A SEKAI born from the feelings of Leo/Need, where the Virtual Singers make up the members of a band and reside in an otherwise uninhabited school.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Rin has one for everyone aside from Len - Miku-pyon, Luka-nee, MEIKO-nee, and KAITO-nii. She occasionally tries to call Len "Len-Len", but he always turns it down.
    • In the English version, Rin only has nicknames for Miku and the members of Leo/need.
  • Age Lift: Miku is the only Virtual Singer to explicitly be of high school age by default; Luka is 20 years old, Len and Rin are 14 years old, and MEIKO and KAITO don't have official ages but are generally implied to be adults. Despite this, they all appear as high school students in this SEKAI.
  • Color-Coded Characters: Each Virtual Singer has a color incorporated into their uniform. Interestingly, Miku's and Luka's don't match up to their original versions' image colors.
    • Miku: Magenta
    • Luka: Blue
    • MEIKO: Red
    • Rin: Orange
    • KAITO: Navy Blue
    • Len: Yellow and Orange
  • Childhood Friends: Averted Trope. Unlike Leo/need, it's revealed via a side story discussion between Len and KAITO that the Virtual Singers don't consider themselves childhood friends, or even friends at all, but as bandmates.
  • The Empath: They all seem to have the ability to psychoanalyze others and pick up on their emotions simply by hearing them play music.
  • High School AU: In this SEKAI, all of the Virtual Singers are depicted as high school students.
  • Jack of All Trades: Don't Lose Faith! reveals that despite each of them being associated with a particular instrument, all of the Virtual Singers in this SEKAI are able to play any instrument, but are consequently the Master of None.
  • Mirror Character: Most of the Virtual Singers that appear in this SEKAI serve as this to one or more of the members of Leo/need. For example, Rin is essentially a Virtual Singer version of Saki. KAITO, meanwhile, takes his traits from both Ichika and Shiho, making him a Composite Character.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: While there is a clear outline for how the Virtual Singers' school uniforms look, each Virtual Singer has their uniform styled in a way that makes it more unique to their character, such as Rin's blazer being oversized and Len wearing a hoodie under his.
  • School of No Studying: While the SEKAI is set in a school, the Virtual Singers are never shown studying or doing anything related to schoolwork, as they are primarily focused on practicing music for their band. It's implied that this SEKAI is perpetually set during the time after which classes end and afterschool activities such as band practice begin.
  • Sixth Ranger: Or "fifth ranger" in this case, as Leo/need is a four-(wo)man band but the Virtual Singers, usually Miku, join in to practice or perform with them.
  • Signature Instrument: All of the Virtual Singers have a unique instrument (or instruments in MEIKO and Rin's cases) that reflects their role in the band, mirroring the role of the Leo/need band members they're directly connected to. Similar to Leo/need, these are also modeled after real-world instruments:
    • Miku: Fender Stratocaster
    • Rin: KORG KROSS 2 61-Key Synthesizer in Gray-Orange
    • Luka: Fender American Standard Precision Bass
    • MEIKO: 1960 Mosrite The Ventures in Candy Apple Red (electric guitar), Yamaha Stage Custom in Cranberry Red (drums)
    • KAITO: Gretsch G5655TG Electromatic Center Block Jr. in Azure Metallic
    • Len: Gibson Custom 1958 Korina Flying V
  • Vague Age: Notably zig-zagged compared to the other SEKAI.
    • All of the Virtual Singers in this SEKAI are high school students, which puts them in the range of 15-18 years old if taken at face value. This includes Luka, MEIKO, and KAITO, who are all implied to be young adults in the other SEKAI, as well as Rin and Len, who are by default pre-teens.
    • The SEKAI has a Senpai-Kohai dynamic going on that is somewhat affected by the order in which the Virtual Singers arrived in SEKAI and the role they play to Leo/need rather than what grade they're in like in Real Life Japanese high schools.
    • KAITO outright says in a Virtual Live that he's not that much older than Rin.

    Hatsune Miku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/l_n_miku_3rd_anniversary.png
Don't lose that feeling.
Debut Appearance
Miku as she appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where she's the guitarist and lead singer of the Virtual Singers' school band. She's Leo/need's senior, but Luka's junior.
  • Adorably Precocious Child: Very concerned about being a good mentor for the Leo/need girls, and tries hard to live up to the title, despite only being a year older than them.
  • Alternate Self: Of course, all the Virtual Singers qualify in every SEKAI, but this Miku is currently the only one to acknowledge the existence of Vocaloid/Piapro software. During the Live with Memories event, when Ichika expresses a desire have to Miku perform with Leo/need in the real world, Miku assures her that the "other me" is waiting for them.
  • Animal Motifs: Rabbits. Rin's nickname for her in the Japanese version, "Miku-pyon", refers to the onomatopoeia for rabbits' hopping, she's a prominent Virtual Singer in The Moon Rabbit & Us, and in that event, Luka and MEIKO playfully compare her to one as they discuss the folklore about the rabbit on the moon.
  • Beneath the Mask: She generally comes across as a level-headed mentor figure to Leo/need, but she works hard to cultivate that image, and easily feels like her position is being threatened, such as when MEIKO first arrives and helps Honami work through her dilemma before she could think of what to say in Don't Let Doubts Hold You Back, or when she mistakenly thought her Street SEKAI counterpart could play the guitar as well as she can on her first try in the 2022 April Fools' Day event.
  • Butt-Monkey:
  • Cool Big Sis: To Leo/need.
  • Easily Embarrassed Youngster: Quick to become flustered when teased. Both Luka and MEIKO enjoy pushing her buttons for this reason.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Rin calls her 'Miku-pyon' (or Miku-P in the English version), much to her embarrassment.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Her earnest and bashful personality get her both fawned over and teased by the more confident and mature Luka and MEIKO, because they find her adorable.
  • Extreme Doormat: While it's not as pronounced as with KAITO, she has a hard time standing up for herself when she gets teased. She also allows Rin to keep using the Embarrassing Nickname she came up for her because she doesn't have the heart to potentially hurt her feelings by telling her she doesn't like it.
  • Failed a Spot Check:
    • In her "Brand New Classroom" story, she gives an extra passionate performance for Leo/need specifically to motivate them the day before they move up a grade at school... Only to find that she was a week early.
    • In the follow-up comic to Hello Good Day!, she loudly congratulates Leo/need for moving up a grade while they're among a large crowd of other students, earning them stares as people to to figure out where Miku's voice came from.
  • Luminescent Blush: She often blushes whenever she gets teased.
  • Mirror Character: To Ichika, both bashful and insecure, but working hard to be the best they can be for the sake of Leo/need.
  • Naïve Everygirl: A pleasant but insecure girl who comes off as more naive than her fellow senpai Luka and MEIKO, but is always trying her best.
  • Nice Girl: She always wants to help support Leo/need, and she's generally friendly and kind-hearted.
  • Ship Tease: Between her deep admiration and how easily flustered she gets when she teases her, it's subtly implied that she has some sort of feelings for Luka:
    • When Miku voices her confusion over Leo/need's initial reluctance to communicate their feelings, Luka asks her if she wants to be with her forever, leading Miku to blush and become tongue-tied.
    • In "An Evolving Tone", she fashions her weather charm after Luka.
    • In Connected Through SEKAI's Cherry Blossoms, Miku fondly says that cherry blossoms remind her of Luka. In Paint What You Love♪ Rainbow Canvas, when everyone is drawing something they like, she draws cherry blossoms.
  • Slave to PR: She wants to live up to the image of being Leo/need's mentor, to the point where she practices acting like one when she thinks nobody's watching, switches to playing songs she's confident with when Leo/need arrives in SEKAI so they only hear her playing her best, and postpones giving minor advice to Saki so she could secretly ask Luka and give the "correct" answer.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: You'd be forgiven if you thought that this incarnation of Miku was intended to be the primary Virtual Singer of School SEKAI due to the amount of song focus and story weight she's given. It doesn't help that she's tied to Ichika, who is the Series Mascot and a huge Miku fan.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves sweet foods like cotton candy, although the soft and fluffy texture plays a part too.
  • Tender Tears: She's moved to tears by the lyrics Ichika wrote for the Yoshizaki siblings in Live with Memories.
  • Trickster Mentor: She occasionally teases Ichika, much like Luka does to her. In "Did You Hear That?!", she tricks Ichika into praising Shiho while she was under the impression that the latter wasn't around, while Miku knew that Shiho was standing in the hallway and could hear everything, because she knew Ichika would be too shy to say it to Shiho's face.

    Megurine Luka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/l_n_luka_3rd_anniversary.png
No need to rush.
Debut Appearance
Luka as she appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where she's the bassist of the Virtual Singers' school band.

She is the primary Virtual Singer of School SEKAI.
  • The Ace: She's able to play any instrument and is overall seen as the ideal senpai, both by Leo/need and the other Virtual Singers.
  • Allegorical Character: It's suggested in her initial side story that she was born from Saki's desire for an older student to look up to, which is why she represents the ideals of a calm, dependable senpai.
  • Authority in Name Only: She's the leader of the Virtual Singers' band as well as the SEKAI as a whole, though this becomes easy to forget due to Miku being given more prominent focus in the SEKAI from a story, advertising, and song perspective.
    • MEIKO is more likely to actually act like the leader of the group when they're having group discussions amongst themselves, due to her being more outspoken than Luka.
  • Cool Big Sis: To the members of Leo/need, and also to the other Virtual Singers.
  • Flower Motifs: She's compared to cherry blossoms, both for the color of her hair and for being a beautiful, calming presence.
  • The Gadfly: Likes to be a tease, especially towards Miku.
  • Jack of All Trades: Her ability to play any instrument is more pronounced than the other Virtual Singers', with MEIKO initially branching out to play other instruments because she knew Luka was proficient in all of them.
  • Lead Bassist: She primarily plays the bass and is considered the leader of the band and the SEKAI as a whole.
  • Neat Freak: She got into the habit of thoroughly cleaning the instruments and tidying the classroom after practice sessions early on, and she naturally becomes the SEKAI's official cleanup committee when the Virtual Singers assign themselves committee roles in Rise as ONE!.
  • Nice Girl: Very gentle and supportive to Leo/need and even to Miku, despite the light teasing she subjects her to. Her kindness is one of the main reasons she's considered the ideal senpai.
  • Out of Focus: In a few different ways:
    • While School SEKAI is intended to be viewed as her main subunit, after the game's first New Year's event, she went an entire year without receiving a single card in this SEKAI until the 1.5 anniversary event Connected Through SEKAI's Cherry Blossoms.
    • She hasn't done better in the song department; as of Live with Memories, she only has two commissioned songs and no cover songs with the group.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: She wears gray tights under her skirt in her first default design, and, being Luka, has an elegant air about her.
  • The Reliable One: One of the reasons she's considered the ideal senpai is her reliability. She's also by far the most mature and responsible of Luka's SEKAI counterparts.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She is a reliable Cool Big Sis with pink hair to boot.
  • Team Mom: Along with MEIKO, she plays this role towards both Leo/need and the other Virtual Singers, being the most composed of the senpai.
    • She also plays this role among the SEKAI incarnations of Luka in the 2022 April Fools' Day event, being the one to stop her Stage, Street, and Empty SEKAI counterparts from messing with the sleeping Wonderland SEKAI Luka. Ironic, given that she's likely the youngest version of Luka.
  • Trickster Mentor: She sometimes teases Miku as a means of teaching her something.
  • Younger than She Looks: While she's 20 years old by default, she's been aged down into a high school student in order to fit into this SEKAI's setting. However, since her appearance does not change between SEKAI beyond what she wears, she still retains the look of a young adult. Her (usually) mature and dependable personality, which is close to her base form's, also adds to her image as a young woman.

    MEIKO
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lnmeiko_9.png
I think it turned out better than before!
Debut Appearance
MEIKO as she appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where she's the drummer of the Virtual Singers' school band.

She first appears in the Don't Let Doubts Hold You Back event.
  • Commonality Connection: She initially starts bonding with Honami over being the drummers of their respective bands. She enjoys practicing with her specifically, as she doesn't often get the chance to practice with a fellow drummer.
  • Cool Big Sis: Both to Leo/need and the other Virtual Singers.
  • Foil: She arrived responding to Honami's feelings, and they are the resident drummers of their respective bands, but rather than being a Mirror Character, several of MEIKO's traits contrast Honami's:
    • Where Honami is passive and averse to conflict, MEIKO believes that some conflict is healthy and even necessary, and allows things to play out instead of trying to pacify the situation as Honami would.
    • MEIKO is far more confident and relaxed in her role as the band's foundation and is described as being something of a leader, whereas Honami is uncomfortable with having such an important role.
  • The Gadfly: Likes to push Miku's buttons.
  • Genki Girl: Not to the same degree as Rin, but she's fairly energetic and can get excitable.
  • The Leader: Although Luka is the primary Virtual Singer of this SEKAI, MEIKO acts more like the leader of the group than she does due to her more outspoken nature. When Leo/need is looking for someone to stand in for Honami who can also act as a leader, MEIKO is immediately volunteered for the role.
  • Masochist's Meal: When the Virtual Singers each request a snack in "An All-Out Performance", she chooses super spicy chips; being warned that they were so hot that Saki cried when she tried them just makes her more excited to try them.
  • Mirror Character: To Honami. While she started off as more of a Foil, they have become more similar through Character Development, with Honami becoming more confident in speaking her mind and being a leader, much like MEIKO.
  • Nice Girl: Very friendly and supportive, and tries to reassure the more anxious members of the group like Honami and KAITO with her calm confidence.
  • Plucky Girl: She's known for her confidence and fearlessness.
  • Team Mom: Towards Leo/need, which fosters her friendship with the group's resident team mom figure Honami. She doesn't appreciate it when it's pointed out to her in With the Courage and Kindness to Lead, preferring to be seen as a Cool Big Sis. The group eventually settles on considering her and Luka to be like "teachers".
  • Younger than She Looks: She appears as a high school student alongside the other Virtual Singers in order to fit this SEKAI's school setting. However, because her appearance doesn't change between SEKAI beyond what she wears, she still retains the look of a young woman, which is especially apparent when she interacts with the members of Leo/need.

    Kagamine Rin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lnrin_0.png
I wanna hear more about what happened back then☆
Debut Appearance
Rin as she appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where she's the keyboard player in the Virtual Singers' school band.

She first appears in the Unnamed Harmony event.
  • Ambiguously Related: Notably has a sibling-esque dynamic with Len. However, as with every version of Rin and Len, it's ambiguous as to whether they're meant to be viewed as siblings, Opposite Sex Clones, or Identical Strangers.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Len treats her like one, but tends to bend to her will anyway.
  • Big Brother Worship:
    • She considers KAITO a big brother figure and she seems to admire him, hyping him up to Leo/need and praising him for his guitar skills, much to his embarrassment.
    • She also looks up to Miku, becoming fixated on performing for her in Putting Feelings Into Words as a way of telling her that she's doing a great job.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She thinks maturity comes down to wearing bigger hair accessories.
  • Commonality Connection: She's very attached to Saki and loves spending time with her even outside of their band activities, owing to their similar interests and fun-loving personalities.
  • Cute Oversized Sleeves: Her sleeves are a bit oversized on both of her outfits, and she has the most childlike personality of the group.
  • Drink-Based Characterization: In "My Own Way Of Being Cool!", she dismisses coffee as being too bitter, and says she prefers tea or juice, showcasing her more childish personality.
  • Establishing Character Moment: In her introduction, she bursts into the classroom after having overslept, cheerfully introduces herself to Leo/need, and immediately assigns everyone a nickname, establishing her as a somewhat careless Genki Girl.
  • The Fashionista: Like Saki, she's interested in fashion, accessories, and especially hairstyling.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish Maybe-Sibling to Len's Responsible Maybe-Sibling.
  • Friendly Rival: She and Len have a playfully competitive streak toward each other.
  • Genki Girl: Always bright and energetic, to the point of being considered a bit of a handful.
  • Giver of Lame Names: At least Miku, Len, and Shiho think so.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • She keeps calling Miku by her Embarrassing Nickname, unaware that she really doesn't like it.
    • Seemingly unaware of his anxieties, she chewed KAITO out for avoiding Leo/need when he first arrived in front of the band, putting him on the spot and making Honami worry that they were imposing on him.
    • In Live with Memories, she clings to Len and pesters him into practicing with her, disregarding his need for space and desire to practice alone.
  • Like Brother and Sister: She sees KAITO as an older brother figure.
  • Mirror Character: Shares a lot in common with Saki, both being lively and cheerful girls who can be a little bit stubborn and pushy when it comes to getting their way, and have a bad habit of overextending themselves. The comic version of Rin's introduction to the SEKAI has Shiho lament that it's like having two Sakis. She's even primarily associated with using the KORG KROSS 2 61-Key Synthesizer, the same instrument Saki plays.
    • In Live with Memories, she also mirrors Hanano, who's upset with her older brother because she feels like he's pushing her away, much like Rin latching onto Len and being upset that he doesn't want to practice with her.
  • Nice Girl: MEIKO describes her as good-natured and easy to get along with in the official fan book; she is indeed very friendly and enjoys making others happy.
  • The Nicknamer: In the Japanese version, she immediately assigns everybody a nickname upon her arrival, with Len being the sole exception. In the English version, she only has nicknames for Miku and Leo/need.
  • Out of Focus: Took the longest of any Virtual Singer in School SEKAI to sing a commissioned song with Leo/need, which she didn't do until the Don't Lose Faith! event.
  • Quality vs. Quantity: She's firmly on the side of Quantity, as discussed in an area conversation she has with Len, where she wants to learn a bunch of new songs at once, while Len believes it'd be better for her to perfect the song she was already working on before moving onto the next one.
    • Shows up again when the group draws a cherry blossom tree on the blackboard. Rin draws the most cherry blossoms by far, which is contrasted with KAITO, who draws a few hyper-realistic cherry blossoms.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The energetic and talkative Red Oni to KAITO's shy and reserved Blue Oni. When Len arrives, she also becomes the Red Oni to his savvy Blue Oni.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The Energetic Girl to Len's Savvy Guy.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves candy.
  • Those Two Guys: Immediately latches onto Len after his debut in Putting Feelings Into Words, creating this dynamic with him. When she's not with Len, she's often with MEIKO.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Her introductory card is even called "Tomboyish Melody".

    KAITO
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lnkaito_3.png
U-Um, I...
Debut Appearance
KAITO as he appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where he's the guitarist of the Virtual Singers' school band.

He first appears in the A Bright Future!! event.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Serves as one to Leo/need, somewhat reluctantly due to his insecurities about how useful he is to them. However, his musical knowledge and ability to recognize the shortcomings of each member's performance and give them advice on what they can do to improve make him a better mentor than he realizes. This is something the other Virtual Singers are trying to make him see.
  • Broken Ace: He's The Ace when he's playing music and he's also shown to be an incredibly skilled artist, but his social anxiety and lack of self-confidence often lead him to shy away from being in the spotlight.
  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to become one when meeting people for the first time due to his meekness being at the forefront, without having a more familiar character around to save him from uncomfortable situations.
    • He's first introduced to Leo/need getting berated by the other Virtual Singers for putting off introducing himself for so long, embarrassed and unable to get a word in edgewise. In the comic version of his introduction, Rin and MEIKO mess with him by putting ribbons in his hair.
    • In the third April Fools' Day event, he ends up largely surrounded by more energetic personalities and has a hard time coping. He's later forced to be a taste-tester for Street SEKAI Miku, which traumatizes him so much that he avoids her for the rest of the event.
  • Character Development: While he remains quiet and socially awkward, he gradually becomes more comfortable with Leo/need and the rest of the group, and eventually stops declining invitations to hang out, to Luka's surprise.
  • Commonality Connection: He starts forming an unspoken bond with Shiho in That day, the Sky was Far Away over their shared introversion. Exemplified in the follow-up area conversation, where KAITO is relieved to find that Shiho isn't offended by him telling her that he was using the classroom to practice alone, and she instead relates to it.
    • This is jokingly subverted in the follow-up gag comic, where they start to bond as they do in the event proper... until Shiho describes some of her school friends outside of Leo/need - Kohane, Minori, and Emu, leading KAITO to become dejected over being Not So Similar, as he doesn't believe he could handle having such energetic friends.
  • Composite Character: He appears to adopt most of his traits from Ichika and Shiho. His first song with the group is Ichika and Shiho-centric, and his first Trust Ranks with Leo/need are with them, establishing his connection with both characters.
    • Like Ichika, KAITO is shy, lacking in self-confidence, and easily embarrassed. In "Abyss of Memories", it turns out that they both tend to blink the moment they have their photo taken.
    • He and Shiho are both the quietest and least social members of their respective groups and need their own space. They also share a strong passion for music, with that being the one subject that they'll easily open up about.
    • Although it's less focused on compared to his similarities with Ichika and Shiho, he also shares Honami's strong aversion to conflict and tendency to sit on the fence when faced with opposing points of view, though he continues to display these traits long after Honami grows out of them
  • Cool Big Bro: Rin sees him as one and refers to him as "KAITO-nii" in the Japanese version.
  • Dismissing a Compliment: Shy about receiving praise and tends to downplay it when it's given to him, as his insecurities make him feel like he doesn't contribute as much as the other Virtual Singers.
  • Drink-Based Characterization: His cameo in Len's "A Moment After School" card reveals that the shy, reticent KAITO likes to drink black coffee, contrasting the cheerful Len who drinks milk during his lunch break.
  • Easily Embarrassed Youngster: Simply having his shyness pointed out is enough to make him blush.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When he's first introduced to Leo/need, the other Virtual Singers chew him out for avoiding the band for so long while he can't get a word in edgewise, establishing him as a timid Shrinking Violet. He then gets the chance to play music and show that he has a very strong presence while performing, in contrast to his usual shy demeanor.
  • Extreme Doormat: His Shrinking Violet tendencies make it difficult for him to stand up for himself.
    • In A Bright Future!!, which serves as his introductory event, he doesn't get a chance to explain his reason for avoiding Leo/need when Rin chews him out for putting it off for so long, despite having previously told Luka and MEIKO that he doesn't believe he'll be useful to them now that they've grown in his absence.
    • In the comic version of his introduction, Rin and MEIKO decorate his hair with ribbons and hair clips, embarrassing him in front of Leo/need, while he doesn't do anything to stop them despite evidently not enjoying it.
    • There have been several instances of other characters having to speak up on his behalf due to his inability to say "no" or directly voice his discomfort, such as Miku volunteering to perform in his stead when Leo/need invited him to perform with them during That day, the Sky was Far Away's after show, Rin asking Saki not to keep staring at him while he's reviewing her song, and Honami telling Saki not to put him on the spot when she tries to get him to use her nickname.
  • Foil: While his personality shares similarities with both Ichika and Shiho, he also contrasts them:
    • He's more secure in his musical abilities than Ichika is, and helped her to become more confident in her lyric writing. On the other hand, his shyness is far more pronounced, to the point of coming off as full-blown social anxiety.
    • While he and Shiho both say what's on their mind, KAITO lacks her Brutal Honesty and seems to limit it to giving advice to the members of Leo/need or the other Virtual Singers on how they can improve their performances or make progress in some other way. They also play different roles within their bands - Shiho is the Lead Bassist who drives the rest of Leo/need, while KAITO is a guitarist who usually prefers to blend into the background and play supporting roles.
  • Forgotten Birthday: He forgot about his own anniversary in the game's third year and couldn't understand why everyone was looking for him, leading him to assume that he must have done something wrong and consequently avoiding them.
  • Friend to All Living Things: In Rise as ONE!, he's assigned the role of SEKAI's official animal caretaking committee due to his tendency to play music for the birds. Although he's initially afraid of Honami's dog, Shibao, they form a fast friendship once KAITO realizes that Shibao wasn't barking at him to drive him away, bit because he wanted him to play with him.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He's not only extremely shy and avoidant of social situations, but also insecure and down on himself about how useful he is to Leo/need, despite them holding his abilities and opinions in high esteem.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • For all of his insecurity and lack of confidence, he has an incredibly powerful presence when playing music, and tends to go all-out when he's performing. He's also very knowledgeable about music, so much so that he could easily recognize the weaknesses in each member's performances after hearing a recording of one of their practices. He usually speaks more confidently when analyzing music and giving advice, contrasting his usual stuttering and delayed speech.
    • An Area Conversation that takes place after Echo my melody reveals that all the advice he's given Leo/need has been unconscious on his part, as he just says what's on his mind and it just so happens to end up being just what Leo/need needs to hear. When Ichika and Shiho point out how good his advice has been, he worries that if he's praised too much for it he'll end up having the Centipede's Dilemma.
    • Despite generally feeling like he's not good with words, With the Courage and Kindness to Lead shows that he's surprisingly good at coming up with analogies.
  • Irony: He is one of the two versions of KAITO to refer to himself as "ore", a typically confident and masculine pronoun, despite being the meekest version of him.
  • Lovable Coward: He's anxious, easily startled, and often tries to avoid situations he finds uncomfortable. At the same time, he is also a legitimate sweetheart who cares for the others, both Leo/need and the rest of the Virtual Singers.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • In A Bright Future!!, he blushes visibly when Luka and MEIKO read his facial expressions and tease him about becoming more tempted to meet Leo/need after hearing their music, and again when Luka playfully points out his shyness in front of the band.
    • In Paint What You Love♪ Rainbow Canvas, he blushes when Miku compliments his artwork.
    • In Weaving Precious Memories with You, he blushes after recounting a story where he tripped over the door frame.
  • Manly Man and Sensitive Guy: The meek Sensitive Guy to Len's confident Manly Man.
  • Neutrality Backlash: In one Area Conversation, he ends up hiding from Rin and Len because they tried to ask him to decide who was in the right during one of their arguments and he ran away instead of giving an answer, angering both of them enough to team up against him.
  • Nice Guy: He's soft-spoken and kind, only wanting the best for the members of Leo/need, despite his awkward approach to interacting with them. He also worries about the Kagamines a lot, as he's shown to want to calm things down when they get heated, while the other Virtual Singers are generally less concerned about their little spats.
  • No Social Skills: He doesn't dislike interacting with others, but he doesn't know what to do with himself in social situations because he considers himself awkward and bad at holding a conversation.
  • Odd Friendship: He gets along very well with Len despite the latter's more confident and assertive personality.
  • The One Guy: He was this for a short period after his debut in A Bright Future!!, as the SEKAI otherwise consisted entirely of female characters. Len would join the SEKAI 5 events later in Putting Feelings Into Words.
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly plays this role among his other SEKAI counterparts during the 2022 April Fools' Day event.
Street KAITO: *After hearing about Wonderland and Stage SEKAI's duties* I like the idea of giving what you love your all, but I'm not sure about having to take on so much responsibility. In my case, it's sort of about doing whatever's the most fun. As a result, I'm allowed quite a few liberties.
School KAITO: Wait, that works for you...? Aren't Miku or the ones who created your SEKAI bothered by that...?
Street KAITO: Haha. They're all good people. Unless something serious comes up, I'm usually out enjoying myself.
Wonderland and Stage KAITO: (impressed) That's incredible. It's like you're oozing with confidence!
School KAITO: (I'm not sure I should take what he just said to heart... But what's the harm...?)
  • Other Me Annoys Me: He's a bit put off by how chatty and hedonistic his Street SEKAI counterpart is after meeting him in the 2022 April Fools' Day event. Empty SEKAI's MEIKO feels the same way.
  • The Quiet One: Doesn't have much to say and appears to talk very slowly.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The meek and quiet Blue Oni to Rin's chatty and demanding Red Oni. After Len arrives, he also becomes the Blue Oni to his confident Red Oni.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's socially awkward and tends to evade social situations altogether, such as when he put off meeting Leo/need because he felt he'd arrived too late to be helpful to them, tried to turn down an invitation to his own welcoming party, and hid from the group during his 2022 anniversary celebration out of fear of being the center of attention. In each case, he only showed up after being prompted by a more sociable Virtual Singer (Rin, MEIKO, and Miku, respectively), rather than showing up of his own volition. It's implied that this trait comes from a combination of Ichika's lack of self-confidence and Shiho's introversion.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Boy: His most prominent trait in this SEKAI is his shyness.
  • Stoic Spectacles: He's very quiet, and the only Virtual Singer to wear glasses across SEKAI. Downplayed in that he was never shown wearing his glasses up until his "Facing Your Song" 3☆ card, with the implication that he only wears them for reading. Averted as of the game's third anniversary, which removes the glasses as part of his design.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Between his reticence and attempts to avoid interacting with others, he can come off as a bit aloof and distant, but he can also be very warm and supportive, as shown in his interactions with Ichika, and later Shiho.
  • Technician Versus Performer: The Technician to Len's Performer in regards to art. KAITO is the most knowledgeable and technical artist, usually producing very realistic art, while Len's art is more stylized as he draws things in the way he personally finds cool rather than drawing them as they are.
  • Those Two Guys: Increasingly with Len after he appears in the SEKAI, culminating with them spending most of their time together in No Seek, No Find and its related side stories.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Implied to be ice cream, as with most versions of KAITO.
  • Younger Than He Looks: Averted Trope, as physically he doesn't look much older than the characters of the Original Generation, despite vaguely being implied to be a young adult in other SEKAI. His general demeanor also helps him to come off as more of a high school student, especially compared to Luka and MEIKO.

Hey, you're here!
Len as he appears in Leo/need's School SEKAI, where he's a member of the Virtual Singers' school band.

He first appears in the Putting Feelings Into Words event.
  • The Ace: He's very skilled at playing guitar, beating Rin every time they compete, despite her getting extra practice in.
  • Ambiguously Related: Notably has a sibling-esque dynamic with Rin. However, as with every version of Rin and Len, it's ambiguous as to whether they're meant to be viewed as siblings, Opposite Sex Clones, or Identical Strangers.
  • Anger Born of Worry: In Putting Feelings Into Words, he argues with Rin over her excessively practicing without breaks.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He's the last Virtual Singer to appear in School SEKAI and he's officially described as the Kouhai of the Virtual Singer group in his character description.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Though it's ambiguous as to whether they're meant to be considered siblings in this SEKAI, he shows this toward Rin, despite her trying to treat him like he's her "junior" due to him appearing in the SEKAI later than her. This comes up in an Area Conversation between him and Honami, where he believes Rin acts more like his junior than vice versa, while Honami thinks to herself that he acts more like her big brother than anything.
  • Brutal Honesty: He tends to say what's on his mind without hesitation, leading to him coming off as Innocently Insensitive at times.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: He tries to keep Rin in line.
  • Drink-Based Characterization:
    • The cheerful and energetic Len is shown drinking milk during lunch break in "A Moment After School", in contrast to the reticent KAITO drinking black coffee.
    • He says he finds the idea of drinking coffee cool in "My Own Way of Being Cool!", showing that he likes the idea of being more mature than he is.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Rin occasionally calls him "Len-Len", to his disapproval.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible maybe-sibling to Rin's Foolish maybe-sibling.
  • Friendly Rival: He and Rin have a playfully competitive streak toward each other.
  • Genki Boy: While not to the same degree as Rin, he's still playful and energetic.
  • Hidden Depths: He comes off as casual and laid-back, but he's actually quite The Perfectionist.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In An Unfamiliar Liveliness, he unintentionally hurts KAITO's feelings by saying that he's "just barely" like a senior and more of a classmate compared to Luka and MEIKO. Upon seeing his reaction, he quickly clarifies that he meant that KAITO is easier to talk to.
  • Luminescent Blush: He blushes when the original Virtual Singer Len showers him with praise.
  • Manly Man and Sensitive Guy: The energetic Manly Man to KAITO's shy Sensitive Guy.
  • Meta Guy: In An Unfamiliar Liveliness, he and KAITO reference Trust Ranks, the Senpai-Kohai dynamics of the SEKAI, and the fact that they only ever seem to talk about music or Leo/need.
  • Mirror Character: While he doesn't directly mirror the members of Leo/need like some of the others, he has mirrored a few event conflicts:
    • In Putting Feelings Into Words, he's concerned about Rin overworking herself, mirroring Honami's similar concerns about Shiho. While Honami frets over it, afraid to start a conflict, Len is more direct and works through the conflict in order to resolve the issue, inspiring Honami to do the same.
    • In Live with Memories, he and Rin directly parallel the conflict between the Yoshizaki siblings, with Len wanting to practice alone that day and pushing Rin away. Rin insists on practicing with him despite his desire for space, upset at the idea of being separated from him. This mirrors the Yoshizaki siblings' conflict, with the older brother attempting to push his younger sister away so that she can become closer to her new family, and the sister feeling lonely because she won't be able to see him anymore.
    • In Paint What I Love♪ Rainbow Canvas, he empathizes with Honami not being able to draw as well as those around her, but he's satisfied with his work regardless. Honami learns from his example.
  • Nice Guy: He's generally a chill and friendly guy, and while he sometimes gets frustrated with Rin's carelessness, he cares deeply about her, often looking out for her and trying to keep her from going overboard.
    • He's also often shown asking KAITO for his opinion and involving him in his activities, without being forceful or making him uncomfortable like some of the other Virtual Singers.
  • Not So Above It All: While he acts considerably more mature than Rin, both Miku and Luka describe him as sometimes being cheeky and mischievous in the official fanbook, though it has yet to be shown in-story.
  • Obsessive Hobby Episode: It's not the focus of the event, but he gets one in Paint What I Love♪ Rainbow Canvas. While he initially dismissed drawing as childish, once he started, he got more into it than anyone else. He continued to draw long after the others had stopped and got a giant sketchpad from Honami in the follow-up Area Conversation.
  • Odd Friendship: Gets along well with KAITO despite how different their personalities and levels of energy are.
  • The Perfectionist: He believes in quality over quantity, and is surprisingly particular about things like party decorations.
    • He was also particular about drawing realistic cherry blossoms until he saw how carefree Rin and Saki were about their art. While he carries this more relaxed stance over to Paint What I Love♪ Rainbow Canvas, believing that expressing oneself is more important in art, he still keeps trying to find ways to improve.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The savvy and relatively laid-back Blue Oni to Rin's energetic and scattered Red Oni, while simultaneously being the confident Red Oni to KAITO's shy and withdrawn Blue Oni.
  • The Runt at the End: The last Virtual Singer to be introduced into School SEKAI and the only one of the six to debut as a 2✰ rather than a 4✰.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The Savvy Guy to Rin's Energetic Girl.
  • Sixth Ranger:
    • As the last Virtual Singer to appear in School SEKAI, he shakes up the preexisting dynamics of the other Virtual Singers when Rin becomes particularly attached to him, reflecting the very close dynamic they often have in other SEKAI. By Live with Memories, he has better integrated into the School SEKAI setting and has established dynamics with the other Virtual Singers.
    • He's introduced as a member of the Virtual Singer band despite it having already been completed with KAITO's arrival. Interestingly, his official profile from the second fanbook is the only one that doesn't describe him as being a part of the band, instead going into his role as the "Kouhai" of the Virtual Singers' group.
  • Sore Loser: He hates losing according to MEIKO in the official fanbook.
  • Straight Man: Acts like one towards Rin specifically, often calling her out and making quips at her when she gets too excitable or immature.
  • Technician Versus Performer: The Performer to KAITO's Technician in regards to art. Len draws things based on how he feels about the subject, even if it means making it look different from the actual thing, such as intentionally drawing the edges of his guitar sharper than they actually are to convey the sharp sound he likes, while KAITO's art is usually described as being very realistic.
  • Those Two Guys:
    • As in most SEKAI, he becomes very close to Rin after his debut in Putting Feelings Into Words, creating this dynamic with her.
    • He's also been interacting more with KAITO lately, likely due to them being the only male characters in the SEKAI and their opposite personalities.
