     Season 1
  • Raythor has known Phobos since the latter was a boy, and he was the only one who believed the prince to be innocent of his parents' murder. When the heroes frame him as a traitor, he's last shown desperately crying out Phobos' name as the Dark Chi Warriors take him to be thrown into the Abyss of Shadows. The "betrayal" of his captain of the guard — whom he trusted to the point of nearly considering him a friend — angers Phobos so much that he decides to take to heart Daolon Wong's advice that he cannot trust anyone.
  • Will tells Jade that her old "friends" threw her a surprise party where they told everyone about her secret crush, making her a laughing stock even to said crush. This betrayal of trust was the reason she was so averse to having a birthday party.
  • In "Happy Birthday Will", Yan Lin tells Jackie that what befell Cassidy and Nerissa changed the rest of the previous Guardians, with even Jin/Uncle becoming much more serious. The group eventually went their separate ways to deal with their sorrow in their own way; Yan Lin retired and broke up with Jin who started training under Chi Master Fong, Halinor joined the Council of Kandrakar, and Kadma went to Zamballa. Yan Lin then tells that she wishes for Jackie to ensure that the new Guardians won't be corrupted by power (like Nerissa was).
  • When Jade and four of the Guardians get to better see in "The Labyrinth" how Meridian's people are suffering under Phobos' tyranny, Jade remembers the rewritten reality where the Demon Sorcerers ruled the Earth and laments how the suffering of Meridian's folks cannot be erased from existence like was done with the humans enslaved by the Demon Sorcerers.
  • Will blames herself for the heroes' failure to prevent Phobos from getting Elyon, which led to Cornelia quitting the team. She ends up crying against Jackie's shoulder.
  • "Enter The Oni" reveals that Phobos really didn't kill his parents, and that his dictatorship isn't For the Evulz but primarily (negative influences from Cedric and Wong aside) just an attempt to maintain order in Meridian despite the Frame-Up turning people against him.
  • "Return of the Queen" has Jade revert to being the Queen thanks to Tarakudo, with her family and friends worried sick about her. Then, after she’s cured, she feels guilty for everything they went through for her before they snap her out of it.
  • "Ghosts and Shadows" has Jade, after what happened with the Queen and gaining her Casting a Shadow powers, wonder if she's not a good person deep down.
  • In "The Precious Mask", Scruffy is introduced with an injured leg.
  • In "Gladiatorial Clash", the heroes discover that Elyon has been tricked into thinking that the Heart is a One Ring-styled Artifact of Doom, and that they're the villains.
  • In "The Underwater Mines", after Phobos tricks Elyon into opening the underwater portal and tells her that she stopped a storm, she becomes frightened at the implications of such power. What makes it worse is Phobos reassuring her, when we know his true goals.
  • In "The Demon Behind", when Uncle is beating himself up over Tohru being taken, Yan Lin brings up the other previous Guardians, including Nerissa. Uncle also seems particularly saddened at the thought of Kadma.
  • In "Fright Night Fight", Elyon is bummed out since she's missing her friends, remembering her last Halloween with Cornelia and Alchemy. The Enforcers do their best to cheer her up, but feel dreadfully guilty about lying to her.
  • In "The Seal of Phobos", Phobos continues to further the lie that the Guardians are brainwashed, devastating Elyon when he suggests that he might have to use more drastic measures to deal with them soon.
  • In "A Challenge For Leadership", Elyon convinces Phobos to try and settle things with the rebels peacefully after she inadvertently mentally influences Aldarn in the process, but Wong and Cedric manipulate things, thanks to Tarakudo's urging, so that it falls through and looks like a trap. In fact, Phobos does entertain the thought of letting Elyon assume the throne, and in the process revealing his true nature to her and escaping from Meridian, if it means the destructive war can finally end. He afterwards finds it depressing to having to stick to his original plan and steal her powers.
  • In "The Shadow Eaters" Hay Lin starts to blame herself for losing the Hana Fuda card they needed after Tohru falls victim to the Mini-Khan. Luckily Jade manages to set her straight.
  • In "The Battle for Meridian Plains", not only did over two hundred rebels die in the fight, and Section 13 coming to aid them means that they are captured as well, Black being captured covering the retreat of the heroes.
  • In "Not So Black and White", Jade is horrified when she inadvertently impales Tynar on a giant thorn.
  • Near the end of "A Jolly J-WITCH Xmas", Cornelia sadly laments that this is the first Christmas without Elyon. Luckily, the other girls quickly reassure her.
  • Will and Matt's relationship troubles in "Stolen Heart and Mask", despite Jade doing her best to help out.
  • Elyon learning that Phobos has been lying to her, as he betrays her to start stealing her magic. And for his part, Phobos is clearly upset about having to do it.
    • When she recovers at Section 13, she has a breakdown as it fully hits her how many mistakes she made.
  • Miranda's heartbreak at Cedric's death.

     Season 2
  • As per canon, there's Caleb and Cornelia's breakup due to him choosing to stay on Meridian to shore up Elyon's new reign.
  • As it just happened recently, Miranda is still grieving Cedric's death.
  • Uncle reminiscing about the previous generation of Guardians and what happened to them.
  • Drago giving a mocking speech to Cornelia for no other reason than to Kick the Dog.
  • While he greets Halinor warmly, Uncle is very bitter and cold towards the Oracle. Halinor sadly notes without specifics that Uncle still holds a grudge against the Oracle for what happened with Nerissa.
  • When Elyon goes to question Shendu about Drago, the Demon Sorcerer takes the time to mess with her head to spite her, like asking why she didn't execute Phobos for what he did.
  • Will gets rather overwhelmed when she learns about her newfound Quintessence powers and the implications of them. Luckily, the other girls are there to cheer her up.
  • Cornelia giving the cold shoulder to Caleb when he's doing his best to be friendly.
  • After Will starts learning how to use her Quintessence powers more effectively, she starts to get worried that she might do something like accidentally suck the life-force from Matt.
  • Although Jade does her best to be mature about it, the others can tell that she's not happy that the Earth and Moon Demon Chi showed up on her birthday, ruining her plans to have a fun day with her friends.
  • Though it's more nightmarish than sad, Jade and Will's shared dream has Shendu possessing Jackie again and killing all their loved ones.
  • In "A Demon's Wings in the Witches' Town", Drago summons the spirits of the innocents that died in the Salem Witch Trials, full of anguish at their undeserved fate.
  • When Caleb is captured in "Facades of Evil", Cornelia gets so worried that she starts to have a panic attack.
  • In "Down to Earth", Martin is clearly dejected that Irma seemingly isn't interested in him.
  • When a trance-marcher Jackie is about to use the Horn of Hypnos on her and the others in "One Person's Trash", Irma's heartfelt plea falls on deaf ears.
  • In "Clash of the Titanics", Phobos tells Elyon once again that he did not kill their parents, and she's torn on whether to believe him or not.
  • It's hard not to feel bad for the heroes in "Stealing Thunder" when all of their plans come to naught because of an eavesdropping Trill.
  • Poor Jewel has it even worse than Will's canon Altermere in "Jewel Hunt", as not only does she have all of Will's powers, emotions, and memories, but Jade's as well, causing her significant distress as she tries to deal with the conflicting thoughts in her head.
  • In "Weight of the Burden", Will in particular is not taking what happened with Jewel well. It doesn't help that Drago uses this to taunt her and get her off her game.
  • "Illusions of Flame" shows that Will continues to be haunted by grief over Jewel's death, even during the vacation that's meant to be allowing the Guardians to get much needed stress relief.
  • Right before Nerissa captures Elyon in "Return", she (with a few interjections by Drago and Miranda) mocks the young queen for how she was played, confirming that she was the one who killed Elyon and Phobos's parents and framed the latter.
  • "Shadows of the Past" details Nerissa's Start of Darkness, and it is fittingly sad.
  • Uncle's dream when in his magical coma in "The Uncertain Present" shows that his failure to save Cassidy or Nerissa deeply impacted him, and part of why he became so dedicated to furthering his craft as a Chi Wizard is to make up for it, even if he could only save a single life.
  • Nerissa lamenting in "In and Out of Balance" that Quintessence can't heal, flashing back to when Cassidy died and Nerissa couldn't do anything to save the love of her life.
    • Later in the chapter, Uncle declares that the Nerissa that he and Yan Lin called friend is dead, which actually seems to hurt Nerissa for a moment.
