A list of all the quirky (and we mean quirky) caste of characters in the story.

Science Club
In General
- Butt-Monkey: All three members qualify to some extent:
- Ueno is a self-inflicted example, since most of the humiliation and pratfalls she suffers are due to the inventions she herself created.
- Tanaka is a standard example, considering he's called a pervert whenever he so much as makes something that could be mistake for a pervy act.
- Yamashita typically avoids the same pratfalls of the two by not getting that involved with the project at hand, but whenever Ueno needs someone to test her invention in order to prove something to Tanaka, or just to prove it works, Yamashita's the person she goes to.
- Last-Name Basis: Whenever Tanaka or Yamashita are talked to, people refer to them as their surnames respectively. Yamashita's technically isn't confirmed, but Tanaka's becomes confirmed in a later chapter that introduces his sister.
- Only One Name: None of the club members have had their full name revealed, and are only known by their surname, like Tanaka and Yamashita, or by their first name, Ueno.
- The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Not so much Ueno, who seems to make an invention every day, but definitely in the case of Tanaka and Yamashita, the former who's either studying or looking like a statue whenever he arrives, and the latter spending more time reading books than doing anything scientific.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Ueno is the Red Oni, and both Tanaka and Yamashita serve as the Blue Onis.
- Two Girls and a Guy
Ueno
- Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa (Japanese), Hilary Haag (English)
The genius president of the Science Club, and the main female character of the series. She has a crush on Tanaka, a fellow member of the club, but since she can't say her feelings for him, she constantly tries to confess to him or get him to fall in love with her, with minimal success.
- Accidental Pervert: If her invention doesn't make her look like a fool or like a madwoman, then it's going to make her look like a pervert, one way or another. In fact, considering how some of these inventions work, it can turn into a case of Not Helping Your Case. When trying, she extends her hand and asks Tanaka for his underwear. No explanation, no other option given beforehand, she just asks for his underwear and expects him to play along.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: The anime turns her eyes red, when they're blue on the manga covers.
- Ass Shove: Subverted. At first, it looks like her spare invention got shoved up her butt when she slipped and fell on it, but Yamashita later confirms that it only got stuck in her underwear.
- Between My Legs: Receives this shot several times.
- Brilliant, but Lazy: Ueno's a genius, the various inventions she creates makes that fact clearer than a clean window, but she shows no interest in doing anything with them beyond getting Tanaka's attention.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Her biggest issue with her crush on Tanaka, besides the fact that he doesn't seem to notice, is that no matter what, she just can't gather up the courage the say her crush out loud.
- Child Prodigy: Ueno's a high school student who has both the tinkering and the brains to create revolutionary technology... but she doesn't use it for anything other than get Tanaka's attention.
- Complexity Addiction: Either this, or she has a bad habit of making her schemes to get Tanaka's love way more completely than necessary.
- Comically Small Bribe: If she wants Yamashita to do something for her, she usually only has to bribe her with 100 Yen and she'll do it. Keep in mind that a 100 Yen in Japan is the equivalent of 90 cents in the United States, so it's not even a full dollar, and yet the bribe almost always works.
- Establishing Character Moment: She opens the first episode of the anime (and chapter 1 in the manga) by asking Tanaka to drink her (purified) urine, which she made from something called "Rokka-Kun," her latest invention. Then she does a complicated explanation over how, by purifying it, she basically created a secondary water source, showing that Ueno really is a genius capable of creating revolutionary technology, even if she ends up making herself looking like a weirdo in the process.
- Expressive Hair: Her twintails act up depending on how she's feeling; If she's flustered, worried, or just Blue with Shock, they make waves, and if she's angry or just really agitated, they spike up.
- Failure Is the Only Option: No matter how hard she tries, or how much she effort she puts into her schemes, she never gets Tanaka to fall in love with her.
- Fiery Redhead: Downplayed, since she only really gets riled up whenever she deals with Tanaka's denseness, but behind her calm smiling facade, Ueno has quite a lot of energy.
- Gadgeteer Genius: A bottle-like machine that can purify waste water into drinkable water? An egg-shaped apparatus that creates a forcefield that blacks rain, basically replacing an umbrella? A machine that can give life to inanimate objects? You name it, she can make it. Just don't expect her to use them for society.
- I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!: She attempts to invoke something like this with the Hundred Percent Negation Armor; She wears a bra that notably adds a cup or two to her bust, while also saying that it's a type of armor that completely absorbs any shock delivered to the part, negating it in the process, expecting it to trick Tanaka into confessing he knows what her bust size is. Tanaka, being Tanaka, doesn't get it.
- Insane Troll Logic: It's honestly amazing how out-there some of Ueno's logic can be. To say just one example, her invention that brings objects to life, she uses her own stockings so that, if the ensuing creature takes a liking to Tanaka and he returns the affection, it'll be like saying that he loves her legs.
- Instant Soprano: After one of her inventions got shoved up her butt, while trying to prove it could do an umbrella's job, Ueno's voice goes up by quite a few octaves.
- Master of the Mixed Message: An example who isn't even trying to be a master; Ueno honestly wants to tell Tanaka she loves him, but her way of doing so not only invites several interpretations (Most of which Tanak wouldn't get anyway), but her bizarre sense of logic also guarantees she'll do things as weird as possible, without thinking of whether it could work or not.
- Reed Richards Is Useless: Every single day at the club, Ueno builds some kind of invention that could revolutionize the entire industry quite easily, possibly even making her rich in the process, but she never really thinks about selling her inventions or even trying to do anything with them other than execute yet another plan to get Tanaka to fall in love with her.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Only has eyes for Tanaka. Then again, she doesn't have many options.
- Un-Confession: She gets very close to actually confessing to Tanaka when he's asleep, but just as she asks him what he thinks of her, Tanaka wakes up and interrupts the confession.
- What Does She See in Him?: Ueno, a Child Prodigy who can create, in a day, technology that would take several scientist years, if not decades to develop, somehow fell in love with Tanaka, easily the most plain character in the entire manga. Sure, she does state that she likes his obliviousness, but this fails to justify the lengths in which she'll go to confess to him.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Sometimes, it's simply not enough for her scheme to fail; Ueno also happens to go through some kind of humiliation or pratfall along the way, and the few times she gets close to telling Tanaka how she feels, it's more or less guaranteed that something will happen that'll render her back to square one.
Tanaka
- Voiced by: Aimi Tanaka (Japanese), Nathan Wilson (English)
- Accidental Pervert: Just like Ueno, although in his case, it really does happen by accident more often than not, or when he's falsely accused of being a pervert.
- Captain Oblivious: What else can you describe a guy who remains completely stoic and unfazed when dealing with Ueno's bizarre inventions?
- Covert Pervert: On the other hand, there are some instances in the manga and anime that can make someone question
- When Ueno puts on a bra to try and invoke I Have Boobs, You Must Obey! on him, Tanaka insists that the place the invention is at is in her rump, which she proceeds to slap. Then, when Ueno has enough and tries to run away, Tanaka catches her and continues to slap her.
- When Ueno shows him her new invention, basically a Gacha machine that gives whoever uses it whatever they want, Tanaka uses it... and gets Yamashita's panties. And when he tries to use it again, he gets swimsuit.
- While it was covered by some space-like stuff, and he said he only wanted to see where it went, that doesn't change the fact he still tried to put his hand through a girl's chest after she had stripped off to test Ueno's invention.
- Curtains Match the Windows: Black hair, Black eyes.
- Idiot Hero: Tanaka's rather dense. Sure, some of it could be blamed on him being oblivious, but you can't call Tanaka anything else but an idiot if Ueno jumped out of a box practically naked except for the gift wrapping covering her intimate parts asking him to look at her, then appeared dressed in a giant heart with "for you" at the bottom, and he still failed to ponder if there was something more to it.
- Oblivious to Hints: Love isn't the only thing that Tanaka's oblivious at, since he's equally bad at recognizing and understanding hints at Ueno's crush. Granted, the fact that half of those hints can either be taken out of context, be applied to the wrong context, or outright fly past his head probably doesn't help matters.
- Oblivious to Love: Tanaka isn't aware of Ueno's crush on him, although how unaware of it he is has been a point of contention.
- The One Guy: Of the Science Club.
- Ridiculously Average Guy: Seriously, compared to every other character present in the manga (A redheaded genius who's also a weirdo, a snow-haired bookworm who's stone-faced no matter, a brunette who has no problem taking off her clothes as long as you don't touch her, a girl who sweats gallons every day without suffering from dehydration, and even his own Sweet Tooth twin sisters), Tanaka's only notable trait is that he's a guy.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He does this right at the end of the very first chapter, when Yamashita and Ueno's inability to spell out the latter's in love with him causes him to get too stressed. Considering the other bizarre things that happen afterwards, it's surprising that this is the only time he does it.
- Unfazed Everyman: A robot that looks like Ueno? A creature that was born by giving Ueno's stockings sentience? A girl offering him to drink her sweat? Tanaka may not have seen all of those things before, but he definitely doesn't react as surprised as he should.
Yamashita
- Voiced by: Akari Kageyama (Japanese), Monica Rial (English)
- Beware the Quiet Ones: Yamashita usually doesn't talk unless she's spoken to, but if she talks and you get on her bad side
- Bookworm: Whenever she appears and she's not looking stoically at whatever's going on, she's reading a book and generally ignoring the bizarre things happening around her.
- Bring My Brown Pants: When Ueno yells loudly to try scare Tanaka, Yamashita is the one that gets scared instead, resulting in this trope.
- The Comically Serious: Ueno's invention of the day? Tanaka being a dense moron? Having a book on her head? Yamashita will show the exact same stoic expression no matter what.
- Cutting the Knot: As early as the first chapter, she tries to tell Tanaka that Ueno is in love with him, but she has trouble spitting it out, so she decides to create complex plans in order to do so. The fact she fails to specify feelings as in "romantic feelings" and "I want you to drink my purified pee feelings" makes the idea go right above his head.
- Non-Standard Character Design: It's nothing too major, but her eyes are notably drawn different than the other character.
- Not So Stoic: She's usually calm and silent, but when she gets fed up with Tanaka's density she snaps violently.
- Rei Ayanami Expy: White hair? Check. Quiet to a fault? Check. Rarely shows emotion? Don't put her next to Tanaka, and you have yet another yes.
Other Characters
Kitanaga
- Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu (Japanese), Melissa Molano (English)
- Curtains Match the Windows: Brown hair, Brown eyes.
- Everyone Has Standards: She has shades of The Gadfly and The Tease, and her face at Ueno after asking a question to Tanaka implies she loves to tease others. She also has no problem getting naked in a room with a guy in it. However, when Tanaka mindlessly tries to touch the black space covering her breasts to see where it goes, she goes Blue with Shock and backs away.
- The Gadfly: She outright teases Ueno when she thinks she's upset that she's stripping in the club room.
- Hypocrite: Her cameo in the Gachaporter chapter ends with her calling a pervert to Tanaka, who just took out her swimsuit from the titular device. This coming from a girl who not only undressed with Tanaka still in sight, but proceeded to both tease him and Ueno.
- Shameless Fanservice Girl: She first takes off a coat she's wearing when she appears to reveal a swimsuit underneath, then starts taking it off while Tanaka is still in the room. And then at the end of the chapter, she leaves the clubroom while leaving her clothes behind.
- The Tease: Her mannerisms as she walks up to Tanaka while the Quilt Hide is in effect, and the suggestive nature of the question she poses to him, makes her come off as this.
U-E No. 13
- Voiced by: Yuu Serizawa (Japanese), Hilary Haag (English)
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: Even bigger than Nishihara's!
- Cutting the Knot: Like Yamashita before her, she tries to tell Tanaka that Ueno loves him. Unlike Yamashita, though, she tries to outright tell him that, no strings or hints attached. But Ueno interrupts her before she can finish it.
- Machine Monotone: She speaks this way, quite unlike the usualy energetic tone sported by the real Ueno.
- Made of Iron: Pun aside, Ueno repeatedly smashes a chair on top of her to stop her from confessing that Ueno loves her, and the robot herself shows no signs of damage.
- Mythology Gag: The anime gives her blue eyes that used to be part of the real Ueno's in the manga cover.
- Perpetual Frowner: She has a scowl permanently frozen on her face.
- Punny Name: Ueno's name split in half, with a thirteen added at the end.
- Ridiculously Human Robot: On paper, maybe even in concept, but not in execution. Yes, U-E No. 13 does share a resemblance to the real Ueno, but several factors (Her pink hair, obvious joints, and the weird things she has for twintails) make it clear she's not the real deal.
- Robot Girl: She's a gynoid created in the name of Ueno, who is herself a girl. Suffice to say, she fits.
- Robot Me: She's supposed to resemble a robot counterpart to Ueno.
- 13 Is Unlucky: Subverted. Her name is literally U-E No. 13, but in terms of chances of success, she's among the few of Ueno's schemes that comes the closest to revealing her love for Tanaka.
Nishihara
- Voiced by: Rina Sato (Japanese), Kira Vincent-Davis (English)
- Atrocious Alias: "The Pants-Wetting Pee Girl." She's not known as this yet, but fears that she will if something isn't done about her sweating.
- Big Ol' Eyebrows: Her eyebrows are notably bigger than most of the other characters, except for U-E no. 13.
- Charles Atlas Superpower: Parodied; By supposedly training and resting approprietly, she developed athletic super abilities beyond human reasoning.
- Comically Missing the Point: Ueno tells her Tanaka isn't "that kind of guy" when she tries to get him to drink her purified sweat from the lower half of the PE Reservoir. So she tries to get it to drink it from the upper part, upon which Ueno gives up and tells her how him not reacting to that stuff is his specialty.
- Curtains Match the Windows: Blue hair, Blue eyes.
- Idiot Hair: Has a strand at the top of her hair resembling this.
- Innocent Fanservice Girl: Like before her, she tries to change in order to test the PE Reservoir, but Ueno tells her to dress up elsewhere.
- Sweat Drop: Exageratted. Her overwhelming metabolism makes her sweat a lot, so to show this, she's shown with several of these all around her body.
Tamon
- Voiced by: Shiori Izawa (Japanese, Holly Segara (English)
- All Animals Are Dogs: Exhibits dog-like behavior.
- Ambiguous Gender: Tamon's body doesn't have any notable tertiary or secondary characteristics that shows whether they're male or female.
- Forced Transformation: They were created from Ueno's stockings.
Mizuna and Yomogi Tanaka
- Voiced by: Miku Itō (Yomogi), Nichika Oomori (Mizuna) (Japanese), Christina Kelly (Yomogi), Patty Cakes (Mizuna) (English)
- Strong Family Resemblance: Both of them resemble Tanaka, although Mizuna more so since she and Tanaka both have short hair.
- Sweet Tooth: Both of their favorite foods are sweets.
- Identical Twin ID Tag: Mizuna is the shorter one and has a bob cut, while Yomogi is the taller one, and has longer hair.
- Only One Name: Possibly the only exception to the rule in the entire manga: They introduce themselves by giving their given names, while also revealing Tanaka is their family name.
- Remember the New Guy?: They're the sisters of one of the main character, but go completely under the radar until they episode they appear in. You can justify this with Yamashita not talking much and not knowing Mizuna had a twin, but it's weird Tanaka, their own brother, never mentioned them once.
Minamine
- Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu (Japanese), Joslyn Johnson (English)
- Curtains Match the Window: Brown hair and eyes, just like Nishihara. Hers are a tad darker, however.
- Does Not Like Men: A curious case. She dislikes boys because she thinks they are perving on her due her clothes. She then snaps when Tanaka bluntly tells her that boys do that because she's cute.
Unogawa
- Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi
- Bifauxnen: Downplayed. No one has a problem identifying her gender, but, Tanaka (being, well, Tanaka), actually confuses her for a boy due her looks and attitude regarding Ueno. She's not amused at all.
- Curtains Match the Window: Light blue hair and eyes.
