     Side:Future Cast

Makoto Naegi

Voiced by: Higherfuryx2, J.Van Doren

  • Deadpan Snarker: He's much snarkier and more jaded here, likely because of trauma from the first game.
  • Good Is Not Dumb: While he still has his canon counterpart's idealism, unlike the anime, Makoto isn't at all eager to use the intercom to basically alert everyone to him. When he finally does, he makes no mention of his NG code or his location, though Kyosuke finds him anyway.
  • Only Sane Man: With the rest of his peers even crazier than usual, he shares the role of common sense with Kyoko.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: He mentions that he only just stopped screaming in his sleep from the events of the Mutual Killing Game.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Referred to as such In-Universe. Monokuma's pretty impressed when Makoto talks back to him.
Monokuma: Upupupu, look who’s decided to grow a pair!

Kyoko Kirigiri

Voiced by: Izanami VA

  • Deadpan Snarker: Her first appearance on screen has her whipping out the snark, and she only keeps it up from there.
    Makoto: Apparently, we're under attack.
    Kyoko: You don't say?
  • Emotionless Girl: Her face rarely changes expression, and she speaks in a flat monotone.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Kyoko may be actively working to solve the mystery of the killing game, but she's also bringing Tengan and Ryota along to use them as meat shields. When Ryota notes her ruthlessness, she points out that it's why she survived the first time.

Aoi Asahina

Voiced by: PaperPrincess

Chisa Yukizome

Voiced by: SageDream

  • Brainless Beauty: It's a wonder how she managed to be a teacher or a branch leader, because Chisa is not the brightest tool in the shed. In-Universe, however, she is explicitly complimented on being very pretty.
  • Cool Teacher: Fills this role for Class 77-B in Side:Despair.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She does this a lot. In Despair 1, she talks about how being a Reserve Course student is awful and how they're pathetic, right in front of Hajime. In Despair 2, when trying to cheer Chiaki up, she tells her that Hitler has more friends than her.
  • Loved by All: Despite her dimness, her entire class is heartbroken by her being fired. She also seemed to have no enemies in the Future Foundation, and was in fact one of the few liked by residents jerks Kyosuke and Juzo.
  • Manchild: Womanchild, that is. Her first thought of being an adult is she doesn't need to worry about bed times.
  • Morality Pet: For Kyosuke and Juzo, who are both pretty shaken up at her death.
  • Nice Girl: Despite her flaws, Chisa is perhaps the sweetest characters in the cast, always trying to encourage people even if she's Innocently Insensitive about it.
  • Saying Too Much: She blabs about the Kamakura Project to Juzo while saying that it's supposed to be super secret. Thankfully for her, Juzo was one of the only two people she was allowed to tell.

Kyosuke Munakata

Voiced by: Foehammer

  • Ambiguously Bi: He's an Official Couple with Chisa, but when Juzo offers to suck his dick, he takes him up on it.
  • Badass Normal: Has no combat-related talent, yet he still kicks ass with his katana.
  • It's All About Me: He makes Byakuya look like a paragon of selflessness. How self-centered is he? He plans to eradicate everyone in the world but him.
  • Jerkass: Oh so very much. Kyoko even compares him directly to Byakuya.
  • Narcissist: He clearly believes he's the most perfect person in existence.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: He's still self-centered in Side:Despair, but not nearly as homicidal as he is in Side:Future.

Juzo Sakakura

Voiced by: Emperor Takashi

Ruruka Ando

Voiced by: BblackRoses

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She looks adorable, but she's utterly heartless.
  • Freudian Excuse: Briefly mentions that her parents used to yell at her. It doesn't justify a single thing.
  • It's All About Me: To the extreme. She straight-up doesn't care about taking a potion away from starving children, wishes Seiko would eat her candy even if she died from it, and blames Seiko for letting Ruruka walk all over her.
  • Jerkass: Besides blatantly guilt-tripping and emotionally manipulating Seiko in their 'friendship', she outright dismisses the plight of starving children as "they'll get over it" and becomes verbally abusive when she thinks Seiko 'betrayed' her.
  • Lack of Empathy: Doesn't care at all that the potion she wants from Seiko was intended to help starving children in Africa.
  • Manipulative Bitch: When Seiko hesitates to help her cheat in her exam, Ruruka immediately starts guilt-tripping her by reminding her they're friends, right? And surely if Seiko really cared, she'd help her out.
  • Never My Fault: Refuses to acknowledge her role in her 'friendship' with Seiko going south, blaming the other girl entirely for it. She also blames Seiko for her failing her exam, even though she's the one who felt the need to cheat in the first place.

Sonosuke Izayoi

Voiced by: Otaku.D Furiku

  • Silent Snarker: He rarely talks, but his internal comments on the situation are very deadpan and sarcastic.

Seiko Kimura

Voiced by: InsomniacVA

Kazuo Tengan

Voiced by: LabRat

  • Dirty Old Man: He constantly hits on Kyoko and shamelessly admits he has six restraining orders. Apparently he's got over half a dozen ex-wives, too, who may very well have filed said restraining orders.
  • Lack of Empathy: He pushes Hajime to become Izuru Kamukura, says he's glad Makoto saved the Remnants "because all the green we sunk into the Kamukura Project is still alive", and he doesn't care at all about the student council's slaughter—he just says he feels sorry for the janitor who had to clean it up.

Ryota Mitarai

Voiced by: Ryu PrimeVA

Koichi Kizakura

Voiced by: Cpt. Falcon

  • The Alcoholic: He's been hungover in every single one of his appearances, and the reason Chisa became Class 77's teacher was because he needed to go to rehab.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He's constantly hungover, so he's also constantly talking about and imagining things that aren't really happening.

Miaya Gekkogahara

Voiced by: BblackRoses

Yasuhiro Hagakure

Voiced by: Emperor Takashi

Monaca Towa

Voiced by: Janna C

     Side:Despair Cast

Hajime Hinata/Izuru Kamukura

Voiced by: Hibikikuraii, IvanMan64

  • Baritone of Strength: Izuru has the second-deepest voice of the cast, only coming behind Sonosuke, and retains all his canon talents.
  • Brutal Honesty: The first time they meet, Izuru verbally flays Junko as a pretentious, delirious skank.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He makes a snarky comment practically every time he appears on screen.
  • Dissonant Serenity: As per canon, Izuru maintains a bored and calm expression throughout Junko's antics and the First Killing Game.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Izuru has a much deeper voice than Hajime and is an apathetic, multi-talented genius who agrees to let Junko show him despair just to sate his boredom.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Hajime desperately wants to be someone talented and special, so much so that he joined the Kamukura Project for it.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Hajime talks a lot about how great he is, but it's clearly just to cover up his insecurity about his lack of a talent.
  • It Amused Me: Zigzagged. Junko sets up the First Killing Game to entertain Izuru, but it fails to do so; he keeps a bored expression on and even lampshades the trope by thinking to himself "am I amused yet?". He only finds one interesting thing about it, and that's almost being shot rather than the rampant chaos and death.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: AKA the entire reason behind his complex.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: Hajime starts kissing up to Natsumi the second he learns her brother is an Ultimate, hoping she has a way to get him into the Main Course. He drops it as soon as she tells him otherwise.
  • Sherlock Scan: While he's getting beaten up by Juzo, Hajime's able to pick out that he used to be bullied in the past and has questions about his sexuality, from how hard Juzo's projecting on him, and uses it as an Armor-Piercing Question.
  • The Unfavorite: An off-hand comment suggests he has a brother named Jim that his mom favors more.

Chiaki Nanami

Voiced by: Mina VA

  • Adaptational Personality Change: She's a lot different from her canon counterpart, to say the least.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She's not happy when Hajime mentions Natsumi.
Hajime: Really? That's great! 'Cause there's this girl—
    (soundtrack screeches to a halt)
    Chiaki: Girl?
  • Covert Pervert: She wonders what Hajime's ass looks like when doped up on the aphrodisiac, and only agrees to becoming class rep in exchange for said aphrodisiac. Episode 4 has her grumbling about not missing his "tight ass", so apparently she's been stealing glances at it.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: At first she dismisses her classmates as just weird, but after an episode bonding with them, admits they aren't so bad after all.
  • Gamer Girl: But of course.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Her subplot in Despair 2 revolves around this.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She can be foul-mouthed and clingy, but she still tries to cheer Hajime up about his lack of talent, telling him that being a good person is really all the matters. She also steps in to protect Hiyoko from Teruteru's Attempted Rape.
  • No Social Skills: Straight-up admits games are the only way she knows how to bond with people.
  • Only Sane Woman: She and Fuyuhiko are the sanest of their classmates, and also lack Hajime's huge complex about talent.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Fires off several different curses in her first appearance. Every time she opens her mouth, in fact, you can usually count on a cuss of some kind leaving it.
  • Tsundere: For Hajime. After he leaves, she has several internal monologues where she yells at him for disappearing without a word and claims she doesn't care about him, right before she starts crying.
“Well, I HATE YOU TOO HINATA! ...Just...come back, you jerk...”

Nagito Komaeda

Voiced by: LabRat

  • Ambiguously Gay: He seems to be quite appreciative of Izayoi's looks when they briefly meet.
  • Knight Templar: Just like canon, he tries to and succeeds in blowing up the school's gym to postpone the exams.
  • Love Freak: Hope freak, that is, but he truly wants help hope to shine by whatever means necessary.
  • The Pollyanna: Is perpetually and disturbingly cheerful.
  • Purple Prose: He talks like a normal high school student most of the time, but suddenly shifts into this whenever it comes to hope.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After Yukizome comes back to her class, Jin Kirigiri says he hasn't been seen since, so he takes the stance to assume he's dead.

Mahiru Koizumi

Voiced by: Mina VA

  • Everyone Has Standards: She's disturbed by the possibility of Sato killing Natsumi, although it's hard to tell whether it's because she believes killing is wrong or because women killing other people is wrong.
  • Straw Feminist: Everything she says has to do with the evilness of men. Fuyuhiko comments that it's going to get annoying fast, and Natsumi lampshades it by calling her "Tumblr Girl".

Hiyoko Saionji

Voiced by: Hikari VA

  • Card-Carrying Jerkass: In Side:Despair Episode 2.
Hiyoko: (thinking) God, I'm such a bitch. And I love it!
  • Deadpan Snarker: Fantastically so. She spends pretty much all her time slamming others.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu

Voiced by: Jerry Freeman

  • Amicable Exes: He's on a break with Peko, but they still get on well. The only time he gets irritated is when she tries to hit on him.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He's tied with Hiyoko for 'snarkiest class member'.
Fuyuhiko: (after listening to a Nagito rant) Is everyone here a brain-dead monkey?
Gundham: I am the lord of hamsters!
    Fuyuhiko: I guess so.
  • Only Sane Man: He shares this role with Chiaki.

Peko Pekoyama

Voiced by: BeatTheErix

  • Amicable Exes: She and Fuyuhiko are still good friends, although she clearly wants to get back together with him.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: Downplayed, but she still comes onto Fuyuhiko despite them being on a break.
  • The Stoic: She's not one for showing emotion.

Gundham Tanaka

Voiced by: ThomasEdge4Life

  • Chuunibyou: Declares himself 'lord of hamsters' in complete seriousness, and acts as dramatic as ever.
  • Large Ham: He wouldn't be Gundham otherwise.

Nekomaru Nidai

Voiced by: Otaku.D Furiku

  • Manchild: He has the mentality of someone way younger than a high school student. To quote him word-for-word: "My mom says I shouldn't take strange drinks from strangers!" He also doesn't get what's going on when he's aroused by "boob-lady".

Mikan Tsumiki

Voiced by: BblackRoses

Kazuichi Soda

Voiced by: Loftwing1000

Teruteru Hanamura

Voiced by: LabRat

  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: He made an aphrodisiac that he was planning to use at a party, and is easily bought off with a swimsuit cover of Sayaka Maizono.

The Imposter

Voiced By: Ryu PrimeVA

Junko Enoshima

Voiced by: Trinity Santos

  • Adaptational Jerkass: While her treatment of Mukuro wasn't exactly nice in canon, her abusive remarks in this series are almost constant in comparison. Episode six shows her thoroughly expressing that she genuinely hates her rather than it being from her warped view of love.
  • Affectionate Nickname: With her roundabout way of love for her sister, "Mucky Butt" is the closest thing to this trope she can really provide to Mukuro.
  • Big Bad: Naturally.
  • Big Brother Bully: Inverted. She's the younger twin and a constant source of abuse and vitriol to her sister.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: She describes herself as the ultimate seeker of despair and hatred.
  • Character Catchphrase: Whenever Mukuro interrupts her narration:
    "BITCH! I WASN'T FINISHED!" ...
  • Depraved Bisexual: She flirts with Ryota, Izuru, and Mikan all in the same episode, which just means she gets to direct her psychotic nature and despair fetish to both genders.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: While her punk personality did this a lot, this is how her default personality communicates.

Mukuro Ikusaba
