Heron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/heron.png
Voiced by: Derek Phillips

The main character of the story, son of Electra and Zeus.

  • Bastard Angst: Holds no loyalty to the people in his polis over his mistreatment due to being a bastard. He also spends a significant amount of time angry at Zeus for not doing more to help him and his mother.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: A lot of his character development in the first series stems from letting go of his resentment towards his father, Zeus, for being absent for much of his and his mother's lives and failing to prevent her death.
  • Composite Character: He's a combination of multiple Demigod heroes from Greek Mythology, most notably Perseus and Herakles.
  • Heroic Bastard: Despite being understandably bitter over his mistreatment due to his uncertain lineage, Heron still proves himself a hero over the course of the story.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Is a very muscular man who dresses in very revealing clothes.
  • Multi Shot: His divine bow is capable of this.
  • Semi-Divine: As a demigod.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: His weapon of choice is a bow and arrow, primarily due to him being a hunter. In the final battle, a bow and arrow set created by Hephaestus.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Heron starts out as a capable archer and, through training and unlocking his godly powers, becomes a formidable fore on the battlefield.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: While not as skilled as Kofi, Heron is seen using some sweet Pankration moves both on human and demon opponents.

Electra

Voiced by: Mamie Gummer

Heron's mother and a disgraced queen.

  • Accidental Adultery: Zeus has an affair with her while impersonating her husband. Unlike most of the myths, the affair carries on for long enough that Electra is able to force Zeus to reveal his identity to her.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After years of abuse, Electra stabs Periander in the eye to prevent him from killing Heron.
  • Mama Bear: She killed her abusive husband to protect her son.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Electra's given a significant amount of character development and screen time before being killed by Seraphim at the end of episode 3.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: She's a good and loving mother, and probably the nicest character in the whole series. So she's of course killed by the Big Bad, Seraphim who is Ironically her firstborn son.

Alexia

Voiced by: Jessica Henwick

The Grand Archon of the Amazons who assists Heron in his fight against the demons.

Evios

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/evios_blood_of_zeus.jpg

A former smuggler that Heron meets while captured by the demons who gets caught up in his battle against Seraphim.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Makes a few witty remarks here and there.
  • Sour Supporter: Evios might complain whenever he has to do something heroic, but he'll still do it.
  • Those Two Guys: With Kofi, who he partnered up with some time before the start of the series.
  • Weapon Specialization: He's very proficient with a whip, first showing his skill with whips when he uses ropes on a boat to fight back against his demon captors. He later uses a Hephestus-made whip in the final battle.

Kofi

Voiced by: Adetokumboh M'Cormack

A former pit fighter and Evios' current partner in crime.

  • Badass Normal: Is the only mortal to get a hit in on Seraphim in the final battle. Seraphim overpowers him easily, but it disarms him of the cauldron at a key moment.
  • Gentle Giant: Easily one of the tallest of the human characters, but also very kind. Evios even comments on his size when facing the giants in the season finale.
  • Nice Guy: He's the more immediately approachable of the duo.
  • Those Two Guys: With Evios, who he partnered up with some time before the start of the series.
  • Token Minority: The only non-Greek character in the first season. He even lampshades it, noting that Evios was the only one to bet on him in Pankration because none of the other Greeks had seen him before.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: A three-time champion of the Pankration. Would have been four-time champion had there been an opponent for him.

    Gods

Zeus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zeus_blood_of_zeus.png
Voiced by: Jason O'Mara

The King of Olympus, God of Thunder, and Heron's father.

  • Adaptational Heroism: The Gods here are depicted as having more humanity than their mythological counterparts, with many of the mythological Zeus' more heinous acts against women being glossed over or omitted.
  • Animal Motifs: Eagles, as per mythology. He takes the form of one several times to spy on mortals.
  • Freudian Excuse: Acknowledges that he isn't a very good father and chalks it up to Kronos not giving him the greatest example.
  • God of Thunder: Like the myths, Zeus commands lightning.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Zeus sacrifices his life to save Hera during the battle with the Giants.
  • Hypocrite: Espouses that humans must make their own path, but frequently intervenes in his personal matters. To his credit he acknowledges it and it's mostly to try to make up for his mistakes.
  • Papa Wolf: He may be a philanderer who has numerous bastard children, but he genuinely cares about all of them.
  • Parents as People: On top of his many infidelities having incurred the wrath of Hera upon both him and his offspring. he admits to Heron that though he does care for his children he didn't exactly have a great role model himself and so struggles with directly parenting.
  • Shock and Awe: Naturally, Zeus is able to call down thunder at will.

Hera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hera_blood_of_zeus.png

The Queen of the Gods and Zeus' wife.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the original myths, Hera is famed for directing her legendary wrath towards the many lovers and illegitimate demigod children of her husband. However, she never goes quite as far as releasing the legendary enemies of the Olympians to destroy Olympus.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Seraphim cuts off her hand in the season 1 finale.
  • Animal Eye Spy: She watches the mortal world through the eyes of crows.
  • Animal Motifs: Crows.
  • Big Bad: Of the first season, as she backs Seraphim and later releases the Giants to destroy Olympus.
  • Bullet Dodges You: She uses her telekinesis to redirect fireballs launched at her army in episode 8.
  • Colour Motifs: Purple, showing her status as the Queen of Olympus and her influence.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Oh Hera, if Zeus had to convince two of the Giants into betraying their brethren, what made you think you could strong-arm them into working for you?
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: The Queen of the Gods, who mostly wears purple.
  • Hypocrite: She causes the deaths of so many people and has the gall to tell Zeus that it's all his fault for it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After causing war and bloodshed throughout Olympus over Zeus's cheating ways and causing pain and death with absolute glee, she is betrayed by Seraphim and the Giants, is forced to watch Zeus sacrifice himself to save her and realizes she still loves him in spite of everything, loses a hand, and is forced to retreat in disgrace.
  • Mind over Matter: Telekinesis is a regular power she uses throughout the series.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline Her dress shows a huge part of her boobs and stomach.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Quite so. Her dress is purple and she has telekinesis powers, which she isn't afraid to use against Zeus, of all people, and isn't afraid to lead a team of Giants and Demons against Olympus.
  • Woman Scorned: Oh, yes. She starts out attacking Zeus' lover and son as per usual but eventually takes her revenge on him, undermining him on Olympus and eventually trying to wage war on Olympus.

Ares

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ares_blood_of_zeus.png
Voiced by: Matt Lowe

The God of War and son of Zeus and Hera.

  • 24-Hour Armor: While all the gods wear armor when they expect battle, Ares is never seen wearing anything else.
  • Blood Knight: He IS the God of War after all.
  • Brutish Character, Brutish Weapon: Uses a giant maul as his primary weapon.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Initially he seems to want to help his father but after his offer is rejected by Zeus and he sees that a number of Olympians are as unhappy with his rule as Hera is, Ares sides with his mother.
  • Momma's Boy: Seems to favor his mother Hera, even willing to spy on Zeus for her.
  • Not So Stoic: He's usually restrained, but in battle he's a borderline berserker.
  • Perma-Stubble: Has a permanent five o'clock shadow.

Apollo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apollo_blood_of_zeus.png
Voiced by: Adam Croasdell

The God of Sunlight and son of Zeus.

  • Cool Big Bro: He accepts Heron as his brother with no hesitation. Being born out of wedlock like him probably helps him relate.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: One of the kinder gods of Olympus.
  • Heroic Bastard: When giving Heron the bow Hephaestus made, he comments "one bastard to another".
  • Nice Guy: One of the kindest Gods on Olympus. He's among few Gods who welcome Heron, and in the past he covered for his father when it seemed like Hera was going to discover him during an act of infidelity. During his time with Electra he makes no advances towards her, instead keeping her company with small talk and revealing to her that she's pregnant with Zeus' child.
  • Playing with Fire: as a Sun god, he can throw massive fireballs

Hermes

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hermes_blood_of_zeus.png
Voiced by: Matthew Mercer

Zeus' son and Ares and Apollo's half-brother, Hermes is the messenger of the Gods who guides souls to the underworld.

  • Blow You Away: So fast he can create whirlwinds.
  • Invisibility: He has this power, and uses it to spy on Hera at Zeus' behest.
  • Pet the Dog: He's the first to greet Heron on Olympus.
  • Psychopomp: Collects souls of the deceased.
  • Super-Speed: The fastest god on Olympus. Some of his maneuvers wouldn't be out of place in a Flash comic.

Poseidon

Voiced by: Chris Diamantopoulos

Zeus' brother and god of the ocean.

    Other Beings

Seraphim

As a Demon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seraphim_human_blood_of_zeus.png
As a Human
Voiced by: Elias Toufexis

A demon with a grudge against the gods.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Seraphim's death is played with some emotion. After it happens, Heron ends up holding his body and, when we cut to Seraphim in the underworld, he's forced into either a literal Hell or an ironic one. He's a ruthless murderer, but he really just cannot catch a break.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Seraphim is the strongest of the demons and keeps them in line with his sheer power.
  • Bad Boss: Kills one of his demon subordinates for being "weak" just because he lost one of his arms to Alexia.
  • Big "NO!": He lets one of these out when Hera informs him that the woman he casually murdered in episode 3 was his biological mother.
  • Cain and Abel: Is this to Heron who is his half-brother. He'd rather not fight him and Heron isn't eager to either, but Heron can't just stand aside and let him destroy the world.
  • Cool Sword: Uses a sword that would have been Heron's.
  • Cosmic Plaything: Is jerked around by gods, men, and Titans since the moment he was born and even after he dies, because he happened to be Heron's half-brother and the son of the king.
  • Demon of Human Origin: Originally a human man before consuming the flesh of a Giant, transforming him into the demon he is now.
  • The Dragon: Ends up being forced into serving as this for Hera.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: He resents having to work for Hera from the start. After realizing that Hera manipulated him he decides to work for himself again and kill the gods.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: He used to be a normal human hardened by a lifetime of struggle, to a superpowered maniac with a grudge against the gods.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He loved his adoptive mother dearly and her death alongside her sister set him on his path of darkness and vengeance, he was also devastated after discovering that Electra was his biological mother and that he had killed her and he show hints of loving Heron too despite their opposition.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He claims he’ll never kill a child.
  • Hypocrite: He's angry at the gods due to the suffering he endured in his life but he frequently inflicts similar suffering onto others.
  • Ironic Name: Doubly so: Seraphim are a kind of angel from Abrahamic religion/myth, but the character bearing the name here is a demon in a work based on Classical Mythology.
  • Kill the God: After discovering Zeus' part in the tragedies of his life and that Hera manipulated him he makes it his goal to kill all the gods so the things that happened to him, his brother, biological mother, adoptive mother and her sister can never happen again.
  • Mad Eye: He lost one of his eyes after an attack. When he ate the giant's flesh and was reborn as a demon, his eye was regenerated as well; just not like it was supposed to.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He has this reaction, when he finds out he killed his biological mother.
  • Never My Fault: Entirely blames the Gods for the death of Heron and his birth mother. While Hera does manipulate events that lead towards Electra's death, he is the one that kills her without any manipulation. Also, Hera was the only deity who manipulated the events that led to the deaths of Adrianna, her sister and eventually Electra.
  • Odd Name Out: In a world based on Classical Mythology, Seraphim's name is that of the highest choir of angels in The Bible and other Abrahamic texts.
  • Raised by Wolves: Other than his adoptive mother his only family and companions during his youth were a family of bears, with the mother having been his wet-nurse.
  • Revenge: His main motivation is to get revenge on his uncle Acrisius who tried to murder him while he was a baby and had his adoptive mother and her sister being killed, on nobles because they remind him of Acrisius, and later the gods for their manipulations and their responsibility in the tragedies he and his family suffered.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after everything Zeus did to help him as a child and showing him that it was Hera was truly behind his birth mother’s death, He still turned on Zeus.

The Titans

The dark deities that were once ruling the world before the Gods fought and defeated them. Despite having been long killed their legacy still remains as one of them is responsible for the creation of the Giants, and so indirectly of the demons that threaten the world today.
  • Abusive Parent: Just like in the Greek mythology Cronos ate nearly all of his children and Zeus had to freed them from his body.
  • Abusive Precursors: If Zeus' word is right they were this to the Gods.
  • Death by Adaptation: In the Greek mythology the Titans were defeated by the Olympian Gods but survived due to being immortal like other deities and were imprisoned in Tartarus. Here all of the Titans were killed during their war with the Gods.
  • Dying Curse: Upon being killed by the Gods the last of the Titans swore a curse upon the Gods. His blood falling into the sea gave birth to the Giants who would become an even greater threat to the Gods.
  • God of Evil: Are described as the family of Darkness by Zeus and the Dying Curse made by the last of them created the horrific creatures that are the Giants.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Are this because of the curse that created the Giants who would threaten the world twice and who themselves later give birth to the Demons.
  • Villainous Legacy: All the evil beings that would plague the world after their defeat, such as the Giants and the Demons came to be because the last Titan cursed the Gods upon his dying breath.

The Giants

Gigantic and tremendously powerful evil beings that were created by a curse that the last Titan casted upon the Olympian Gods upon his death with the goal to destroy the Gods. They were eventually defeated by the Gods after Zeus convinced two of them to betray their brethren and had their souls gathered by Hermes and their bodies tossed into the sea. This would however not be the last of them as one day one of the Giants' bodies resurfaced and became the source of power of the Demons setting the plot of the series in motion.
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Were born of a curse with the goal to destroy the realm of the Gods. Hera's attempt to use them backfires horribly as they turn on her as soon as she doesn't have a way to blackmail them into following her. Subverted in the sense that at least two of them, as Zeus was able to reason with said two and convinced them into fighting for the Gods instead.
  • Arch-Enemy: Towards the Olympian Gods they seek to destroy at all cost, having been literally made by a curse against the Gods.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Fitting of their name, they are absolutely gigantic. Each of them being at least several dozens of meters tall, and easily tower over every other character in the series.
  • Divided We Fall: Were defeated because two of them (Hekatonkheires and the Cyclops) were convinced by Zeus to fight for the Gods and betrayed their brethren.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: Despite being strong-armed into obeying Hera, the Giants obviously have no loyalty towards her and attack her as soon as they get the chance.
  • God of Evil: While not being Gods they are being worshipped as such by the Demons who have eaten their flesh and follow them in the attack against Olympus.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: To the Demons who came to be after eating the flesh of a Giant body, turning them from humans into monsters.
  • Know When to Fold Them: After Hera uses the cauldron to take back the souls of several of the Giants trying to attack her the leader of the Giants realize the futility of fighting Hera and reluctantly agrees to her terms.
  • The Leader: One of them with horns, a beard and gigantic snakes over his shoulders seem to be their leader as he is the one who stops the others from trying to attack Hera when she strong-arms them and is the one to attacks her personally after she loses the cauldron.
  • Made of Evil: Are this due to be born of a Dying Curse sworn by the last Titan. Eating their flesh is what turns normal humans into demons.
  • Related in the Adaptation: The Cyclops and Hekatoncheires (Who were both actually groups of deities rather than singular entities) were not Giants in the original myths, and were in fact born before them, with their imprisonment within Tartarus being a major factor in the Titan’s rise of power.

The Demons

Humans who worship the Giants that were mutated after ingesting Giant blood. They are secretly conspiring to bring down Olympus.
  • Kill It with Fire: Are weak to fire that reveals their true appearance and is greatly helpful to kill them.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Are far stronger and more agile than normal humans and can make high and long jumps from trees to trees or on buildings.
  • Logical Weakness: As their power comes from the remains of a Giant, they would be destroyed if these were destroyed.
  • Mook: Serve as this to Seraphim and to the Giants.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: All of them have glowing red eyes.
  • Religion of Evil: Worship the Giants as if they were gods and willingly turned into Demons by eating remains of one of the Giants.
  • Villain Decay: They started off the major threat, but when it becomes clear who the real foes are, only there boss remains to be someone to be feared while the rest were demoted to this.
