    The Party

In General

  • Birds of a Feather: Mal and Imtura are the ones in the group who get along the most because of their shared traits. Both like more humble lifestyles, have a criminal record, go drinking and brawling at bars.
  • Foil: The group serve as this to each other.
    • Mal and Tyril. Both are the male love interests. Mal is a human born in poverty with a cynical view of the world and doesn't believe in the importance of the Light as ruling force. Tyril is an elf from a once noble family, looking for the redemption of his housename, while being a firm believer of the light. While Mal is the one who introduces Raine into the adventurer life, Raine is the one who gets Tyril to open up to others.
    • Nia and Imtura. Nia is a gentle human priestess of the Light incapable of harming others. Imtura is a tough rebellious orc princess who prefers to be a pirate, and dismisses the veneration of Light.
    • Nia and Tyril, and Imtura and Mal. Both pairs often argue with each other about their religious believes. Also Nia and Tyril are more refined and restrained, while Mal and Imtura are rough and boisterous.
    • Nia and Tyril. Both are believers of the Light and Shadow as the bigger forces of the world. While Nia is optimistic and naïve, Tyril is brooding and distrustful of other people.
    • Mal and Imtura. While both are Birds of a Feather, Mal is a complete atheist and lives for the treasures, and Imtura still respects the rituals and tributes to nature.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: The four love interests are this. Mal's the Sanguine because of his fast-talking nature and love of adventure. Imtura's the Choleric because of her hands-on approach to solutions and willingness to kill a corrupted crew member. Tyril's the Melancholic because of his aloofness and high expectations of himself. Nia's the Phlegmatic because of her empathy for others and attempt to avoid conflict whenever possible.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The group consists of Raine (a newcomer adventurer), Nia (a naïve and gentle priestess of the Light), Mal (a cunning thief with a heart of gold), Tyril (a serious elf from a disgraced noble family), Imtura (a tough orc pirate princess), Threep (an ancient race of venered and intelligent animals), and Kade (Raine's brother and the scholar of the group). Raine can even call themselves such in Chapter 4.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Imtura is the Tomboy, to Nia's Girly Girl.

Main Character/Raine

The main protagonist of the series.
  • And This Is for...:
    • If they fight and kill Duke Erthax in Book 1, Chapter 16, they give one of these to him.
    "That's for Scholar Vash."
    • They say a similar line while striking the Ash Empress in Book 2, Chapter 18.
    "That was for Valax!"
  • Big Brother Instinct: To Kade. When he gets trapped in the Shadow Realm, they promise to do everything they can to save him.
  • Bling of War: Chapter 15 allows them to get the Armor of Light before going into the Shadow Realm.
  • Extreme Omnisexual: Raine can sleep with anyone on the team, which includes two humans, an elf, and an orc. Raine can also flirt with Prince Aerin (human), Duchess Xenia (an elf of the Shadow Court), and a horrific bug monster.
  • Genius Bruiser: An Orc!Raine can be this, having the strength that comes with their race while having smarts that come with correct choices.
  • Harmless Freezing: The "Bind" Elite Skill, learned from Tyril in Book 2, Chapter 7, allows Raine to perform a variant of this on their enemies.
  • Healing Hands: A premium scene in Book 2, Chapter 6 allows them to learn the "Heal" Elite Skill from Nia.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Raine is initially motivated to go on adventures after Mal calls them a "kit" in the introduction; Raine wants to prove that they're a better adventurer than Mal's companions.
  • The Medic: Having the "Medicine" skill allows them to not only apply medicine to people after combat, but also do some forensic detection.
  • Poisoned Weapon: In Chapter 9 if they make the right choices and kill the Drakna Queen, they get the Drakna Stinger which still contains its venom even after it's dead.
  • The Social Expert: With the "Diplomacy" skills, they can be this.
  • Sole Survivor: Raine and Kade were the sole survivors of a raid 20 years in the past.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: The "Beastmaster" skill lets them tame animals large and small, even able to speak unintelligible dialects in human tongues.
  • Stealth Expert: With training from Mal in Book 1 Chapter 10, they can learn Stealth, allowing them to slip into the shadows.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At first, they have almost no experience in adventuring, to the point that Mal refers to them as a "kit" (basically another word for "noob"). As the story progresses, they get more powerful, learning new skills and holding their own in battle, even discovering their affinity for magic. By the end of Book 1, they've defeated the Dreadlord and become a Realmwalker.
  • Walking Arsenal: By the end of Book 1, with premium choices, they'll have gained three legendary weapons: the Gauntlet of Pain, the Bow of Gal'dariel and the Blade of Sol. They can only be used if Raine has the necessary weapon skills.

Mal Volari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasmal.jpg
The Rogue. He joins Raine on their quest in hopes of getting paid.

  • Everyone Has Standards: He may be a thief and a criminal who puts up with Raine's constant flirting (of both him and others), but the moment they try to seduce a bug monster, he declares himself 100% done.
"No! NO! You cannot flirt with the horrific bug monster! This is where I draw the line! This cannot work!"
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's rather snarky and his main motivation for joining Raine on their quest is getting paid for it, but he also cares for Raine (and later, the other party members).
  • Lovable Rogue: He befriends other members of the party with his wit and charm.
  • Missing Mom: His mother died from overwork when he and his sister were still children.
  • The Nicknamer: He calls Raine "Kit".
  • Only in It for the Money: At first, he only joins the party because Nia tells him that he will be paid a fortune.
  • Street Smart: Unlike Nia's naïve approach to city life, Mal knows every trick from thieves and pickpockets.
  • Tattooed Crook: A premium sidequest in Chapter 3 has Mal reveal a tattoo on the inside of his wrist, crossed daggers in a crimson diamond framed by six blood drops. This marks him as a Whitetower Reaper.

Nia Ellarious

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasnia.jpg
The Priestess. She's a Priestess of the Light Raine and Kade encountered in Riverbend.

  • Brainwash Residue: Book 2, Chapter 6 reveals that some of her Shadow corruption from the end of Book 1 is still lingering within her.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: At the end of Chapter 15, it is revealed that Prince Aerin has succeeded in corrupting her.
  • Damsel in Distress: At the end of Chapter 14, she is kidnapped by Prince Aerin and taken to the Shadow Realm to be used as a vessel for the Dreadlord.
  • Fish out of Water: She grew up in a religious temple in Whitetower and only left to deliver alms to the poor and heal the sick, so the pilgrimage she's on is the first time she's really seeing the world. This bites her in Book 1 Chapter 3, when a child pickpockets her.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Nia is possessed by the Dreadlord, she informs Raine that the only way to kill him for good is to stab her to death with the Blade of Light, which Raine very reluctantly does. Fortunately, she gets better.
  • Jerkass: As Shadow Nia, she's cold, cynical, lacks empathy, and mocks her teammates for their problems. When she chastises the rest of the party for "wasting time helping people [they] hardly know" in Book 2, Chapter 12, Raine can call her an ass for her behavior.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She wears a see-through gown throughout the game.
  • Light 'em Up: As Priestess of the Light, she uses light magic to help her friends and fight her enemies. A premium scene in Chapter 6 has her teach Raine the Orb of Light skill, which gives them the ability to blast enemies with light.
  • Nice Girl: Nia has a pleasant and friendly personality, and she enjoys being able to use her healing gifts because anything that reduces suffering in the world is worthwhile.
  • Precision F-Strike: The only time she swears is in Chapter 16 during the fight against the Dreadlord. Raine even comments on it.
Nia: I'm me... and I'm going to save the godsdamned world.
Raine: Nia, did you just swear?

Tyril Starfury

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolastyril.jpg
The Mage. He's a member of House Starfury who was exiled from Undermount.

  • Defrosting Ice King: He starts out cold and aloof, only joining Raine's party because they have a common goal and he wants to get it out of the way as soon as possible. As time goes on, he gets closer to Raine and the rest of the party, even calling them his friends in Chapter 10.
  • Friendless Background: In a premium scene in Chapter 4, he says he wasn't even allowed to have friends since with his status, even so much as nodding to another elf in Undermount having political ramifications.
  • Magic Knight: He's skilled in swordsmanship as well as magic.
  • Playing with Fire: He often conjures flames with his magic.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: In Chapter 12, after taking the premium choice to finish off Duchess Xenia, Raine asks if he feels any satisfaction avenging Kaya.
"No. I just feel tired. And still so angry. How much death did it take before we killed this one piece of the Shadow Court?"

Imtura Tal Kaelen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasimtura.jpg
The Warrior. She's an orc princess seeking a freer life from her expected role as Flotilla's future queen.

  • The Big Girl: She is the team's muscle, skilled at fighting with both axes and her bare hands.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: To her, "Immy" is this by her mother.
  • Enemy Mine: In Chapter 5, she and Raine have to team up to defeat a group of monsters so she can get back to plundering the boat that they were on. By the end of the chapter, she joins Raine's party.
  • Face Palm: Imtura does this in Chapter 5 when she's introduced in Flotilla as Princess.
  • The Lad-ette: She greatly enjoys drinking and partying.
  • Rebellious Princess: She would much rather go out and do actual piracy than remain in Flotilla and learn how to rule.
  • Sand In My Eyes: In Chapter 15 if you take the premium choice to rescue Loola, she considers it touching. When Mal asks if she's crying, she says she has dungeon dust in her eyes.
  • Warrior Princess: Imtura is the princess of Flotilla and a fighting sea captain. She also teaches Raine the fighting technique known as Kaytar in a premium scene in Chapter 8. It's a technique that makes you as intangible as the wind until you smash into your enemy with the force of a boulder.

Threep Percivacurus Pompedorfin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasthreep.jpg
The Nesper.

  • Big Eater: He brings up food at any chance available. Before venturing into the Shadow Realm, he asks if they are going to pack any snacks. In the Premium mission to save Loola, he tells the party to share his snacks with her, which surprises Mal.
  • Cats Hate Water: In Chapter 4, if you take cover in the ship's hold during the storm, Threep is hoping he doesn't get wet.
  • Childhood Friends: Implied between him and Loola. Since they seem to know each other quite well when they reunitenote , it can be assumed that they have been very good friends for a very long time, including whatever is considered "childhood" for a nesper.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Nespers are sensitive to corruption of the Shadow, and Threep can identify who has been infected. He can't sense Aerin at first because he was able to disguise his dark energy.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Subverted. You can enter a name for him when you first encounter him, but he will reject this name and tell you he's actually called Threep.
  • Non-Action Guy: Threep’s main role in the group is to provide exposition to old lore and detect corrupted beings. If the party chooses to rescue Loola, she reveals that Threep can’t use offensive magic, since he originally was a courier.
  • Overly Long Name: A premium scene in Chapter 15 reveals his full name is Threep Percivacurus Pompedorfin.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He has been alive for a very long time.
  • Talking Animal: Threep is a nesper, an ancient servant of the elves. The group is shocked to find out that the winged cat is able to talk.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Threep is very fond of elven Honey Wine and fine cuisine.

Kade

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolaskade.jpg
The Bard and Raine's adoptive brother.

  • The Bard: Kade is this to the party.
  • Distressed Dude: He gets trapped in the Shadow Realm after touching the cursed shard. Recuing him becomes Raine's main motivation. When he's met in Chapter 15, he's a beaten, bloody mess with a broken leg.
  • Foil: To Aerin. Both men lived with a sibling for twenty years. However, Kade and Raine are poor orphans who take care of each other despite their lack of blood relations. Aerin and his brother Baldur, on the other hand, are blood-related princes who hate each other, with Baldur frequently bullying Aerin.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: If Raine takes too much damage during the final battle, they will be unable to dodge the spear of darkness that Dreadlord!Nia throws at them. Kade throws himself in front of Raine and saves them but gets severely wounded as a result and ends up in hospital.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Justified when he's rescued in Chapter 15 with his sibling having new party members, adventures and also wondering where Nia and Scholar Vash are.
  • Mr. Exposition: He has familiarized himself with old stories and tales, so at the beginning of Book 1 Chapter 2, Kade is able to explain to the group what the Onyx Shards are. In fact, Kade later explains that stories are important to him because they're how he sees the world.
  • Sole Survivor: Raine and Kade were the sole survivors of a raid 20 years in the past.
  • This Cannot Be!: He has this reaction to Raine rescuing him in Chapter 15, thinking they're a dream.

Loola Coriandropolis Dupopodolis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasloola.jpg
The other Nesper.

  • Childhood Friends: Implied between her and Threep. Since they seem to know each other quite well when they reunitenote , it can be assumed that they have been very good friends for a very long time, including whatever is considered "childhood" for a nesper.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Subverted with her and Threep. Loola is capable of using offensive magic, while Threep is a Non-Action Guy.
  • Optional Party Member: She can be recruited in a premium choice in Chapter 15.
  • Overly Long Name: Her own full name is Loola Coriandropolis Dupopodolis.

    The Shadow Court

The Dreadlord

Ruler of the Shadow Realm and the Big Bad of Book 1

  • Demonic Possession: At the end of Chapter 15, he possesses Nia with the help of Prince Aerin.
  • Eldritch Abomination: What he appears as in Chapter 1 during the final battle with the Elven Empire. The 3rd lore tablet describes him as a creature of immense power, a terrifying force that controls the Shadow Realm and the creatures within.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He serves as the mastermind behind the events that have happened on the story for millennia.

Duke Erthax

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasdukeerthax.jpg
Originally Bastion of House Steelsorrow, he served as a war leader in the Shadow Court

  • Black Knight: Clad in metallic armor to suit him being a warmongering warrior.
  • Blood Knight: He enjoyed combat and conquest so much that hated the peaceful rule of the Skywarren Dynasty.
  • The Faceless: So far, his head is covered by his helmet.
  • The Social Darwinist: According to a Lore Tablet, he believes the strongest should rule and resents his fellow elves for allowing the weak to rule instead.

Duchess Xenia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasduchessxenia.jpg
Originally Eleryn of House Rosecoven, she served as the Shadow Court's spymaster

  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to her sister Elanei's Abel. In fact, Xenia killed Elanei in the Great War.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: She pretended to be Kaya Duskraven after killing her in the Shrine of the Eldest.
  • Horns of Villainy: She has a pair of horns on her head after dropping her disguise.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: After her Dead Person Impersonation is revealed, if Raine and Tyril don't chase her down in Book 1, Chapter 12, she will get away, reappear four chapters later, and escape again. However, when she appears a third time in Book 2, Chapter 7, Valax kills her during the fight scene.
  • No Body Left Behind: The premium choice to finish her off in Chapter 12, after Raine and/or Tyril execute her, has her body crumble into ash.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: In Chapter 12, after her true nature is exposed and Raine gets the Onyx Shard off her, she simply teleports away. In Chapter 16, she does this again after seeing Duke Erthax or Countess Zathra killed with the Blade of Light, if she escaped the first time round.
  • The Spymaster: Her role in the Shadow Court involves gathering intelligence.
  • The Vamp: She uses her beauty and wit to sow chaos among her enemies, corrupt the weak, and goad others to duel in her name.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Long white hair to match her evilness.

Countess Zathra

One of the Shadow Court's oldest and most powerful members.

  • Playing with Fire: She attacks you with a flaming orb if you choose to fight her, as well as a whip of fire.
  • Sadist: She's this from the moment she's introduced.
Raine: So... what is your deal, exactly?
Zathra: My deal... is pain! And I am going to relish in yours!

    Prominent Figures

Prince Aerin Valleros

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasaerin.jpg
Younger son of King Arlan VII of Morella

  • Arrow Catch: Prince Aerin caught an arrow his brother Baldur fired at a unicorn before it could strike its target.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: In Book 2, he returns to help Raine fight the Ash Empire if they were kind to him during his relatively brief time in the party.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: He's actually an agent of the Shadow Court corrupting people around Morella in order to help the Dreadlord return.
  • Body Horror: Aerin had a Nerada Stone, which masks a person's corruption, hiding their true nature, fused into his chest in Book 1. In Book 2, after it was removed and the corruption dissipated, Aerin now has a notable scar in his upper chest, with purple veins visible in the surrounding area.
  • Fallen Prince: If you took the choice to chase him down, Book 2 has a scene with him in prison but his Shadow influence disappeared without explanation. Indeed, the achievement that pops up when Aerin joins the party references this trope by name.
  • Foil: To Kade. Both men lived with a sibling for twenty years. However, Aerin and his brother Baldur are blood-related princes who hate each other, with Baldur frequently bullying Aerin. Kade and Raine, on the other hand, are poor orphans who take care of each other despite their lack of blood relations.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Once he joins Raine's party in Book 2, Chapter 5, only Nia (and optionally, Raine themself) tolerates him, with the rest of the party treating him like a bomb that may go off at any moment.
  • The Good Prince: He's kind and friendly towards others regardless of social class. Or so it seems.
  • Karma Houdini: He runs away in Book 1, Chapter 16. If Raine doesn't chase him down, he will get away without any consequences for his crimes.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Unlike his brother Baldur, Aerin's a Nice Guy who acts humbly and quickly befriends others. Until Book 1 Chapter 14 reveals that it's all an act and he's much worse than Baldur.
  • Spare to the Throne: His status as second-born is a source of his inferiority complex and resentment towards Baldur.

Crown Prince Baldur Valleros

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bolasbaldur.jpg
Older son of King Arlan VII of Morella

  • Asshole Victim: Despite the horrible nature of his death, it's hard to feel bad for him when Aerin killed him to summon a portal to the Shadow Realm, since Baldur was a Big Brother Bully towards Aerin and a jerkass towards other people.
  • Big Brother Bully: He constantly bullies Aerin since they were children. A couple of lines suggest that Baldur regularly dished out physical abuse to Aerin, in addition to hitting him hard enough to leave a bruise after Aerin stopped him from killing a unicorn.
  • Glory Hound: He enjoys collecting hunting trophies showcasing his prowess, even if it means taking credit for other people's kills.
  • Hate Sink: A Royal Brat who repeatedly tormented his younger brother Aerin when they were younger and continues to do so as an adult, viewing himself as the only one worthy of being king, while considering Aerin useless (even being willing to leave his brother to die in a situation that wasn't his fault), is rude and condescending to everyone he meets, takes credit for your party's successful kills and tries to kill an innocent unicorn. It makes his death at the hands of Aerin satisfying, even if Aerin himself turns out to be Evil All Along. In a premium scene in Book 2, Chapter 7, Aerin outright says that he won't mourn Baldur's death, knowing he would have been a horrible king who would have taken delight in doing the things Aerin did in Book 1 that the latter genuinely regrets.
  • Red Herring: He's a jerkass, which makes it easy to suspect him of becoming an antagonist later on. Book 1 Chapter 14 finally reveals that it's actually Aerin who's the antagonist.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Unlike his brother Aerin, Baldur's a boastful jerkass who flaunts his position as crown prince and a Glory Hound who seeks hunting trophies.
  • Stealing the Credit: If your party successfully kills the Drakna queen in Chapter 9, Baldur will take the credit for the kill.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In Chapter 14, he walks up to Aerin and threatens to rough him up a little like he did when they were little. He does this while Aerin is visibly glowing black with shadows, has gray skin, and has black veins in his face, which should have signaled that something is seriously wrong with Aerin and threatening him might not be a good idea. Aerin then stabs Baldur to death.

The Watcher

A mysterious figure who watches over the world.

    The Ash Empire

Princess Valax

Princess of the Ash Empire

  • The Dragon: To her mother the Ash Empress. She kidnapped Raine and brought them back to the Shadow Realm (resulting in them being separated from their companions for a year), just so she could use Raine's blood to conquer the Light Realm. In Book 2, Chapter 18, it is revealed that she can turn into a literal dragon.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She realises that her mother is wrong in the finale of Book 2 and stabs her for the greater good.
  • Our Homunculi Are Different: Book 2, Chapter 13 reveals that she wasn't birthed, but created artificially by her mother to do her bidding.
  • Recurring Boss: As of Chapter 12, she has been encountered four times.
    • In Chapter 1, she uses the last of the energy from The Blade of Light to open a portal and kidnap Raine to use their blood to conquer the Realm of Light. Raine then uses their new Realmwalker abilities to escape Valax and return to the Realm of Light as she chases after them to no avail.
    • In Chapter 4, she shows up outside the Deadwood to try and force Raine to return to the Shadow Realm with her. After a struggle, Raine's party members (who have all been reunited by this point) keep her distracted while Raine steals the vial of blood from her, opens a portal to the Shadow Realm and kicks her through it.
    • In Chapter 7, she shows up in the Whimsywood as Raine and their party are planning to seal the rift. Another fight ensues and the party manages to keep Valax at bay long enough for Raine to close the rift and hop through a portal back to the Deadwood (though Mal is injured in the fight).
    • At the end of Chapter 11, she shows up in Zaradun while Raine and their party are discussing the consequences of sealing another rift. Raine tricks Valax into following them through a portal so they can seal the rift on the other side and not hurt the citizens of Zaradun. Unfortunately, Raine and their party end up in the Shadow Realm with a very pissed-off Valax, and another fight ensues at the beginning of Chapter 12. This time, however, Nia uses Shadow magic to bond Valax to the party so she can't escape, leading to her becoming a temporary party member.

Ash Empress

Ruler of the Ash Empire, Valax's mother and the Big Bad of Book 2 who wants to destroy the Light Realm

  • Bad Boss: The Dreadlord used to be a nobleman under her, but she proved to be this to the extent it's the whole reason he rebelled and founded the Shadow Court so he'd have an army to fight her.
  • Big Bad: Of Book 2, since her desire to conquer the Light Realm drives the plot of Raine having to seal the rifts to stop her.
  • Evil Overlord: She's The Empress of an Evil Empire who seeks to destroy the Light Realm.
  • Fallen Hero: She actually accepted the world as it was and opposed her fellow Old Gods’ selfish plan to split the realm in two to preserve their immortality, being trapped in the realm of shadow corrupted her.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: She's the original ruler of the Shadow Realm, and the Dreadlord was a noble in her court before he rebelled against her and founded the Shadow Court.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: She created Valax for the sole purpose of doing her bidding. Guess who kills her at the end of Book 2?
  • The Reveal: In Chapter 15, she is revealed to be one of the Old Gods known as the Mother of Grey, who rebelled against the other Old Gods and was banished to the Shadow Realm for her betrayal.
  • Truly Single Parent: She didn’t give birth to Valax, she created her.
  • Un-person: The other Old Gods intentionally erased her name from any documents to the point she is only known as the Mother of Grey and unlike the other Old Gods, they claimed she wanted no worship from their followers.

     Nifara (SPOILERS
The God of Judgement and the High Queen of Elhalas.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Though she describes herself as kind and fair (and the texts support this), she's anything but. She fractured the original realm into two to retain her power and magic, talked the other Old Gods into supporting her, threatened to exterminate the dwarves for harboring the Mother of Grey (who disagreed with the plan), banished her to the Shadow Realm, created the Watcher to manipulate Raine into closing the rifts to ensure that the realms would be permanently separated, then killed him for failing her.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: She was the one who fractured the original realm into Light and Shadow out of her own selfish desire to remain all powerful forever and banished the Mother of Grey to the Shadow Realm for interfering. Because of this, the Mother of Grey became corrupted into the Ash Empress, and the treatment of her people caused the Dreadlord to defect and form the Shadow Court. As such, she's responsible for the events of the series.
  • Psycho Lesbian: According to one of the Lore Tablets, she and the Mother of Grey were said to be deeply in love. This didn't stop her from banishing the Mother of Grey to a hellish landscape for interfering with her plans.
  • Top God: Though all six Old Gods shared leadership, the other five deferred to her judgement. She's called the High Queen for this reason.
  • You Have Failed Me: She "unmakes" The Watcher for failing to successfully get Raine to close all of the rifts and permanently separate the two Realms.
