Frozen Fortitude

"In the bitter cold of the frozen north known as the Freljord, the wilderness is torn asunder from a savage, three-way civil war. Those who call this place home must find the fire within to persevere through harsh conditions and stand as paragons of fortitude and resilience. Can you weather the path to victory?"

Legends of Runeterra cards based in the region of the Frejlord.

Factions

The Avarosa

The Winter's Claw

The Trolls

A brutal tribe lead by Sejuani that lives off of pillaging and dominating other tribes. Units associated with the tribe are often both aggressive and sustainable, being able to gain more and more power into the late game.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: The Reavers are obsessed with scarring themselves and typically receive permanent bonus +3 attack for every instance of damage they survive. While their proper leader Sejuani took a bit longer to show up in the game, they were played together with Braum who has a unique playstyle of having 0 attacking strength but being able to drag enemies to strike himself on attack - and then start summoning poros after enough damage was taken. His signature spell Take Heart also required its recipient to be damaged beforehand in order to receive a permanent +3/+3 boost.

"When I look out over my home, I see what it is, but also what it could be. Prosperous and plentiful, not only for my people, but for all those who seek peace. The Freljord, united."

Warmother of the populous Avarosan tribe, Ashe seeks to one day unite the tribes of the Freljord under a single banner. Wielding a powerful bow made of true ice, she fights to keep her people safe and retake of the ancient, tribal lands.

Ashe frostbites (reduces Power to 0) the strongest enemy unit whenever she attacks. Once you have Frostbitten 5+ enemy units, she levels up, gaining +1/+1, passively making any enemy with 0 Power unable to block, and creating a copy of Enchanted Crystal Arrow (a 2-mana slow spell which Frostbites one target enemy and all other enemies with 3 or less Health before letting its controller draw a card) on top of her owner's deck. Her signature spell is Ashe's Flash Freeze.

"Papa, tell the one about Braum and his door!"
"Or when his fall split a mountain in two!"
"Oh! Whattabout when he saved the tavern from the rampaging yeti?!"

A legendary hero of the Freljord, Braum's immense strength and courage are matched only by his endless kindness. With his mighty shield in hand, he'll protect as many Freljordians as he can, hoping to one day see the land become a peaceful haven for all.

Braum summons a Mighty Poro (a 3/3 Poro with Overwhelm) the first time he survives damage. When he takes 10 damage without dying he levels up, gaining +1/+1 and summoning a Mighty Poro every time he survives damage. His signature spell is Braum's Take Heart.

"Do not die for your cause. Live for it..."

The dreaded barbarian king, a lonely Tryndamere spent years wandering the Freljordian wastes in search of challenging and bloody battles. Having found kinship with Queen Ashe of the Avarosans, he's since become a key tool in several of their conquests, all to pursue Ashe's dream of a united Freljord.

If he would die for any reason, Tryndamere instead levels up and is fully healed, gaining +1/+5, Fearsome and Tough. His signature spell is Tryndamere's Battle Fury.

Anivia

6-Mana | 2/4

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/anivia1.jpg
"Forever watchful."

Click to see her leveled up art

"I was born from this hard land, and it is mine to safeguard. Time, war, even death itself will not stop my vigil."

A benevolent demigod of the Freljord, the many tribes of the land follow the Anivia and revere her as a symbol of change and seasons. Living in an endless cycle of rebirth, the Cryophoenix will use every ounce of her being to protect her lands and people.

Anivia casts a Glacial Storm when she attacks, which does one damage to all enemy units and the enemy Nexus, and has a Last Breath that summons a 0/1 Eggnivia, which will transform into a full-health Anivia at the start of any round in which you are Enlightened (at the full 10 mana). When her controller is Enlightened she also levels up, gaining +1/+1 and causing her Glacial Storm to do 2 damage instead. Her signature spell is Anivia's Harsh Winds.

See League Of Legends A for her tropes

Eggnivia

1-Mana | 0/1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eggnivia.png

"In the depths of winter's cold embrace, the Freljord's guardian awaits the hour of her return."

Anivia in her egg state. If you become Enlightened, Anivia will revive from her egg form and level up.

  • Why Won't You Die?: Like on Summoner's Rift, Anivia transforms into a helpless egg form (Eggnivia) on death. If you're Enlightened (have your mana maxed out to 10) then she transforms back into her true form at the start of every round, which also doubles as her level-up requirement. The only way to get rid of her permanently is to kill her once, reverting her to Eggnivia, then kill her again as Eggnivia. She used to be even stronger before nerfs, transforming back every turn even if you weren't enlightened, although Eggnivia was weaker as a 0/1 rather than an 0/2 (she eventually became too overwhelming and Eggnivia was nerfed back to 0/1 again). She can, however, be removed directly using a Detain/Purify combo, Silenced and Destroyed by cards like Sunburst, or Obliterated.

The Rising Tides

Sejuani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sejuani_lor_1.png
"Carved from the savage cold!"

Click to see her Leveled Up card

While her flail of True Ice is formidable, Sejuani herself is the weapon—forged in the bitter cold of the Freljord and tested against the freezing climes.

Warmother of the brutal Winter's Claw, Sejuani will ensure that her tribe survives at all costs by raiding and wiping out enemy factions to survive. Atop her mighty steed, Bristle, and with a flail of True Ice in hand, she strikes fear into the hearts of enemies and allies alike.

When played, Sejuani Frostbites an enemy and makes them Vulnerable for one round. Once you've dealt damage to the enemy Nexus on 5+ rounds she levels up, gaining +1/+1 and passively inflicting Frostbite to all enemy units the first time you damage your opponent's Nexus each round. Her signature spell is Sejuani's Fury of the North.

Trundle

Voiced By: Josh Tomar
5-mana | 4/6 | Regeneration

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/trundle.png
"King of trolls, coming through!"

Click to see his Leveled Up card

One by one, torches lit along the pass, throwing the scene into sharp relief. There were dozens of trolls, maybe hundreds, each one hulking, massive, and deadly.
"I'll ask one more time," Trundle snarled, hefting Boneshiver over one shoulder. "Are you gonna give up, or am I gonna have to break your skulls?"

Trundle creates an Ice Pillar card in hand when played. Ice Pillar is an 8-mana 0/8 Follower with Vulnerable that refills 8 mana when played and gives the strongest enemy unit Vulnerable until the end of the round when played and at the start of every round. When Trundle see Ice Pillar played he levels up, gaining +1/+1 and Overwhelm and permanently gaining +1/+0 when he attacks for each 8+ mana card he Beholds. His signature spell is Trundle's Icequake.

See League of Legends: T-U for his tropes.

"Shiver in your boots!"
-Trundle

"Haha! You didn't see that coming!"
- Trundle

A massive block of true ice discovered by Trundle. Playing the Ice Pillar refills 8 mana. When it's played, or at the start of each round, it grants the strongest enemy vulnerable for the round.

Lissandra

3-mana | 2/3 | Tough

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lissandra_lor_1.png
"Ages pass, yet I remain."

Click to see her Leveled Up card

The Watchers lurk just beyond these walls, suspended in ice, frozen in time... and while they wait, I have plans that must be set in motion..."

One of the legendary three sisters, alongside Serylda and Avarosa, that fought back the Watchers on their first arrival in Runeterra. Today, Lissandra leads the Frostguard, revered as a living saint... but none are aware of her darkest secrets, nor her pact with the imprisoned Watchers.

When played, Lissandra summons a Frozen Thrall. When you've summoned 2 or more units that cost 8 or more, she levels up, generating a Watcher in your hand, passively making your Nexus Tough, and generating a Fleeting 0-cost Ice Shard (a Fast spell that deals 1 to everything) in your hand at the start of each round. Her signature spell is Lissandra's Entomb.

See League of Legends: L-M for her tropes

Watcher

17-mana | 11/17

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/watcher_lor.png

"This is the end. As it was foretold — as I promised. Sisters... forgive me."
- Lissandra

An ancient, powerful being from the Void, trapped in the Howling Abyss. Though the Watchers were imprisoned by Lissandra, their seal is slowly weakening over time, leaving it only a matter of time before they escape. Once you've summoned 5 or more units with a cost of 8 or more, the Watcher's mana cost drops to 0, and when it attacks, it Obliterates your opponent's entire deck save for three non-Champion cards.

  • Eldritch Abomination: The Watchers are, in lore, incomprehensibly powerful beings from the Void, responsible for creating the Iceborn and aiming to eradicate reality. Their power certainly translates to the card in this game, which serves as a looming, game-ending threat.
  • Eye Beams: Its attack effect plays a small cutscene of the Watcher blasting the opponent's deck with a giant beam of light from its eye, eradicating most of their cards.
  • Godzilla Threshold: The Watcher is, to put it simply, Lissandra's absolute last resort for breaking an opponent that won't roll over and die to her armies of Frozen Thralls. If its enormous body doesn't kill the opponent, just managing to attack with the Watcher destroys the majority of your opponent's deck, severely limiting their time and options.
  • Mighty Glacier: While it starts out physically unplayable due to its mana cost, dragging the game out for long enough to summon a number of strong units will make it a 0-cost unit instead, freeing it to wreak havoc.
  • Nerf: Its initial version only required 4 summons of 8+ cost units to trigger its cost reduction and would Obliterate the opponent's entire deck, dooming them to lose on their next draw if they can't restock their deck. Both were changed due to a combo deck based on cheating out the Watcher far more easily than intended.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: And Lissandra knows it's only a matter of time before it breaks free. In-game, the player can do the unsealing themselves by summoning enough high-cost units.

Beyond the Bandlewood

Udyr

Voiced By: Sean Rohani
5-Mana | 5/4

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/udyr_1.jpg
"Gather spirits. Gather..."

Click to see his Leveled Up card

The most powerful of the Spirit Walkers, Udyr hears the voices of every man, beast and god in the Freljord, and channels their will as his own. Living in a land forever pushed into conflict, he seeks growth and mastery amidst it's battles.

Udyr creates a Stance Swap (3-mana Slow spell that grants an ally one of four Stances: Bear Stance grants +2/+2, Wildclaw Stance grants +2 Power and Overwhelm, Boar Stance grants +2 Health and Regeneration, and Ram Stance deals 1 damage to everything else) in your hand upon being summoned or striking, or reduces its cost to 0 if you already have one. Once you've played Stance Swap 3 times, Udyr levels up, gaining +1/+1 and passively gaining another +1/+1 for each Stance you've given to a unit during the game. His signature spell is Udyr's Sprits Unleashed.

Avarosan Trapper

3-Mana | 3/3

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avarosantrapper.png
"The trap is set."

"Caught nothing all week! Either those beasts are onto me, or something's scaring 'em off..."

A hunter on the lookout for prey, and unwittingly encounters yetis doing so. When summoned, the Trapper creates an Enraged Yeti in the top 3 cards of his player's deck.

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Considering Runeterra is home to all sorts of fantasy creatures, this guy thinking yetis aren't real seems odd.
    "Yetis? There's no such thing."

Babbling Bjerg

4-Mana | 3/3

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/babblingbjerg.png
"Will no one listen?"

"Y-You've gotta believe me! It was huge, I tell you, HUUUGE!"

An old man who claims to have seen terrible things out in the ice. When you summon Bjerg, you draw a unit with 5+ power.

  • Alliterative Name: Babbling Bjerg
  • The Cassandra: He's seen amazing and horrifying things out in the Freljord (most notably She Who Wanders and the Ancient Yeti) but nobody believes him except his nephew Ingvar.
  • Cassandra Truth: No one believes that he's seen any creatures trapped in the ice, which of course proves true upon the Ancient Yeti being summoned.
  • You Have to Believe Me!: Pretty much quotes this trope verbatim after coming back from an expedition where he lost all his companions to the yetis and other giant monsters of the Freljord.

Bull Elnuk

Enraged Yeti

1-Mana | 5/5 | Yeti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/enragedyeti.jpg

"Yetis? I just don't think they exi—AUGHHH!"

A terrifying adult yeti. Enraged yetis can only be summoned through the use of other cards including, Yeti Yearling, Avarosan Trapper, and the Tall Tales spell.

  • Papa Wolf: (and or Mama Bear) Two Enraged Yetis are summoned whenever a Yeti Yearling is killed, representing its parents coming to seek revenge.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Its sunken, glowing red eyes lend to its air of ferocity.

Feral Mystic

Icevale Archer

Kindly Tavernkeeper

3-mana | 3/3

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kindly_tavernkeeper_lor.png
"Warm hearts and hot soup!"

"This fine old establishment's the Tipsy Owl! We've got stews and brews a'plenty to chase away the chill. Hurry on inside!"

The proprietor of a tavern called the Tipsy Owl. When played, he heals an ally or your Nexus by 3.

  • Chef of Iron: He's normally a tavernkeeper and cook, but that doesn't mean he's not able to throw down. He is a Freljordian, after all.
(blocking) "I've carved meat bigger than you!"
  • Combat Medic: While his heal is definitely valuable, his 3/3 stats make him decent at trading blows with early units as well.
  • Skeptic No Longer: While he normally dismisses Bjerg's claims about yetis, summon one in front of him and he'll change his tune pretty quickly.

Lonely Poro

1-Mana | 1/1 | Poro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lonelyporo.jpg
"D'aww, don't be sad my friend!"
-Braum

Click to see the Jubilant Poro

"A lifetime in the Freljord, and still nothin's more chillin' than the sight of this sad little fellow."
-Poro Herder

A sad poro in need of a friend. If another poro is summoned, they instead become the Jubilant Poro.

  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Having other poros in play will lift the Lonely Poro's spirits, and even become a technically different unit that's the same poro but happy.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Going from lonely to jubilant is a very drastic shift in attitude.
  • Video Game Caring Potential: Statistically there's no real benefit to gaining a jubilant poro. Though you can still do it if it means cheering up the little guy.

Mighty Poro

3-Mana | 3/3 | Overwhelm | Poro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mightyporo.jpg
Braum: "Small and mighty!"

"Ol' Longhorn here lost an eye defending the Poro King himself from an ornery wildclaw! After all, it's not the size of the hammer but the size of the heart that matters."
- Poro Herder

A tall, strong poro wielding a hammer. Mighty Poros can be summoned either through their own card or when Braum's passive activates.

  • Elite Mook: Most poro units are weak Joke Characters who can't offer much usefulness with their stats. Mighty poros though make for decent offensive units that can tank a lot of early game damage as well.
  • Eyepatch of Power: On that they lost defending the Poro King no less.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He's got a very bushy moustache to match his power and emulation of the quite masculine Braum. Braum himself is quite proud.
Braum: "Haha, a good moustache on this one!"
  • Pintsized Powerhouse. They're quite stronger than the average poro, able to wield a hammer the size of their body with ease.

Omen Hawk

1-Mana | 1/1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/omenhawk.png
"Guide our allies, my friend."
-Ashe

"Three times our reavers reached Avarosan gates, and three time they were met with ready bows. What trickery warns them of our attacks?"
-Scarthane Steffen

A magical hawk allied with the Avarosans, scouting ahead for enemy threats. When played, it grants the top two allies in your deck +1 power and health.

  • Animal Eye Spy: It's implied to be able to psychically convey oncoming threats to its allies, hence the glowing eyes.
  • Red Shirt: Its usefulness lies in its passive which empowers other units in your deck. Otherwise it doens't offer much to compete with statwise.

Scarthane Steffen

3-Mana | 2/4

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scarthane_steffen.png
"Brothers born from battle."

"I sealed my oath to the Winter's Claw when Sejuani gave me my first scar. Every scar since has been earned in her service."

A warrior of the Winter's Claw. Steffen gains +3 power every time he survives damage.

  • Alliterative Name: Scarthane Steffen.
  • Exposed to the Elements: He seems fine traveling the frozen north with no shirt, likely to make him seem even tougher.
  • Magikarp Power: Downplayed. He'll gain power every time he survives damage, but unless he receives healing or health buffs, he'll die pretty quickly to stronger units.
  • Undying Loyalty: He serves Sejuani with absolute faith, fighting in her name and trying to expand the ranks of the Winter's Claw.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Shows off his physique and gnarly scars.

Stalking Wolf (and Snow Hare)

2-Mana | 3/2 | Challenger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stalkingwolf.png

"You cannot make a wolf from a hare."
- Winter's Claw proverb

Snow Hare

1-Mana | 1/1

"Wolf or hare, winter makes prey of us all."
- Avarosan proverb

A wolf chasing after a hare. When the wolf is summoned, the hare will be summoned on the enemy's side

  • Necessary Drawback: The Stalking Wolf is technically overstatted for its cost with 3/2 and Challenger, so summoning an extra body that you have to deal with counterbalances it.
  • Red Shirt: The hare's stats and lack of passive or keywords make it one of the weakest units in the game. Summoning it is means deliberately giving your enemy a useless unit that's like to be killed by the wolf anyway.
  • White Bunny: The hair is white as snow. Fitting given it lives in a frozen environment.

Troop of Elnuks

Unscarred Reaver

Wyrding Stones

Yeti Yearling

1-Mana | 1/2 | Last Breath | Yeti

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yetiyearling.jpg

"It was so tiny and peaceful! Hard to believe it would grow up to be... well... a yeti."
Avarosan Trapper

Baby yetis that sleep in ice caves. If a yearling is killed, two Enraged Yetis will be added to its players deck.

  • Cuddle Bug: It's snuggling with a poro as it sleeps.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Compared to the vicious appearance of its adult counterparts, the baby yeti is quite adorable.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: Its passive literally evokes killing a child in front of its parents, causing the latter to come after the killer for revenge.

    Rare

Ancient Yeti

7-Mana | 5/5 | Overwhelm

  • Monster in the Ice: It's partially trapped in a glacier with only its head able to move around. Every round, the cost of the card decreases by one, showing that the ice is slowly losing hold of the massive creature.

Avarosan Outriders

Heart of the Fluft (and Fluft of Poros)

Icy Yeti

Poro Herder

Voiced By: Mark Oliver
2-Mana | 2/3

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/poroherder.jpg
"Haha, oh fluff everywhere."

A herd needs just two things: love, and company. Anything else is just fluff.

A kindly man that tends to poros. When summoned, his player draws a poro if they behold another poro.

  • Balance Buff: It first was that he drew a poro if one was already in play. But this was changed to be a poro was beheld instead, allowing for more flexibility with his passive.
  • Cool Old Guy: An older gentlemen caring for the cute and fluffy poros.
  • Friend to All Living Things: He's nothing but loving and supporting to his poros, and his combat lines shows that he doesn't have a mean bone in him.
<blocking> "What have poros done to you?"
  • Nerf: His stats were all nerfed post-launch, originally being 3/4. His cost was lowered to compensate for the changes however.

Rimefang Wolf

3-Mana | 3/2 | Challenger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rimefangwolf.png

"Predators of the northern reaches have learned that the easiest prey are those already crippled by winter's bite."

A viscous predator of the northern Freljord. Rimefang wolves will instantly kill any unit with 0-power if they strike.

  • Combat Pragmatist: Rimefangs prey upon creatures who've fallen victim to the harsh elements of the icy Freljord. In-game, they're specifically designed to target units hit by frostbite, a Status Effect that saps away all attack power.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: A glowing, icy light emits from their eyes and adds to their otherworldly and dangerous nature.
  • One-Hit Kill: Regardless of their health, any unit with 0-power will die instantly if struck by a Rimefang.

Rimetusk Shaman

Scarmaiden Reaver

Starlit Seer

"Grant them keen ears to hear the wind's approach, light feet to cross the coming snows, and sharp eyes to see beyond the veil of winter."

An Avarosan seer who assists the tribe's travels by predicting the conditions of the seasons. While I'm play, every spell you cast grants the top ally in your deck +1 power and health.

  • Animal Motifs: Owls; he vaguely resembles one, keeps an owl as a pet, and speaks with hooting sounds that emulate the bird's call.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He's an oddball for sure. Speaking like an owl, contorting his head in odd directions, and speaking of stars constantly.
  • Seers: His precognitions help guide the Avarosans through the Freljord's harsh winters.

They Who Endure

7-mana | 1/1 | Overwhelm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/they_who_endure.png

"Ah, old Bjerg's been through a bit. Lost his crew up north, returned pale an' gibberin' months later. Now, it's just "giant beasts" this and "huge claws" that. That poor man..."
- Tavernkeeper

A pack of Balestriders roaming the north. When summoned, they gain +1/+1 for each ally that has died this game.

  • Magikarp Power: While they start out completely inconsequential, if you can rack up a lot of dead units, they become a hugely powerful threat later on.

    Epic

Avarosan Hearthguard

Scarmother Vrynna

6-Mana | 3/8 | Overwhelm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scarmothervrynna.jpg
"The Winter's Claw will purge the weak."

"I would die shivering in the cold before sharing a hearth with Ashe's weaklings. But if they desire warmth, I will give it to them."

A dedicated warrior of the Winter's Claw. Vrynna gains 3-power every time she survives taking damage.

  • Combat Sadomasochist: She gains power by taking damage in battle, as do her followers.
  • Magikarp Power: The more damage she survives, the stronger she'll get, making her into a terrifying offensive unit if allowed to be sustained for that long.
  • Social Darwinist: She adheres pretty hard to the Winter's Claw's Might Makes Right attitude, and absolutely hates the Avarosans because of it.
  • Worthy Opponent: While dismissive of Ashe and the Avarosans as a whole, she does at least hold respect for Tryndamere.

She Who Wanders

10-mana | 10/10 | Regeneration

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/she_who_wanders.png
Tryndamere: Balestriders. These are dark omens.

"I dug myself out from the rubble to find a scar seared into the land around me. Smoldering ash lay where my companions had stood, and in the distance a looming form moved on..."
- Bjerg the Wanderer

An enormous, powerful Balestrider prowling the far north. When played, it casts Balesight, which Obliterates all followers with 4 or less Power in play and in both players' hands.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Bale striders are huge, towering over their surroundings, and its artwork shows this very well.
  • Death Ray: Balesight's visual effect takes the form of a huge beam of light razing the field, annihilating weak units.
  • Implacable Man: With 10 health and Regeneration, it's extremely hard to kill She Who Wanders in a straight fight as it doesn't die in one hit against most units and can shrug off any damage it takes.

Tarkaz the Tribeless

5-Mana | 5/8

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tarkazthetribeless.png
"I came to fight!"

"Tarkaz fought harder and better than most. He took his defeat gracefully, I thought. Well, mostly..."
Tryndamere

A troll warrior aligned with Tryndamere and the Avarosans. When attacking, Tarkaz deals 1-damage to all battling units.

  • Bash Brothers: He and Tryndamere have a strong camaraderie with each other.
Tryndamere: "You always find a good fight, my friend."
Tarkaz: "If no find battle, make it!"
  • Blood Knight: He's always happy to be put into battle.
    <Attacking> "Now we have fun!"
  • Token Non-Human: Until the release of Trundle and several troll followers, Tarkaz was the sole troll unit in the game.
  • You No Take Candle: He speaks broken English that signifies his lack of familiarity with his human allies.

Ursine Spiritwalker (And Stormclaw Ursine)

5-mana | 4/6 | Plunder

"Let fury spill from the sky!"

The Ursine begin as humans, but give up the familiar trappings of their mortal lives for the feral, savage power granted by the great spirit of the Volibear.

A follower of Volibear who's given in to the god's savage ideals. His Plunder effect transforms him into the Stormclaw Ursine, a bear-like monstrosity.

Stormclaw Ursine
5-mana | 6/6 | Overwhelm

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stormclawursine.png
"The beast emerges!"

Fully unleashed, the Ursine shed their humanity and take on the power of the storm. They tear across the frozen steppes, their roars echoing like peals of thunder.

  • Body Horror: On closer inspection, the Stromclaw has two sets of teeth, one that's clearly bear teeth, and the other that's human teeth remaining from the transformation.
  • Nested Mouths: Notice that the Stormclaw Ursine has a human-looking mouth inside his bear mouth. Body Horror is a standard among Ursine, a tribe of shapeshifting Spirit Walkers who worship Volibear, as their shifted form is a grotesque mix of animals and beasts.
  • One-Winged Angel: He is normally a man wearing bear skins and middling stats for the cost, but if you play him with plunder effect activated, he becomes Stormclaw Ursine, half-man half-bear monster with increased attack and aura granting Overwhelm to your other units.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: He transforms into Stormclaw Ursine with hisPlunder keyword requirement, basically becoming a werebear.
  • Shock and Awe: Upon transforming, he can harness lightning like the great Volibear-sending his enemies flying with sheer force.

A flame-wielding Winter's Claw warrior. At the start of each round, she deals 1 damage to both Nexuses and all units in play.

  • Cast from Hit Points: Ember Maiden is not immune to her own damaging ability. Without any other support, she'll destroy herself in 2 rounds.
  • Pyromaniac: Her lines indicate that she loves setting things ablaze.
    "Destruction feeds my heart's fire!"

"Across the seas and into battle!"

"When Spring brings weather just warm enough for us to plant, it also brings longboats... and the grain that started plentiful grows sparse." - Avarosan Hearthguard

Sejuani's longboat, which ferries Winter's Claw warriors on raiding expeditions. When summoned, it draws a copy of Sejuani, and its Plunder effect doubles the Health and Power of all units in your deck.

  • Amazon Brigade: All of the warriors aboard it are female.
  • The Cavalry: Not only can make Sejuani easier to bring into play, but they also give a massive stat buff to all cards in your deck, making them a powerful late-game unit to have in hand.
  • Cool Boat: the longboat Sejuani rides on, doubles the power of allies in your deck if you trigger its Plunder effect-which Sejuani's faction is themed around, being savage northern raiders.

"Watch them run."

They felt it before they heard it, the ground trembling beneath their feet, but it quickly became audible, like distant thunder drawing closer.
Meyrick lifted his head, eyes wide, listening.
"What is it?" Anya whispered urgently, drawing her bow, but Meyrick was already sprinting back toward the path.
"RUN!"

An incredibly powerful and monstrous troll that directly serves his king.

  • The Dragon: Uzgar answers directly to Trundle, and is one of the Trolls' most deadly forces, being able to personally conquer villages and slay beasts on his lonesome.
  • Malevolent Masked Men: He dons a sharp iron mask that obscures the top half of his face.
  • Mighty Glacier: Uzgar is incredibly powerful and durable thanks to his stats, and Regeration means he can sustain himself through multiple rounds. The only way to keep him down is to kill him as fast as possible.
  • One-Man Army: His art has him singlehandedly devastate a hunting party.
  • Worthy Opponent: He recognizes Trundle as a clever and dangerous foe after the latter bested him in a one-on-one duel. He now fights in the Troll King's name as one of his deadliest warriors.

"Awake..."

Freed from its icy tomb, the corrupted troll knew one thing, and one thing only - it must do as its dark mistress commanded.

A troll brainwashed and frozen in ice to serve Lissandra as a warrior. Frostguard Thralls are not collectible, but instead summoned by the Frozen Thrall landmark after an 8-round Countdown.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: They're trolls brainwashed into single-mindedly serving Lissandra.
  • Elite Mooks: Despite being Lissandra's rank and file, they are much, much more powerful than most Followers or even Champions in the game.
  • Human Popsicle: Their initial form, the Frozen Thrall, represents them frozen solid.
  • I Die Free: When killed, they often say "Free..." in a tone of either surprise or relief.
  • Mighty Glacier: Their stats are immense and Overwhelm means they can threaten lots of Nexus damage, but it takes a good amount of setup and preparation over several rounds to put them into action.
  • Monster in the Ice: They're trolls transformed by Lissandra the Ice Witch into mind-controlled soldiers, which she then reserves inside blocks of ice for when they're needed. Instead of being summoned like regular units, Thralls are played as landmarks (Frozen Thralls), and every round a timer depletes to signal that the ice around them is thawing, allowing them to finally enter battle after eight rounds. Several cards can speed up this timer, including Countdown skills and the Draklorn Inquisitor who lets the thralls be summoned after only four rounds instead.

"My Lady calls to me, and I obey."

"My lady appears to me in dreams, her voice near a whisper. 'Follow,' she bids me. This command I dare not disobey."

A Frostguard warrior wholly devoted to Lissandra and her cause. When summoned, he summons a Frozen Thrall. At the end of each round, he instantly completes the Countdown of any Frozen Thralls you control that have 4 rounds or less left on theirs.

  • The Minion Master: Like Lissandra, they have the ability to spawn Frozen Thralls. Their passive also speeds up the time it takes for the landmark to fully countdown, spawning a Frostguard Thrall after 4 rounds instead of the regular 8.
  • Undying Loyalty: He serves Lissandra's orders without question, something she'll delightfully take advantage of.
Inquisitor: "Tell me how I may serve you, Lady."
    Lissandra: "Completely and without question."
