Outlaws

    In General
  • Balance, Power, Skill, Gimmick:
    • Serra is the Balanced, having normal stats in all until she obtains the Bowgun as her starting weapon.
    • Nigel is the Skill, whose attack requires positioning due to starting out weaker and with a slower fire rate but with 5 piercing, and is outright stated to be a technical character.
    • Ollin is the Power, having a slower fire rate but lowered cooldowns and his Mighty Mezcal Staff's special ability shoots cacti balls that deal double damage and explode into smaller shots.
    • Roger is the Gimmick, being the risk-reward character who starts with lower health but higher critical chance, and his Golden Loaded Die allows him to get an extra slot option that will be rare or better.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief:
    • Serra is the Thief, being the Defector from Decadence who has the fastest fire rate and long range who's best played as a kiting professional.
    • Nigel is the Fighter, being the heroic Sheriff with limited range that can hit groups of enemies.
    • Ollin is the Mage, being a desert spirit with lowered cooldowns on all his cooldown-based effects, including the special ability of his Mighty Mezcal Staff.
    • Natoko is a Fighter/Thief hybrid, having increased speed and an ability that makes him attack much faster at close-range, but slower at longer range.
  • One-Man Army: They're capable of taking down armies of bounty hunters.
  • Physical, Mystical, Technological:
    • Physical: Nigel's weapon is a shuriken thrown with might and skill. Roger's weapons are his own Feather Flechettes. Jody's weapons are throwing knives.
    • Mystical: Ollin is a ghost with a staff that allows him to cast cactus magic.
    • Technological: Serra wields a crossbow gun. R0B3RT is a robot with a mechanical turret and nail gun. Madlyn wields a custom-made scrap-shooting gun.
    • Multiple: Natoko is a cross between Physical and Mystical, as he wields a sword that he reforged with his own hatred.
    Serra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bountyofoneserra.png
Orphaned at a young age, Serra quickly learned that she had a proficiency in bows and crossbows. Working as a bounty hunter, she soon became a hitwoman serving the Undertaker but eventually grew tired of and deserted from her villainous ways, especially when her blood sister Madlyn got caught up in it. Unfortunately, the Undertaker doesn't let those who know too much about him leave so easily, and so he placed a bounty on her. Her legendary item is the Bowgun, which increases her fire rate to 2x over 10 seconds if she stays still, but quickly resets if she moves.
  • Defector from Decadence: Was once a hitwoman for the Undertaker, but defected after being tired of her villainous ways. Unfortunately, the Undertaker isn't keen on deserters, especially one who knows too much.
  • Gathering Steam: Her unlockable weapon the Bowgun allows her to increase her firing rate up to 2x as long over a period of 10 seconds as she stands still, but the meter quickly drains if she moves. The charge-up period can be shortened with Cooldown upgrades.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Used to work for the Undertaker, but defected from her unscrupulous ways.
  • Hunter Of Her Own Kind: She's a goblin who defected from and fights against the Undertaker and his minions. This includes having to kill the other goblins she once worked with.
  • More Dakka: Her unlockable item, the Bowgun gives her an increasing fire rate (up to 2x) as long as she stays still.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: The reason why the Undertaker put a bounty on her was due to her defection, especially after she knew a lot about him.
    Nigel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bountyofonenigel.png
A valiant sheriff who helped people in need. Upon finding out about the Undertaker, he attempted to stop the threat, but was ambushed, left for dead, and had his Sheriff position taken over by his Arch-Nemesis Crazy Denzel. After being saved by a Hidden Elf Village, he learned the ways of the Sheriffken and now seeks to bring the Undertaker to justice. His legendary item is the Sheriffken, which pierces up to 5 enemies but returns to the user after a set distance.
  • Cassandra Truth: After being saved by the Hidden Elf Village, he warned the elders about the danger posed by the Undertaker, but they did not listen to him. Shortly after, the Undertaker found the village thanks to a traitor from said village in his ranks, and razed it.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Would always come to the aid of anyone who needed it. This led to him attempting to take on the Undertaker by himself, and was set up and left for dead by him.
  • Close-Range Combatant: His Sheriffken returns back to him after a short distance, meaning that he needs to go closer to enemies to damage them. He can increase his range by picking Area Size upgrades upon level-up.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Was on the receiving end of one by the Undertaker when he tried to take the villain on, thanks to being ambushed by Crazy Denzel.
  • Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: A Cowboy Ninja who throws piercing shurikens.
  • One-Hit Polykill: His Sheriffken comes with 5 piercing, allowing one projectile to hit enemies 5 times before disappearing.
  • Precision-Guided Boomerang: His Sheriffkens home back in to him after moving a short distance, but can pierce up to five enemies.
  • The Sheriff: Was the sheriff of a small town called Greenhill until the Undertaker left him for dead and installed his Arch-Nemesis Crazy Denzel as the new Sheriff there.
    Ollin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bountyofoneollin.png
Tales and rumors recount the sightings of Ollin, a childlike desert spirit who aids those lost in the desert and wields an artifact of great power — the Mighty Mezcal Staff. Ollin is indeed real, and the Undertaker is very interested in his artifact's power. As such, he placed a bounty on Ollin's head to obtain it personally. His legendary item is the Mighty Mezcal Staff, which reduces fire rate but grants a cactus ball cooldown ability that deals 2x damage and splits into a spread of projectiles.
  • Cheerful Child: A very childlike spirit who sees the bounty hunters as a fun game of "Tag, you're it!".
  • Children Are Innocent: While Ollin isn't a child, he does have the mentality and innocence of one. He views the Bounty Hunters trying to catch and kill him as nothing but a game of tag that's more fun than usual.
  • Floating Limbs: His arms and legs are all disconnected from his body. Justified, as he's a spirit.
  • Good Samaritan: Travelers mention that he wanders the desert, and only appears in front of lost, thirsty travelers to aid them.
  • Green Thumb: His Mighty Mezcal Staff gives him cactus-based powers like shooting cactus spikes and even firing balls of cacti that explode into spreads of spines.
  • Magic Staff: His weapon is the Mighty Mezcal Staff, which allows him to shoot cactus balls that deal double damage and explode into a spray of spines.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Ollin is a desert spirit who roams the desert to help lost souls, and also carries great power with the Mighty Mezcal Staff.
  • Shrouded in Myth: Much of Ollin is told in rumours by people who were saved by him but often dismissed as thirst- or delirium- induced hallucinations. Turns out, he is the real deal, but unfortunately the Undertaker knows this too and seeks to acquire Ollin's staff.

    Natoko
An elf ninja who saved Nigel, and whose brother Anoki trained Nigel in the Sheriffken. Shortly after saving Nigel, his Hidden Elf Village was found by the villains thanks to a former elf village traitor named Sasuto, razed by the Undertaker, with Anoki dying in the process. He swears revenge on the Undertaker ever since, reforging his brother's sword using his own anger and hate. His legendary item is the Dark Revenge, which increases his attack speed up to 3x if he's close to enemies, but drops it down to 1/3 if he's far from them.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Even though his attack is ranged, his unique item "Dark Revenge" makes him attack 3x as fast if he's near an enemy, but 1/3 as fast if he's too far from one, thus encouraging him to take enemies out at close range.
  • Doomed Hometown: Part of his motivation is to avenge his village, which got razed by the Undertaker.
  • Fragile Speedster: Downplayed. He has the same health as other characters and increased speed, however, his Close-Range Combatant playstyle requires him to put himself at risk of damage by being very near enemies.
  • Ninja: A ninja elf from a Hidden Elf Village who saved Nigel.
  • Ninja Log: Drops a log at the start of every dash.
  • Ninja Run: His movement animation has him run with his body tilted forward and both arms stretched behind him, while he makes short and fast steps.
  • Our Elves Are Different: This one is a ninja elf.
  • The Power of Hate: Reforged his brother's broken sword with his own hate and anger, turning it into his signature item Dark Revenge.
  • Revenge: His primary motive is to take revenge on the Undertaker, who massacred his Hidden Elf Village.
  • Say My Name: It turns out that the second Goblin Deputy is Sasuto, the traitor who helped the Undertaker find and raze the elf village. When he appears on the screen, both Natoko and Sasuto will shout each others' names out in speech bubbles.
  • Sword Beam: His projectile attacks are small blasts fired out from his katana.

    Roger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bounty_of_one_roger.png
Hey there, wanna buy something?
The head of Greenhill's Black market, Roger was cunning and greedy, finding ways to procure information and a go-to contact to those seeking unusual wares. Often at odds with then-sheriff Nigel, he evaded serious issues by refraining from arming others. Even when Nigel was deposed, his work in the shadows put him below the Undertaker's radar... until he was caught secretly selling goods to the outlaws, and thus had a bounty placed on his head. Roger now allies with the heroes he once profited from. His Legendary Item is the Golden Loaded Die, which grants him an extra slot on upgrades and items that will always be rare or better.
  • Badass Armfold: His walking animation has him fold his arms as he struts.
  • Black Market: He runs one of these, selling questionably legal wares.
  • Feather Fingers: His wings appear to be more like feathered arms and hands.
  • Feather Flechettes: Attacks by throwing razor feathers at enemies.
  • Friend in the Black Market: Runs the Black Market as a Macrogame, requiring gold coins obtained after gameplay runs to buy his items.
  • Friendly Shopkeeper: Despite being a greedy and crafty black market owner, he's still quite friendly towards the player.
  • Instant Roast: His death animation shows him turning into roasted vulture.
  • Lethal Joke Character: With only 1 starting HP, less attack rate than Serra, and no offensive special ability, Roger seems like a joke at first. However, his Golden Loaded Die not only gives him one extra selection choice for both items and upgrades, but also makes that extra choice rare or better, allowing him to have much more optimized and slightly less luck-dependent stat- and item- building. This in turns allows him to snowball fast with stats and items, including patching up his low health.
  • Luck Manipulation Mechanic:
    • His wares include the Lucky Star and Four Leaf Clover that allow you to have a chance of getting extra choices of upgrades or items in boxes respectively, while the Loaded Die and Fated Die give you rerolls for upgrades and items respectively.
    • In gameplay, he starts out with the Golden Loaded Die, which not only gives him an innate extra choice for upgrades and items, but any option in that slot is guaranteed to be rare or better.
  • Macrogame: The Black Market works like this, allowing you to spend the gold obtained from runs to buying permanent upgrades that affect your future runs.
  • Magikarp Power: As a playable character, he starts out with slightly less attack rate than Serra, no special offensive abilities, and only one HP, making him seem like a Joke Character. However, his Golden Loaded Die not only gives him an extra option on upgrades and loot, but also guarantees said option to be rare or better, allowing him to build his stats (including his lacking HP) faster and have a higher chance to get good items — including the other outlaws' unique items.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Only has 1 HP initially, unless the Metal Plate is purchased in the Black Market.
  • Skill Point Reset: He allows you to reset your spent gold coins for free.
  • Vile Vulture: Zig-Zagged. He is one of the only benevolent NPCs in the game and can be unlocked as a playable character, but he also runs a Black Market and is a greedy, crafty person.

    R0B3RT
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bounty_of_one_robert.png
Robert was a human inventor who developed resource-intensive steampunk technology to improve the lives of people, and Robert needed a donor to fund him. That donor happened to be The Undertaker, and Robert was forced to develop technologies for the villain. Knowing that he couldn't concentrate on his humanitarian project, Robert performed Brain Uploading into a robot, feigning death to escape the Undertaker. Now known as R0B3RT, he seeks to complete the first step of his grand plan by taking out his former benefactor. His legendary item is the Steamtech Turret, which places a stationary turret that attacks independently and slightly faster than you, but cuts your fire rate by half.
  • Brain Uploading: Performed this on himself as he knew that his plans would take a long time to fruition, and thus uploaded his consciousness into a robot to dispose his mortal body.
  • Cyber Cyclops: Appears to have only one "eye" on his face.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: At first glance, Steamtech Turret seems like a liability — it attacks 1.3x as fast as you do, but having it divides your attack rate by 2, meaning that it attacks at 65% the normal rate. Furthermore, it cannot be moved and its shots do not Lead the Target while moving slowly enough enemies can sidestep its shots by walking. However, the turret allows you to defy Do Not Run with a Gun, so you can take items like Thunder Dance, Seismic Dance, and dash-based abilities (which all do not use fire rate) and still keep up the attack. As for the shot speed, simply picking up Far Sight drastically increases its accuracy at long ranges thanks to doubling it. Finally, the turret does get any extra shot benefits and has its own shared cooldowns with Big Bertha and Mighty Mezcal Staff, allowing R0B3RT to potentially shoot twice the amount of cactus balls.
  • Do Not Run with a Gun: Played with. His Steamtech Turret fires the same shots as the player, including effects like 180 No Scope, Three Is The Magic Number, Big Bertha, Mighty Mezcal Staff, etc. even while he is moving. This makes him one of two characters who can fire shots while moving, albeit not from his own self.
  • Forced into Evil: To carry out his expensive research, he found a man of generous wealth to act as his donor. Unfortunately, said man was The Undertaker, who forced him to develop weapons for him and his evil army.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Was the greatest genius the world knew, back when he was still human, using his intellect to develop Steampunk technologies — including his current robot body as well as his turret.
  • Nail 'Em: His basic weapon is a nail gun that shoots nails at his enemies.
  • Scientist vs. Soldier: Robert was the scientist who developed steam tech to help the lives of others, but required a donor. That donor was The Undertaker, who as repayment forced Robert into developing weapons and technology for him and his army.
  • Steampunk: Most of his technology is steam-powered, including his turret.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: As a human, his name was Robert, which sounds similar to robot. He's a Gadgeteer Genius who eventually performed a Brain Uploading to a robot, now named R0B3RT.
  • The Turret Master: His Legendary Item Steamtech Turret places down a turret that attacks independently of the player at 1.3x the fire rate, allowing R0B3RT to be the only character who can fire their basic attack while moving. However, the player's fire rate is divided by 2, and the turret can't be moved.

    Madlyn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/madlyn.png
An Greenhill orphan who was Serra's blood sister and followed her unscrupulous footsteps in order to survive, earning a name for herself. However, when the Undertaker came to Greenhill, Serra pushed Madlyn away but in reality she wanted to protect her from the Undertaker. This only broke Madlyn's heart and caused her to join the Undertaker out of spite, becoming Serra's rival. After Serra left, Madlyn, feeling empty without her, left the Undertaker's forces and similarly got a bounty on her head. She now fights together with the other outlaws and her own blood sister to take down the Undertaker. Her Legendary Item is the Scrap Gun, which allows her to charge a Spread Shot for every 2 meters walked.
  • Charged Attack: Her Legendary Item is a collect-type, allowing her to charge up to 3 stacks by walking, and then fire out all of them on her next attack in a Spread Shot.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Like Serra, she used to work for the Undertaker at one point, but defected from her unscrupulous ways.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: Her Scrap Gun allows her playstyle to function like this, by running around to stock up on scrap, she can then unleash a spray of shots on her next attack.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Madlyn starts out with an extra speed boost, but a malus of -0.5 fire rate. However, her Scrap Gun ability pairs up well with this weakness, allowing her to quickly move around to charge stocks, then unleash all the stocks in a spread attack, with each shot dealing the same damage as a normal shot.
  • Morality Pet: For Serra. The reason why Serra quit the Undertaker's service was because she didn't want to see her blood sister go down a dark path with the Undertaker.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: Like with Serra, the Undertaker put a bounty on her head after she left his forces due to her knowing too much.
  • The Rival: Became one to Serra after she joined the Undertaker's forces out of spite.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: A Quantity vs. Quality example: When it comes to weapon proficiency, Serra was good at precision, while Madlyn made up for her shortcoming by building a weapon that allowed her to fire quantities of shots.
  • Spread Shot: Every stack of scrap in Madlyn's weapon will allow her to fire a spray burst of scrap, with 2 extra shots per stack.

    Jody
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bounty_of_one_jody.png
Jody was a young Dwarf when she was thrust into the horrifying and senseless Dwarven Wars, earning her moniker of "Red Scorpion" for her ruthlessness and red braid. When the war ended, she vowed never to wield a weapon again, settling down in Greenhill as a medic to find peace, even gaining a crush on the then-Sheriff Nigel. Unfortunately, Jody was forced to take up arms again and fight for her town when the Undertaker took over and (seemingly) disposed of Nigel. Her Legendary Item is the Dancing Daggers, which stacks 2 knives per shot but cuts your attack speed to 50% when the player is stationary. When moving, the stacked knives are unleashed at 150% attack speed.
  • Charged Attack: Collect-type. When firing while stationary, the player gains 2 knives each. When moving, these knives will be thrown at nearby enemies.
  • Do Not Run with a Gun: The second character to avert this trope. Her Legendary item gives you stacks of knives when you fire while stationary, and the player uses these to fire at enemies at an increased rate while moving.
  • Flechette Storm: With knife stacks, Jody can fire knives at 150% of her fire rate while moving. Three items that depict Jody on them also do this, Knife Volley (fires a Spread Shot of knives at the end of a dash), Panic Attack (throws 3 knives in random directions per 4 meters walked) and Sharing is Caring (increases your fire rate by 50% but lowers shot velocity, and you now distribute attacks towards the 5 closest enemies).
  • Square Race, Round Class: She's essentially a ninja dwarf whose specialty is knife throwing.

Enemies and Bosses

    Bounty Hunters and Deputies
  • Antepiece: The developers have mentioned that the Hounds, Armarauders, Mole Men and Bully Brawlers use attacks similar to their Sheriffs, giving the player a taste and hint of what they'll be up against so they'll be able to avoid the respective Sheriffs' attacks better.
  • Anthropomorphic Transformation: Sssash used to be a regular snake with strong magical potential before a Brainsucker parasite got her and transformed her into a snakeperson-like Brainsucker.
  • Arms and Armor Theme Naming: One of the Orc Deputies is named Smith, and another is named Wesson.
  • Bat People: The Undertaker's runner minions are humanoid foes that appear to be a cross between bats and rats, with the face of a bat but the tail of a rat. They're officially called "Bat-men", however.
  • Bounty Hunter: All of them are after the bounty that the Undertaker placed on the player characters' heads.
  • Brutish Bulls: The Bully Brawlers are Funny Animal bulls that attack by charging at the player, leaving damaging quake explosions in their wake.
  • Cthulhumanoid: Brainsuckers are Illithid-expies that usually sport tentacled faces, although some may have a different head.
  • Dishing Out Dirt:
    • Orcs have a Shockwave Stomp attack that they use at the end of a charge, causing a damaging area quake.
    • Bully Brawlers cause a mini earthquake whenever they charge, producing damaging areas of cracked ground as they do so.
  • The Ditz: The Armarauders are know to be rather dimwitted, and in fact the dumbest of them tend to be the leaders. This did make them Too Dumb to Fool for the Undertaker's usual cunning, who had to resort to a Loophole Abuse in order to take control of them.
  • Evil Knockoff: The Darkins were created in Ollin's image by the Undertaker in order to seek out the Mezcal Staff.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief:
    • They're split up into three categories: Goblins, Chargers, and Darkins being the Thief, Fighter and Mage respectively. Goblins are the fastest but the flimsiest and use their speed to run after you, Chargers are slow but have a lot of health and can use a charging attack from mid-range, and Darkins often stick at the back lines while firing ranged attacks.
    • The Undertaker's direct minions replace the Goblins, Chargers and Darkins with Bats, Orcs, and Brainsuckers respectively. The Bat People gain a temporary boost in speed whenever others of their kind are killed, the Orcs have a charge move that ends with an area-damage Shockwave Stomp, and the Brainsuckers shoot slow-moving projectiles that linger on the screen for longer.
  • Golem: The first category of charger enemies are golems which are slow but have high HP and utilize a spinning charge attack. The three tiers from weakest to strongest are clay/sand, cactus, and stone. They were initially Greenhill's labor force until the Undertaker took control of them via their susceptibility to magic.
  • The Goomba: The weakest enemies in the game are the basic Goblins, who take two attacks to die. A single damage upgrade allows you to kill them instantly.
  • Hell Hound: Hounds are skeletal dogs that can fire their head out a moderate distance before returning to them.
  • Kill One, Others Get Stronger: Whenever Bat People are killed, all others of their kind (including Deputies) will speed up for a while.
  • King Mook: Deputies are Mini-Boss-level enemies that are souped-up versions of the basic foes.
  • Mini-Boss: Deputies serve as the game's minibosses, even sporting a Life Meter above their heads. They drop a loot chest upon death. They're even confirmed to have names — Green Shadow, Sasuto, and Sergeant Kurg for the Goblins, Georges, Peperino, and PickHead for the Golems, Owl Face, Red, and Ol' Jerry for the Mages, Diabo for the Hounds, and Darth Mole for the Mole Man.
  • Minor Major Character: It turns out that the second Goblin Deputy you face is Sasuto, the traitor who led the Undertaker's forces to Natoko's Hidden Elf Village and razed it to the ground. He goes down rather quickly and is forgotten after that.
  • Mole Men: Mole Men are moles that can dig underground to avoid long-range attacks and throw dynamite to hit an area after a bit of time.
  • Mooks: They are the various basic enemies faced in the game.
  • Our Orcs Are Different: The Undertaker's charger minions are orcs that wield weapons like pickaxes and hammers. They're not only capable of using a charge attack, but will also strike the ground with their weapon after doing so, causing an area shockwave.
  • Painfully Slow Projectile: Brainsuckers fire balls of energy that move very slowly compared to the regular mages' fireballs, allowing them to linger on screen for longer, and these projectiles grow in size over time. Not a danger if there's only a few on screen, but with several of them it can turn into a near-Bullet Hell.
  • Parasites Are Evil: The Brainsuckers are a parasitic alien race that take those with strong magical capability as hosts. Thanks to the Undertaker's powerful magical capabilities, they were easily drawn to him and enlisted in his service.
  • Playing with Fire: Darkins attack by throwing fireballs at the player.
  • Punny Name: The Deputy Mole is called Darth Mole and even sports Darth Maul's look with a red, tattooed face.
  • Resistant to Magic: The Armarauders are highly resistant to magic which means that The Undertaker couldn't control them via his Soul Power. He had to took advantage of their idiocy and find a loophole in their Challenging the Chief ritual to turn them over to their side.
  • Say My Name: It turns out that the second Goblin Deputy is Sasuto, the traitor who helped the Undertaker find and raze the elf village. When he appears on the screen, both Natoko and Sasuto will shout each others' names out in speech bubbles.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Darth Mole is one to Star Wars' Darth Maul, right down to having a black-tattooed red face.
    • One of the Orc Deputies is named Smith, and he wears a black suit just like the agent he shares his name with.
    • The name, costume and backstory of the Brainsucker deputy Dr. Weird is a huge shout out to Doctor Strange.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Sssash the Brainsucker deputy is not just the only female deputy, but is also one of two female enemies in the entire game alongside Ruth.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Sasuto easily managed to defeat Natoko's brother in the attack on the Hidden Elf Village. In-game, he's only the second goblin deputy and not a difficult fight. The devs mentioned that this is due to Natoko improving his skills between the events, surpassing his late brother.
  • Weak to Magic: As magical constructs, the Golems were susceptible to magical manipulation and The Undertaker's soul magic easily brought all of them under his control.
  • Wild West Armadillo: The Armarauders and their leader are Funny Animal armadillos in a western-style game.
    Rex, Cupcake and Brutus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bounty_of_one_rcb.png
Woof! Grrrrrh! Hu?
A three-headed skeletal Hell Hound who summons weaker clones of itself in battle. Originally the Undertaker's beloved pet Hell Hound, old age claimed its life, and The Undertaker's attempts to bring his pet back led him to spiral down a darker path. Despite this, Rex, Cupcake and Brutus is still loyal to him even in death. Leader of the Hounds.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: They are capable of creating weaker clones of themselves in the fight, all sporting the same attack capabilities but with only 2000 HP each.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Downplayed. While Rex and Brutus are threatening dog names appropriate for a skeletal Hell Hound, the middle head is named Cupcake and is a pug's skull.
  • Flunky Boss: Every time they reach certain health thresholds, a clone of them will spawn in with the same attacks as the boss but much lower health.
  • Hell Hound: A huge, three-headed, flaming skeletal dog.
  • King Mook: To the Hounds, being their leader and all. Unlike the basic Hounds and the Deputy, he has three heads that can be fired out in succession.
  • Leitmotif: "Ghost Hound" is the track that plays during his boss battle.
  • Morality Chain: In life, the three-headed dog was the Undertaker's beloved pet, and his love for his dog was one of his very few redeeming traits. Unfortunately, it grew old and passed away, causing the Undertaker to resort to forbidden magic to bring it back, permanently pushing him over the deep end.
  • Odd Name Out: Cupcake is an adorable dog name compared to Rex's and Brutus's threatening names.
  • Right-Hand Attack Dog: Even in death, it still serves as one of the Undertaker's most trusted sheriffs.
  • Self-Duplication: Has the ability to spawn weaker copies of itself as it takes damage.
    Simple Tom
A dimwitted Wild West Armadillo who's a master in the art of rolling. Originally the chief of the Armarauders, he lost his position after The Undertaker beat him in a roll-off competition via a loophole, and is now a Sheriff of the Undertaker. Leader of the Armarauders.
  • Appropriated Appellation: His new moniker that the Undertaker gave him is a pun on "Simpleton" and is supposed to be an insult. Being The Ditz, he doesn't realize it's an insult and is in fact proud of it.
  • Bullfight Boss: His fight consists of dodging his Rolling Attack until he becomes dizzy from it, turning into an opportune moment for the player to attack him.
  • Circling Birdies: Two stars circle around his head whenever he becomes dizzy from rolling around enough.
  • The Ditz: The biggest, strongest Armarauder and also the least intelligent. He doesn't even realize that his new moniker of "Simple Tom" is actually an insult and is proud of it.
  • Large and in Charge: He's way bigger than any of his minions.
  • Leitmotif: "Shot The Sheriff" is the track that plays during his boss battle.
  • Rolling Attack: His one method of attack is to chase after you a bit, then curl into a ball and bounce off the edges of the screen. Every time he hits the edge, he spawns a Spread Shot of scale projectiles.
  • Spread Shot: Each time he hits the edge and bounces off, he also spawns a spread of three scale projectiles.
  • Stock Animal Behavior: Curling up into a ball and rolling at you.
  • Wild West Armadillo: A Funny Animal armadillo sheriff with a cowboy hat.
    Crazy Denzel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bounty_of_one_denzel.png
A Mad Bomber mole man who uses excessive amounts of explosives. Denzel started out as Nigel's ineffectual nemesis before he joined the Undertaker. After helping The Undertaker plan an ambush that left his arch-enemy for dead, he got promoted to The Undertaker's right-hand man and the new Sheriff of Greenhill. Leader of the Mole Men.
  • Arch-Enemy: He escaped from Nigel and later on helped the Undertaker ambush him, and has now taken over Nigel's place as the Sheriff of Greenhill.
  • Bottomless Magazines: He doesn't ever seem to run out of dynamite.
  • Death by Irony: He's a Mad Bomber whose fate upon defeat is getting blown up by the explosives he dropped at his feet.
  • The Dragon: After helping the Undertaker ambush Nigel and leave him for dead, he got promoted to the Undertaker's right-hand man.
  • Easy Level Trick: His first attack phase can be easily avoided by staying in two specific blind spots diagonal to him, where the explosions cannot hit you.
  • Eye Pop: Upon defeat, when he realizes that the dynamite he dropped at his feet is about to explode, his eyes pop out downwards as he makes an Oh, Crap! expression.
  • Grenade Spam: His entire battle strategy involves throwing lots of dynamite around, way more than his coat looks like it should carry.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In a nearly-literal example, he goes out when the explosives he dropped at his feet explode him.
  • King Mook: To the Mole Men, being their leader and all. He's capable of throwing out far greater amounts of dynamite than his minions.
  • Leitmotif: "Dynamite Mole" is the track that plays during his boss battle.
  • Mad Bomber: A crazed, bomb-throwing mole man.
  • Mole Men: A Funny Animal mole who can dig underground like his kind.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Thanks to having connections with the Undertaker, he was appointed as Greenhill's new Sheriff despite being an obvious villain.
  • Shout-Out: His Catchphrase is "Hey, as long as it works!". This same quote is what the dynamite-throwing Jackal responded to Kenshiro in Fist of the North Star after the latter questioned him if throwing dynamite around was a martial art.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Like the other Mole Men, his favored combat strategy is throwing lots of dynamite.
  • Tunnel King: Not only can he dig underground really fast, he can also throw dynamite from underground while digging.
  • Tyrant Takes the Helm: Nigel used to be the respectable and honorable Sheriff of Greenhill. After Crazy Denzel helped the Undertaker defeat Nigel and left him for dead, he took over as the new Sheriff thanks to the Undertaker's connections and rules over Greenhill's people through fear.
    Ruthless Ruth
Having lived an orphan's life in poverty, Ruth took on several questionable jobs to earn her living to get where she is today — such as working as a Sheriff of the Undertaker. Despite her ruthlessness in combat, she's actually very caring towards her own minions, who view her as their mother. Leader of the Bully Brawlers.
  • Area of Effect: Her charge attacks cause wide-area earthquakes behind her. The flaming rocks she digs up produce a damaging area of flames that linger for a good while.
  • Benevolent Boss: Thanks to having felt the pain of abandonment, she made it her mission to create a sense of belonging for those who were similarly cast aside. She took in her kin and fellow orphans and even offered them protection and home. As such, her gang even considers her as their mother.
  • Boss Arena Urgency: Ruth often uses the flaming rocks attack which create several damaging Area of Effect zones that linger for a long while, eventually covering most of the arena to make dodging increasingly difficult.
  • Brutish Bulls: Zig-Zagged. While she's fierce and ruthless in combat, she actually acts like a kind and benevolent mother to her gang.
  • Bullfight Boss: Played in both the literal and trope sense. Her charge attacks are rather slow and predictable, leaving her open to attack when she charges. This is complicated by the lingering damaging areas produced by her flaming rocks attack.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her charge attacks cause damaging earthquakes and she can also dig up rocks from the ground that catch fire and leave a damaging, lingering Area of Effect.
  • Leitmotif: "Buffalo Brawl" is the track that plays during her boss battle.
  • Only in It for the Money: Thanks to her upbringing in poverty, she fought hard to earn her living, taking unsavory jobs to earn her pay. She works for the Undertaker because he pays well.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: She's a humanoid bull like the rest of the Bully Brawlers.
  • The Smurfette Principle: She's not just the one female Sheriff, but is also the only female enemy in the entire game aside from the Brainsucker Deputy Sssash.
  • Token Good Teammate: While she's still an antagonist thanks to working with the Undertaker for money, she's by far one of the nicest of the villains thanks to having her huge share of selfless motives, like providing shelter and family to orphans and outcasts.
    The Undertaker

You will Rest in Peace!
The villain of the game who placed the bounties on the player characters' heads. Once a respected necromancer, his use of the forbidden arts led to an all-consuming desire for power. He began to see the value of life as nothing more than a means to an end, eventually using his magic to control the spirits of his underlings. The Undertaker set his sights on becoming the underworld's boss, eliminating his rivals along the way and recruiting Greenhill's most dangerous criminals to secure his position of power.
  • Ambition Is Evil: His dabbling in the dark arts led him to realize that he could control the spirits of others to his bidding, leading to his thirst for power and setting his sights on becoming the undisputed boss of Greenhill's Underworld.
  • Big Bad: He's the one who placed the bounty on your characters' heads and is the Final Boss of the game. He's also personally involved in the lives of the playable characters.
  • Borrowin' Samedi: A top-hat wearing guy in a black coat, whose face is a literal skull with Villainous Cheekbones. He's also a necromancer with Soul Power.
  • Dem Bones: Was reduced to a living skeleton after his attempt at bringing his pet dog back also transformed him into an undead.
  • Evil Virtues: Despite being a despicable person, he did have one redeeming quality in the love for his pet Hell Hound. When it died, he resorted to dark magic to try and get it back.
  • Final Boss: He's the very last opponent in the game before Endless Mode, and one of the toughest.
  • Flaming Skulls: His skeletal head glows with blue-green fire.
  • Game-Over Man: The Defeat screen shows a shot of his head and two crossbows, accompanied by an Evil Laugh.
  • Hat of Authority: The leader of the villains who wears a hat that's even taller than Crazy Denzel's.
  • Hellish Horse: He rides a skeletal horse into battle. He's also capable of summoning more of them during his second phase to run across the screen.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: He uses a mix of Power, Material Benefits and Mind Control, using his cunning, powerful status, and wealth to recruit powerful henchmen like Crazy Denzel and (formerly) Robert, and soul control to make sure his minions keep in line.
  • King Mook: His first phase acts like a souped-up orc, performing charges at you and slamming the ground to create a large sized damaging area.
  • Lean and Mean: He's a very slender skeleton and an unpleasant Big Bad.
  • Leitmotif: "One More Grave" is the track that plays during his boss battle.
  • Loophole Abuse: The Armarauders' Challenging the Chief ritual is simple: Whoever can roll the furthest wins. However, their definition of "rolling" is defined by "curling up" and "moving"... so the Undertaker rides his skeletal horse while curled up on it to best the Armarauders' leader, Tom, and it was deemed a valid strategy by the not-too-bright Armarauders.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: His weapon is a cross between a shovel and a rifle.
  • Necromancer: He used to be one in life and still is one in death, and one of his more notorious acts was resurrecting his pet hellhound after it passed away.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite his vileness, he had a soft spot for his three-headed dog Rex, Cupcake and Brutus. When it died of old age, he resorted to much darker methods to get it back.
  • Reverse Shrapnel: In the second phase of his fight, he'll emit an orbiting and expanding spread of energy orbs from him a few times. Halfway though, however, they pause in midair and then orbit around him for a few seconds, before returning back to him (including those offscreen).
  • Soul Power: Befitting a necromancer, he has the ability to control souls and spirits. It's how he revived his pet hellhound, how he keeps his minions under control, and he can also summon spirit orbs that orbit him during his fight.
  • Spread Shot: His gun fires two shots in a V-shape aimed at you, which will miss a player that's standing still. However, during this attack phase, he also summons skeletal horses that run across 4/5ths of the screen, forcing you to dodge them and making it much easier to run into the dual bullets.
  • Stealth Insult: He gives Tom the new nickname of "Simple Tom", a play on Simpleton. Tom's dumb enough to not realize it's an insult and in fact loves this new name.
  • The Undead: Was formerly a living overlord until his use of necromancy to bring his hellhound back also turned him into a skeletal undead.
  • Villainous Cheekbones: The cheekbones on his skull are very high.
