J-WITCH

The main protagonists of the story. Originally a Chinese-American family and their Japanese friend living in San Fransisco, they move to Heatherfield at the request of Uncle's old friend Yan Lin to help train the new generation of the Guardians.

    In General
  • Adaptational Badass: The Guardians, even without their powers, can still put up a decent fight now that they learned martial arts from the Chan Clan.
  • Adaptational Skill: The Guardians pick up Kung Fu from the Chan Clan.
  • Badass Crew: Both the Chan Clan and the Guardians are this by default.
  • Elemental Powers:
  • Expy: One can see the dynamic between a group of magical girls and martial artists as somewhat akin to the the Cardcaptors. Specifically, Jackie and the Chan Clan are the Syaoran Li to the Guardians' Sakura Kinomoto. As an added bonus, the Chan Clan don't start off as rivals to the Guardians, unlike Syaoran. In addition, the Chan Clan serve as mentors towards the Guardians, making them one to Kero as well.
  • Henshin Hero: The Guardians. They're also the first-ever heroes of this variant written in an Iron117Prime fic.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: As the series progresses, the Guardians slowly grow into learning practical martial arts as part of their mentorship with the Chan Clan.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: The Guardians are people navigating their way of life while also fighting evil with an extensive array of element-based superpowers. Also a first for an Iron117Prime fanfic.
  • Multinational Team: Let's see, Jackie, Jade, Uncle, and Hay Lin are Chinese, Tohru is Japanese, Irma is Latina, Cornelia is Caucasian, and Taranee is African-American.
  • Power Crystal: The team relies on the Heart of Kandrakar, a crystalline artifact the The Leader Will possesses.
  • Power Gives You Wings: The Guardians more or less have the ability to fly in addition to their normal powers. This doesn't make the Chan Clan lag behind despite being land-based though.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: As with canon, the Guardians have to juggle around their personal lives with their newfound powers. Even Jade, who isn't generally part of the Guardians at first still has to deal with this. Averted with Jackie, Uncle, and Tohru, as they are no longer school students.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: In "Weight of the Burden", Will and Jade manage to combine their powers.

    Jackie Chan
An archaeologist from San Fransisco whose search for - in order - talismans, demon portals, and oni masks. Though he's quite likely the only archaeologist on the planet up to this job, he'd rather be on a dig or minding his Uncle's antique shop.
  • Badass Pacifist: Jackie doesn't like fighting and would rather talk things through, but if you give him no choice then he will show why he's a kung-fu master.
  • Does Not Like Magic: Jackie has admitted he doesn't like magic, seeing it as unpredictable and dangerous, and the most he uses are the Talismans.

    Jade Chan
Jackie's niece (technically his first cousin once removed) who is always joining his adventures, much to Jackie's annoyance.
  • Action Duo: With Will, especially since it's later revealed that they're Spirit Sisters, a special bond between two people with strong bonds.
  • Adaptational Badass: After being cured of her second stint as the Queen by Will using the Heart, this creates a sixth Auremere that's bound to her. The next chapter confirms that it made her a Guardian, giving her Casting a Shadow powers in the process. She wasnā€™t as thrilled about this as one would expect.
  • Adaptational Karma: Downplayed, in that she receives several of Uncle's Dope Slaps when she does something stupid, unlike canon.
  • Anti-Magic: Her expanded powers after the lowering of the Veil let her absorb and negate magic, which allows her permanently destroy the Annihilators.
  • Casting a Shadow: Gets Shadow-based powers when she becomes the Sixth Guardian after Will uses the Heart of Kandrakar to restore her back to normal during her second stint as Queen of Shadowkhan. After the Veil is lowered her powers start growing, starting with being able to nullify sources of light near her.
  • The Chosen One: "Facades of Evil" all but confirms that she's the Ben Shui chosen one.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: As seen in Casting a Shadow above, she eventually gains Shadow-based magic, but given that she gains such power after becoming the Sixth Guardian, she is on the side of good.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: She was already pretty badass with just her inherent skills and occasional Talisman use, but then she becomes a Guardian with Casting a Shadow powers.
  • Genre Savvy: She often uses the knowledge gained from movies, comics, and TV shows. Sometimes she's Wrong Genre Savvy.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: After the Mark of Tarakudo turned her evil (before it was finally removed), she claims the title of Queen of the Shadowkhan.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Denies that she's interested in Paco, despite there clearly being something there.
  • Man of Kryptonite: Nerissa outright calls Jade her "natural enemy" in "The Uncertain Present", as even with the Heart of Meridian boosting her powers the younger Guardian of Shadows is able to use her Anti-Magic to overpower and restrain her.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Jade gets a growth spurt as a result of gaining her Guardian powers, rendering her roughly the same height as the other Guardians.
  • Purple Is the New Black: Her Guardian form has a notable amount of purple to it, which compliments her Shadow Powers.
  • The Power of the Void: After the Veil is lowered, she tries to counter Raythor's fire blast with a shadow wall, only for it to be absorbed by the wall like a mini-black hole. It's later revealed that she can also absorb and negate magic.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Jade gains these in conjunction with eerie pale skin and Power Echoes as the Queen of the Shadowkhan.
  • Sixth Ranger: Quickly integrates herself with the WITCH girls and helps her in her missions, even if she isn't a Guardian. Becomes a more traditional example of this trope when she becomes the Sixth Guardian with Shadow powers after Will uses the Heart of Kandrakar to purify her of Tarakudo's influence.
  • The Team Normal: Unlike the WITCH girls, she has no powers, and she sometimes has to rely on the Talismans to get on their level. Subverted in the second half after becoming the Sixth Guardian, giving her access to the same Flight and minor Super-Strength the rest of the WITCH girls have, plus Shadow magic as her unique power; later on, Alchemy takes this role.

    Uncle Chan
Jackie's uncle and Jade's great-uncle. He runs an antique shop and is also an expert wizard of chi magic. He's actually the cousin of (one of) her parents... they think. He has a history with the previous guardians, Yan Lin in particular.
  • Funny Foreigner: Is far more estranged to some of the customs of Heatherfield, though Yan Lin usually serves as a way for him to go with the flow.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Yes, he's rather cranky and prone to using his signature two-finger Dope Slap.
  • Honorary Uncle: He's everyone's uncle. Really.
  • Named by the Adaptation: His real name is never revealed in JCA canon. Here, his real name is revealed to be "Jin".
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Mung beans and garlic. They're good for digestion, you know.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The fact that the Guardians are teenage girls does nothing to prevent him from giving them his signature Dope Slap whenever they screw up or just get on his nerves. Cornelia serves as his most frequent target.

    Tohru
A Japanese sumo wrestler who was once a Dark Hand enforcer, but he defects to the Chans. He works for Uncle at his antique shop, and becomes his apprentice in chi magic.
  • The Big Guy: Is the heavy arms of the team, and usually does battle with Cedric, a larger shapeshifter who can transform into a snake, due to the latter's size.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: Do you think he was born with those muscles? All that strength came from hard work.
  • Gentle Giant: Since this is post-Heelā€“Face Turn Tohru, he's huge but also a big softie who never doubts to defend his friends.
  • Momma's Boy: He's very close to his mother.

    Will Vandom
The Quintessence Guardian. She holds the Heart of Kandrakar, which gives the other girls the power to transform into their guardian forms.

    Irma Lair
The Water Guardian. Known for being the class clown at her school, she and Cornelia have a long-standing rivalry. She is close friends with Hay Lin.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Whereas the production team for the cartoon said that Irma is a lesbian, here, she is noted to be bisexual, having an interest in Martin.
  • Combination Attack: Irma and Hay Lin usually combine their powers during fights, either to create power or boost the punch of the attack.
  • Hidden Depths: Has actually read a fair number of comic books, enough to use that to reach Martin when he's possessed by the Earth Demon Chi.
  • Making a Splash: Befitting of the Guardian of Water.
  • Miss Swears-a-Lot: Downplayed, in that while she doesn't swear often, she's the most likely to do so compared to the rest of the cast.

    Taranee Cook
The Fire Guardian, Taranee's hobbies include dancing, math, and photography. She later starts liking Nigel, a former delinquent.
  • The B Grade: Taranee gets stressed over receiving an F in her essay despite turning it in earlier than the class. The teacher manages to find it however and promptly regrades her, telling her that the essay is indeed turned in.
  • Legacy Character: Is this to Halinor, the previous Fire Guardian.
  • Tornado Move: Though she's the Guardian of Fire, she mostly combines her abilities with Hay Lin to create this. It's one of the most prominent combo attacks in the series.

    Cornelia Hale
The Earth Guardian, Cornelia is from a wealthy family and is easily one of the most popular girls at school. She enjoys figure skating.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's pretty standoffish and can be a bit too sassy at times, even towards Jade and Uncle, although she does have the capacity for friendship and deeply cares for those she has.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: After her brief stint of leaving the Guardians, she later on learns that she might've been too rough with regards to her decision and rejoins the team. Her personality still stuck around however.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Even more so than with Irma, Cornelia and Jade have this type of relationship due to Cornelia's initial reluctance to being a Guardian, plus her vanity makes her clash with Jade's tomboyishness.

    Hay Lin
The Air Guardian, Hay Lin is a bit of an airhead. She enjoys art and comic books. Her family manages the Silver Dragon restaurant. She falls in love with Eric Lyndon.
  • Asian Airhead: She's Chinese and tends to be spacey and prone to miss things. Fitting for the Air Guardian.
  • Elemental Personalities: Her personality fits her powerset the most, being free-spirited, positive and somewhat spacey.
  • Legacy Character: Takes up her grandmother's position as a Guardian.
  • The Lightfooted: Has a more graceful fighting style than the other Guardians due to her element of the wind.

Section 13 / J-Team / Other Allies

     Captain Augustus Black
One of Jackie's longtime friends and the leader of Section 13. Is more or less aware of the existence of magical powers and aides both the Chan Clan and the Guardians whenever he can.
  • Hero Secret Service: Serves as a primary ally to the J-WITCH team in terms of covering tracks. Most notably, it helped out when Medina and McTiennan were investigating the girls and he showed his badge to them, realizing that they are interfering with government-affiliated authorities.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Is willing to use his influence as head of Section 13 to help Jackie and the Guardians, even moving the organization to Heatherfield so he can do so better.
  • The Team Benefactor: He and Section 13 not only aid in battling the forces of evil, but also cover up for any minor setbacks posed during their battles.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives Medina and McTiennan a well-deserved chewing out for how they were so heavy-handed with the girls when investigating Elyon's disappearance despite having minimal evidence that they were involved at all.

     El Toro Fuerte
A Mexican wrestler who occasionally help the Chan Clan out in certain missions.

     Viper
A former thief who serves Section 13 as a consultant and also offers assistance to the Chan Clan from time to time.

     Paco
A fanboy of El Toro who is also being mentored by him in terms of wrestling.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Is a young child who merely adores his favorite luchador El Toro, but can pretty much dish it out just like him, especially when given a Talisman.

     Caleb
The leader of the Rebellion against Prince Phobos who's also Cornelia's love interest and boyfriend.
  • Badass Normal: He has no powers but is nonetheless a fearless and skilled rebel leader.
  • Funny Foreigner: Is initally estranged from Earth customs and other things he might not find natural in Meridian, though he does adjusts to them over time.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: While in Japan, Caleb takes a katana and decides he likes it enough to make it his signature weapon.
  • Like a Duck Takes to Water: Slowly orients himself to Earth's customs and traditions over time, even gaining an Earthly katana-based fighting style.
  • Recurring Element: Is the leader of some resistance against a greater evil and also a proficient katana expert.

     Yan Lin
The previous Guardian of the Air and Hay Lin's grandmother. She's an old flame of Uncle Chan, and she's the one responsible for summoning the Chan Clan to Heatherfield to help mentor the next generation of Guardians.
  • Amicable Exes: She and Uncle might be no longer dating, but they're still good friends who work well together.
  • First-Name Basis: She's one of the few who calls Uncle by his first name, Jin.

     Blunk
A member of the goblin-like passling race who's a smuggler by trade, but proves to be a valuable asset in the battle against evil.
  • Adaptational Badass: In "Stolen Heart and Mask" he reveals that he's been learning kung-fu on his own by watching the girls train, and uses it to fight off Jeek.
  • Adaptational Seriousness: Downplayed as he still maintains his comedic streak, but the fic gives him more opportunities to be useful to the heroes this time around.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Gets hit with an Oni Mask to the face, causing him to grow monstrous thanks to both the Oni's influence as well as Tarakudo's. In particular, the mask feeds off his innate greed, to the point of being ordered to steal the Heart of Kandrakar. The heroes do manage to get the mask off and he promptly apologizes.

     Elyon Brown
Cornelia's best friend who is secretly the lost princess and rightful heir of Meridian.

Midway through the series, she decided to join the antagonists into Meridian, believing that her (adoptive) parents had lied to her about everything in her life. However, she has no realization that she's being manipulated by everyone around her regarding this matter.

  • Barrier Maiden: Her powers are the key to Meridian's power, which is why Phobos, seeking more power to advance his goals, puts her on his priorities.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: The heroes manage to figure out that she's the missing heir earlier than in canon, but delay telling her while they debate over the best way to handle it. Unfortunately, this lets Phobos get to her first.
  • Morality Pet: The Enforcers are assigned to be her bodyguards while in Wong's service, and they quickly come to like her to the point of pulling a Heelā€“Face Turn and going to Jackie to help in keeping her safe.

     Alchemy
A friend of the girls who is initially ignorant of the events surrounding the Guardians, but later joins them when they first transform in front of her and then continues her service towards helping them.
  • The Apprentice: Becomes Tohru's apprentice in chi-magic.
  • Decomposite Character: Some of the things that happen to her after being exposed to magic, like wearing half an Oni mask or getting the Wind Demon chi, are stuff that Jade went through in canon, but doesn't here due to becoming the Shadow Guardian.
  • Expy: In relation to the WITCH girls, once she's in the loop, she's become the aide to them akin to Miku Kohinata.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is Alchemy and she becomes Tohru's apprentice when it comes to Chi-Magic, and by season 2 she's even gotten some ideas that impress Uncle, like using multiple smaller spells to replicate larger ones in a pinch.
  • Sixth Ranger: She joins the group after being exposed to magic.

     Matthew Olsen
Will's love interest and a singer in his own band. Later on joins the main cast in Season 2 as a prominent ally after witnessing Will's transformation.

     Scruffy
Team J-WITCH's pet dog.

The Dark Hand

A criminal organization formerly based in San Francisco who entered Heatherfield in order to get back on the Chan Clan for their misfortunes. Their involvement with magical forces ends up getting the best of them in the long run.
     Valmont
A formerly wealthy British boss of the crime syndicate who sought to try and regain his former glory, but ended up involved in the scuffles of the Guardians, which causes him to lose his Enforcers.
  • Blackmail Backfire: He tries to force the Guardians, Jackie, and Tohru into working for him with pictures he's taken of the Guardian forms of the girls, only for Yan Lin to help him realize he has nowhere near as well of a position as he thought he did, namely because he put himself within reach of being attacked by several Badass Normal martial artists and a Magical Girl Warrior team. He promptly gives up the photos, walks out of the room, and books it.
  • Jaded Washout: Used to be a top-tier crime lord leading a tough crime syndicate, until consistent battles with the Chan Clan have drained his wealth and now tries to gain whatever scraps he may work with. The last time he's ever attempted another big adventure was his squabble with the Ice Gang, but it too was foiled by the Chan Clan and the Guardians. He's later seen trying to buy off an expensive, yet evil Oni mask which later possesses him to do far more evil things until the heroes take it off.
  • Recurring Element: Despite losing much of his wealth, he's no slouch in combat, and remains a rather formidable foe whenever he crosses paths with J-WITCH. This makes him a male variant of the high-ranking, hard-to-beat-in-canon antagonist who's defeated swiftly by the new heroes. He doesn't exactly undergo a Heelā€“Face Turn, but the rest of his former Enforcers do (they were in community service by the latter part of the season; they're Elyon's Praetorian Guard here).

     The Enforcers in general
  • Good Feels Good: They genuinely seem to enjoy serving a better cause than what Valmont or Daolon Wong ever put them through.
  • Praetorian Guard: Once they're cleared of Daolon Wong's brainwashing, they serve as this to Elyon.
  • Recurring Element: Most Iron117Prime Noble Demon characters would immediately join the heroes' side once it's clear the Crossover Villain-in-Chief takes the helm. They don't exactly have a strict code of honor, but nevertheless, they immediately jump ship to the heroes' side upon being freed of their defection. It's a bit better than the community service they were thrust in in the original though. In addition, not everyone in the Enforcers defects; Hak Foo is imprisoned at first, then released by Nerissa to join the Knights of Vengeance.

     Finn
The leader of the trio of the Enforcers. Formerly a singer before taking up a life of crime.

     Chow
A silent and more focused member of the trio who was a former star employee.

     Ratso
A thug in a formal suit who serves as the team's strongman.

Sheffield Institute

The school where the Guardians, and later Jade, go to.

     Ms. Knickerbocker
The school principal.

The Council of Kandrakar

The leading council of Kandrakar, where the Guardians' powers originated.
     The Oracle
The council's leader.

     Halinor
The former Guardian of Fire who now serves the council.

Phobos' forces

     Prince Phobos
The evil prince of Meridian and Elyon's older brother who usurped the throne and turned it into a tyrannical rule under his name. He enlists the services of sorcerer Daolon Wong, unknowingly scheming to steal his sister's power for himself.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Downplayed. He's not responsible for the death of his parents; rather, he was framed for it. This didn't stop him from taking advantage of their deaths to claim the throne for himself. Not to mention he's a bit nicer to Elyon in this iteration.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: This iteration really does love Elyon, seeing her true value as the last living relative of his family. He stated that once he gains her power, she can return to Earth as a normal teenager again.
  • Bad Boss: Often times punishes his servants for his misdeeds. Him doing this is seen by his advsiors as a sign of embracing his inner darkness.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • Unlike other antagonists in Iron117Prime fanfics who share his role and position, he manages to survive through the midpoint, albeit de-powered. The one that actually dies is his second-in-command Cedric.
  • The Evil Prince: He's a wannabe tyrant and prince who usurped his sister's rightful rule in the aftermath of the death of their parents.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: He might not have killed his parents like in the original series, but he still took advantage of their murders to usurp his newborn sister's rightful place as heir.
  • Recurring Element: Phobos is the lesser of the two villains (with Daolon Wong) who is defeated at the end of the story by the Eviler than Thou villain in an Iron117Prime fanfic, though unlike Hans, Gothel, Ozai, and Charles, he makes it to the end of the story alive, albeit de-powered.
  • Starter Villain: The first major antagonist faced by the J-WITCH team, sharing the role alongside Cedric and Daolon Wong.
    • Starter Villain Stays: Though he may be de-powered, he still has a decent enough influence in the plot, like causing a dilemma within Elyon over whether or not she should kill him. It's also a stark contrast to others like him who died by the bigger villain's hands.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He might have a lot of magical power (albeit nowhere as much when compared to his sister), but as Uncle noted, not enough finesse.

     Daolon Wong
An ancient Chinese Dark Chi wizard seeking to obtain Phobos' and Meridian's power for himself, and thus serves as his advisor and sage. It's later revealed that he's secretly working to resurrect his true master Shendu.
  • Co-Dragons: Alongside Cedric.
  • Crossover Villain-in-Chief: For most of the story, serving as a servant to Shendu, though he takes up this role due to the level of prominence he has in the story. Shendu later comes along and snags that title from him, taking over the story for the finale.
  • Evil Counterpart: Serves as one to Uncle, just like in canon.
  • Evil Old Folks: He's even older than uncle and certainly evil.
  • Evil Sorcerer: He's a pretty clear cut case, and even the Enforcers compare him to Darth Sidious.
  • Eviler than Thou:
  • The Starscream: Is attempting to overthrow Phobos while maintaining his cover as his advisor. He seeks to use the time that Phobos attempts to gain Elyon's powers to sabotage the ceremony and claim those powers for himself.
  • Treacherous Advisor: A variant of this in that he already serves an antagonist in Phobos, but still hides an agenda beneath his "wise" exterior: the resurrection of his master Shendu. He succeeds in this regard, bringing his old master to life, although said master turns on him and supposedly leaves him for dead.

     Cedric
Phobos' second in command with the ability to transform into a gigantic snake-man.
  • Death by Adaptation: Cedric survives into season 2 of the original cartoon, but here he's burned to death by Shendu at the finale of Season 1.
  • Master of Disguise: Takes up the guise of "Rick Hoffman" and runs a bookstore in an attempt to get Elyon into their side. Unfortunately for him, the heroes manage to debunk his disguise and is forced to hasten his plan, which still manages to work. And in true Iron117Prime fashion, he plays a crucial role in the plot by successfully bringing in Elyon to their clutches, signalling the beginning of the story's second half.
  • Recurring Element: A Master of Disguise character who serves a key role in the story. He's The Dragon, yes, and the instigator of the story's game-changing midpoint.
  • Snake People: Cedric's other form is that of a massive snake person.
  • The Starscream: When Phobos tells him, that he has no intention of killing Elyon once he has stolen her magic, Cedric's thoughts reveal that he thinks Phobos is too soft and that like Daolon Wong, he's planning to usurp Phobos when the time is right.

     Tarakudo
The king of the Shadowkhan and lord of the Oni, longing to release his nine Oni Generals and their Shadowkhan armies to rule both Meridian and Earth. Much like Wong, he acts as an advisor to Phobos and once again encourages him to turn to the darkness entirely.
  • Affably Evil: Oh yes, Tarakudo is an evil ruler of Oni and the Shadowkhan, but he's still surprisingly polite and known to keep to his promises.
  • Evil Mentor: He's genuinely fond of Phobos and wants to make him embrace his full darkness completely.
  • Eviler than Thou: When it becomes clear to Phobos that Tarakudo's plan to make Jade the Queen of the Shadowkhan again only resulted in her becoming the Guardian of Shadows, he threatens to end his Villain Team-Up with the Oni King. Tarakudo responds by restraining the prince with his telekinetic powers and tells him in a calm tone that while he intends to keep his end of their bargain, he won't tolerate such a tone from Phobos in the future, or there will be unspeakable horrors in store for the latter. Fearful for one of the few times in his life, Phobos relents.
  • Expy: Acting as a corruptor of the heroes' allies who unknowingly stumble upon "masks" that feed on their inner darkness, thereby encouraging their worst behavior, he's pretty much a non-Big Bad Hawk Moth.
  • A Father to His Men: In a strange way yes, as Tarakudo reveals to Cedric and Wong that his relationship with his nine generals was one of mutual respect, and despite occasional disagreements, the generals still have Undying Loyalty towards him.
  • Honest Advisor: Strangely enough, yes. Unlike Cedric and Wong, Tarakudo is usually the one who gives Phobos the more honest advice and who proposes plans who are for their mutual benefit.
  • They Just Dont Get It: It doesn't matter how many times he's rejected, Tarakudo never stops trying to bring Jade to his side.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Tarakudo forms a close partnership with Phobos as a personal advisor, despite having desires to usurp him. However, what he's more concerned with at the time is amplifying Phobos' worst qualities, a role he shares with Daolon Wong.

     Miranda
One of Elyon's new companions who's deeply related to Cedric as his lover. She's also a shapeshifter, able to transform into a spider-like creature.
  • Actor Allusion: Miranda is voiced by Grey DeLisle, who played Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender as a midpoint-debuting villain who turns the tides for the heroes even further. She too does the same, especially concerning her manipulation of Elyon.
  • Creepy Child: Serves to be her base human form, taking up a girl who's the same age as the Guardians.
  • Playing with Fire: After Drago takes back his chi from the other Knights following the dissolution of the group, he imbues her spider form with it.
  • Recurring Element: Another spider-like villainess in an Iron117Prime work of fanfiction.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's the only female amongst Phobos' main forces. And in Season 2 she's the only girl among the Knights of Vengeance.

Nerissa's Forces

     Nerissa
A mysterious old sage who forms the Knights of Vengeance in order to take down the heroes. Serves as the main antagonist of Season 2.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Her sexuality was defined in the show, but in the fic, she's romantically linked with Cassidy from her former team. Unfortunately, just like in canon, she accidentally kills her.
  • The Chessmaster: Masterfully manipulates both the heroes and the villains for her plans.
  • Crossover Villain-in-Chief: Flipping the source franchise for its Big Bad, she assumes this position after Daolon Wong and Shendu are defeated.
  • The Ghost: Is mentioned a few times by Uncle, Yan Lin, and the Council of Kandrakar, though never appears in the first season. The second season gives her the opportunity to firmly appear and take up the Big Bad position.
  • Hero's Evil Predecessor: Was the former Guardian of Quintessence before her desire for power ended up turning her to the dark side.
  • Evil Former Friend: Aside from canonically being one to the Guardians, later scenes show that she had a rather deep friendship with Uncle, given that he's worked with the older Guardians in the past.
  • Evil Matriarch: Is firmly an antagonist and is the mother of Drago.
  • Evil Old Folks: Poses as an elderly sage and manages to stir up trouble for the heroes.
  • Express Delivery: She gave birth to Drago after a rather short time.
  • Kick the Dog: In "Return", not only does she show Elyon a false image of Phobos killing their parents in an attempt to protect his sister, but callously reveals that she was the one who did so, and that she was manipulating both him and her from the start, topping it off by stealing her power.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Poises a far darker influence and the overall threat to the main plot, deliberately using most of the Guardians' personal lives to harm them as much as she can. She shares this role with her son Drago.
  • Squishy Wizard: While Uncle is a similar age to her but manages to be a skilled Kung-Fu Wizard regardless, Nerissa is in far worse shape, and even with the Heart of Meridian behind her, Jade and her Anti-Magic abilities are able to overpower her relatively easily as a result.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: In "What's More Dangerous", after learning about her new Anti-Magic powers, Nerissa takes an interest in Jade.
  • Villainous Mother-Son Duo: With Drago, her son with Shendu.
  • Xanatos Gambit: The search for the Demon Chi is this for her. If the Knights actually manage to obtain it, good for them, but it's not a crucial component of her plans and she's mainly trying to distract the heroes and keep it from being an x-factor for what she's really got cooking. Even Uncle containing the Demon Chi is something she's planning to take advantage of.

Knights of Vengeance

     Drago
  • Adaptational Badass: He was already pretty dangerous on his own, and here he has also inherited the power of Quintessence from Nerissa, even if his power is not as great as hers or even Will's.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: By all accounts, he genuinely loves his mother Nerissa, and they work together quite well in their schemes. When she's flung from the dream-space and thrown across the room in "Nightmares and Daydreams", he immediately rushes to her side once he wakes up himself.
  • Genius Bruiser: Is not only a powerful fire demon capable of matching the Guardians on combat, but is also a brilliant strategist, acting as The Leader of the Knights of Vengeance and coming up with several strategies against the Guardians and their allies. He makes sure to learn from his mistakes as well, having OutGambited their second attempt to fool him.
  • Knight of Cerebus: His arrival sets the story in motion for a darker tone, being the offspring of Shendu who is just as strong as him.
  • It Runs in the Family: Just like his father Shendu and his mother Nerissa, Drago not just is a very skilled combatant but he's quite cunning and knows how to get in people's heads with his words alone.
  • The Necromancer: In "A Demon's Wings in the Witches' Town", he takes advantage of the presence of the Sky Demon Chi to summon the restless spirits of the victims of the Salem Witch Trials to attack the heroes.
  • Never Found the Body: "Shadows of the Past" reveals that he fell, seemingly to his death, as a child, only to track down his mother's prison and free her years later.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: When he realizes that Jade can negate the magic that animates his Annihilators in "What's More Dangerous", he wastes no time in attacking her and separating her from the others once she returns to Meridian to keep her from doing so to the others.
  • Second Love: It's hinted that after Cedric's death, Miranda is starting to develop a crush on him despite being the descendant of her former lover's killer.

     Raythor
A commander of Phobos' forces with a good code of honor despite his allegiance.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Not himself exactly, but his more honorable characterization and his Undying Loyalty towards Phobos, who are demonstrated on his very first appearance.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Was a skilled swordsman and tactician during his time under Phobos, and only loses to Drago in the Knights battle to decide their leader. Then Drago gives him some of his fire demon chi, granting him a more lizard-like appearance and Playing with Fire powers.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Is a Noble Demon who served under a tyrant and is now a part of the Knights of Vengeance in order to avenge said tyrant. However he does so out of a genuine sense of loyalty, and is disgusted the Ice Crew want to join out of a desire for material compensation rather than any sense of justice.
    • Later, he expresses distaste with the idea of summoning the restless spirits of the Salem Witch Trial victims to attack the heroes, and Drago only manages to convince him to reluctantly allow it on the grounds that they would want vengeance for their deaths, just like how the Knights are seeking their own vengeance, and by attacking the heroes they might satisfy their desire for revenge.
  • Gravity Master: Briefly gains Tso Lan's powers.
  • Master Swordsman: His skills prove sufficient to best all the other Knights of Vengeance (barring Drago himself) with nothing but skill and a good blade.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Ice wants to attack Heatherfield, Raythor's objection is partially because the Knights lack the numbers and power for a siege.
  • Recurring Element: The standard Iron117Prime Noble Demon character with a code of honor, like Karai, Vergil, and Dreadwing.
  • Shout-Out: After obtaining Tso Lan's demon chi, his fight with Cornelia and Caleb has him condense massive chunks of rock into four swords, which he wields in his four arms, similar to Dante's fight against Asta and Yami.

     Frost the Hunter
An ogre-like hunter serving Phobos.
  • Decomposite Character: Ends up taking Chow's place as the one who ends up with the Ninja Shadowkhan mask.
    • He's also the one to get draconic strength from Drago.
  • Green Around the Gills: Turns out he suffers from motion sickness while on an airplane.

     Hak Foo
A martial artist seeking to prove his strength, formerly a freelancer before signing up with the Dark Hand.

Is recruited and empowered by Nerissa to join her forces along with the Knights of Vengeance by Season 2.

  • Calling Your Attacks: Prominently calls out the names of his attacks, such as "ANGRY CROW TAKES FLIGHT!" or "BLACK TIGER SCRAPES GUM OFF SHOE!". Prior to becoming both a Dark Chi warrior and a Knight of Vengeance, he tends to use animals when referring to himself, but he shifts to more mythological and aggressive creatures once he does.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Subverted, in that while his other three Enforcers gleefully join the heroes and serve as Elyon's protectorates, Hak Foo still takes the chance to become evil again from Nerissa.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Played With. He was transformed into a Dark Chi Warrior near the end of Season 1, but loses his power as it ends. It's more or less played straight when Nerissa gives him the oppurtunity to take on the J-WITCH team once more and takes it up, once again transforming him into a monster.

     The Tracker

     Sandpit

     Gargoyle

    The Ice Crew
A trio of thuggish martial artists that act as mercenaries for hire.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Strikemaster Ice keeps hitting on Will, to her annoyance.
  • Badass Normal:
    • Despite lacking any powers, are capable of holding their own against the Guardians in a fight through skill in martial arts.
    • They later prove capable of giving the Knights of Vengeance a good fight, despite the disadvantage in numbers and powers.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: As part of their desire for compensation for joining the Knights of Vengeance, Nerissa gives each of them powers, including a steel body for DJ Fist, turning MC Cobra into a Living Lava man, and Strikemaster Ice An Ice Person powers. They are all please at the results.
  • Hidden Depths: MC Cobra says that Harrison Ford is his favourite actor, having seem many of his movies.
  • Mook Carryover: They work for Valmont for a couple of chapters in Season 1, but eventually quit when he can't pay them anymore. In Season 2, they join up with the Knights of Vengeance.
  • Recurring Element: Strikemaster Ice is a super-powered character with ice powers, a staple of almost every Iron117Prime fanfic.

Other Characters

     Uriah

     Shendu
A fiery dragon-like demon who was defeated with the power of the Heart of Kandrakar many years ago. His magic powers were sealed in the 12 Talismans which J-WITCH uses from time to time.

He's the true master that Daolon Wong serves, and is actively seeking out the power of Meridian to resurrect him. Once that's done however, he turns on Wong, Phobos, and the many villains, regains the power of the Talismans, and becomes the Final Boss of the first season.

  • Complete Immortality: With the power of the Dog and Horse Talisman, he's impossible to genuinely kill. The best the heroes can do is seal him again in a stone statue through a magic spell, but even then, he can still communicate with the rest of the cast.
  • Crossover Villain-in-Chief: Is Wong's true master and the one he's working to get Meridian's power for. He was defeated long ago with the power of the Heart of Kandrakar, but would later be revived once more. Once he's revived, he snags this title from Wong and Phobos and becomes the ultimate villain of the series. However, his tenure is also relatively short, lasting the finale until he's resealed again. He still makes speaking sppearances from time-to-time though, notably talking to Elyon about how she should've sentenced Phobos to death rather than leave him imprisoned.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He's the very last antagonist faced during Season 1, and he gives the Guardians and Jackie their toughest fight so far.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: For most of season 1 his ghost is trapped in the Netherworld, but his actions and the fear he inflicted upon Earth are still felt. Daolon Wong is revealed to serve him, and he takes over as Big Bad for the final battle.
    • Though he's sealed back again after the battle, he's still technically alive and makes appearances throughout Season 2. He's first seen here communicating with Elyon regarding Phobos' status, and after she leaves, he wonders what the future has in store since Drago returned.
  • Villain Team-Up: He returns, working with Nerissa and Drago, in Season 2.
