ram. The Cloven Way's Nightfall effect will stun an enemy unit. If said enemy is a follower, they'll be stunned the following round as well.

  • Gravity Master: It's implied that Gravitum, Aphelios's gun that control gravity, is derived from the Cloven Way's powers. The celestial itself can use gravity to stun enemies, preventing them from attacking or blocking.
  • Unrealistic Black Hole: Its body resembles a large black hole, which makes you wonder how it doesn't just suck in all the matter around it.

Crescent Guardian

Eclipse Dragon

The Flight

1-Mana | 2/1 | Elusive

"Mother Moon, gift me confidence,
Fill me with The Flight's conviction,
Set me on my path."
- Lunari Prayer

A celestial resembling a heron. The Flight upon striking the enemy nexus will draw 1 card for their player before being shuffled back into the top 3 cards of their deck.

  • Fragile Speedster: It's hard to pin down thanks to elusive, and can strike a nexus with ease as a result. But a single offensive spell or block is enough to kill it.

Giddy Sparkleologist

3-Mana | 2/2

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giddysparkleologist.png
"My flutter friends are so pretty."

"...and then a sparklefly is like stardust that falls down to the ground and then flies back up and they're amazing and I saw one last night that was so pretty and I'm hungry and it flew up all the way to the STARS and then..."

A Targonian girl that loves to study sparkle flies. When the Sparkleologist beholds a celestial unit, she grants an ally +1 health and power, and a spellshield.

  • Barrier Warrior: She can protect allies with her spellshield buff.
  • Genki Girl: She really likes her sparkle flies, and will take any opportunity to gush about them to others.

Grandfather Rumul

8-Mana | 8/4 | Overwhelm, Spellshield

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grandfatherrumul.png
"The best journey brings me home."

"Listen, Osu. Do you hear that? Bells! Grandfather's back!"
- Illi, Star Shepherd

The patriarch of the Ottrani tribe of Vastaya, and Illi's grandfather. When Rumul is summoned, he grants two allies +4 health.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: While a pacifist and healer by trade, he's incredibly strong as an offensive unit, with a power count of 8 points. This is offset though by a smaller health count.
  • Friend to All Living Things: His goal in life is to help and heal as many people as he can. His interactions with other characters are almost nothing but kind words and caring gestures.
  • Gentle Giant: He dwarfs the other members of his tribe, especially his granddaughter. But he's nonetheless a kind and gentle figure.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: He's good friends with the visibly younger Soraka. Though given that she's a celestial, the actual age difference between the two is up in the air.
  • Walking the Earth: He travels beyond the reaches of his tribe's home to help those across all of Targon.

Herald of Dragons

2-Mana | 1/1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heraldofdragons.png

Broadbacked Protector (Vin)

4-Mana | 2/7

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/broadbackedprotector.png
"Our mountain groves are full of dangers, but I know 'em all."

"Nobody knows the paths of Targon like I do, so I get stuck with some of the, uh, willful stellacorns. Good thing they've got me to look after them!"

Vin, the Broadbacked Protector, is a very built Ottrani who protects the life around his people's grove. Every round, Vin will heal the nexus 3 points, but is damaged equal to the amount healed.

  • Cast from Hit Points: Healing the nexus takes a physical toll on him, and his health can thin out very quickly over multiple rounds.
  • Hero Worship: He looks up to Rumul as indicated by their interactions.
Rumul: "Each time I see you, you've grown so much."
Vin: "Of course. I have you to look up to."
  • Heroic Build: A very ripped vastaya who as show in his art, protects Targon's wildlife by sheer force of strength.
  • No Indoor Voice: He's usually pretty boisterous, which proves to be inconvenient for Lidari.
Lidari: "Quiet, Vin. You'll break my concentration."
Vin: "YOU CAN COUNT ON ME! QUIET AS A STAR!"
  • Stone Wall: He's got very poor damage, but a large pool of health which makes him great for blocking attacks.

Cygnus the Moonstalker

The Fangs

4-Mana | 2/2 | Lifesteal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fangs_5.png
"From darkness, light."
- Alune

"Mother Moon, show me the way,
Tear the sky open,
Show me beyond."
- Lunari Prayer

A celestial resembling a saber-tooth. The Fangs upon being summoned will invoke a Celestial card that costs 3 or less mana.

  • Panthera Awesome: It resembles a sabre-toothed tiger, and not only is it rare to find, but can invoke celestials and heal its player's nexus.

The Infinite Mindsplitter

8-Mana | 8/8 | Fury | Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/infinitemindsplitter.png
Herald of Dragons: "I hear the cosmos howling through her."

Travelers who lock eyes with the creature are said to be struck by a knowledge so profound, an insight so awesome, that their minds crumble beneath its gaze.

A being so ancient that it's accumulated knowledge goes beyond mortal comprehension. When the Mindsplitter is played, it selects two enemy units to stun at the beginning of every round thereafter.

  • Brown Note: Looking into its eyes will cause you to absorb knowledge so expansive that your mind will be scrambled beyond repair.
  • Draconic Abomination: Compared to other dragon in Runeterra, this things looks very alien and incomprehensible. It has two heads, each with a face consisting of only an eye-like member, and its torso appears to split open, revealing a vast cosmic energy from within.

Inviolus Vox

6-Mana | 5/6 | Fury | Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/invioulusvox.png
""The age of dragons has begun"

"Look to the heavens, and see as I do! First the signals, for by night they shine. Then the fury, for by day all burns. You will see! We will all see!"
- Herald of Dragons

A celestial dragon who heralds the destruction of Runeterra by his kind. Inviolus creates a random Dragon follower in hand the first time an ally with Fury kills an enemy each round.

Mentor of the Stones

Mountain Sojourners

Sun Guardian

    Celestials

Celestials in general

Celestial units are special followers that have to be invoked in order to summon them. This means playing other cards that have the invoke ability like other followers or spells.

  • Olympus Mons: These units are some of the most powerful beings in the League Universe, comprised of godly beings that reside in the cosmos. The catch though is that they require a lot of planning and resources to even summon them.

Celestial Units

The Charger

1-mana | 4/1 | Overwhelm | Celestial

The Destroyer

7-mana | 7/7 | Overwhelm, Spellshield | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_destroyer_lor.png

"To safeguard the spaces between land and sky, a horned guardian was placed in the stars over the mountains. Sturdy and swift, it traverses the night sky in search of intruders, whom it greets with an impact that sends shudders through earth and sky alike." - The Minotaur Histories

A mighty celestial in the form of a rhinoceros. When summoned, it gains +1 Attack for each Celestial card you previously played this game.

  • The Juggernaut: With 7 health and Spellshield, it's very hard to remove The Destroyer with means other than combat, and even then trying to block it will likely result in you taking some kind of damage.

The Golden Sister and The Silver Sister

6-mana | 4/3 | Lifesteal (The Golden Sister), Elusive (The Silver Sister) | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_sisters_lor.png
"Daylight's star will rule the skies."
"Praise evening's star to crown the night."

"From the heavens
Two beings came:
One was robed in silver's glow,
The other clad in golden flame..."

"...Though both were formed of cosmic light,
They fought, for they were too alike.
And so these two split night from day,
So each could always have their way..."
- Hymn of the Hours

Twin aspects representing the sun and moon. Of the two, only The Golden Sister can be Invoked or generated, and she will summon The Silver Sister when summoned.

The Great Beyond

9-mana | 8/8 | Elusive, Fury, Spellshield | Celestial, Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_great_beyond_lor.png

"Oh yes, my favorite constellation. I like to think it will be the first to rain down upon this forsaken mountain." - Aurelion Sol

A draconic creature created by Aurelion Sol. When summoned, it gains +1 Attack for each Celestial card you previously played this game.

  • Draconic Abomination: Resembles the upper half of a dragon (though concept art shows its full body), but is a Celestial with phenomenal cosmic power. It even bends the rules of the game itself to be treated as both a Dragon and a Celestial.
  • Implacable Man: Very difficult to remove thanks to Spellshield, nearly impossible to block thanks to Elusive, and anything that does block it will probably die and make it stronger.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: The only unit in the whole game to have two distinct groups. As such, The Great Beyond's card text has a line stating "I am a Dragon" as the Dragon group couldn't fit on the box for it (and this only serves as reminder text, so even if it's silenced it would still count as a Dragon).

The Immortal Fire

8-mana | 6/5 | Elusive | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_immortal_fire_lor.png

"For ages, the Immortal Fire flew alone, till one day she saw a young bird with fiery golden wings like hers. She rejoiced, for she had never known another like herself. But as years passed, the young bird grew old and flickered out. The Immortal Fire grieved, for she had never known death. And so she wept sparks and sighed herself ablaze, till she emerged, renewed in body but burdened with knowledge." - Shuriman folk tale

A celestial in the form of a phoenix. When summoned, she gains +1 Attack for each Celestial card you previously played this game, and the first time she would die, she fully heals herself instead.

  • The Phoenix: As per its name and motif, The Immortal Fire revives from being killed, but only once.

The Messenger

2-Mana | 2/2 | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/messenger_2.png
ARF

"As leaves unfurl from barren branches, the Lady of Spring sends her messenger to inform the Lord of Winter of the changing season. The messenger's bark startles the stars into new places in the sky, while his loyal heart warms the land."
- Song of the Seasons

A celestial in the form of a bulldog. When the Messenger is summoned, you draw one extra card.

  • Boring, but Practical: While a 2/2 with no keywords isn't particularly exciting for a Celestial, it's a decently-sized body that replaces itself in your hand with a drawn card, making it a decent unit for contesting the board early on and a good chump-blocker later on.
  • Precious Puppy: A cosmic being resembling a cute dog. Characters like Zoe absolutely adore them.
    Zoe: "Doggo, doggo, doggo!"

The Scourge

10-mana | 10/10 | Challenger | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_scourge_lor.png

Legends speak of a Scourge that lurks at the furthest reaches of the Celestial Realm. Here, it awaits the time-at-the-end-of-time, when it will wield the power of the stars to shatter the foundations of the world.

A monstrous, hydra-shaped being with more than a passing resemblance to Baron Nashor. When summoned, it gains +1 Attack for each Celestial card you previously played this game, and when it attacks, all other attacking allies gain +2/+2 and Overwhelm for the round.

  • Beast of the Apocalypse: Referred to as such by its flavor text, depicting it as a creature that destroys the world at the end of time.
  • Finishing Move: With its monstrous stats and high mana cost backed by powerful abilities, The Scourge's design is that of a card that, if it gets to attack, there won't be a next turn.

The Serpent

0-mana | 1/1 | Challenger | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_serpent_lor.png

"During Targon's first equinox, the people of the mountain attempted their first truce. But as their leaders laid their weapons down, one suddenly cried out in pain! Soldiers drew their spears, and all thoughts of peace were lost. Little did they know the true betrayer was a serpent hidden beneath their feet, forevermore a sign of violent times." - Targonian folk tale

A celestial in the form of a cobra.

  • The Great Serpent: A massive cobra made of stardust. Ironically it's actually one of the weakest celestial units stat-wise, but costs 0-mana and has the Challenger keyword which lets it handpick an early-game enemy to deal damage to in combat.
  • Nerf: The Serpent was formerly a 2/1, but traded far too efficiently for a 0-mana Challenger in that state.

The Traveler

4-mana | 3/4 | Celestial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_traveler_lor.png
"Let my stars guide all travelers onward."

A humanoid celestial and the ascended form of Tyari the Traveler. When played, she Invokes another Celestial card.

  • Deity of Human Origin: Started out as a mere human, but became a Celestial after scaling Mount Targon.
  • Enemy Summoner: She replaces herself in your hand with another Celestial card, which can very potentially be another unit (or, rarely, another copy of herself).
  • Gender Bender: As a human, Tyari was a male-coded nonbinary, but The Traveler is female.
  • Old Friend, New Gender: After scaling Mount Targon, Tyari returns as a female Aspect, to the surprise of the friends that supported them. Downplayed as it's not the change in gender identity that surprises them so much as Tyari becoming a Celestial.

The Trickster

3-mana | 3/3 | Elusive | Celestial

The Warrior

5-Mana | 5/5 | Challenger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/warrior_50.png
"War is everlasting."

The strongest star in the night's sky, they say, is that of the warrior. An ancient being, thought immortal, who descends from the stars to prove his worth in combat. Never has he been beaten, but all stories must end, and all stars must die.

The same celestial that once turned Atreus into Pantheon.

  • Posthumous Character: Canonically the Warrior was destroyed when Pantheon battled Aatrox, yet it continues to exist in this game somehow. Even his flavor text points out that his time eventually comes to an end.
Atreus: "You are dead and I am better for it."

    Empires of the Ascended

Common

Chip

1-Mana | 1/1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chip_53.png
"Wock solid!"

"Okay so hello I'm Chip an' I'm here to show you Targon! It's wowow big an' tall so I hope you got good shoes for da walkin'! Let's GO!"
- Adventures with Chip, part 1

Malphite's son, a tiny and adorable rock elemental. Chip gains +2 in health and power the first time you play a landmark card each game.

  • Baby Talk: His speech has poor enunciation and doesn't allow R sounds, making him come off as even more of a child.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Takes his papa Malphite's select quote from League. Though it sounds less badass and more endearing coming from the mouth of an inarticulate child.
    "Wock solid!"
  • Cheerful Child: He's generally a very chipper (heh) kid who reacts with overenthusiasm to everything going on around him. The flavor text of his and the rest of the expansion's new Targonian cards have him excitably introducing the locales and residents of the region to travelers.
  • The Cutie: Malphite and Taliyah both adore him, and Chip's dialogue is nothing but cute and inelegant child speak that emphasizes his excitable nature.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: With Taliyah, who acts like a Cool Big Sis towards him.
    Chip: "Taliiiiyah! Taliiiii!"
Taliyah: (playfully) "Chip?! You're the noisiest little rock!
  • Like Father, Like Son: Noted by Taliyah when Chip is summoned.
Taliyah: "You're just like your mountain!"
  • Punny Name: He's implied to be a piece of rock literally chipped off of Malphite.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: He basically amounts to a rock with stubby legs and a face, and yet is absolutely adorable.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: Killing Chip in front of Malphite will elicit a shocked and heartbroken vocal sound from the latter.
